I was actually really excited the first time I visited after a long hiatus. Due to the decline in quality. The eggrolls are a DEFINING feature there, they can be found NOWHERE ELSE. Believe me, I've looked!! This particular visit, I got the A++ eggrolls and was totally stoked!! I've stopped two times since then and they were soaked in oil, inside and out! Very disappointing! The old eggrolls where hot and crispy on the wrapper and then the filling was steamed, and thinly shredded. Not oily! I can't tell you how many times I traveled from KY to VA for those eggrolls! It is with a sad heart that I have to update this review to say that this place has new owners and it is not nearly as good. I don't know what they've done to the beef but it is so tough you can hardly chew it. They must've changed to a lower quality or something but the meat is almost inedible. It makes me very sad. We haven't branched out too much in our new town yet. We have been to a few spots and have kept going back to our favorites. Stopped in tonight to pick up egg rolls to have at home. Unfortunately, they were dripping oil and one of them had gravel in them. The staff laughed at my husband when he called to let them know about the gravel. The entrees are delicious as usual, but the egg rolls have gotten almost inedible. They are so full of black pepper that it's impossible to taste anything else. China Garden used to be very good. In fact, many in my family considered it to be the best in the tri cities. However, the food has not been the same for a long time now. And it is not worth wasting money here anymore. The egg rolls are now way too greasy, and everything tastes bland. This place is like an unknown gem. It's amazing. Everything I have ever eaten here has been fantastic. My favorite thing is the sesame chicken. It's absolutely unique... It's what it should be. Most places think "sesame chicken" is just General Tso's chicken with some sesame seeds scattered over it. It's not! I love this place, and it has the best sesame chicken you will find anywhere, at least as far as I know! If you are anywhere in the area, go out of your way to try it. You won't be disappointed. This is currently my only 5 star rating. I'm a harsh critic of food. This is one of the few places that has food worthy of the name. read more

The drawback to this place is the food is actually good. I say that because everything else is god awful. The restaurant itself is dirty and disgusting, the prices outside of the lunch menu are terrible, and the staff are the dregs that even fast food wouldn't hire. First of all, they need to deep clean the restaurant and bathrooms. Many other people in the county have also complained about the service, prices, and cleanliness of the restaurant. The restaurant doesn't look like it has been cleaned in several years. The price of the food is overpriced for a Chinese restaurant located in Wise County. Secondly, they need to hire some better qualified waitresses with experience or train them better. I walked into the restaurant holding a two year old, and I had to ask for a hi-chair. The waitress pointed to the hi-chairs and told me to get it myself. We were the only customers for about 20 minutes after being seated. Four other families came into the restaurant after we ordered our food. The waitress brought out two trays of food to the other customers who had arrived at the restaurant 20 to 30 mins later than us. I finally went and asked about our food after waiting one hour. The other waitress at the cash register said, "she didn't have a clue about my food and stated that she wasn't even my waitress." Then, she started laughing and mocking me to another customer at the cash register. Very unprofessional attitude and she was dressed inappropriate for her type of job. My waitress finally told me that my food would be coming out and stated that she was very busy. She never apologized for the delay on our order of food. I asked about the other customers getting their food before us and she claimed the food items were only appetizers. I asked my waitress if I could speak to the manager and she wouldn't let me talk to her. I told both waitresses that the service and wait time was inappropriate. One of the waitresses replied by saying "don't fall down on your way out." After being a costumer there for years, I will not be returning. read more

I have tried this restaurant three times and have never had a good experience. I don't know if the food is better when you eat in but the carry out is horrid. I ordered a general tso chicken combination plate and they gave me a container with 5 chunks of chicken. I was so angry I just asked for my money back. I tried it again and the chicken was a soggy mess. I thought I would try it again and I was still disappointed when getting food for all my friends and we all got lackluster food. It's dusty, the walls look like they haven't been cleaned for years, the door as you walk out is covered in grime, the list goes on and on. It is hard to imagine how the kitchen must look. I've eaten at China Garden multiple times over the years. I oftentimes enjoy their food, it's not the best but it's decent for the area and price. The service was questionable, but I never noticed anything out of the ordinary. That changed today, when my girlfriend and I sat down during lunch for a light meal. She ordered eggdrop soup and an egg roll. I ordered two of those egg rolls, myself. We both drank water. It was during lunch hours, so the egg rolls were only 1.05 a piece, the soup was 1.25, and the waters were free. If you tally that up, it comes to $4.40. But when we got the check, we were told it would be $6.78. No, i said. That cant be right. "The tax is high here, honey," the waitress assured me, to which i argued that tax surely couldn't be almost 50%. "Thats what it is," she repeatedly stated. The confrontation went on for several minutes until i just agreed to pay it out of fear of losing my cool in a public restaurant. The tax in the area is 12%. I shouldn't have been charged almost two dollars extra, then given no explanation for the obvious lapse in mathematics. The money is of no issue, it was only a few bucks, but the principle of theft from customers on the part of the staff is simply inexcusable. I wont be eating here again, and I recommend others to steer clear as well. read more

I had ordered from here and went on my lunch break to get it. When I got back to the office it was the wrong order. I called and talked to the lady and she apologized, she said to come back in and they would take care of it. I advised i was on lunch and could not make it back. She said she would write my name down and give me a credit. I called a few days later and advised when I called that I had a credit from before, the man said ok. When I went to get the food an older Chinese lady came out yelling stating they do not do credits. I told her what happened and the girls name I talked to she said that she was there all day and nothing was wrong and they do not mess up. She told me the girl did not have the authority to give a credit and she would not approve it, because again she was there and they do not mess up! I think Asian Cafe has better service BY FAR!!!!!
