I chose this gym for the convenient location and easy parking. I'd never done a full walkthrough,…read moreso I popped in one afternoon and was genuinely impressed by the old-school vibe. It felt like a perfect match for someone who appreciates real gym culture over shiny boutique studios. But the longer I trained there, the more the cracks started showing--and they add up fast. The equipment is a mixed bag. The free weights feel satisfyingly heavy (old-world heavy, great for pumps), and I really loved the turf area--it's loaded with punching bags, sleds, aerial bands, kettlebells, Bosu balls, a vibration plate, and more. It's genuinely impressive... when it's not a zoo. People constantly cut across paths or leave equipment scattered everywhere. Lanes or some basic traffic management would make a huge difference. The machines, mostly older Techno Gym and Hoist units, are where things fall apart. Many have off motions, some are missing weight scales entirely so you can't even tell what you're lifting, and the abductor/adductor machine has a weirdly tilted seat that forces awkward positioning and incomplete reps. The locker room was a constant frustration. Way too small for the traffic, with tiny lockers that barely fit a gym bag--forget squeezing in shoes, a phone, or a hat. It's also uncomfortably hot with terrible ventilation, and the black toilets plus lack of any real vanity area made post-workout routines feel like a hassle. Same story with the abysmal shower water pressure. Nothing about the space felt luxurious despite the "low membership, high quality" marketing. The infrared sauna gets plenty hot but is clearly showing its age (the teak creaks like it's begging for maintenance). The cycle studio is actually awesome--super dark and built for intense rides--and the yoga studio with skylights and soft wood floors is cozy. The stretching room has a stretching cage and free percussion guns, but with only one cage and limited space, it quickly turns into a crowded mess. Two reformers are a nice touch, though. The recovery area has real potential: hot bath, cold plunge, red light panel, and Norma-Tec boots. But everything is pay-to-play after the first use (one free recovery session per month, $35 extra after that; InBody scans are $15 each). At my previous luxury club, these were included with your membership. They send a cute monthly newsletter highlighting employee of the month and new equipment, which is a nice touch, but it doesn't hide the feeling that the club is running on limited operating capital. Everything feels a little gimmicky and nickel-and-dimed. I really wanted to love this place for its old-school soul and solid turf setup, but at $199 per month, the headaches and lack of luxury simply aren't worth it. I'll miss the turf training the most, but I won't be renewing. Best avoided unless you're okay with paying premium prices for a dated experience.

I think at the time, 2003 or so, I was a sophomore and I was catching up on those community service hours (on top of it, I know). I remember I had to do a lot of trash pick up and cleaning up graffiti. Aside from that, in these last couple of years, I frequent the recreation center to play basketball (indoor). Their basket ball gym is so cool! First of all, its air conditioned. Second, they always music playing. And, finally, they have a total of 6 hoops. Two main ones and two on each side. However, sometimes they might have only a few down. It just depends. There's definitely regulars here who come in the afternoon to play five on five. Te best times to come are usually the first three hours after its opened. Its dead during the first couple of hours. Honestly, I love this place to shoot around, practice, relax and get away for a bit from everything. The following information below derives entirely and directly from the Chula Vista web site under recreation services. Built in 2000, the Otay Recreation Center includes a gymnasium, game room, patio, and a fitness center. The programs offered at the Otay Recreation Center accommodates a wide array of participants, ranging from toddlers to youth to senior citizens. The center contains a wide-spectrum of activities as well. The fitness center, which requires a membership, contains a variety of state-of-the-art equipment, including cardio machines, free weights, and weight lifting machines. The game room is open during our normal hours of operation for drop in play and consists of pool tables, foosball tables, a ping-pong table, and more. The gymnasium is available for open recreational play each night, for more information on the schedule, please calls the center or click on the link above. The Otay Recreation Center also offers a wide variety of recreational classes. These classes consist of many preschool classes, Ready, Set, Learn, Bumble Bee Sports, Apples to Zebras, Ballet, and more. Other classes offered at the center include, ballet, zumba and belly dancing. The gymnasium, game room, classroom, and patio are available for rentals. PARENTS, BEWARE OF STORM VOLLEYBALL CLUB This review…read moreshould've been written a long time ago. STORM has been operating unchecked for too long, and it's time the truth comes out. The club is disorganized, full of favoritism, and completely lacking transparency. Basic structure and communication are a joke. Ask about where your $ goes, and you'll be met with disrespect. Besides the high monthly dues, you're charged with additional "coach's per diem" per tournament with no clear explanation, no breakdown of where the addtl fees goes, just a cash grab. Club is highly evasive when asked about $$. Try asking for a breakdown of cost, and you'll be labeled a "problem" or "not a team player". Coach Wera is a major red flag. She blames kids for losses, offers no support and brings in outside players from Mexico who get more playtime than the kids who actually paid to be there. Club is run by Team Moms who make sure their kids get all the playtime - skill or no skill. If you're not part of the "in" crowd, don't expect fair treatment. They ignore the vball association's "stay-n-play" rules whenever it's convenient - usually to pacify loud, entitled parents. More favoritism. Club owner Marlena only cares about $$. Player development? Growth? Fairness? Not her priority. Her focus is on how much she can collect from each family. Bottom line, this club is toxic, unfair and driven by money and politics. Your child deserves better. Run - don't walk - another club!!

I'd say the cleanest I've seen ANY of the local 24 hr fitness gyms around the area. Using the equipment, all of the plates were equally distributed. I didn't have to go searching for 45 or 35 plates. The same went for the free weights. They were all located where they needed to be. The bottles were also filled, so it helped to keep the equipment wiped down and clean. I met Brian and Victor and told them how impressed I was with the gym. They have been doing a great job. I plan to make this my main location now. Thank you guys!

Yet, I spend 15 hours in Chula Vista, 5 days a week and both facilities are convenient. The way this one is declining I have to add is this one about to be closed? *Q: Why am I concerned about this gym?* A: Machines are consistently out of order, and when they are "fixed," the repairs often look like makeshift patches. For a national chain charging higher membership fees, this is unacceptable. *Q: What about cleanliness?* A: At 5:45 AM, the bathrooms are disgusting. Chunks of hair on the floor. Trash completely filled. Toilets with bio-stains, I could go on. I've seen the cleaning staff present, yet there is no sanitation or disinfectant in the bathrooms. She's disgusted and does minimum. How does this meet even the most basic hygiene standards? *Q: How does this affect members?* A: Members are paying for a facility that should already be fully equipped and maintained. Members rely on safe, functional equipment. Instead, the gym looks like a salvage yard of broken machines. *Q: How do I manage?* A: I stick to barbell training, so I don't rely much on machines, but that doesn't excuse the neglect. Many members do rely on those machines, and they deserve better. Today. We are done with the "out-of-order machines." *Q: What message does this send?* A: That local 24 hour management and corporate are fiscal predators and give us less than minimum service. Technically once you have the machines the easy part is keeping them up it's not like they have to constantly buy equipment and materials to maintain a safe gym. There's so many people who want work and they will come in and keep it clean, everywhere. Covid standard guidelines for gyms, should remain. Raising rates while ignoring basic maintenance and sanitation is an insult to members. *Q: What do I want answered?* A: Why is corporate charging more while providing less? Why is sanitation ignored? And what accountability will be put in place so this gym doesn't continue to decline? "Health is wealth."
