I was frankly a little skeptical about taking my 9-10 year old Craftsman 24" snow blower (that's never been serviced) to Nelson's after reading all the negative feedback on Yelp, but it wasn't starting up and I had no clue how to fix it. The guy there was nice and helped me get it out of the back of my SUV. When I asked for quote for figuring out why it's not starting up, he said they charge $85/hour and would call me with an estimate once they take a look at it. I dropped it off on Saturday, Mar.14. They called me with a detail quote two business days later on Tuesday, Mar.17. They suggested more efficient and cost effective way of fixing it would be replacing the carb assembly. They also pointed out one of my tires was low which caused the auger scraper to wear unevenly and recommended replacing that as well. Spark plug was original and new one was pretty cheap, so I asked him to replace it, too. By Thursday, Mar.19, they fixed the engine not starting issue with the new card assembly, put in a new spark plug, tire innertube, new auger scraper, flushed the fuel system and put in some non ethanol fuel, which they told me has a 12 month shelf life, so I can keep that in the tank till next season vs regular gas only lasts about 30 - 45 days, so that should always be used up before storing it away after the winter. All that (see the last pic of the invoice for more detail) for $243.08 and some great advice along the way. Hopefully the snow blower will last many more seasons, especially now that I know how to better take care of it. I guess others who left all that negative feedback and low rating had some bad experience, but mine was great and I would certainly recommend giving Nelson Bros a shot! Very customer supportive. Set expectations up front, kept me informed as to time line and extremely ethical. Mower wouldn't start, blown fuse - switched out ignition switched from the wrong one I bought on Amazon. Engine starving for fuel - new gas pump, air filter, and their time. After 5 min running, same issue. Brought it back - didn't have to wait back in line took it in right away. Gas tank had debris settling, partially blocking fuel line. I received service on my snowblower last year and it took them several days to work on it and get back to me. They ended up giving my snowblower to someone else on accident which happens, no problem. So they delivered mine back to me, which was great. However, not even a few times of using the snowblower the carburetor again had issues and I had to take it in. They charged $100 last year for the service and now this year they charged $155. I find it ridiculous that I get charged $255 combined for the same issues on the snowblower and it not being completely fixed the first time. Unfortunately they said they will not do anything to help so I will no longer be getting any service from the Nelson Brothers. read more

I contacted Nelson Bros to do a tune up and repairs on my snow blower. I was told there was a $50.00 fee to pick up and deliver. They looked it over and called me with a $350.00 - $500.00 estimate (tune up, belt and bushing/bearing). That is way too much for a 10 year old snowblower. We talked briefly about a new/ used one. I said I would call back. I decided to not have it fixed or buy another one and called to make arrangements to have it delivered back to me. I said, OK, I owe you some money. I said $50.00 for the pick up and delivery and....he says, ah yes, the $50.00 for pick up and delivery and $29.00 for the estimate. He says, I have to add them together. I will put it back together and we will deliver it tomorrow. It was delivered on time, but they charged me $59.00 for the delivery. REALLY? I had my phone on speaker phone and a co-worker heard exactly what he and I said. Way to rip someone off. Especially a senior. I won't refer anyone to you. read more
