I have two children at Nellie's Daycare and can not say how much my girls love going there. They had been in a different daycare since infancy and we had been looking for a long time to find a new daycare/school that would meet our/their needs. After having a parent from our old daycare tell me about Nellie's and how much they and their little one love the place we had to check it out. We set up an appointment and went to tour it with the girls. Nellie went over the daily schedule with us, showed us around and went over some of the basics when she gave us the contract packet. She let us know at that time that she is pretty strict with her sick policy. That was okay with us as we know what it is like to have to miss work when other children come in sick and the bugs start going around. About two weeks in I got a call to come get my youngest. She just wasn't being herself, something was definitely wrong. I took her to the pediatrician and she ended up having an ear infection with her eyes just starting to show signs of conjunctivitis. Of course, I texted Nellie to let her know and asked if my oldest could still come in the next day as she did not have any symptoms. She asked that she didn't since they were siblings and the likelihood of the older one getting it as well are pretty high. I had no problem with this as it made total sense, I just don't know why I didn't think about it. :) I love that she communicated this and really tries to eliminate the illnesses or potential when there are siblings involved. She really is just trying to make sure that 5 other parents don't have to loose out on time at work over illnesses that could have been prevented from spreading by having those children stay home. Part two - I have noticed such a difference in my oldest child in the short amount of time she has been there. They have been working with her on recognizing the letters of the alphabet, and counting past 10. My youngest has learned some Spanish words to add to her vocabulary, is counting to 10, and is singing the ABCs (She just turned 2). They play outside almost everyday. The field trips have started and it is so nice how she does it in small groups so that the kids get a chance to have more one on one time and things are not super crazy. I have been on field trips with the other daycare and all of the kids going at once can be quite chaotic. They have a participation calendar for every month were the kids get to bring in something to share with their friends, or wear a certain color or pattern that coincides with what they are learning, or something silly and fun like crazy hair day. My oldest loves this as it gives her something to look forward to everyday. Overall my husband and I are very satisfied and happy we found Nellie's DayCare at last. I cannot say enough good things about this daycare! Jeanelle, Alycia, and all of the other ladies are amazing. We knew we would need daycare once our baby turned 6 weeks and the search was overwhelming and scary, especially for first time parents, but once we met with Jeanelle and Alycia we felt so much more at ease and like we had a team ready for our nugget. They continued communication and even checked in once he was born which shows just how much they truly care about the families they work with. They even sent flowers on our first day back to work! Nellie charged $700 a month, per child, for my children to go there part-time. She fed them good meals and snacks and helped me take them to the car. That was nice. But when I tried to clarify her illness policy; I was dismissed. She dropped my childcare with only 48 hours notice, so I took my kids to Kindercare. It was a blessing in disguise! My children now have outdoor playtime (her yard is too wet and muddy all the time), fresh air, and they do tons of art, science, and math there. I get all of their artwork from Kindercare and even pictures of them doing it! Kindercare is worth every penny! This was the BEST upgrade in care EVER. thanks for dropping me Nellie and doing me a huge favor. After reading Nellie's comment below, I will amend my previous criticism to add these things: I am a teacher. I love other people's children. The week we started with Nellie, she had an outbreak of Fifth's disease and Hand, Foot, Mouth disease. Who is bringing sickness into that house I ask? My children haven't had those. Next, my children were sick occasionally. They were 15 months old, they're new to daycare, and they're twins. If one of them catches something, the other will most likely get it. Lastly, and most importantly, which I should have included earlier, she tried to call Kaiser and ask questions about my son- which is ILLEGAL!!! Kaiser called me and told me this! She did not, and when I asked her about it she was nonchalant in her response. If this is the kind of "professional" someone is seeking, so be it. read more

I was asked by Yelp to add more detail to my review in an attempt at NellIe's Daycare to have my review removed. Well here I am back here doing what was asked of me by Yelp. Because that's what I am a Yelp reviewer, I post the good with the bad. I have many occasion been blown away by this woman's horribly one sided mean temper and willingness to change agreed to rules for her own benefit. Can't say enough bad things about this lady, from her temper, to her wanting to get rid of a part time child to make way for a full time child all in an attempt to make more money. My sister-in-law was threatened with legal action for voicing her 1st amendment legal right... Not cool, almost ruined my brothers vacation and brought a always positive soul of a school teacher, one that genuinely cares about shaping the minds of our youth, to tears. Far better place to take your kids. If this is the way the paying parents are being treated, well you can do the math. My kids are precious and there is a reason I don't take them here and neither do my nephews either. She has buried the bad reviews with false positives. Just look at her history! She also shorted us on our deposit at final billing. So let's recap: Changes rules, randomly excludes children, steals, ohh and let's not forget just plainly threatening and negative. We have been with Nellie's day care for a little over a year now. My girls love it there. All the teachers are super nice and caring. They go on amazing field trips.Also they have parents night out about once a month, which works really well for me and my husband. We moved here from out of state , so we have no family or really any friends here. So for us to trust the care of our kids to someone really means a lot. Alyica is amazing. She is always so positive and uplifting. She has even given me some helpful tips for living in Hillsboro. If you are looking for some to care and bring out the best in your child , I would most definitely check out Nellie's. read more

I cannot imagine my life without Nellie's Daycare. My daughter loves it and she is extremely organized and each day is full of learning activities. We have been coming here for years! Our child has been attending Nellie's Daycare for a little over a year and a half and I'm thankful to say we love it. As a parent it can be hard to entrust your child to someone else. When it came time to find a place for our child Nellie's Daycare was the place. Jeanelle is a very positive and upbeat individual who truly loves and cares about children. From the first day I knew my child was not just being cared for but also nurtured. It's always fun to see and hear what he's learning. Nellie's daycare and preschool is amazing! My 4.5 year old boy/girl twins have been attending for a year now. Jeanelle and her staff are great with all the children. My twins have made leaps and bounds with their learning! They are always bringing home art projects and love going everyday. Jeanelle treats my kids as if they were own and makes each one feel special. She feeds them great food and has a great routine that the kids thrive in. Her illness policy really helps keep the illnesses down! She enforces hand washing rules and keeps the facility super clean and organized. Jeanelle uses a great curriculum called mother goose learning that really keeps the kids wanting to learn and greatly entertained. We have no complaints about our tuition fees because it shows everyday in our children's learning and life skills. Jeanelle loves each of her students and has awesome communication with the parents. I have recommended Nellie's Daycare to several people and will continue to, even though my kids are mostly past the daycare age. I found Nellie's when looking for a place to take our twins, as infants. She had us come over to see her facility, and we had the chance to ask questions and be put at ease about leaving our babies in her home. Daycare is expensive, there is no doubt about it, especially for those who have twins or more child than one to care for. We have gone the "cheaper" route of having our kids in someone's home or with a friend, but with Nellie's, the price is worth the security of knowing our children are as cared for as they would be in our own home. Meals, safety, fun - there are absolutely no concerns when I bring our three children to Nellie's, which I continue to do on a drop in basis, even though my kids are now school age. Nellie's offers field trips in the summer, wonderful curriculum during the school year, fun crafts, parents' nights out, and much more. When we experienced a tragedy in our family, Nellie herself took our twins extra days that week with no questions or expectations so that we could get through the first few days of what was an awful time. When they were of potty-training age, the consistency and reinforcement at daycare basically trained them for us! Nellie's Daycare was a huge blessing to us when our children were little. Jeanelle is an incredible lady and the BEST at what she does! We were privileged enough to find a daycare that both of my daughters absolutely love going to. My oldest started going when she was only eight months old and I was blown away by the individual time Jeanelle gave her. My daughter had some difficulty adjusting to her new surroundings which threw off her nap schedule, but Jeanelle took the time each day to try different areas and methods of getting her to sleep until she found what works. Now, at three years old, my daughter still has no problem getting her nap in at daycare. Jeanelle always makes sure she has enough teachers, all wonderful, for each day to make sure every child gets the care they need. They go through so many educational activities my daughter actually comes home smarter than I ever taught her to be. At two she had her ABC's down purely from the songs and lessons she learned at daycare. Jeanelle thoughtfully plans field trips for the kids so they get to experience different adventures, and she offers a "parents night out" every month so the kids get extra special time with each other and the parents get the blessing of a date night! I've never known a caregiver to be so invested and genuinely care for the kids under her care as much as Jeanelle does. A time I was particularly blown away by this thoughtfulness was last year when, upon returning from a much-deserved family vacation, she had brought back a unique gift for each of the children at her daycare! I now have another daughter aged three months who goes to Nellie's along with my other daughter and once again I'm impressed with Jeanelle's level of care. She took the time to ask specific questions about feeding preferences (such as what type of bottles we use, methods, how much and what temperature to serve at - way beyond simply the feeding schedule) and she even gifted us the exact bottles we use to be sure we'd have enough for our daughter while she's at daycare. It really doesn't get any better than this. Along with the highest standard of care, Nellie's is more affordable than every other place I checked. Whenever I chat with friends about the cost of childcare they are shocked at how reasonable our costs are. I brought my boys in to take a look around. Bleached out owner talked on and on....about herself, was vague about some policies and then talked herself up some more. Looking back at some of these other reviews, I have to wonder if the good ones are from family and friends who use her. Her responses to some of the reviews are laughable simply in the fact that she just keeps going on and on....about herself or to blame the parent. The place was okay in cleanliness and the yard looked muddy. She has pictures on the website of thorny briar and blackberry patches and if you 360 theres a baby in a carrier alone in the midst....creepy. I know Dr.s who have seen lots of patients and belong to lots of associations but it doesnt make them a good doctor. Just because you say you have childcare experience and belong to a group with a nice title doesnt make you a good childcare provider....or a good person. There will be good reviews and bad reviews if you own a business, responding to bad reviews like a petulant child is just one of many reasons of why im glad i decided against this woman and her daycare. read more
