Been coming here for SCUBA diving lessons and have loved every moment. Laurie, the owner, is so kind and super knowledgable. The SCUBA class was small and I felt like I have learned a lot and also received really good time with the instructors practicing our dives and techniques. Also, they offer a lot of different courses for those who may already be SCUBA certified or want to enhance their knowledge. John was my instructor and Becky helped him and I have absolutely found a new passion. Laurie also has this place stacked with all the things you could ever need for diving and she is honest and upfront about the products, how they assist divers of various levels, and I have seen her help clients who have come in with gear from other locations and try to help them out. Our family has had the opportunity to interact with Neptune on 3 different levels two of which led to dive certification. Our 8th grader participated in a certification program through Rowland Hall where they attend, our 3rd grader attended spring break camp through Waterford where he attends, and I did the executive program for certification. All three programs were executed professionally, with kindness and acceptance for all individuals at their level. This shop carries everything you need to be successful and the staff are extremely helpful in finding the right fit for you personally. The best local dive shop. I buy all my dive gear here. Great selection and Lori is happy to order in any sizes or gear not in stock. Zero pressure just really helpful. I wanted to buy my son a BCD when he came home for Christmas. I told her a couple of months earlier. She made sure she had a big selection in his size to choose from. We bought just what he wanted! Lori is Miss Personality, always happy and helpful. Her husband is helpful putting together and repairing any dive gear and is so easy to talk with. Had a great experience getting open water certified at Neptune Divers. Bruce was my instructor and he was great. Lots of experience, knowledgable, and was very clear and to the point. Everyone in my class passed the written test with no problems and we had a good time at Seabase for our open water dives. The shop itself seemed to have a good selection of gear. Students get a 10% discount and they did have some snorkel packages at a discounted price. I'm new to the scuba scene so the prices seemed steep for me, but the gear was probably top quality so prices were most likely justified. Staff is super friendly and helpful. They all seem to be avid divers and know their stuff. Minus one star for the cleanliness of the pool and changing rooms. Definitely saw some band-aids floating in the water and was glad to be done with the pool classes. The place itself is pretty small and a little run down, but not too shabby Lastly, they have a monthly local dive that you can join at no cost (as long as you have your own gear). They also organize dive trips to some pretty cool places, such as Belize and Bahamas. Good way to keep up with your diving cert! read more

We LOVE neptune divers. We certified there a few years ago, and have been going back ever since. Here are a few points of distinction: 1. Their instructors are helpful, caring and polite. Dean Wangsgard was my instructor, he took the time to make sure I was comfortable with the material and gave me the one on one attention I needed during my open water tests. 2. They give their loyal customers discounts. 3. They plan regular trips to keep your fins wet. A great e-mail update list that keeps everyone up to date. 4. They're better than other shops in town. Great place. Great people. New to diving and looking to get certified? Neptune Divers is packed with instructors with a LOT of experience - many, many years, and many different certifications (i.e. sub-specialties). They're also very flexible and helpful getting you set up in the water. No push to buy masks, fins, snorkel. They let you try all their stuff on before you buy. It's amazing and super helpful because all of that gear should be personal, but to get good stuff you need to make a bit of a financial commitment. And with the 10% discount for students, the prices are comparable to what you'll find online (I looked around - this stuff just doesn't go on sale the same way all the outdoor gear at Backcountry does). As far as classes, Neptune is actually really flexible. You can pay a little more and do a custom scheduled class to work with your busy life. They were very accommodating with last minute changes too (can't dive with a head cold, after all). As far as the open water, I think everyone goes to Seabase to get it done. Can't complain about that here, because we are in Utah. It has it's own type of charm I suppose. We couldn't make 2 consecutive weekend days work, so they were nice enough to let us split them across 2 weekends. And getting to do this in a small group makes it more efficient, which was really nice. The certification through Neptune is SSI, which is all online based. My understanding is that PADI requires everyone to buy ($$) a book, while the online content for SSI is included in the course. There is also a free app and online tracking of your dive log 1 yr on their app. At the end of the day PADI, NAUI, and SSI (and probably others) are all internationally recognized and will get you the training you need. There are online databases that the dive shops in your tropical location will be able to access to verify you've completed your open water certification. And SSI has tons of specialty courses to follow - Nitrox, deep diving, wreck diving, dry suit diving, etc. Neptune has people that do all of these and can answer questions for you once your head starts spinning with loft day dreams of your future career in SCUBA. So why not 5 stars? Maybe I should. Yelp says 4 = "Yay! I'm a fan" (true), and 5="As good as it gets!" Can Neptune be better? From a people, offerings, flexibility, and LOCAL shop standpoint I couldn't ask for more. The facilities could be better. They are adequate, they're not swanky. The pool is okay, the changing areas are sparse but clean. But I'm getting the impression that that is the norm for this sport. SCUBA, though expensive, has a surfer-esk feel to the on-land culture. People who love it will invest a lot of money, their vacation time, their energies, into SCUBA simply because they love it. They love the water, the animals, the experience read more

After calling around to different dive shops in SLC, Neptune seemed like the best deal to get my open water scuba certification. My instructor was Brad. He has tons of diving experience and is a great teacher. Getting certified is a commitment though. The class was from 630 to ~930-10pm, twice a week for 3 weeks. Before every class, there was about an hour+ of homework (reading, filling out a worksheet, short video). The first portion of the class lecture based, while the last couple of hours was spent in the pool. After the 6 classes, we went to Bonneville Sea Base in Grantsville UT for two full days (8am-2pm). Sea Base has some beautiful fish, a tunnel, sunken boat, and even a 9 foot nurse shark. The visibility isn't very good, but that's because it's a lake. It was a lot of fun and I felt like it was a better place finish my dive certification rather than the Homestead Crater. By the time I finished the classes and finished the dive at Sea Base, I feel pretty confident for a beginning diver, which is exactly what I hoped to accomplish. The dive shop, Neptune, has a good variety of equipment to choose from. They let you try out a lot of the gear in the pool before you buy, which is nice. The staff was always helpful in answering questions. The classroom, changing rooms, pool, and the equipment you borrow (for free) until you get your own were a little lacking though. Their pool is now sanitized by salt water, which is much better for diving than chlorine is. The pool is small, but still big enough for a small class. Even though it was a big time commitment, I loved getting certified through Neptune. Just go ahead and do it. read more

This shop has 100% changed my life, and let me be a part of their amazing dive family. From the second I walked into the store, I was greeted with smiles and friendliness. When I certified in 2010, I had an excellent instructor, Lynne Findlay. He was extremely knowledgable and had an extensive background in the field. The class only had 2 other students, so we had ample time to practice and make sure that each of our skills were perfect before we moved on. Throughout the class I got to know the owners very well, and they treated me like a little sister, I loved it, to the point that I didn't want to walk out of the shop and never return. I was hooked, for sure. I signed up for one of their monthly "Dive-alongs" and went to Sand Hollow and had an amazing experience diving with 15 other divers, all associated with the shop. Lori, one of the owners, remembers just about everyone and their story, so it was refreshing to come into a store, run by a family, that remembers your name, face, story, and scuba abilities. They never try to aggressively sell to you, instead theyre honest and upfront about what you actually need. They found my first mask, give me a killer discount, and I've been coming back ever since and buying more and more gear.
