Not enough time with doctor and my prescription was incorrect. Ended up moving to another practice.

My first stop here was a visit with Dr KELLEN RUCCOBONO. She was extremely professional and competent. Before seeing her, there are a few stages where eye techs perform various tests. I felt that the testing was thorough and the techs were knowledgeable and friendly. This will be my eye exam office to return to annually. Unlike other eye exam offices, this one didn't attempt to up-same me for more tests that aren't covered by insurance. read more

I recently moved to Kyle and had to find a new eye doctor and I am so happy that my nephew referred me to Dr. Riccobono at Central Texas Eye Center. I made my appointment for a Saturday which was amazing for me since I didn't have to take off work. The office is nice and very clean, plenty of seating room in the lobby. I only had to wait about 5-10 minutes and was brought back by one of the techs who did a great job with my intake and initial tests. Then Dr. Riccobono saw me for my vision test and she was fantastic! Super friendly, great conversation and very knowledgeable. You don't feel like just another patient being rushed through an exam. She was super helpful with my contact order and with helping me figure out why glasses always give me headaches. I will definitely be going back to her from here on out! read more

My mother comes her. I accompany her to every visit. It takes about 1and 1/2 to 2 hours to get out of here. The lobby is big and always room to sit.when you are brought back each test has its own ststioneach area is like a station. You go to a room to check your vision, you go to another room to do the peripheral vision test , then your brought back to the small waiting room again, waiting to see the doctor. Dr Welch has always been respectful and she has seen him for years.The place is freezing cold. Bring a jacket. read more

I had cataract surgery in San Marcos roughly 2 years ago. The outcome was horrific. My vision is not as crisp as it was before the surgery. I have halos from car headlights etc. I can no longer read small print as I was able to do before the surgery. read more

I am very disappointed with the two pair of glasses I purchased at this optical store. I paid more than twice the usual price of any glasses I have purchased in the past. I accepted that it would cost more. What I do not accept is that it took 4 1/2 months to get my glasses and after three sets of lenses I still cannot see when I put wear them. The sunglasses are especially blurred. When I asked for a refund they offered to return only a fraction of the original cost. I do not recommend this company to anyone. They do not guarantee their work and produce an inferior product. Go somewhere else. You will be happier. Kathy McNeil read more

Terrible people working the phones. Rude, not knowledgeable about the products the carry, and just plain don't care. I tried to make an appointment and was treated terribly. I just had some basic questions and was met with hostility at every step. The woman I spoke with had zero interest in being helpful. I won't be using them. Nor will my family. I was an idiot went I came in for the first time (personal stuff). Both the staff and Dr. Pickett handled it with candor and finesse. Those two qualities don't often go together. Their optical also has a great selection of eyeglass frames. A bit pricey, but then you have the convenience of the shop being in the same building. read more

The positive--very friendly staff from start to finish. Both medical providers were knowledgeable and friendly (to the extent we actually saw them--see below) The negative--many, listed below: 1) when I made the appointments I asked for Dr Hu because he was recommended and our VSP Insurance said he was a provider (why we chose that insurance.) 2) I was informed he didn't take the insurance, the optometrist was the only one who did (she was great, but false advertising much?) 3) Receptionist recommended I use VSP and see her, while my husband could use Medicare and see Dr. Hu. 4) Arrive and are told they always provide refraction, $42 Medicare won't cover. Never had we seen such a thing 5) While we got "in" right away, it took both of us over an hour to see the actual medical professional. 6) ALL the eye exam (for vision) care was provided by assistants for both of us. 7) 1.25 hours later, we both are finally finished, having spent less than 10 minutes each with the medical providers. 8) I paid $15 copay for VSP while my husband's bill was $189 for Medicare because "deductible" Something we were never informed of. In short, the practice seems geared toward elderly patients. It appears to be a money mill where the providers spend very little time with patients, relying instead on trained assistants to do the actual work. They pushed us toward Medicare for my husband, apparently because that's how the Dr's get to bill big dollars. We will never go back and I urge you to reconsider. Especially if you have a vision plan. read more

I am writing this review because I feel like its my job as a marketing major. I am a student at Texas State University and had to stop by the Central Texas Eye Center for a project. I am also in the market for a local eye doctor so stopping by was killing two birds with one stone (I thought). When I went to the desk to ask for help I was noticed and then 3 minutes later finally acknowledged. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I was then told that they didn't have time to answer a couple questions, "not even 2 minutes!" If you are a company in the San Marcos area, I feel like you should be more than willing to take 2 minutes to help a student with a project. When I was pricing exams I called another clinic in town and they were over $100 less expensive for a glasses and contacts exam. NONCOMPETITIVE PRICES! I will not be using the Central Texas Eye Center for my eye exam, nor will I be referring anybody there. I have already had the chance to spread the word. Word of mouth is the best/worst form of advertising and I will do my best to advise others about this company. read more

Really rude people in the front desk. No customer service skills. I used to go to this place every year and it just got worse so I stopped making appointments with them. The opt tech did my eye exam all wrong so the Rx had my eye sphere numbers reversed. I questioned it, but he didn't care. I should have asked the doctor about it because he was very good (this review is not about the opthamalogist and his exam was about my eye health but eye exams for eye glasses are run by the techs). Luckily I didn't need new glasses at that time so there was no need for the Rx. I am a patient in another clinic now. I hope CTEC has improved their services. When I needed a piece of metal removed from my eye, not only did Central Texas Eye Center fit me into their very busy Friday schedule almost immediately but Dr. Cole had me back in on Saturday for a follow up. A very professional and courteous operation. You can always tell what kind of clinic you are in by observing the staff and this was a very happy staff that was courteous and prompt. While I was in there on Saturday they were holding staff training which only goes to show that this place doesn't rest on it's laurels. Thank you Dr. Cole and Central Texas Eye center for a great experience. I can't speak to the negative reviews that I saw for this place but I'm pretty hard to please and Central Texas Eye Center in San Marcos hit on all eight cylinders! read more

I have been coming here since I moved to Wimberley in 1991. I now live in New Braunfels, and continue to come here for all my optical needs. Dr. Pickett examines my eyes once a year. Dr. Joshua Hu has done two cataract surgeries on me. The staff is very friendly. I actually look forward to going! I wouldnt go anywhere else! read more

The staff was warm and friendly and the Dr was great. During my contact fitting we tried on multiple lenses and styles to find the one perfect for me. The front desk staff were very friendly and efficient in checking in my wife and I for our appointment. The ophthalmic technicians were very skilled and thorough in their examination. I have been using Central Texas Eye Center for about 15 years and have always found the doctors and their assistants to be professional and efficient. If I were rating this aspect, I would not hesitate to rate them five stars. However, trying to set up appointments for visits and surgery is a different matter. Their automated phone service is the absolute worse of any business I've yet encountered. Also, one has a better chance of receiving a return call from the President than this pathetic group of office workers! Sorry, I know that I'm ranting and hope others have had better experiences. I have visited many eye clinics and I found the staff at CTEC professional, friendly and fast. The fees for an eye exam were a reasonable ~ $ 45. The support staff kept reminding of the appointment, the check-in/out paperwork was quick, the clinic was clean and well-equipped. Finally, the medical staff Dr. Joshua Hu was very proficient and offered excellent feedback. I'll definitely visit this place again. read more

I've ordered my contacts through them twice. Each time I've been asked for payment even though I've already payed. I have to ask them to go back and look again. Then I get a call saying I actually didn't pay for my contacts that I had already taken home and if I can go look up my credit card records for proof. She never once apologized for the mistakes they've made TWICE now. I find it very unprofessional and more work for me when it should be very simple. The Optical shop has done some renovation and boy does it look great! Lots of new style of frames to choose from! Awful service, condescending and rude staff, broken equipment. Avoid at all costs! Had an eye exam at their Kyle, TX office and was talked down to several times. I was left to sit in a room by myself several times while I could hear the staff chatting away rudely about patients in another room. Two of the machines they normally use were broken resulting in a strange test on some old machine they had. They also don't offer digital eye imaging. It was like going to the eye doctor back in the 1980's. Oh and if you don't want your eyes dilated, because you need to see, you know, to DRIVE HOME. You'll catch serious flak from the doctor. Customer service was disappointing all around, and I won't be going back. And now I'm waiting for their messaging service to call me back so I can order my contacts. Waiting.... and waiting.... I'm starting to doubt that call will ever come. read more

Dr. Tomeff and Monique provided a great service, however the front office staff completely ruined the entire experience. They ran our insurance but did not look in to all of the cost options we had available to use with our plans. When it came time to check out they presented us with the most expensive option and told us that is our only option. We knew better because we called our insurance companies beforehand. When we tried to inform the staff of our other options, Becky in their billing department responded with "Everyone pays a $60.00 copay...". Needless to say, they had to get on the phone with our insurance company to verify what we were telling them was correct, and Becky and Hannah made it obvious that we were inconveniencing them with this. It is apparent that this organization is not trained to look in to the best interest of the patient so I would highly advise you to call your insurance and know your options before coming here because they will try to tell you what you have available and it will be wrong. Furthermore, when bringing issues up to Marla Henegar, the manager, she tells you she will look in to the issue but never call you back in a timely manner to provide a resolution. I had to reach out to her every time as well as go into the office to speak with her. In the end, you will spend too much time wasted trying to get her to correct the situation in a way that justifies your poor experience. Rating this 1 star because you have to choose at least 1, but again, the only good part of this experience was Dr. Tomeff and her assistant, Monique. read more

I am a senior citizen that wears progressive lens glasses. Three optical companies in Colorado Springs could not make the lenses the past few years that did not have double vision. I saw this facility as I drove past. I'm a new resident of San Marcos, stopped in and liked what I saw. Made an appointment, was very impressed with the examiner, Dr. Johnathon Welch, M.D., & James Zurovec, Optician. Phoned me when the new glasses were ready, put them on. Perfect !!! I would recommend anyone to visit here. Everyone at the desk all the way through were courteous. Been wearing them one week-very happy with them. Prices were not outrageous either. read more

I like the optomotrist, but the optical shop personnel are very rude. There is a girl there that does NOT do well with customers. She is very rude and blames their mistakes on you. I would not recommend them for any service or orders. I used to pick up my contacts at the billing counter & never had an issue. The San Marcos location is a rip-off. The only reason I considered going to this place was because several of the MDs were at the practice I used to go to when I lived in Austin. When I called to ask if these docs used to practice in Austin, the front desk staff didn't even know. In fact, these docs are still affiliated with the Austin office (not affiliated with the San Marcos office - thank goodness!). This should have been a sign what was to come. When I arrived for my appt, the technician did most of the measuring. She was not the most skilled either. She had to put several drops in my eyes before any actually fell in my eyes. She covered my left eye when she wanted to measure my left eye - duh, how am I suppose to see when it is covered! Then my doc came and he hardly even reviewed the measurements. I am afraid to waste money on buying glasses when the measurements are not correct. Then they MADE me go see the optometrist for a contact lense fitting. I've been wearing contact lens for years. I don't need instructions on how to clean my contacts. Her instructions didn't even last 5 minutes and then later I was billed $60 for my contact lens prescription b/c the optometrist is not convered by my insurance. This was never explained to me when I made the appointment or during the appointment. In the last 20 years, I have never had to see both an optomistrist and an opthalmologist - what a waste of time and money. An opthalmologist can write prescriptions for both eye glasses and prescriptions...gezzz, they are an MD and can even perform surgery so they should be able to do both glasses and contacts! I was billed a total of over $200 for the exam. Half of that was out of pocket b/c however they submitted the insurance did not have the correct coding so now I have to pay for it. I have never had to pay that much out of pocket. I also had to wait in-btw seeing each person - was there for over 2 hours. I am severely near-sighted and would prefer to see an opthalmologist rather than an optometrist but geez, for that price, I should have just seen the optometrist next to Walmart and get everything done in one shot. I am definitely going back to my doc in Austin - totally worth the driving time and to receive high quality care. Just wanted to warn everyone! read more
