It's hard to even find words to express how wonderful of an experience I had getting my hair cut and colored by Jose Lara today. I don't even know where to start and I'm also struggling to pare down what will portray the excellent work he did on my hair, as opposed to sounding like I'm an obsessed stalker. Let me just say first that I have never gotten my hair cut and been truly happy with it before today. Jose is a perfectionist. He takes his time and made sure I understood and was on board with everything he was doing (I'm a total newbie - I've only ever colored my hair once and it was about 10 years ago). My hair had grown to my butt because I was too stressed about going to a salon where the stylist would shame me for being a burden and a weirdo for having such long hair. With Jose, not only did I NEVER feel judged, but I honestly felt like Jose really liked me. I enjoyed his company and conversation so much - it felt like we were old friends. The outcome is exactly what I envisioned in terms of color and more than I could have hoped for in terms of cut. I'm absolutely over the moon. I can't wait to see Jose again...I might end up with a pixie cut just to have excuses to see him more often :) I donated 12+ inches to Wigs for Kids. Jose skillfully prepped and cut my hair according to the donation guidelines and then I took it home and donated it myself. Jose is warm, friendly, funny, endearing, professional and highly talented. Leah is great! When it comes to hair colors, I like switching it up every couple of months or so. For a while, I was going to a few other places but I never felt like they knew what they were really doing, especially fantasy hair color. So when someone introduced me to Leah, I was at first hesitant. So for the first time, we started with some color at the ends. Then we slowly started adding more and now I feel like when ever visit her we experiment with colors and I know I'll end up loving it. Even thought I usually switch up my hair, I think the pink was the color that I had the longest. Sitting in the chair is never awkward with her. I recent had a cut and highlights done at LNJ by Masako. I'm extremely appreciative of Masako's patience, she did an exceptional job on my cut and color. I was using henna and indigo during quarantine and I brought this up during my appointment - we weren't really thinking it was going to be an issue as I've gone back and forth between pure henna (no indigo) and dye many times and never had a problem. When we did the bleach we were both surprised that my hair was lifting with a greenish tint. Masako really went out of her way to try to lift the green without compromising my hair, she used a special treatment to try and lift out some of the green that blondes can get when they are exposed to chlorine and she also cancelled her evening appointment to continue working on my color. I was originally aiming for mahogany and due to the greenish lift of my hair from the indigo we weren't exactly sure how it would turn out, but it came out a really lovely wine color that should fade nicely. The technique of her highlights application was also spot on and came out really nicely. I'm very thankful for Masako's patience, she was very sweet and did her best to keep me informed about what was going on with my hair color along the way. read more

I like how Victor cuts my hair. He has flair and my hair has bounce. He uses sharp scissors, not razor, and I think this makes a big difference. He takes his time to cut or trim and doesn't use super high heat to dry my hair, which I prefer. Suggests what's good for the next visit and gives tips on how to maintain and style my hair. I don't have to say how vital and foundational having an awesome hairstylist is, right? My hair is unruly, not in the cool, curly way, in the straight, dense, flat asian way. I like to believe that I am daring with my hair, but all in all, I'm pretty conservative (so I'm told). And I am lazy (meaning no curling or styling in the morning). All that said, Valerie at L N J is THE BEST. I have been going to her for years and followed her around the whole city. She is excellent, in particular, with asian hair (why does everyone else always try to razorblade it?!). When she's done working her magic, my hair has lightness, bounce, and style. AND it stays that way while it grows out. I seriously don't know how she does it. When I wanted to dye my hair, Valerie (knowing the lazy part) suggested highlights underneath the top layer of hair so that it doesn't look terrible between visits (because I'm also not great at keeping up with highlight maintenance). When I thought it'd be cool to get a pixie cut, she explained how to texture of my hair wouldn't result in the photo I had brought in of Katie Holmes (shrug). In other words, she's a pro. Bonus, she's affordable and so sweet. read more

I love coming here to get my hair cut! The person who cut my hair was Rachel. I've been to her a couple of times now, and she always does a great job! Also, she's friendly and fun to talk to. I referred a few friends and family members to her, and everyone has gone back because they like what she does. She is very friendly, and knows her stuff. She also speaks Cantonese. Rachel colored my friend's hair and it turned out beautiful! My friend also brought her mom in because another place messed up her hair when dying it, and Rachel fixed it for her. I'm honestly surprised at the positive comments. My hair cut is extremely uneven (I noticed it when I went home and my roommates told me the cut was uneven without me saying anything). Also, the cut is way too short. I showed a reference picture and he glanced at it once for 2 seconds then went to cutting my hair. When he was blow drying, he twisted my hair with his fingers and pretended like he was giving me waves all it did was tangle my hair. Yeah, I don't recommend at all. Also, he did not accept credit card even though there's a sign on the door that says they accept credit cards/debit cards. I had to use Zelle. Such an obscure platform to use. Why not something like PayPal? Venmo? Why Zelle? It's a new platform and it's glitchy and it's sketchy as hell that this stylist made me download this app, set up my bank account to it, and pay him that way. Sounds like he's avoiding something...taxes? read more
