I was told to be 15 min early for appointment. The place was closed and opened the doors at our apartment time. Then they tell me they forgot to send me a form that had a whole different price if you were getting a contact lenses prescription. So not only are you getting an eye exam with a prescription you have to pay a whole different price on contacts prescription. Needless to say conveniently they forget to send you a form that goes all the way to $2000 in order to get contacts. Pretty pricey so I canceled my appointment. Definitely will go see my other Doctor. read more

I had cataract surgery on both of my eyes and it is like turning back time. I can see now as well as I did 50 years ago. Dr. Parker and the staff at NB Vision Center were friendly, caring, informative...running out of superlatives here. If you, or a loved one is considering cataract surgery, I cannot recommend Dr. Parker highly enough. He truly cares about his patients, plus he is a New Braunfels native! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! Really disappointed in this place. I went initially for a major eye issue, then was talked into getting an overpriced multi focal eye exam to re-evaluate my contact lense choice. I don't have a problem with the optometrist, my problem that I have is that no one has ever contacted me for the extra trials or to check to see if these were even working for me. I was a patient/client at America's Best and had way better service there. I will not be coming back here and wasted $265 for an multifocal eye exam that was $265 out of insurance pricing with no contact lenses RX. Yeah I could have made a phone call to see why no one ever checked on me or called me to let me know more trials were in but why should I have to call and remind someone they forgot about me when I'm the patient. Obviously I fell through a crack and no one really cares. Very disappointed in the level of customer service and the contacts were not working anyway but no one ever called to follow up. Mind you this was my appointment was 4-7-2025 and now it's a month later 5-7-2025 and crickets. read more

I've been going here for 13+ years . I called for an appointment for my severe dry eye issue, I basically cannot see, they told me they can't see me until August!! I can't see well and my vision has changed drastically and they won't see me! My husband is a Veterinarian and we see emergency patients on the same day! How can a Dr. not take into consideration that I can't see, seriously? Obviously they do not consider their patients concerns or my well being!! Terrible patient care! This place is a train wreck. I was over charged by 250.00 for an office visit. Despite having all the proper documentation , it took 6 weeks to get it corrected. On another occasion I returned their call regarding a referral. They advised they had no record of the referral despite having called me 2 minutes prior. I can't honestly make and opinion on the doctors as it's such a pain to get in to see them. It just appears they want to keep running up those office visit fees. read more

I am giving this place a2 star as I don't believe in 5s or 1s. I visited for an eye exam and was stuck in a room that was dirty and do not up to par. What seemed like an hour (probably 45 minutes but with nothing on the room it was forever) later the Doctor shows up in the room saying, sorry I was not told you were here. If that was not bad enough, I tried to schedule for my husband but they needed a referral from the insurance. I called the insurance but they assured me that I didn't need one. Now the games of yes you do no you don't started. It turns out NBVC wants it so if you need something else you are ready. This sounds like they already know you are going to need something (wink, wink) . Bottom line is they said they were going to get the approval but never did, the appointment that fit my husband's limited schedule was given away and no one in the office would take any ownership of thier mixup. Whatever happened to doing what you say you will do and taking care of the patient. Instead my husband in scheduled with Dr Albright same time, the scheduling to 5 mins not 2 days. read more

Absolutely horrible. Never received the right samples and had to pay for more when THEY didn't put the order in. Spent $800 with no contacts! That seems a bit off right? The financial lady doesn't think so and she couldn't answer what that amount was for/coveted. This place is a sham and over charge. The office looks beautiful for the outside but total chaos and mismanagement and billing inside. This office will not take responsibility for anything. this whole debacle started in May and it's now Sept 1st and did I mention no contacts. Also if you expect a phone call back forget it. Plan on needing to drive in every time you need answers, which you still won't get, or the phone call back. STAY FAR AWAY! read more

DO NOT GO HERE! I paid out of pocket for a procedure and when I received a bill I contacted my insurance company. Aetna got on a three-way conference call with myself and a rep from this business and confirmed I owed nothing. Then New Braunfels Vision Center sent me to collections. So now I have to deal with a collection agency for a bill I do not owe and the people at this awful place will not help me. I have asked them repeatedly to take it up with my insurance company (again since we already did this) and they refuse and told me to deal with the collections agency. Additionally, the procedure I got for dry eyes didn't even work. So not only am I out $500, I now have a ding on my credit and have to deal with harassment from a debt collector for a bill my insurance agreed I don't owe. read more

I am incredibly impressed with the entire staff at NB Vision Center. I recently received lasik surgery from Dr. Levar and I see better than I ever have with contacts or glasses. I have tried to give NB Vision another chance and once a gain they have run me off with their rude front office. I really like the optometrist, Dr. Thompkins. We have seen Dr. Smith for over 14 years, since before the new Vision Center was established. He has always been caring, professional and helpful. His special knowledge of lupus related eye problems has been invaluable to me! I had an excellent outcome when he performed my cataract surgery and my husband's surgery was done by Dr. Levar with excellent results as well. I have always found the staff to be helpful and caring. Even though we recently moved to a retirement community in San Antonio, we gladly drive to New Braunfels for our eye care and do not hesitate to recommend them to those we meet who are seeking quality eye care! read more

Disappointed that this business has so many rules instead of good customer service that it turned me off to becoming a new patient. 1) you have to sign and agree that you will be charged for refraction and a whole bunch of other things 2) it took 3 days for them to call for my initial exam after I filled out the online paperwork 3) apparently there are no appointments available after 2 pm on any day and Saturday was already fully booked 4) after I agreed to an appointment date, then she informed me that I must have a credit card on file in case I don't show up for my appointment This was just too much. I didn't even get in the door, so who knows what other great customer service I would have received. read more

I cannot say enough about the amazing staff at NB Vision Center!! Starting with Barbara at the front desk whom always manages to answer all our questions and take care of any concerns promptly and efficiently with a smiling face. Dr. Tompkins has treated my daughter whom has extremely difficult prescriptions and myself for years. She takes her time and treats us like family. Even checks back to make sure things are good with the prescriptions herself. We are lucky to have found them! read more

Had new lenses put in each eye--left eye went great--2 weeks later Lavar ruined my right eye--cut into it -was the worst pain i ever felt in my 69 years--N B vision center then sent me to Dr. Bauman to correct his mistake that he claims he never did and after the surgery in San Antonio This Super Dr. tells me he done me no good--They lie and mislead people so very badly--Reminds me of a Old John Wayne Quote--"maybe you should find another line of work--This one sure don't fit your Pistol"--Sincerely Bubba Kluth read more

If you are a new patient, plan to spend $400 to $500, just for the exam. Then, there will be other tests "suggested," to you. That will be another $100 to $150. Very pricey!! If you have insurance, they charge significantly more, for their exams. Might be better to say that you don't have insurance. read more

If I knew then , what I know now. After getting my glasses , I was back 3 days later unable to walk across a room. The smiling faces that took my money seemed very bothered by my concerns. The clerk suggested that the prescription must've been wrong followed by ,"Where did you get it anyway?" (in a rather disgusted tone). She stopped after I told her I had gotten it there. Another pair was ordered and the results were no better. I gave up trying and asked for my money back. The clerk smiled and shook her head stating , " We don't give refunds." I left without the $150.00 I paid out and without the glasses. I later learned my insurance was billed over $400.00 for the exam alone. read more

I am fed up with the treatment I received from this office. I have been trying to get a charge for not showing for an appointment taken off my credit report for over a year. I missed the appointment due to a flat tire. I called in and told them this and they charged me anyway because it was not 24 hours in advance. I don't know about you, but I didn't know 24 hours in advance that I was going to get a flat tire, or I would have planed my day around it instead of sitting out in the hot sun waiting for a tow truck. My entire family WAS going to this Dr. but they won't be any more. I refuse to pay this $50.00 on principal. I hope someone there reads there reviews, because anytime I ask to speak to anyone above whoever answers the phone I get put on hold and hung up on. I have never written a review before but at this point this is insane. If I could give them zero stars I would. read more

Dr.Graham and Dr.Thompson are truly amazing ! The first day I met them I knew I would be ok there ! I like how they explain everything and always return phone calls ! Dr.Thompson is very sweet and caring ! She made me feel comfortable and safe at my appointments ! Getting drops put in my eyes was never my favorite thing but finding out that she had the reversal drops made it easier ! I went to this place because my daughter needed a new opthamologist closer to her school than to our home. This is a network provider and we specifically wanted to see an MD because we have coverage under our health insurance for an annual visit. We saw Dr. Levar, who was extremely nice and did a thorough exam. However, when we went to check out, the lady at the desk said that my medical payment card had "insufficient funds", which I knew to be inaccurate because it's an expense account we have barely used this year and because it's worked at every doctor's office this year (and every other year) without incident. When I called my husband, who spoke to our provider, he wanted me to ask if they were billing as a medical provider or as a vision center, as we have separate vision insurance which covers visits to an optometrist. The bottom line is that the office may have billed as a vision exam (optometrist) rather than as a medical exam, which caused my insurance to reject the charges. Trying to reason or explain this to the lady checking me out was next to near impossible as she insisted that she was just running the medical payment card as a Visa, which was a moot point and irrelevant to the problem. There was no trying to help me figure out how to fix the issue and no cognizance that this was possibly their error and not mine. My last visit to my own opthamologist (in September) resulted in my leaving the office after my exam without having to use my card or getting a bill in the mail. I had to pay $170 out of my own pocket when I have health insurance! That's never happened. Ever. Although the staff was nice, it took us a long time to see the doctor and we were out of there after nearly an hour and a half. The hassle of the whole experience was enough to make us not return. read more

I purchased new glasses from this store about 6 months ago. One of the hinges for the earpiece had become bent. I went into the store to see if the hinge could be replaced. When I walked in there were no other customers and four employees. I was ignored for 5 minutes. When someone finally helped me, they looked at my glasses and said that they were not bent, but they are. The person then said something must have hit them. I asked about the warranty on the frames. Myron took my phone number and said he would check and call me. A week later and no call from them. Bad customer service! No attempt to help me. Updated review. The store called 3 weeks after I was in and informed me that the warranty would not cover the hinges on the frame. They did offer to replace the lenses if they were scratched. read more

I really like Dr. Tompkins, however I won't be returning. For the first time in over 20 years of wearing glasses I got a bad prescription. I returned to get it corrected but they have a very limited window that you can come in to have a prescription re-done (one day a week for just a couple of hours). Their attitude from the beginning was that the glasses must have been made wrong and I had to first have their opticians look at my glasses before they would even consider reviewing my prescription. Even after reviewing and adjusting the prescription, the prescription was still wrong after the glasses were redone. They charged my insurance company an exorbitant amount of money compared to other providers I have visited for the same tests and type of exam. This is part of why insurance is so high these days! Their payment/insurance policy also results in being overcharged and having to wait for a refund. The kicker was that I was told that even though it has now been proven that my insurance covers as I said it would that each time I came I would have to pay more and wait to be reimbursed. I'm sorry, after paying the high cost of insurance I can't afford to pay more than I have to up front and wait for reimbursement. I'll be finding a provider that honors my insurance from the get-go and does not overcharge the insurance company. read more
