A week later a staff person from her office left me a voicemail about following up on a lab test order and, when I called back, her attitude and tone were snarky on the phone from the start. I explained that I'd gotten the voicemail and did not see a test order in my paperwork. She replied in what felt like a sarcastic tone that she wouldn't be able to address my question if she didn't know who she was talking to, rather than just simply asking for my name and birth date. Then she insisted the order had been given to me and when I repeated that I didn't have it (I'm careful about paperwork), she continued to make this claim. I finally interrupted her and said that, well, I didn't have it. She responded in a huffy voice that they would have to do another order and where did I want to go? I didn't know offhand where the closest lab was and I got the same tone when she stated that she couldn't do an order if I didn't give her a location. I said I would get a location and fully intended to call back but, after hanging up, I realized how tense I felt after that interaction. I called back and said that because of this rudeness, I was going to ask my PC provider for another nephrologist recommendation. I have never done that before, but this was my initial interaction with this office and I knew that I did not want to ever go back there and experience such behavior again.

And if the only thing they could fix is a can that won't open, they'd be the University of Canopeners Hospital. But they're not. This Hospital looks really fancy and has had a massive revamp since the first time I was here, or feels like it anyway... and the part that you probably are most familiar with unless you have been in here a lot is the spectacular bridge for pedestrians right over the roadway. The inside is less spectacular. Bad hygiene for a hospital. Insane wait times. Some pretty unfriendly people. But they do see everyone and take care of everyone - as best they can - and I appreciate that. Our wait was close to 2 hours but it could have been worse, I suppose.

The cafeteria in particular is much better than any I've experienced. Prices are reasonable and there are a lot of healthy options, plus water and ice to keep yourself hydrated. Nursing quality can be hit or miss, depending quite frankly on age of nurse and desire to work. Fortunately I'd say it's more hit than miss. Surgery team is excellent and where the hospital really shines is in the ICU. That team was incredible, with very compassionate staff. Thanks for all you did.

Earlier this month, I had an appointment scheduled to see Dr. Zainab H. Alalawi, this was per a…read morereferral from my primary care physician. The appointment was scheduled 2-3 months earlier. I completed as requested several online forms prior to the appointment date. One day prior to my appointment, I received a call from Dr. Alalawi's office, reconfirming my appointment for the next day. I was also asked additional questions during this call. When the office determined that my neurological problems, was the result of an automobile accident, that may result in litigation, I was told that Dr. Alalawi did not take any appointments that have or may have litigation. Although, I feel that a doctor has the right to decide what patients they choose to treat, I do feel, with the amount of time it takes to see a medical specialist, 2-3 months on the average, this information should be provided and asked very early in the process of waiting. But to be told I don't fit within their business model, the day before the appointment, is just poor business practice. Be Forewarned.
