Came in for our first open water dive with Neptune divers and we had a great time. Despite the very chilly temperature the water was 71 degrees over in the abyss and 56 in the outdoor water area. The staff was very friendly and there was lots of parking. They have areas for you to rinse off and change. They have a place for you to refill tanks. It's a beautiful place to practice diving. Would love to come out in the summer when it's a bit more comfortable weather wise. read more

Bonneville Sea Base is a commercial diving spot out by the Grantsville Mountains that lets Intermountainers have a true terrestrial saltwater diving experience! There are three ponds there that you can dive in, the deepest (and warmest of the three) being The Abyss which goes down to 60 feet, and the other ones only being about 20 or so feet deep. Since this base was founded for scuba diving, Bonneville Seabase has gone the extra mile to make the experience optimized for the activity, they have put green house covering over all water areas (to help keep them warm) as well as designed all the "flow" of the base to make things convenient for scuba divers, such as where you hang things, how you walk through it, where you change, where you sit, enter/exit, etc. For what it is, Bonneville Seabase is as good as it gets for a terrestrial scuba diving spot. The only reason I am not giving it five stars is that I would need to go again, as I only went as a scuba certification in the Abyss to 25 feet and I will need to check the other ponds and depths to give it a full review of the experience! read more

As a fairly inexperienced diver looking for a unique dive on my travels through Utah, I booked two dives with guide Will Rogers Friday 9/27/19. First, my guide was outstanding in his hospitality, knowledge & patience. I love diving but I honestly have not had that many positive experiences with instructors/guides & Will far exceeds anyone else I've dealt with in a similar capacity. It was also outstanding to be the only client & he spent much more time with me than necessary. I felt it was an excellent value for the dive experience, technical input & generally increasing my knowledge of the diving world. Second, diving conditions. As I was expecting having read many online reviews, it was pretty murky. Our first dive was to the "Abyss" a 60' dive down a deep, dark tunnel. It's pretty much exactly what you would expect & safely overcoming your fears of depth/darkness is part of learning to dive. Visibility was probably about 6-8 feet, not that there was much to see. Bonus, it was a warm 80 degrees. Our second dive was in the "White Rocks" fish feeding area leading through a short tunnel to "Habitat Bay" with a sunken boat. Most noticeably, the visibility was limited to 4-6 feet & it was much cooler at 72-74 degrees. Here, we spent most of our time around 15-20 feet depth. We fed the (aggressive but not scary) drum pieces of fish from little bags & saw an angel fish before we swam over to check out the boat. You can't really see the boat due to visibility, but again I feel like learning to dive (& not panic or get lost) in murky conditions is part of learning to be a better diver. Third, the setting & reservation. It's kind of located in the middle of nowhere outside of Salt Lake City. The buildings look tired but my rental gear was in condition & ready to go upon my arrival. It was nice to take a warm shower/wash my wetsuit after my dives in their basic showering area. I emailed the shop a few days prior to my arrival & it couldn't have been easier to set up my dives. The handiest place in Utah to dive and train. Great people, excellent service everything is in house and available from purchases to rentals to air fills right there. Hands down the most beautiful fish in Utah are seen here. The staging area when it's cold is just amazing, it's heated and the abyss is always very warm for training. They have on site showers with heated water. Some other reviewers have noted that we are in Utah, Utah does not have great visibility anywhere until you get in a dry suit and deal with very cold temps. It's rarely under 6' visibility unless you have bad trim/ fin strokes and kick it up. Or if you get in right after an OW class. The beauty of the 3 pool system is the class never goes to all of them. Let me start of by saying that the owner of Seabase is a very nice gentleman and I hope his business is prosperous. My wife and I drove from Chicago to Ventura Beach, CA in September and decided to stop here, as it seemed an interesting location. What you frequently hear about Sea Base is that this is a saltwater lake with a salinity/temperature level that supports sea life. So, that is only somewhat true. The "lake" is actually a set of 3 or 4 pools. They appear to be man made, and serve a variety of purposes. One is a 60' deep well shaped pool. Another set of connected, shallow (12-14ft deep) pools host some sea life. The problem is that visibility approaches two inches after any diving has occurred. The bottom is some kind of soft silt, and it really clouds easily. We had purchased some lettuce to feed the fish with, but even holding the lettuce up to my mask, I could barely see the head. I could hear and feel fish eating, but I could see nothing. Overall, we used the time to test some new gear before getting out into the ocean a few days later. read more

Despite the fact that Seabase is out in the middle of nowhere, with pools teeming with gross murky water, this is actually a great resource to people in Utah for Scuba Dive Training. I wouldn't come out here just for fun, cause the water has virtually no visibility. For the purpose of training though, it is a great place to go. They have a changing area, and showers that you can use after you are done. Some fish exist in the pools and they have a deeper pool that allows you to get down much deeper for training purposes. I wasn't impressed by the guy working the desk as he was really grumpy and kind of rude to us, when we were trying out best to be friendly to him. It shouldn't take much to just be nice to the customers so that is a definite area of improvement. The groundskeeper lady was really nice though and even gave us some flower seeds to take home and plant! Overall, would recommend this place for training but that's about it. read more

The people here are great, fun funny people who go out of their way for you, no the diving isn't ocean and visibility isn't more that 10' but there are lots of fish too see if you sit on the bottom platforms with lettuce you will get plenty of visitors, had a puffer come up to kiss/eat our camera. No its not open water but for training it beats most of the mud holes in this part of the country that have nothing to see in them. read more

We have a dive store in Great Falls, MT and we're headed to Las Vegas for the DEMA Dive Convention. This stop was planned and I am so glad we decided to stop and meet the wonderful people here. Two of us dove and fed the fishes! The visibility is a concern. However, we were careful not to stir up the silty clay and we were able to get some wonderful footage of the fish, including a beautiful puffer! (Look for the footage on our FaceBook, A to Z Scuba in Great Falls!) I think the day before the place was extremely busy and that type of activity makes a difference. I think next time we will try to be here on Thursday to allow the clay silt to settle. While two of us dove, the other two of us chatted with the staff while drinking hot coffee and enjoying the beautiful view. It really is a unique and amazing find. We talked about the ability for our scuba students to be able to complete their open water training in warm water at the Seabase during winter training, even if it is snowing and below zero in our neck of the woods. We were immediately made welcome and found a great time talking shop, laughing and learning from people who are as excited about Scuba diving as us! This spot is worth the time and effort just to say you have seen it and to enjoy the unique experience! read more
