Time to update.... I am breaking up with you for good if this keeps happening, Neil. I try to be cool with the Fat Man, who rocks, but it's getting increasingly more difficult. You don't even speak to me any more. Hobbling around like "The Penguin" and shit, all sully and frank. This time he is sitting with the old guy group by the bar. A guy says he's not paying for his burger because it is too small for the money. Neil tells to the bar lady "you tell them to save that burger and the next one comes in, use it!" Gross. This also leads me to believe my food was leftover from last week. More on that in just a bit... The place is just flat nasty in the front. Grease, dust, dirt, and grime. I would hate to see what the kitchen looks like. The only reason I still come here is to reminisce about my Dad. He and his friends loved this place. They have a chicken liver lunch special on Wednesdays that we used to hit up together. I have always loved the burger here although it's been years since I had it. Never will again bow. Service is usually ok as there are more mature type folk working here for the most part. The bartender lady with the spiked blonde hair is nice in her own way. Not the case this last time though. I had a newbie server it seemed. My last visit sucked really bad. My last three visits before that, sucked moderately bad. I can take the moderate piece, but won't stand the shit I got last time. I get the same thing every time these days. Fried chicken livers with white beans, corn, and cornbread. This is one of the lunch specials on Wednesday. They only have the livers once a week. The beans are served once a week, and the corn is on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Why do I mention this? When I came last time, the veggies I was served were leftover from being cooked before. No doubt about this. No way they weren't. It was 11:45 so there is no way it say out long enough to get this old. So, I do believe that I was served last week's leftovers. To add to insult, they were cold. The livers and the butter were the only things hot. Look at the pic from this last visit and look at the history of my plates here. You can watch the quality degrade. I would have complained had the new girl given a shit enough to ask how I liked the food I had one bite of. She just walked up and asked if I was ready to pay. This establishment was over crowded!!!! There were so many people that they were standing in between tables. They clearly did not care about the Fire Marshal. Atmosphere: The air did not work! We could not enjoy the event because it was extremely hot. We used ANYTHING to act as fans from menus to napkins. Customer Service: My server was overloaded with about 8 tables which ALL were large parties. Though the food came out within 15mins, the table was extremely thirsty. We didn't get our cokes until 45mins later after ordering 2 times. Giving the benefit of the doubt, it was so packed that the server could barely pass through the people standing around to get to his tables. Food: It lacked. I love a mature crowd and I love old school music! Neil's is the perfect spot for me. It's laid back, fun, and they serve a good variety of food! The service is really good as well. FYI, it is $10 for entry. It's worth it. We booked a table for a crowd of 15. I would suggest doing so, if you are coming to celebrate. If not, there are tables and the bar available. The DJ is good at what he does. He keeps the crowd entertained and engaged until the band comes on. I love the band also. They are talented and they also engage the crowd as well. I have frequented this establishment in the past and have never experienced what I experienced tonight. I travel for work and was told about this business. I entered tonight and stood at the bar waiting to be served only to be addressed by a hostile employee. Me and my partner reluctantly ordered a drink. I said to the bar tender," I know you must be having a rough night " because it was so busy. He snatched our drinks and poured our drinks out and refused our service after me saying I know you're busy. When we asked why is he refusing us service he said because he wanted to. When we asked for the manager he said he was the manager. We decided to just leave this establishment. This is unacceptable behavior coming from staff. Whatever happened to costumer service. I will be escalating this event. This so call manager was hostile from the start. It appeared to be racist and biased. There were several consumers around complaining about the same employee. Came here on Thanksgiving Day since it was the only option we could find in town, passing through on our way to Texas. The Thanksgiving dinner option was a good deal- $20 for a big platter of food, but it was lukewarm and had been sitting out in a buffet. They also ran out of cranberry sauce. It would have been better if it had been hot. When we walked in we didn't see a hostess and looked confused so one of the locals told us we could sit anywhere. We had to wait a few minutes before someone came over to take our order, but they were prompt in getting us our food. Thé pumpkin pie was also subpar and had more of a chunky texture. read more

My first visit to Neil's was a good one with lots of friends from St. Jude for a work party with my sweetheart. The band was great and the typical pub grub and beverages were pretty much as expected but the service was great. Neil's Music Room is billed as a performance & event venue. Their tout live music, cool cocktails & great food with hot home cooking. Their menu is offered Monday through Friday from 11:00am till 9:00pm with breakfast anytime you want it from 11am till 3:00am. They're known for their World Famous Onion Rings (Made the top 100 list in America) and alsi known for the Fat Guy Cheeseburgers and I our homemade pizza. They have regular specials Meat and Two - $7.95, Meat and Three - $9.95 & Veggie Plate - $8.95. They are known for lots of great live music and while it used to be VERY smokey in the past it's a smoke-free place with a nice deck outside as well. We had a large group (12) that ended up there because it has a dog-friendly patio. They have a band on Fridays (and perhaps other nights), which makes this a popular place. By around 8, it was full. That may appeal to the younger crowd, but I'm not sure they have the staff to adequately serve the clientele. We ordered drinks and I ordered onion rings at that time. The drinks came out in a reasonable time but there was a considerable wait for my food as well as everyones else's. The onion rings, to be fair, were possibly the largest I'd ever had. But they arrived cold. At $11, they was pricey, but so big/many I couldn't eat them all - and believe me - this is unusual. Four others had the same (cold) experience, with different dishes including a pizza! Only 1 person received a warm sandwich (I don't think any of the others ordered food). We discussed sending our plates back to be warned, but didn't want to suffer another wait. We left after more than 2 hours of similar service - even our tabs incurred a hefty wait. read more

Quick lunch and specials each day. Different menu items depending upon which day it is. The prices are great for the amount of food you are served. Home cooking that is filling and tasty. I remember Neil's well. It was at Madison and Mclean. Back in my Rock-Roll days, I actually performed there a few times. It was just an old building with that special Memphis vibe. This is my first time to this location. I just didn't get the same feel here. And there were no memories. It's just a strip mall in yuppie Memphis. It's a big spot, and I'm sure they turn up the music at night, but I wish I could go back to Neil's one time the way it was 20 years ago. Plus, I found it strange to have exposed ductwork under a dropped ceiling. I have never seen that before. It looks ridiculous. Like they're trying to do the exposed ceiling and the black tile drop ceiling at the same time. All I wanted was that damn burger. It was damn good too. And did you know, tomorrow they're having free burgers and beer? The burger did impress, but those onion rings were phenomenal. I don't brag about onion rings too often, but they were special. They were sliced thick and dipped in great batter with a little crunch to it. Fried at the right temperature with clean tasting oil, for just the right amount of time. It was a good lunch. The Mexican pizza was friggin great too! 12/29/17 I'm just gonna edit rather than update. I'm also changing from 4 stars to 5. Salisbury steak was definitely cooked in house, as was the gravy. Mashed potatoes came from a farm-not a factory. Just the way I like 'em. Green beans had some substance to them unlike canned beans. I'm sure they were fresh. Had bacon in them too. They make cornbread in an iron skillet? Yes they do! None of that muffin pan bullshit. This is how I like my food. read more

Went to a celebration of life for a friend and got ripped off by my waiter. I drink Tanqueray and tonic and ordered 3 over the course of 4 hours. Woke up this morning with a headache. Same great Neil's, new location. After a fire at their midtown location, Neil's recently relocated to Quince/Yorkshire area shopping center. The bar is a great size for large parties, and has somehow retained the same feeling as the old bar, with a divide between the bar area, and the dining tables and pool tables. The old shuffleboard table (while singed in the fire) is still usable and displayed in the front window. The menu is unchanged, with old favorites like fried mushrooms with horseradish sauce, and burgers, steaks, and grilled chicken sandwiches with mediocre fries. It is a 21-and-up bar with smoking, though families are allowed during Sunday brunch. A jukebox provides great music options and keeps things moving. Several flat screen televisions show different games, and keep bar patrons happy. Ample parking in lot shared by Las Delicias and MemFish. read more

If this happened in my view once I could overlook it but as I have seen it several times, I can not order anything from there again. when mentioned the ownership seemed to think it is my problem not his. Went here for lunch a couple of times recently. Haven't been here since they moved from Midtown. Both times, we had similar experiences. The 1st visit, I had spaghetti, butter beans, and broccoli. The portions sizes were huge, and the flavor of the spaghetti was superb. Some of the best I've ever had at a non Italian restaurant. On the 2nd visit, I ordered the Salisbury steak, baked beans, and slaw. The portion size of the Salisbury steak was quite small. But, the flavor was fantastic. And the beans were superb. Be prepared, however, if you go for lunch during the week, it takes a while. Service was always with a smile, but was quite slow.
