* A Serious Warning About Relief Mental Health in Warren, NJ…read more * Deeply concerning care and judgment * Lack of accountability after a serious incident * Poor leadership, oversight, and communication * A disturbing lack of compassion and empathy I filed a formal complaint against Dr. Racquel San Juan and Brook Evans with the New Jersey Professional and Occupational Board because of what my family experienced. The information they provided to the New Jersey Medical Board did not accurately reflect what happened. Brook Evans also stated that Dr. San Juan had handled other patients in a similar manner. Families deserve to know about this before trusting this facility with a vulnerable loved one. My daughter was a patient at Relief Mental Health in Warren, NJ, during 2023 and 2024. She was treated there for approximately six months while experiencing escalating health issues related to medical conditions that had not yet been diagnosed. On Friday, January 12, 2024, she went to an appointment at Relief Mental Health to meet with Dr. Racquel San Juan and Brook Evans. At the time, she was in a wheelchair, unable to walk, in pain, and catatonic. Based on what my family experienced, she was kept in a room and told by Dr. San Juan and Brook Evans that there was nothing wrong with her. They also told my wife that we were drugging her. In addition, they threatened to call the police on her if she did not say that she was being abused. Adult Social Services was contacted based on a false claim of abuse. Inaccurate information was provided regarding the medical records for January 12, 2024, including the statement to the Medical Board that she had simply left the appointment. I filed a complaint with the New Jersey Medical Board because I have serious concerns about the conduct of Dr. Racquel San Juan and Brook Evans and believe their ability to practice in New Jersey should be carefully reviewed. In my opinion, no family should have to experience this kind of treatment when seeking care for a loved one in crisis.

I had been a patient at WCS for many years, in a group and individual settings. Often I even had…read moremultiple sessions per week. When my insurance carrier changed I learned that WCS did not accept them and was not willing to bring them on. Out-of-network insurance coverage would be very expensive because I would be paying the prohibitively high "cash" rate until my out-of-network deductible would be met. (Also very high.) I appealed to the owner to pay the same rate as I was with my previous insurance, which was more affordable. (I've done this before with other professionals and they had no issue.) However, the owner declined to accept my offer stating that she had to look after the welfare of the business. WCS has a financial appeal I could submit, but it is based on the Affordable Care Act. In otherwords, since I can afford therapy from WCS with my insurance only, I am denied any financial assistance from Afforable Care Act. Very disappointing.
