Gluten Free Orange Chicken and GF Fried Rice
Josh T.

Worth the extra 30 minute trip from Mall of America to this GF Gem Gluten free orange chicken was SO GOOD . It's so hard to find fried GF options we had to get seconds to go! Service was friendly, prompt, and very knowledgeable about allergies. Restaurant is a good size, nicely decorated, and the kids meal comes with deep fried cheesecake (not GF).

This was a great spot for fusion Asian cuisine - a combination of Vietnamese, Thai and Chinese! They also had a great selection of wine, beer and specialty cocktails. We had the Spicy Oyster Chicken wings for our appetizer and it's a must try! It was so savory and delicious! I had the Vietnamese noodle dish with eggrolls and grilled beef. My husband had the Ginger Chicken. Both dishes were very good. The server was friendly and our food was out by the time we finished our appetizer. The atmosphere was lively and fun. We will definitely be back to try some of the other dishes!

As a Vietnamese-American, this place serves more Americanized food items. You're not going to find breaded chicken entrees like sweet and sour, orange/lemon chicken, or sesame chicken in any authentic Vietnamese/Chinese restaurant. I came here with my in-laws for dinner to celebrate my birthday so I can't argue with a free dinner! It was a selected restaurant due to the gluten-free options that my sister-in-law prefers. Service & Ambiance: Our waiter was attentive. The place was busy when we went on a Saturday at 5:30PM. I noticed a bar on one end of the restaurant. My in-law did set a reservation for a table of 9 people. They also have little booklet and crayons for kids, as well as a drinks in a plastic cup with a lid. My niece and nephew had pink lemonade. Appetizers: We ordered banh bao, which I was surprised to see the content as not stuffed, but wrapped like mini tacos. The chicken wings was good, the meat was juicy, the breading was flavorful. The spring roll was rolled with perfection, the peanut sauce was also flavorful and compliments the spring roll well. Entree: I ordered the bun thit nuong cha gio, though I wish I ordered what my husband ordered: Luc Lac Beef. I was surprised to see it came out in a griddle and with an egg. The beef was flavorful and tender. It came with white rice, but you can upgrade to fried rice. The egg looked raw at first when it arrived - I didn't observe if my husband ate it or not. Overall, it is an OK spot for people of White Bear Lake to get some Americanized Asian food. If I go next time with the in-laws, I'd probably order the wings and luc lac beef, but it wouldn't be my go-to spot for some authentic Vietnamese food.

Wings (gfo)

We are from the south suburbs and had to be in the area where orchid is and decided to try them out as they are rated highly in the Find Me Gluten Free App. We got the wings which were SO flavorful, drenched in sauce, sticky, sweet, spicy, with a decent amount of crunch still in the batter of the wings. We absolutely destroyed those wings! We each got a pho and then did takeaway of an order of pad thai and one other entree (can't remember the name but it was delicious). I did not get a reaction at all so there was no cross contamination, the food came out super quick, the staff were great too. All in all a pretty perfect experience, which is so appreciated for someone who- since having to cut gluten out has a lot of food fear now eating out. You place a ton of trust into the establishments you choose & sometimes they really don't stand up to the claims or come close to what you'd hoped for and Orchid absolutely knocked it out of the park. Oh, and don't even get me started on that pho broth, SO flavorful and rich, silky & just divine. Some of the best broth I think I've ever had.

Beef and potatoes.

Every time we come here, we get the beef and potatoes. Absolutely delicious. Light and crispy potatoes with beef. I have tried three other restaurants to order beef and potatoes, and nothing comes close to the Orchid! My mom, my aunt and myself crave this dish

Stopped for lunch on a Friday & it was busy. We both had lunch specials: me sesame chicken & an egg roll & hubby had sweet & sour pork with chicken wings. The wings were good!! Fried rice with it was tasty. We sat by the comfy bar. Good food. Pleasant waitress.

Great selection of items on the menu! Very friendly wait staff. Could be a little bit larger dining room space for how popular it is.

I am vegan and explained that to her and they were able to accommodate me. I got the Szechuan Kung pao tofu. I got it spicy level 3/5 it did have some back heat but overall the initial tasted somewhat sweet. The tofu was nicely fried and there was a good bit and a good variety of vegetables. My mom got the Thai basil supreme with shrimp which had a red curry base. She got it spicy 4/5 and said it wasn't spicy and that mine was actually spicier. Overall we both enjoyed our food but the dishes were expensive. I don't know that I would rush back but it was good.

The chairs and tables were the type you'd expect at a Vietnamese restaurant; iykyk. The guy was prompt and brought our menus which was pretty slim being a double sided landscaped. More a Chinese restaurant than Viet, but it did have a section for Bun and Pho. Entree: Kung Pao Chicken It was tasty, the brown sauce was fairly generic, but in a good way. Like you'd want the consistency in a neighborhood restaurant, but you wouldn't drive out your way to get it. The chicken could use a bit more quality control since there were some grizzly pieces, but not enough to ruin the meal. The vegetables had a good crunch and were expected in a kung pao dish; carrots, onion, celery, peanuts. The portion was generous enough for leftovers or one very hungry adult male.

I ordered food online from them recently (administered thru GrubHub) and when I went to pick it up, there was a sign saying they were closed due to a sudden family emergency. I sincerely hope all is well for them. However, I didn't receive any food on a $55 order. As it was over the weekend, my wife called on Monday asking for a refund as we had given them a decent amount of money for us, but received nothing in return. The person she spoke to told us there was no manager who had access to the GrubHub account, but took our information and promised to resolve it. No answer as of today (Thursday) so I stopped in in-person. I was initially offered a cash refund. Until the person on duty spoke to the manager by phone. He told her it was a GrubHub problem and they couldn't refund money on a credit card purchase. So that was it. thanks for the money, now go away, not our problem. I reached out to GrubHub by chat and was told they couldn't find my order and therefore, wouldn't be offering a refund either. (that's a whole other story.) GrubHub later called back and said, still no refund, but the merchant was willing to offer a 10% discount on my next order. Huh?! I just gave you $55 you refused to give me back for giving me nothing! there isn't going to BE a next order from me, and likely the remainder of my family. I realize it's two entirely different groups saying it's the other one's problem. but Ha Long Bay ALWAYS had the option of doing right by their customers, regardless of who was at fault technically. But they chose not to. And when I called Ha Long Bay 45 minutes before their stated close time to give them one more chance, it went to voice mail. So, I guess I'm looking for a new place for great Pho.

It's was nice to come back after many years, and see that they are still here in the same spot…read more I spoke to the owner, and they have been in this same spot for 23 yrs! I ordered the pho, which was simply beef and meatballs. The broth was homemade, basically the same as what a Vietnamese friend made when they had our family over. Yes, you have to adjust the broth, if you're into pho. And yes, you have to ask for the fish sauce, and the sugar is in packets. The service is impeccable. The dining room is in order, without stacks of boxes in the hallway, and clean. There's plenty of parking. The bathrooms are clean. The owners treat you with kindness, a smile, and gratitude for your business. All these things count a lot nowadays. By the way, their homemade Tiramisu is out of sight! Warning - rant and support for local business: I was sad to read all the 1 star reviews. Most of it was for the blandness of the broth, and comparisons of this place to authentic spots in Frogtown, St. Paul. A little bit of history: they were here long before Maplewood Mall food court is now filled with Asian fare; even before Pho King showed up in the food court for those who remember. Back then, Vietnam Star was the only viable Asian option in these parts. By these parts I mean around Maplewood Mall and Costco. Here's the thing, the primary clientele here are Anglos, not Asians. In fact, today for lunch I was only 1 of 2 Asians in the dining room. So my expectations are adjusted accordingly. It is not in Frogtown, even though that's technically not that far away. But when you're shopping in Maplewood, Frogtown might as well be in Wayzata. So when I'm around here, I know the food in the mall maybe more to my taste. However, sometimes I don't want to sit in a big mall full of people, watching my back, pay a lot of money for small portions, and be treated like crap on top of it. Sometimes, I just want to go to a nice place, be treated like a human being, and sit down in a booth to have a big bowl of pho. So what if I have to adjust the broth? I'm in Maplewood for crying out loud. Let's all be fair and support local businesses that are trying to make it work.

The service was super quick! Very friendly and the ambiance and service makes you feel at home…read more Amazing Pho. I've never had the chicken equivalent before (Mi Ga). But they have it here, It was so delicious. Very friendly towards our young child too. I highly recommend coming here.
