There is one tell-tale sign of a great dentist: all his staff - from reception to dental assistants - are treated as valued colleagues and not just as the ​hired help. For technical reasons, my stay plate was difficult to fit. Dr. Kolokithas spent lots of time and effort to get it perfect for my requirements. I have not been to such an attentive dentist in years. I wasn't feeling particularly anxious, but I was told it was free, so I agreed. I was quickly given paperwork to sign, which I did willingly, though I should have taken more time to read it. What was not explained to me verbally was that this involved an injection in my neck. When I realized that, I froze but went along with it. After the injection, I was told the doctor is writing a paper on this procedure and was then asked whether it helped my anxiety, which immediately made me uncomfortable and made me feel like a test subject rather than a patient. Later, when reviewing the consent, I saw listed risks such as temporary phrenic nerve blockage and infection, risks that were never clearly explained beforehand. Instead, it was described very casually as "feeling like having a mimosa." When I called with concerns, the staff were kind and understanding, but I was told I would know if something went wrong because I'd have extreme difficulty breathing. I wish that risk had been communicated before the procedure, not AFTER. The staff were friendly overall and there were no complications, but the lack of transparency and how casually this was presented felt unethical to me as a patient. While I did sign the paperwork and take responsibility for that, clearer verbal communication and informed consent would have made a huge difference.

And his work needed to be redone, and was severely infected!!! His words were " The good news is, there's not permanent damage, but you are right on the cusp of it." If I would have trusted Dr black, like I should be able to, I would have been out several thousand more than the THOUSANDS I am already out, and had permanent damage. DO NOT go to him!!!!!!!!!! They are the ones that told me I over paid and would have to get Aspen to pay me back. I used 2 ways to pay. I had to finance a portion with Care credit. It was 8 months of dealing with Aspen getting a receipt that FSA would take. Then it hit me. They owed me 1100 and then it was 3 weeks of trying to get my money back. Finally Aspen sent the money to care credit and not the flex spending card. When I asked why they didn't tell me I had a large overpayment they said they thought I would just let the money stay in their account until I had more dental work done.
