Our family has been part of this incredible dance studio for years, and we couldn't be more grateful for the impact it has had on our daughters' lives. Victoria has been dancing here for 5 years, and Isabel just completed her first year--and both have grown in ways that words can barely capture. The studio has nurtured not only their passion for dance but also instilled in them a deep sense of determination, discipline, and work ethic--all while keeping the experience fun, exciting, and full of joy. The coaching staff is nothing short of amazing: creative, highly educated, and truly invested in each dancer's growth, both as performers and as people. This place is top tier & we are so happy to have heard about it! The amount of trophies around the studio speak for itself! Franchesca, the owner is professional and kind. You can tell that dance and teaching are her true passions. All of her instructors seem wonderful and the students are thriving! This place houses some major talent! My daughter is so excited to attend her Hip Hop class each week. My daughter is also hoping to add more classes soon! It's a semi-strict environment (in a good way as the children need that) and a true commitment when signing up. Great recreational and competition dance studio. My daughter has been a part of this studio for a long time that it has become like a second home for her and she loves it. My daughter was going to SDDA for a little over 2 months before we had to make the decision to pull her from the academy after an unsettling incident occurred and was handled extremely poorly. After a Thursday class, my daughter was sitting next to a group of 3 older girls (students A, B, and C) while getting her stuff ready to leave. As my daughter is putting on her sweater, student A grabs the sweater from her and throws it across the floor. My daughter then proceeds to stand up to get her sweater, when student A grabs her around her ankles to purposely stop and trip her. Naturally, my daughter fell so hard we were able to hear the impact from outside. Student A then hides my daughters shoes from her and when she finally gives them back, student A begins to pull on my daughter's face mask and snap it back. Meanwhile, students B and C were sitting there, watching it all happen. Once my FIL was able to get through the lobby, he pulls my daughter out and brings it to the dance teacher's attention. Seemingly shocked, she asked Student A "why" and she began to fib about what happened. My FIL had to step in and tell her what really happened. No apology was given from anyone that day. Fast forward a couple days (Saturday), while purchasing tickets for my daughter's dance recital, my FIL approaches Ms Franchesca about the incident. Apparently Ms Franchesca was aware that the incident had occurred but was not given the full story and was under the impression that the girls were playing around. A meeting was scheduled for the 3 of us to discuss our concerns the following Monday. As we're meeting with Ms Franchesca on Monday, she continuously expresses that it's an unfortunate incident that occurred and it was behavior she's never seen from Student A, whom she's known her for 4 years. She also expressed that the parents were extremely embarrassed and "sorry" and that the student is on probation with the academy. We brought up concerns about the students being unsupervised, the cameras in studios that weren't "turned on that day", and had my FIL not been there to witness the entire incident, no one would've known the full story. She again apologized but could not offer us much comfort/security with our daughter's safety and well being. We also brought up concerns about the environment that is being created at the academy for Student A to feel comfortable enough to repeatedly try to hurt my daughter, while 2 other students just sat there and watched. No one spoke up and no one got an adult involved. To any parent, this is bullying behavior but Ms Franchesca refused to see it as so and referred to it as "bad decisions were made that day". In this meeting, we informed Ms Franchesca that my daughter would no longer be attending her academy after her dance recital. My daughter had only 2 more classes before the recital and Ms Franchesca did not take this opportunity to have the students apologize to my daughter for their actions. For someone who was really "concerned" and "apologetic", her lack of action in every aspect was unacceptable. One of the most upsetting part is that she heard there was an incident at her facility and she failed to call/reach out to see if she's sustained any injuries or to hear the full story until WE had to bring it to her attention. This does not show care or concern for her students and/or it shows favoritism. To this day, neither student(s) nor their parents have acknowledged or apologized for what happened. read more

My little Zoe was dancing when all of a sudden she was practicing her aerial and the teacher didn't want to help her at all and she landed incorrectly and went home crying and we too her to emergencys and they told us she had a broken leg. Thanks a lot SDDA read more

My daughter's been at this school for about three years and LOVES it! The instructors are GREAT and work with the girls at THEIR LEVEL! They encourage them and build their confidence with positive re-enforcement even when they are struggling. My daughter struggles with dance, but she really, really loves it. SDDA instructors got to know her, made her feel comfortable, gave her encouragement, and met her right where she's at to help her in her dancing education. This dance studio is like a family. It's more than just learning how to dance and performing at dance recitals, it's valuing the whole child. SDDA gets it. They take the time to get to know every single student and really make them feel special. Totally a hands-down, first-class dance school. SDDA also is very affordable. They also accept EUs from charter homeschools! SDDA is willing to be a vendor if it isn't currently on your charter homeschool's list. Ask about it at the front desk. Give this school a try, folks! So many good things but let me start by saying that all teachers are fantastic!!. My 5 year old daughter loved ballet with Miss Franchesca and also took tap class that she absolutely loved. My daughter attended this dance school for months and we are sad to move to a different city, which is why we had to leave. However, we do very much recommend this school!!!. I purchased a Groupon for 8 classes and my 9 year old daughter started with Ballet and Ariel Yoga. After the Groupon was finished I signed her up with Ariel Yoga, the teacher is amazing and my daughter loves her. I recently signed up my 3 year old in Ballet and she loves her classes and her instructor. The instructors are great with kids and in the short amount of time my daughters have been there I can see the progress they've made and am very pleased with their achievements. My daughters always look forward to going to their class. I am happy to have found this place and to see them excited to go to class. read more

My daughter has been comming to San Diego Dance Academy for the past two years and sheloves it. Th teachers are vey professional and have the best skills to teach your girls the teqnique depending of the type of dance. The end of the year festival is a show you do not want to miss. I decided to write this review because I noticed the academy was lacking in RECENT reviews and I don't feel the few reviews on here do this place justice... We first heard about this place through Groupon. They had a great deal....8 classes for about $30, so we decided to give it a try for our 4 year old. From the day she stepped in to her Ballet 1 class at SDDA, she was hooked. Ms. Francesca is so great with her students, and you can tell that she loves and appreciates each and every one of them. The students love her as well, and I have seen such a huge improvement in my wiggly, can't pay attention for 5 seconds, can't stop staring at herself in the mirror 4 year old. The recital is in a month and a half and I seriously cannot wait to see the performance! This school has also won several awards, and they take pride in their instruction. I love that they offer so many different classes all throughout the week so you're not limited to just one class in one time slot. The prices are pretty reasonable too, even without the groupon, compared to other dance locations that we've looked at. We couldn't be happier with SDDA! Just come try it and you'll see what I'm talking about! read more

I purchased a Groupon about a month ago. I purchased 8 classes for $35. The first contact made was when I called to see what classes my daughter could take. I was greeted by a friendly younger girl and was told to come in whenever. I came in Thursday. The owner was on vacation so I filled out paperwork. The teacher was 10 minutes late but she was great. The next day, the tumbling was very lethargic. She looked as if she wanted to be any other place but the classroom. I finally met the owner and she was a bit unorganized. She took my Groupon number and... that was it...no real greeting and no conversation. Pointe class was next... A few students left after 20 minutes, they removed their pointe shoes and stretched. This week pretty much sealed the deal as far as me not coming back. I was appalled at the lack of discipline in the class. Girls had their cell phones, taking picture, talking the entire class, and dancing like they were strippers. But what REALLY got me was the teacher. He was attempting to teach a class from a video, which my daughter learned from the actual choreographer at Nationals at another convention. He started and stopped a good 20 times and then at the end of class he decided to choreograph something different... in which he enlisted his students to help him with the music. This lasted about 5 minutes. At this point, I knocked on the glass and motioned for my kid to leave. This is the worse studio we've ever visited and my daughter has ever attended. They can have the rest of my four classes...I would never recommend this place to anyone...EVER. read more

I love this place! I have twins that go here and they love it! Mrs.Franchesca is amazing and such a friendly person. My girls love her and ballet! My girls had never been in any type of dance before and they were nervous and had a little trouble paying attention. Mrs.Franchesca was so patient and friendly with them that it took all of 2 classes for them to be comfortable and now they are thriving!! I would highly recommend this place!! read more

My daughter has been a student at San Diego Dance Academy for the past two years and I cannot believe how much she has learned from the first day she started. The instructors are amazing, knowledgeable, patient, and they make dance enjoyable for all of the children. The rates are also extremely affordable for what you get in return.
