I can't speak highly enough about this gym, the staff and coaches, or the community here. I started my journey with NELA and loved the atmosphere. It's inviting, encouraging, and actually fun. A late-in-life athlete, the coaches are amazing at helping with scaling and answering all of my questions about the different movements and modifying appropriately so I still reach the goal of the workouts I've also used their add on services, including the Olympic weight lifting course and their 1:1 goal coaching. It's a huge value add to my health and workout routines . Lastly, I want to shout out how thoughtful and helpful the coaches have been during my postpartum journey. I wasn't able to workout during my pregnancy and paused my account. Lily and Paul were super encouraging and worked with me when I decided I was ready to come back to the gym, both for moving my body and also for my mental health. I was really nervous about returning, but have felt so supported and welcomed since coming back. I've taken classes with Devon, Erick, Wes, and Pheby and each coach understood my needs and helped make the classes successful for me. Erwin and the whole team are so great. No complaints. Caring, friendly, and invested. They offer workouts and nutrition coaching. I find myself repeatedly coming back even when I want to stay in bed. I love getting stronger and feeling a sense of community with every class, even if there are new faces. There's something grounded, calm, and energized about this gym. I don't feel judged and I know they all want me to succeed. If you decide to go With nutrition-you get a 16 week course for under $1000. Personalized coaching calls, epic meal planning, and a foundation that really sticks. I wish everyone could experience Erwin's heart for health. When they coach you they are intentional with their engagement, with their feedback, & always seeking to prevent injuries. They take the time to help you learn the proper technique in order for you to learn it correctly the first time around. They have a special heart to coach, teach, & even offer CrossFit for kids. They are as gentle to showcase their excellence for kids that are eager to learn the CrossFit form to the advanced adults trucking their way through their next PR (Personal Record). When I started at Nela I was already taking about 4 fitness classes a week, mostly yoga. My weight was okay, but I wanted to be leaner, I wanted to feel stronger, and to have more stamina. So, I thought I'd try Nela. Then - results happened fast. First, I was sore, ha ha! But, I also felt more energized. Then, about 4 months after starting, I got a Dexa scan (for body fat measurement) and saw I'd finally entered the "20% most lean" group - according to the Dexa scan company. I'd been getting Dexa scans for 7 years and never been that lean before. That was a big milestone, and it felt really good. Nela is also a friendly community. I really like the owner, and it's been fun to meet new people from my neighborhood. I've enjoyed all the coaches, and I need to say a shout-out to Coach Lily who is super supportive and motivating. read more

Best gym experience I've ever had. I'm in the best shape (physically and mentally) of my life after coming consistently for a year. I like that they prioritize strength and stamina over things like body weight or shape. The trainers are there to support and help you move and push your personal boundaries in the safest way possible. Class sizes are small enough and I feel like I get the attention I need. I see really experienced athletes here and also people who are just starting their fitness journey. I was told since I don't have "Olympic weight lifting" experience I would not be allowed to take part.I Even mentioned my prior military experience to which the trainer scoffed at me. This review is way overdue! Nela Athletics has been the best gym experience that I've had and I was so sad to leave. My husband and I signed up late last summer and were hooked right away. It isn't just a gym experience; it is a full community of awesome and supportive coaches and fellow gym members. We sadly had to leave due to a cross-country move. I'm confident that we would have stayed members for a long time if it wasn't for having to leave LA! Every coach at Nela Fitness is unique and has their own style of teaching classes. At the same time, they are all so welcoming, patient, attentive, and motivating in their own ways. You can truly feel how much they care about every member. The classes were always fun, energetic, intense, and challenging! Every CrossFit stereotype that I had in my head was completely obliterated through my experience. The other awesome thing about the gym was having the option of the Ignite classes, which were the ones that we participated in the most. They were a great blend of HIIT, strength, and cardio, which was exactly what I was looking for. I'd also like to add that the coaches were so gracious in working with us in regards to our memberships that had to end sooner than expected because of our move. We were so grateful. The rewards of procrastination is an amazing feeling after all the 'groaning, huffing & puffing. After so many months of procrastinating, I finally sent the email that sparked the fuse to get my fitness goals back on track, didn't take long until coach Jason emailed me back, my email couldn't have been more perfect as they are just starting a new "build-up" session, what it is, is a 6-session beginners class focusing on a more hands-on introduction to Crossfit, it also teaches you that Crossfit is less on the "selfies" but more on the "burpees" hence the lack of mirrors in the gym, focusing on proper form and technique instead of checking yourself in the mirror every few minutes ...so put away those camera phones, Believe me, you won't have time for a selfie once you start your workout of the day ha ha Aside from the amazing "Workout of the Day" program, I really liked the sense of community and support among members and coaches that CFER emphasized from the get go, everyone is always greeted with a smile or a handshake. Feeling socially uncomfortable or left out will be the last thing you can think about especially once you start working out. Full-on support & camaraderie, this for me is how I best describe the attitude and atmosphere in this gym. If you are thinking of a new gym or if you have been procrastinating like me - you should give Crossfit Eagle Rock a try, do the "Build-Up sessions" it is the best way to get your feet wet in Crossfit without insecurity and intimidation. I'm a runner and training for the Chicago and NYC marathon but wanted to change up my workout routine to include more muscle toning. I was ecstatic when I learned that CFER was just two blocks from my house. Clean facility, good use of space, and encouraging community of humans dedicated to living a healthy and fit life. I am inspired to be better when i'm here and so thankful to have found this gym :) The build up classes are arranged so that you get a good sampling of all the coaches and learn the technique in good form. I have not yet met a coach that I don't like. They all have great attitudes and are all proficient and skilled at what they do. When i first walked in, it was right after work, in jeans & a shirt..not ready to work out.. & i was welcomed by people :) you see different levels of fitness so don't feel intimidated, please. So i spoke with one of the guys who works there, real nice, Did Not make me feel like he had a quota to meet but was sincere about crossfit & what they had to offer. Before joining the N.E.L.A. Athletics team, I was having trouble finding a career with my Kinesiology degree, was working factory job during the morning & coaching High school football in the evenings. I came across A job opening here @ NELA Athletics & jumped on this new opportunity for my life & career. Since the first couple of days of shadowing the coaches & joining the crossfit group classes, I feel in love with the welcoming & competitive environment. The coaches are very helpful in preparing the members with great warmups before starting the designed main workouts. They also do a great job explaining and demonstrating the workouts. I love how everyday is new workout with a specific goal and target in mind. The coaches create a very welcoming and comfortable environment for all members to gain confidence and self esteem in themselves. From the group crossfit classes, the high intensity interval training, & to the personal training session, this free weights gym has brought back my competitive edge to train and to push myself past my physical limits. My fitness and kinesiology background has helped me to slowly gain confidence in myself to coach several group crossfit class as an intern coach. All the coaches have been extremely helpful in sharing advice and knowledge to continue my journey as a new crossfit coach. I can honestly say this place is amazing... I drive all the way from downtown l.a. to workout here.. why? Cuz the atmosphere, coaches, CrossFit-ers make it all worth the drive (and traffic). I tried their 'week on us' and I am now 2+ months in! Results from taking a CrossFit beating (cuz this is not zumba): I've lost a dress size (yes ladies... one dress size in two months!!!), arms are toned up, tummy is slimming down, legs are starting to tone up and best of all, I feel so much more confident and healthy. CFER coaches are always on top of your form, motivate you to push yourself, and are honestly excited when you improve. Box itself: always clean, bathroom is clean, organized, great music, Flat screen as timer, parking lot in back... 411 on the coaches: Coach Paul- very knowledgable, explains movements very well, pushes you and makes sure you don't rest too much during the workout lol Coach Ryan- I think he's the nicest lol.. He is very good at explaining the why's and how's, Coach Andie- She is a tough one.. nothing gets by her. She pushes you, which is great because that's how you get results! Coach Anne- She is also a tough one, very knowledgable... Coach Christian- patient, fixes your form a lot (good thing so you dont get hurt when you have weights), he makes sure you don't screw up or else.. he yells lol.. At almost every class, there is at least two coaches. So one is teaching and the other is fixing/helping/assisting, which is great because you get that one on one attention. There are cardio specific classes, cardio with weightlifting and weightlifting specific classes. The coaches are focused on your form and safety at all times. Love this place. High intensity exercise makes you happy, fit, sexy, healthy. The coaches are the best. They're friendly, inspiring, and supportive while you work out and also with regard to diet and lifestyle modification. Don't skip out if you feel you're not in the best shape, either. You'll certainly work out alongside some ridiculously healthy people, but there is quite a lot of variation in ability and you'll feel welcome no matter what shape you're currently in. You'll tone up real fast too. :D People complain that cross fit is expensive but It's $150/mo right now for the 3x a week package, I figure 150$/mo / ((3workouts / 7days) * (30days/mo)) = 11.6666667 $/workout It's totally worth it. read more

I have been working out here for about a month and a half and love it! I do the ignite classes and feel like it works full body and is a good hard different work out each time! It's convenient, works with my unpredictable work schedule and seems like they do fun events. Holey Moley! this place is INCREDIBLE!!! They are the nicest coaches ever, they really push you to keep trying and encourage you to do 110% - This place isn't like most gyms, no mirrors so your not distracted by starting at yourself, meaning you really have to make sure your focused. Also everyone is SO nice, people actually will help you out with things, and EVERY one encourages everyone- no egos here!!! Yes, its a little pricey BUT its worth it, you have to evaluate whats more important, and this place it WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!!! read more

CF Eagle Rock is awesome! All the trainers and including the owners Paul and his sister are ALL yes ALL very cool because they always explain the techniques and I never feel like I'm a huge ass freak which I normally do feel like when I'm at a gym. Obviously, I'm new with weights- never really done it before starting here. When I used to go to 24hr fitness in Glendale- I was miserable...but that's another review... The people that workout at this gym are also friendly and cool. I would encourage anyone who is even a little intimidated to come here because they you will feel like you can do it, at whatever level you're at and haha yea you'll feel the burn of course. It's been over a year since I've joined. My feelings haven't changed about this place. To be honest, it became more than just a crossfit box to me in SoCal. I found a community, coaches that genuinely care and the comradery I was looking for. It's came a long way. Paul is an amazing owner. He is definitely cut from a different cloth. I have been at CFER for about 6 months and I have enjoyed every WOD. The staff is great. I usually have a set schedule, so I always go in the evening. Usually my coaches are Christina or one of the Mike's and they all have been great coaches. Always with positive attitude, giving you pointers on how to improve, and all with a smile. CrossFit really works. I see every type of person imaginable getting in the "best shape" doing this stuff. I've now been doing it for 2 1/2 years. Can't say enough about how it works. This Box ("Gym") is one of the best there is. These days, there are more than 5 boxes in every city. None compare to what this box offers. The energy is always on point. I gave it 5 stars because they emphasize safety while not sacrificing the workout. They teach everything. They do not hold back ques or techniques. Be careful of boxes where the coaches are competing with you. They won't teach you all the techniques because you will eventually become better than them. This box does not hold back at all. The space is amazing. The equipment is fully loaded. The growth is unlimited. I highly recommend. read more

Love it here! As a recent trial and now full-time member, I can't say enough about the great experiences I have every time I show up for a workout. It's been a while since I've looked forward to getting an intense sesh in. I can't speak for multiple CF boxes as this is my first and only one, but everyone here is always ready to put in work while remaining extremely friendly and supportive of each other. I personally haven't had this much fun pushing myself since I last played football competitively- working out on my own had simply become mundane lately. Give it a try, you might get hooked! I have been working with my personal trainer Lily Rigual and she has been amazing! She is kind, welcoming, and patient. She is truly an expert and knows exactly what she's doing. She keeps track of my progress and adjusts to my needs as we go along always encouraging me to do my best. Wow, I can honestly say that CrossFit is 10x better than a gym. My coach is a member at CrossFit and the staff was kind enough to let him bring our girls water polo team once a week in the summer for free! The staff was extremely friendly and the workouts they gave were very helpful. After just a forty minute to an hour workout, I would also go home tired. Great atmosphere to work out in and I love the loud music they play. After high school I'm 100% sure I'm going to sign up here instead of a gym to stay in shape! read more

I came to NELA looking for an alternative to working out solo at 24 Hour and the like. As a former college athlete I missed the intensity and camaraderie that sports provide. NELA filled those voids and gave me a sense of community that can be hard to find in a large city. I met some of my best friends there.
