I started as a customer about 9 months ago. Up until recently, the service was good. Over time, I was served by several different staff members, some of whom did high-quality work. I had two consecutive visits with a manicurist named Linda. The first time she did my nails, the quality of the work left a lot to be desired; the gel work looked damaged only after 3 days on work that should normally hold up for one and a half to two weeks. I mentioned it to Linda, who told me I should have come back. On my recent visit, there was quite a bit of rough treatment from this manicurist, from not showing the care and respect I have received from others in the shop to scraping my nails and digging into my cuticles excessively hard. I walked in for my appointment. They were very attentive with the fact that I made the appointment. But I did not like how the technician did my nails. I did not like that. She blatantly lied about my nail, having a white mark when it was clearly the white paint from the French tip. She then proceeded to buff off that material and then work on fixing the nail, but I was not OK with the person telling me of a lie basically. She poked me on my finger, which is not very careful when you're trying to remove the cuticles. And she told me that the minimum tip was $10 and I was not about to tip $10 especially after the fact of what she had done to my nail in the first place I think it was just rude to even ask that the minimum tip was $10. No there was no confusion she charged me the 55 where the tip could have been added to avoid your service fees. Had I known that the minimum meant for your service fees then I would not have tipped at all due to the treatment and services at all. Again there was no confusion. I don't appreciate a technician telling me it's my nail that has a white mark when clearly it was from the nail polish. She basically said no it's not but proceeded to buff off that coat and guess what it was the white polish. I know that tech would have been even more mad if I left no tip. Unacceptable. read more

SF Nail Spa is the absolute best. I live an hour away and it's the only nail salon I go to - that's how great it is! I've been going once a month for the past 4 years. Each month I get a pedicure and an eyebrow wax and once in a while I'll go through a gel nail phase and ger that done too. The quality is consistent, the place has a great vibe, and no matter who my nail tech is, I'm happy every time. I've been to a LOT of nail salons and SF Nail Spa is by far my favorite! It's a nice neighborhood and parking is usually easy but give yourself a little more time on a Saturday. read more

tldr: been to this salon before with good service, disappointed this time as I feel my nails were inappropriately damaged. I've never written a negative review before because I love supporting small businesses and know how hard it can be to keep things running. Also, a lot of the techs don't speak English and I know that can be hard as well. However, I do think this'll be beneficial for feedback for future reference because I think my nails were damaged beyond what was needed and it'll take at least a month to grow out :( I've come to this nail salon once before had decent service. This time I wanted to get builder gel nails removed that I had done at another studio. Because I've experienced nail lifting and skin irritation that's pretty painful with acetone soaking before, I called ahead and requested if it is possible I get my builder gel nails removed via just drill. I was told yes, it's possible. They were able to fit me in pretty quickly which was great! After I arrived, I requested them to trim my nails short and remove the polish. Minimal cuticle work necessary but I'd like a manicure with no additional polish needed, just nail strengthener. The lady who greeted me up front said of course, we can do that. However, the technician who was assigned to me did not know what I was asking for. I tried to explain again and was told ok. My service began and all was fine, but then shortly after the drilling started, my technician was replaced with another lady randomly, who I think was in rush despite no other clients I could see waiting at the time. This was the biggest issue -- unlike her prior colleague, she increased the power of the drill super high and started filing away extremely aggressively, and I truly believe she went too hard and either rotation speed was too high or she pressed too hard. I felt heat on my nails I don't think I should've felt, and the tips of at least half my fingernail have been left extremely, EXTREMELY thin. Even with two coats of nail strengthener. She got a bit upset at the three times I flinched I think. After service, I could barely put any pressure on my nails without them bending a little. I've currently already broken two and it's only been two days (one broke when I tried to itch my LEG?!) :(. If you look at my nails from the top you can see the tips are more pink and from the side, even a slight difference in density at the tips. I'm a bit worried of onycholysis as I work a lot with my hands and they're short, so breaking them is painful. I do note that there was a language barrier with second tech as well, so I had to ask at least three times to cut my nails short. That's totally fine. However, I think she got frustrated with me because she'd already begun filing and shaping one nail before she finally understood that I needed them cut. As much as I understand there might be a language barrier with ME, I do wish her colleagues could've communicated what I was requesting to her if they had to hand me off. It's not that I didn't try to communicate either... I bring this up only because I noticed after that she immediately started working way faster and more aggressively and I believe skipped some parts of my service without saying anything. While she did remember to apply coats of nail strengthener, my service ended without any lotion, cuticle oil, or anything like that (and she'd used alcohol on my hands during the process which dried my fingers out) The reason I believe she might've skipped some steps without telling me is because her colleague asked her a question in Vietnamese after and came up to me and said it'd only be $25 for the service today instead of $50 for the manicure I'd wanted. I'm not super familiar with nail removals as I usually just let them grow out and cut them off, so perhaps it was on me to go back to the original studio I got my nails done at to get them removed. But this was my first time getting builder gel done which is tougher and I wanted to go about removal in the appropriate way. I did try to do my due diligence and call in advance to ask if it was possible and ultimately I wish I'd just been told to maybe go elsewhere more experienced with removals with a drill :( Edit: added a star because I had an okay experience w/ this salon in the past read more

I've been here over 5x now and the ladies here are always so nice and friendly. I usually get both a pedicure and manicure by SF Nail Spa! Can't fathom why SF Nail Spa is SO expensive when the service it delivers is just plain average. It cost far too much for a run-of-the-mill basic mani-pedi with nothing special, no flowers, no jewels, no fancy soaks or rubs, nothing you can't get for ~$40-50 max somewhere else. This place is middle-class Sunset, not chi-chi downtown SF where the wealthy glam-scions cluster. The service and the surroundings are ordinary, but the outrageous sticker-shock price at the register was anything but. This is my favorite place for getting my nails done!! They have tons of cats eye options, glitter, chrome. Every seat is a comfy recliner, and the give an amazing hand massage after they finish your nails; it's so relaxing! They always offer water to drink and make sure you're comfortable. The technician used an electric drill to remove my previous gel and severely over-filed my nails to the point of intense pain. It genuinely felt like she was drilling into my skin. The pain was excruciating -- I could feel it in fingers, and it was honestly one of the most painful experiences I've ever had. I told her that it hurt, but she completely dismissed my concerns and said it was "just a little pain". The cuticle work was equally rough and painful. and I have never experienced anything like this. She handled the tools as if she were working on a machine, not a person. It is extremely disturbing. add: I also noticed that another reviewer, Lily Z., described a nearly identical experience -- overly aggressive drilling, excessive heat, and nails being filed down to an extremely thin and painful state. After my service, my nails feel abnormally thin, weak, and painful, to the point where even light pressure causes discomfort and slight bending. This is not normal and is very concerning. The fact that multiple customers are reporting the same issue is extremely concerning. This goes beyond poor service -- it raises serious concerns about safety and proper training. The salon should take this seriously and investigate immediately. read more

Realistically 2.5 but I rounded down. I just felt like we were rushed the entire time. From sitting down, picking our colors to leaving. I will say my technician was super sweet but my mom's technician was rude. My mom accidentally dropped the gel nail color and jacket in the food bath and the technician had such a mean demeanor. But there was literally no space to put any of your stuff. She also constantly rolled her eyes when speaking to my mom. She also took the gel color basket from her cause she couldn't decide on a color fast enough. This was far from a relaxing experience. The chairs are also just normal chairs and not massage chairs, and they only give you like. 2 minute massage after your pedicure is done. Would I come back? Ehh probably not. Nothing stood out about this place and the service for my mom was not it. If you want a relaxing, nice experience, don't come here. My toes look nice though! read more

This place is in between a 3 and a 4 for me. For gel mani and regular pedi I would rate this place a 4. The staff is fairly fast and does a good job with gel mani. I've been going to SF Nails for years. I do get scared of getting nicked when they are trimming my cuticles. I feel that most of the staff are pretty rough with the scraping and cutting. I can't relax during this part of the process. I have been cut a few times. For regular manis I may have to rate this place a 2 or 3. Here's why: 1. My cuticles get cut and scraped and then the technician doesn't even wipe my hands before she slathers lotion on me and starts massaging. I was a bit grossed out having pieces of my skin rubbed all over me. Yes I know it's my own skin but still. 2. Three coats of polish was put on but nothing was put on to help it dry. Even after 4 hours my nails were still sticky. $30 later I have matte/dull looking polish. 3. Not sure what kind of top coat was used but it made my nail sticky and gritty even to the next day. started going here for maintenance pedicure with callous remover. It's close to home and was an ok pedi for when I didn't have time to go to spa. I went recently and was shocked that the coat was now $70. what? no notice. no signs. no mention of the increase when I called to make the appointment or when I arrived. this damn is not worth that price AT ALL. But since I moved back to the City into my old neighborhood, the Sunset District a couple of years ago, I was so grateful for having found a place that does mani/pedi and lash extensions! The owner, Tina is always so friendly and helpful in picking out colors for the days I can't decide! All the ladies are all so good and talented! The hot towels and hand and feet massages are awesome. They are very accommodating and ask how you want your nails cut or filed and they are all very meticulous and fast too. Honestly, this was probably the worst experience I've had at a nail salon. I went in for a gel pedicure and they don't have regular foot tub chairs so when it was time for my feet to be lifted, I had to uncomfortably lift them onto a stool the nail tech was sitting on and then place my feet back on the ground to put under the light. The worst part is, the nail tech poked me in my toe, which ended up getting infected. This visit ended up costing me way more than it should've. read more

The manicure was sloppy, particularly because there was no care in ensuring each layer of nail polish was even. 2 weeks prior to coming I got a set of acrylic overlays when I was out of town. Instead of staying on for at least 4 weeks, they quickly began to get bubbles underneath. I woke up with the acrylic separating on the top of the nail on my ring finger, pulling at the lower part of my nail bed causing so much pain. I live in Outer Parkside and was trying to find a nail salon to fix the painful nail fast, so I wandered in here. Although they do not do acrylics here, they knew how to remove the overlays. I was squirming from the pain in my poor little nail bed from it being ripped up from the bending acrylic, but they were very gentle with me and the nail tech took her time. They removed several extension nails, trimmed my nails down, gave them a cute square shape, and put on a fresh sturdy set of gel with the cutest little cloud designs. They closed at 7 pm, but kept working even though it took almost until 8. The owner was so sweet, and I noticed the techs all laugh with one another and grab supplies for each other. It just feels like a friendly place with people who get along and take care of one another. I woke up the next day with no pain in the nails. I'm happy with the lovely gel mani/pedi work that they did, making sure my cuticles were cleaned up before and after the polish. They also don't put just two coats on and call it a day- they put on an extra coat to make sure the nail color is opaque and bright. I feel so much better and I'm looking forward to my nails growing out again now that they have been fixed and protected. Thank you! read more

I was hesitant but I agreed, why rain on her parade. We talked about what to do with our nails and I showed her some basic nail pictures and she says, "Go big or go home." So I kept looking. I went with chrome and gold flakes. After getting our nails done, we went about our girl's day. I love my nails so much, but I didn't really like how bumpy the nails with the gold was. When I got home, I looked at my nails and my gold flakes were FLAKING OFF?! HELLO nail gods, give me a break! I thought maybe I should've just went with glitter instead of flakes. Glitter wouldn't have fell off. But anyhow, I contacted SF Nail and they welcomed me back to get them fixed. Apparently, it wasn't supposed to be bumpy. Well, as much as I loved my previous set, this redo was even better. I'm so in love with this combination. It's so adorable. I do wonder how it would look like with glitter, but now I'm so torn if I were to get this combination again. Anywho, I would definitely come back and recommend them to everybody. Got an express manicure with gel removal at this spa on a whim here. Parking was fair with a mixture of street and meter parking. The layout of the spa was clean, organized, and more spacious than most nails spas in the sunset. The staff was friendly and accommodating as they were able to find time to see me last minute. However, would rate this nail salon a 3.5/5 just cause the nail tech seemed to rush the gel removal process, damaging my natural nails. On a positive note, the manicure lasted longer than I expected but there were a few missed spots with the last 2 coats. Wouldn't mind giving this spot another try next time though due to convenience! read more

I usually go to a large nail salon in Scottsdale Arizona where I live primarily. I am used to having spa pedicures with lots of extra accoutrements. I was a bit disappointed to see that there were no spa chairs when I arrived, however I was provided with a foot soak that had cucumber and mint. which was absolutely delightful. The owner was very careful to cater to me even though I was not a regular customer. I thought the work was excellent and the massage was quite thorough. I found the whole experience very relaxing. The owner even came and put a warm hot water bottle behind my back and that of my daughter to help us enjoy the experience more. She was treated very well. I would definitely come back here again despite not having spa chairs. read more

I have been here a number of times, I've spent time talking with the owner Tina who is the sweetest ever. She really cares a lot about her business and staff and clients and believe me, it shows. I typically get gel mani pedi's but I've also had regular polish and both were done wonderfully. I would totally say go the extra mile and pay the extra money and get a gel mani/pedi. It lasts long for most people. I'm a bit hard on my nails so I typically get them done every 10 days. I have had minor issues that were always corrected and has lead me to feel like a valued customer which is extremely important to me in the day and age. Many businesses lose money because they don't value what others spend. And I do spend my hard earned money here, so it's nice to feel and know it's appreciated and that I'm valued as a client. I've only had to wait once when there was a mix up on the salons end with an appt I had scheduled. I had started or with my nails super short and I'm at the point now with having them done regularly and with care, that they are a good length and look very nice. The nail techs are great about making sure I get exactly the care needed for my very sensitive needs. The waxing services are top notch. I would love to see them add Sugaring to the menu. For now I highly recommend their standard waxing. If you're sensitive just let Tami know and she will make sure to go slow with the process. I am eager to give their lash service a try and with my hundreds of questions, she has always been so helpful in letting me know exactly what I was needing info on and not ever being pushy about services.
