Restaurant- can say never experienced Minnesota style pasta before, but after being told it was SOOOOOO good by our waitress decided to give it a try. It was definitely different. It isn't really something you can experience anywhere, but this region. I was told it wasnt tooooooo spicy bc of pepper sauce, but it wasnt spicy at all. The crazy amount of sausage made it really sweet. The flavor of the sauce was too artificial flavoring for me and kinda ruined it. The pasta was cooked fine. Now the amount of melts cheese over the top of the dish was insane! I gave it to my husband and he swirled it on his fork until it looked like a huge lollipop of cheese and i mean HUGE! Husband had the pot roast dinner and he was it was okay. Kinda dry, but okay. I had a bite of his and it had good flavor, but was dry, so he added condiments. He ended up with a BIG piece of unmashed potatoe in his mashed potatoes and was glad to know they weren't instant. BAKERY - disappointing they charge for coffee by the cup, no refills which is nearly unheard of. They said their refill charge was the charge of bringing in your own cup, but i thought that didnt make sense because it's NOT THE SAME- you purchase a small cup of coffee drink it and ask to pay for a refill NOT just walk in with a cup for the initial coffee. This made zero sense!!! the people are less then on the ball, as i was rung up for a coffee after i said never mind to purchasing a "refill". They don't give receipts, which they should, but i asked for one after paying nearly $4 for a piece of bananas bread with the worst artificial flavoring. There is no one in the back mashing the bananas and i am leaning to the side that they dont make the pasteries just simply cook them. There is a difference truth be told. Tossed the bread out once my throat started getting sore from the junk in the bread. Even though i was over charged, the lady who did it was probably their best employee. She wasn't wearing a name tag, but she was really engaging and nice. The 2 cool girls with their name tags of their hats could probably take lessons on how to engage with customers from her, because they were so bored and uninviting. i was gonna get anything from the bakery, but was currious about the bread. 1 star for our restaurant waitress 1 star cleanliness Zero for bakery read more

Our party of four ate dinner there this evening. We were told it would be a 20 minute wait but it was about 10 minutes. We thought we'd go browse at the gift shop. We could barely get past the crowd in front of the baked items. They need to re-figure the flow of foot traffic because it gets too clogged up there. My roast beef sandwich was luke warm as was my son's meatloaf. My husband had hot French toast and my daughter's Monti- Cristo sandwich was hot. There was a fly buzzing around our table. The women's bathroom had flies in it, paper towels on the floor and a tampon floating in the toilet. Gross. One wait staff did say it is usually not this busy on a Sunday evening. The breakfast menu is skimpy for a diner / truck stop. It the food is good. I can totally recommend the wild rice sausage and fritter French toast. I call this "Toby's on the other highway" Not quite the same quality of bakery but way better quality in the restaurant. My boyfriend convinced me to stop at this "truck stop" about 4 years ago. I had driven by it for years thinking I'd never eat at a truck stop. It looks kind of sketchy from the outside, but it's way nicer than one would think. I have continually (ever since that first try) stopped for good, healthy, well-priced, comfort food. If you need to fill your tank and your tummy on your way up north or back down, this is the place to stop. We stop for dinner on a Friday night on the way up to the cabin and get muffins for our breakfast on Saturday morning. Never disappointed in four years! read more

I have been going here since I was a kid. The goods: The fritter bread French toast is my favorite thing, it's even better when paired with the bloody. The bakery typically has a line, but it goes fast. They have delicious donuts of all varieties. They also have amazing cheddar jalapeño bagels and tasty wild rice sausage for sale. the bad: If you visit on a weekend expect to wait 10-15 mins to be seated, but it's worth it. The only thing I don't like is how crammed it is for seating. The booths have a table that's very narrow and it's quite cramped, they also have tables in really inconvenient places. read more

Today. June 24 2012.@9;00 in the morning. I have been waiting for this,to happen.Due to the fact ,there is no special seating area for truckers. Was very crowed with locals,and tourist. So here goes, A trucker gets up to the stand,ask were the truckers area was. Sara the young woman there ,get ''a deer in the headlights look''tries to give him a a pager ,but he gets mad and leaves....Then my turn ,all she has is a table next to the food door. And a pair of booths in the pub,but no wait staff,or a place in the pub.Up on the counter in a high chair. That is the hardest seats ,that I've ever sat on ! Then off to the fuel center,area where they have some hot foods,but not today. The manager came in ,I pointed her out to him ,and from what I saw it was not nice! The managers ,aught to understand that we do not have to buy FUEL here! But we can ,and at times we would like to have a sit down meal ,no matter how pricey you are! Nelsons have 3 basic eating areas, The main dinning room, The Pub,and a out side eating area,that has wait staff... So I get a call from a friend ,and we try again,but Sara was not there seating anyone,or in sight! We was seated out side. Heather L,was our waitress who was GREAT ,as always,fast ,nice ... We stop here every time we drive up to my cabin in the summer, and I have never gotten sick of it in my life. All of their pastries are absolutely delicious, although my favorite is probably their famous fritter bread! Their sandwiches are fabulous, but how could it not be when it's on their homemade artisan bread? I've only eaten breakfast here, but it is always excellent. I recommend the omelet topped with a biscuit and gravy. The only negative is the place is always packed for Sunday breakfast, however we are generally seated in 20-30 minutes and service has always been good. read more

As a local, I rarely eat in the restaurant anymore but if I were travelling through the area this is the place I would stop in Clearwater. I loved this place until July 23, 21. Was traveling and the family waited 6 hours to have dinner here. Got here, sat at dirty table, no biggie when asked it was wiped (food and syrup in several spots) and new silverware brought ( several pur in syrup spots). Ordered a few waters, found a hair in one. Again, no biggie, water was replaced. Ordered 5 meals. When they came 4 had hair in it. Spoke to manager food remade, told he would give us 10% off. Received food (again) kids couldn't eat, still grossed out. We all were and low light made it hard to tell if hair again. Spoke to manager and ask for name of owner, his response was "my cousin". I had to ask 2 more times before he would tell me how to speak with management. When I told him about our concerns of a clean kitchen he told me to trust him it was clean, after 4 out of 5 dished had hair in them. Refused to waive bill, just kept telling us we ate the food ( took a few bites as we were starving). Make comments about us being unreason!unreasonable as well as make innuendo that we were just trying to scam a meal. I paid, and tipped the wait staff (they were good) but management is unprofessional, condescending, and rude. Having worked in the food industry for over a decade I was amazed that the kitchen would be that dirty and floored that management is that bad. I don't complain unless it is really bad, this was the worst overall experience I have had at a restaurant. Disgusting food (hair in 4/5 plates), even worse management. I had been hearing about this place for years and how good it was. I finally stopped in on a Sunday evening at about 6 o'clock. We ordered three appetizers: buffalo wings, mozzarella sticks, and a buffalo chicken flatbread. It took about a half hour to receive our food. In this amount of time the server did not check in on us or acknowledge the fact that we had been waiting quite a while. I had to ask someone to go check on our food. She said they were just waiting on our wings. The server brought our food, but there was no silverware at the table. In all my 20+ years of waitressing, bringing food to the table with no silverware was the number one no-no.I went to find the server and ask for silverware and expressed my unhappiness. She said she would send the manager. We ate our entire meal without the server checking on our food or the manager arriving. We were then in need of a box and our bill. I had to leave the table and go find the manager. She offered several excuses for the poor service. She brought our bill with no discount. When asked if we could receive some percentage off, she went to "check" on this which took another ten minutes. She reduced the bill by 10% and offered us a fritter bread (which I'm sure would've been marked "day old" when they opened the next morning). Will not stop here again. read more

4 stars on their breakfast, thats the only thing I order here. It is a truck stop but I have eaten here several times and always go with breakfast. The rest of the menu also looks good but the fritter french toast is way to good to pass up. They make apple cinnamon, blueberry, and raspberry, all are outstanding! You can even take home a loaf from the bakery for at home. They also have a variety of omlettes that are excellent and you should get the wild rice sausage! It is made at the local meat shop and goes well with any breakfast item. They also have a full bar, the bloody marys are tough to beat, along with many beers and cocktails. If you are headed in the direction of Clearwater don't pass this place up! read more

When my date and I first walked in, the restaurant had a very comfortable atmosphere. We were seated promptly and our waitress was at our side within two minutes. Very pleasant service, but I can not give enough praise to the Chef and kitchen crew. It was obvious to me that our Chef (Rob) was trained in classic French cuisine. The menu may look like American traditional, but my taste buds were screaming a perfect fusion of American/French deliciousness. I've lived in the area for 10 years. I dined here 8 years ago and had a good experience. Today, on our way to Fargo, we decided to stop for lunch. I was excited to introduce this place to my boy friend. Not good. 40 minutes to get our food. ... (at 230pm in the afternoon. ... so not busy), food was then served warm not hot. Our server was in some sort of weird daze. She didn't check back with us, never apologized for the delay, didn't respond when we asked if 40 minutes was an appropriate time to wait. Then to top it off.....a family with whiny children came in and they were seated in the center of the restaurant. What idiot would do that? Put them in a corner so they don't bother all the dining patrons. We won't be back. Completely unfortunate. Perhaps their food rep can do a server training. .... They need it! read more

We've been stopping here on our way to or from family gatherings for at least 10 years. My entire family loves it. It has been our go-to place for Thanksgiving for the last few years and never been disappointed with anything ordered in the restaurant or in the bakery/deli. Pie is fabulous and cinnamon rolls as big as your head. Love it! My only gripe is getting back onto 94 can be tricky. Wish they had a stop light or something at their entrance.
