I'd been going here for over 25 years! It used to be OK given all the other larger Asian buffest in the cities, but it has slipped a lot. Today I went there, found myself for the first time to be the only person in there. The food the owners are serving is very cheap, almost waste products now. Chicken Entrees like Black Pepper Chicken, Jalepeno Chicken, etc, has no chicken. Its parts of chicken fat, and chicken Skin fried and coated in the sauce. Gross! The chicken on a skewer...All dark meat! Everything in this place is dark meat for low costs. The menu has not changed in over 25 years, and the staff has little to say, never any added conversation, just "How Many" upon entering, and zero thank you or good bye. An older woman in the back who stares at her cell phone brings you the bill, says nothing and walks away. Not very friendly. Ive always tipped a 5 dollar bill upon leaving...but the price went up 5 dollars "20.00" for food that really just isn't very quality or good anymore. My time there has ended. I left feeling grossed out, from the old very filthy bathroom to the poor selection to the cheap low cost foods they serve topped off with service that makes you feel like your no one, I wont ever be going back. The only thing good is that the food is usually warm. No special sauces are available, no pickled ginger, no wasabi not frills. Just come eat, and then go away! Thus was my 3rd time having lunch here. My first two visits I rated this place 3 Stars. Food was OK at best. Service about the same. But lunch today was my last visit. First, the food actually went down in quality, not a very easy thing to do. Everything seemed to be sitting in grease/oil. Nothing had much if any flavor. But, the location was convenient when it was in Forest Lake. And that was the only reason I had returned the second time. Today's death bell was the price. It had been $7.99. For what you got, it was acceptable. When I saw the check, I thought they had changed me for a drink when I had water. $10.99 had to be a mistake. I truly wished I had gone to Wendy's or McD's. Not too shabby. Very happy to find this place after the other place we called was permeating with attitude upon answering their phone. Despite being called China Buffett, this place has some excellent take out and some excellent food. Apparently my parents order from here a fair amount and are recognized by their order. They decided to treat us for dinner and our niece was over and LOVES fried rice. Ordered: -Roast Pork Fried Rice- not too greasy and just the right amount of meat. -Pork Egg Foo Young - Alright, gravy was not the greatest. I don't care for yellowish gravy- comes w/ white rice. -Orange Chicken- surprisingly good -Sesame Chicken combo w. fried rice and egg roll- for a combo meal the portion was huge and very reasonable. $6.45 for a huge portion. -Seafood Combination- not a huge fan of this one. Broccoli was good however. Very crunchy and steamed the way I like it. House Specials are served family siza and are huge. They come with white rice and in the nice to go plastic containers. Since my parents seem to be regulars, they threw in some complimentary dessert, being the super fried chinese donuts with sugar. Calorically just wrong, but one bite never hurts. We have gone to China Buffet for well over a decade to celebrate New Year's Day, Chinese New Year, and adoption days. When our daughters were younger, the buffet had a variety of things they would enjoy sampling. We knew that there would always be something for our younger daughter who has specific Chinese food she likes. This year, for some reason, we all found items to eat, but nothing stood out as spectacular. Perhaps it was because we had been to a couple new Chinese, Japanese, and Tibetan restaurants in the past couple of months. These restaurants set the bar significantly higher as we tasted what excellently-prepared, creative Asian food can taste like. The jalapeno chicken and sesame chicken (minus the sesame seeds for some reason) tasted good, with the former being a new dish we hadn't yet tried. Some of the food was lukewarm which was disappointing. This could have been because we were eating in the mid-afternoon. However, making food in smaller batches would have easily solved this issue. So, although this restaurant is relatively close to home and has a lot of good memories for us, it was disappointing for us with this visit. I'm not sure if we will be returning later this month for Chinese New Year. We may go back to one of the other restaurants we were happier with or even try a new one. read more

This is the best Chinese in town. The lo mein, Mai fun, and sezchuan wantons are my favorite. The wontons aren't fried, they're tender and covered in a sweet and spicy sauce. And I just genuinely love it here. It's family run and I've been going here since I was a kid. You get a ton of food for the price which is very affordable and I highly recommend trying their takeout. read more

Apparently, the buffet prices fluctuate without reason and/or explanation. The advertised price vs what they actually charge ended up being a $5 difference PER PERSON. Be ready for the ol' bait and switch. read more

Not sure what happened to this place but it was the worst food I've ever had at a buffet. I very seldom give just one star but this was REALLY bad. Use to go here about once a month when I lived in the area but moved to the cities and had not been here in a few years. STAY AWAY!!! read more

they're food is very hard, stale, or dry. the food can be as hard as a brick. there workers are very nice though. they don't have many options of food and it's very small. it's not very noisy and people say it's kid friendly, but there's not many things pointing and saying it is. I have braces, and the garlic bread and the brownies almost broke my brackets. the rice krispiee were stale. I do like the take out, but there more bad than good. read more

Brought my kids here for Valentines Day dinner. This was my first visit. Honestly the food was horrible. The shrimp in the shrimp and lobster sauce which is one if my favorites was breaded to death obviously trying to make it filling. The noodles had weird spices. Best place in town for Chinese... You can get a pre planned meal off the menu, get a to go container and make your own meal or you can eat the buffet which is really good lots to choose from, pretty busy most of the time so the food is always fresh on the buffet. Waiters are always on point with refilling your drinks and if you would like to switch your drink just ask and they will be happy to accommodate you. They also have some good desert options they brownies are really good. read more

There is simply no Better Chinese takeout anywhere near Forest Lake. I personally have never eaten at the buffet, but friends love it. We get take out a couple times a month the orders are always perfect and fresh. Highly recommended for takeout, you will not be disappointed! read more

It may not be the fanciest place, but the food is good. I prefer to order off menu rather than have the buffet. They use the correct noodles for Lo Mein and Chow fun. Their pot stickers are on point. The owners are always very friendly. read more

I've been to some absolutely horrible Asian buffets but this is not one of them. This one is definitely worth going to. They have an excellent varity of entrees there for you to choose from and the food HAS BOLD FLAVOR, not bland out of the can type stuff. The Honey Pork was just delicious mixed in with pineapple and peppers. I usually go for at least one of the chicken entrees, most of which have a lot of veggies mixed in. I wish they would serve Chicken Fried Rice more often. The menu changes from day to day and most of the time I end up with Pork Fried Rice although it's also good. I am not a fish eater but some of my friends have enjoyed excellent meals from the sea including shellfish. This is a family business and the owner's children actively participate when they are not in school doing everything from seating customers to checking them out. If you go during lunch, the price is about $3 lower than dinner but the food is the same. China Buffet is well worth a visit on your Sunday drive. read more
