I went a few times looking for a straight answer on silver (melt value). Lots of double talk. He thinks he's the smartest man in the world. He has a plaque on his desk which says "mr never wrong". Well... the lot I brought to him he offered $300 for and the very next place offered $1200 (Danbury Gold & Silver - Kelleher Auctions) for the same exact lot. I have never written a bad review in my life... he left me no choice as I wouldn't want to see others get ripped off (not by a little - 400 % more was paid from Danbury). Also, you get the used car salesman "slick" speeches from Neil... "i have been in this business 53 years" and "the math is complicated, you can't do it". Rude and nasty. I dropped by, and Mr. Berman acted as if I was wasting his time. He buzzed open the door, and asked "What do you want?" Not exactly a warm welcome. He then refused to let me look at his junk silver freely (said I could only buy sight unseen,) tried to charge me 14x face (when other stores were charging 12x) and generally made the visit unpleasant. This man is a complete con artist. The lowest of the low. Despite having a very interesting collection and promising to offer a competitive price, he not only low-balled me, he used false math. When confronted he angrily declared that he had been in the jewelry business for 42 years. I retorted that I had been in the commodities business for 17 years and that his offer for the melt weight of my gold was not even in the ball park. I had an item that weighed exactly 1 troy ounce and when you consider 14 karat gold is a percentage out of 24 (58%) and the current (spot) price of gold was $1285 per ounce that day, he offered me $496. Actual melt value was $745. Forget that the item was a beautifully hand crafted set of cufflinks and studs, I was willing to take below the price of the weight of gold (melt price). He claimed to be offering me 85% melt which would have been $633 and when I called him out on it he immediately worked his calculator again and raised his price to $605, still below 85% the value of melt. I sold it to a gold dealer a mile away, or $700 a week later even though the price of gold had dropped 10 dollars during that week. This man tries to take advantage of those that are unaware and he didn't realize who he was dealing with. Complete dirtbag. read more

I have been dealing with Mr. Berman for 6 years now. I find him very reputable, willing to buy whatever amount and type of precious metals I bring into him. I have brought in a range from a sleeve of gold American Eagle coins to $100 worth of junk silver and he will buy them at a fair price. I have also bought gold eagles and sleeves of silver eagles from him at a very fair price. I would not take my precious metals or purchase precious metal any where else. read more
