It was a blast!…read more The were celebrities everywhere, from the Mayor of Carson City, to Miss Carson City with her crown and sash, to an awesome signer and violinist. There was an ice sculpture. There were fancy hors d'oeuvres and desserts. There was beer, wine, and water. The head honcho from Prestige Care, which has locations throughout the western US, came here all the way from Washington, I believe it was.. The were so many people I had trouble maneuvering to the front to see the speakers and even get water. The center went all the way to impress people. This event had been advertised for months in the Nevada Appeal. And it was packed. Good thing I came early, as I got the tour, which was quite extensive, out of the way, just in time for the ribbon cutting and speeches. I was exhausted at the end from so much walking. I guess I would compare this to a Yelp Elite event, except I have never been to one since I am (still) not a member of the Yelp Elite Squad. Boo hoo I guess. :-( The unit is a combination of skilled nursing facility (temporary rehabilitation with the goal to go home) with 80 beds (Medicare and Medicaid do cover that), and memory care assisted living with 54 beds (Medicare and Medicaid do not cover that). The memory care unit is a locked unit, with codes required to access the stairs, exits, or elevators. They take Medicare right now, but have not yet been approved for Nevada Medicaid. Approval is anticipated in a few months. The rooms are either semi-private, with an actual wall separating the two beds in a very large room, "jack-and-jill" rooms, with two rooms connected by a shared bathroom, or private. Some residents rent both jack-and-jill rooms, and use one as a sitting room. Most of the unit is not occupied, but all or almost all private rooms in the memory care assisted living part have been reserved. People come from as far away as Reno to live here, since the facility and staff are top notch. The units features wifi (which does not work yet according to the receptionist, so she would not give me the password--kind of snippy to me); cable TV; a hair salon; music therapy with bluetooth wireless headphones for each resident; a large monitor which is controlled by a tablet which can play videos, music, therapy games, etc.; a cornhole game; lounges, checkers; and a multitude of daily activities. There is a gym for supervised rehabilitation. There are also multiple kitchen and laundry units, but I am not sure if the patients use them or the staff does. All restrooms are gender-neutral. There is also a rooftop covered balcony area with a movable tile floor on wheels, so the individual tiles can expand in the summer without breaking. There are private dining areas should the family wish to dine with the resident. I was a little bothered by the fact there was no regular gym, chapel, library, or computer room. And the rooms did not feature an area for laptops like hotel rooms do. I know, many of the residents are older, but many are computer literate and will not be happy when this amenity is not available, especially in the future as Baby Boomers get older. The exits required a password to access in the memory care unit, which is a fire hazard. Another aspect which I was not thrilled about was the staff appeared mostly white. Not much diversity, but hey, this is northern Nevada. Parking was ample. There are actually two entrances: one on Washington Street by LabCorp, and one on Mountain Street. Last time I went, I did not know of the main entrance off Washington, so I went to the side entrance near Mountain, where no one was, lol. They make everyone exit onto Mountain though, which I don't know why, as there appears to be enough room to exit onto Washington Street. They staff, other than the receptionist at the end, appeared professional and knowledgeable. They have two doctors, which seems like too few for 134 beds.

Do NOT send your family here. If I could give negative stars, I would. They neglect their patients…read more They do not ask who you are when visiting. They just want a room number and they'll let you in. They had ONE nurse assigned to an entire area. She went on lunch when my grandma nearly choked to death and the other staff simply said "I'm not qualified to help with that". She was bed ridden and could not move at all. They refused to clean her when she went to the bathroom and ignored her when she wrote help on paper over and over again. She was old but mentally clear and they constantly assumed she was senile, talking down to her like a child. Another patient down the hall was crying and screaming for help and no one came for almost 30 mins, even after we tried to chase down the nurse. The staff is rude and claims that they can't help with things even though it's literally their job. We ended up having to call an ambulance to take her to the hospital just to get her out of this place. Hospital found out that she got pneumonia from their neglect. She passed away a few days later. I regret sending her here.

My own mother spent the last six years of her life here and I could not think of a finer facility for her to have lived in. The level of care given was outstanding, the food freshly prepared and delicious and the staff rose to "Above and Beyond" level. During the closure of the facility during COVID, the lead nurse on my Moms wing made sure to call myself and my brothers via FaceTime at least weekly so we could visit with my mother. Five Stars re not enough to express our appreciation.

For rehab but only got torture…read more Apparently, they were full on the rehab side so they put me in a room with a woman who plays her TV full volume to make sure she doesn't have room mates. After 5 hours I told them I could not take it anymore. They tried to tell me the lady had rights but I just got ready to go. They said they'd fix it which they could have already done. During my high volume hours I asked for a portable oxy concentrator that reached the bathroom. Was told no, I'd have to go without oxygen. NO. After they argue (which they offer well before help). they finally had Mike fix it. Mike being the one and only sane employee there. Then came dinner and I received slop. I immediately asked for real food. One of the ladies who only argues told me my diet was blended food. I tried to reason, I had not eaten since 7am and it was late. Finally, Mike brought me a delicious plate of fish dinner. Then they tell me they found me a room. I was finally moved out if the asylum into a big private room. The problem there was no one would stay out of my room and I was woken up ALL night long. In the morning the didn't bring all my meds. Of course, when I finally got the nurse to come back, she argued and brought a CNA to argue with her. BTW, I never raised my voice and I don't over explain anything to adults. I told them to look in my property fir the meds or I'd have to call the police. At this point, I was visibly having difficulty breathing. Thet said no. I told them I was forced to call the police and an ambulance because they were putting my life in danger. No sleep, employees who do anything hostile but help (except Mike and one lively lady who came in my room late to help me close the windows. Refusal to administer necessary medication, refusal to return my property without them tagteaming me. Called a cab and left to save my own life. To date, the have billed me 191.plus to be tortured and have my civil rights taken. Please don't bring mom here!!!!!!!​

OK .. no one looks forward to physical therapy where they try to make you move parts of your body…read moreuntil it hurts. Want you to do exercise that you couldn't even do before the need for PT came up in the first place. Not so, my therapist, Laura, said "if it hurts, stop, don't do it." We will find a way to build up your muscles so you can eventual do them. She was patient and cared about "me." She was anxious to make sure I left better than when I came in. She gave me exercises to do at home... and yes, I did do them, that helped me move better. Alas, my issue needs more than just therapy... headed for an MRI on my left knee. All the therapy and even a cortisone shot did not totally alleviate my knee pain. If Orthopedic doc recommends continue PT, I will definitely come back here to Laura. Perhaps if Medicare allowed me to go directly to an Orthopedic doc instead of trying primary care first, I'd have a accurate diagnosis and closer to total "mend."

Never thought I'd be writing a review for an Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility. Never thought I'd…read morecrash my motorcycle on black ice and shatter my femur either but here I am. Will be discharged today after a 7 day stay. As a RN for decades, the quality of care and expertise here is 5 star. The CNAs were all wonderful. Joema, Rita and Terry stood out as did Leo. Joma is the kindest, most compassionate and funny CNA I've ever encountered. Her patience and concern for all the patients is laudatory. Amazing woman she is. My Physical Therapist Jordan and my Occupational Therapist Bethany are incredibly skilled and compassionate. They pushed me through the pain with tenderness. I can't say enough how talented the entire therapy team is. The RNs were also great with one exception. Tiffany got me through some tough days and Cyrene were compassionate caregivers I was fortunate enough to have. Dr. Williams and Dr. Su were skilled and attentive. They both have exceptional knowledge and bedside manners. Dietary must receive a shout out for good food, menu planning and Nadine and Serena who delivered my chicken broth and saltines were a pleasure and a bright spot. Only negative was a male night shift RN that made me feel like a burden, that my needs didn't matter and I should understand how busy he is. He should not work here. I've hired and trained dozens of RNs and this wasn't just a bad night - he lacks care and empathy and goes through the motions. Renown Rehabilitation Hospital is where you want to be when you need inpatient rehab. I'm forever grateful. Amazing group of skilled professionals with a handful of angels sprinkled in. Thank you so very much for getting me back on my feet. You guys have been amazing.
