When I stopped into this Chinese restaurant, it was operating as a takeout only operation, perhaps due to the lack of air-conditioning during hot weather. The reason I stopped in was that they had a small vegetarian selection and I ordered a tofu dish to go and paid in cash as they do have a credit surcharge. I wasn't thrilled with the amount of broccoli on the dish and even having that picked out, it was a reasonably spicy and savory offering, but not great. I was in town, visiting family when we decided to stop in to have dinner together. I had never eaten at the Red Flower Chinese Restaurant before but the family had and had never had any issues before. We arrived two hours before closing with the intentions of eating the buffet. We went in and had to seat our selves. A minute later, our server came and took our drink order and then walked off to fill it. We then went to the buffet to get a plate of food. They were low on plates, having only a couple left and had an odd mix of metal and plastic silverware. As we proceeded to move along the buffet it was quite noticeable how bare it was. Most pans were either empty, near empty, or had been sitting there for some time. This was fine at first as we assumed that the cooks were working on fixing more. However... this ended up not being the case at all. More customers came in, intending to partake in the buffet and were promptly informed that the buffet was closed... an hour and a half before close and that they could only order from the take out menu. There were no signs stating this nor were we told this as we had our drink order taken. We were allowed to assume that the buffet was open and being refilled. there was only one pan that was refilled and sadly... it didn't last long as there were several families eating at the location. None in my family ate more than a small handful of food and still paid full price for the buffet. The food was good for what it was... but I've had better at most any other restaurants of similar types. Nothing special and not something that would draw me back in for more. Our server was not seen often though when she did come by she made sure to make sure that we had plenty to drink. This place definitely needs to take a look at how they're running their business. Get rid of the buffet if you can't keep it filled with variety. Focus on take out. I do not recommend this place nor will we be back. We had to go to another restaurant afterward to actually get something to eat after leaving the Red Flower. read more

Still a faithful customer. I haven't had but one bad experience. They hired a new girl who just hated the work. The next time I came she had quit and the balance was restored. Still the best Chinese in Wise County. Its not the prettiest place to be like say Asia Cafe but it has better quality food and it tastes good. My family and I stopped for dinner this evening about 2 hours before close time. We were seated and went to the buffet and immediately noticed it was pretty bare with most bins either empty or sparse. That was fine with the assumption being that more food was coming, unfortunately that was not the case. In fact several people came in after us within about 1.5 before closing and they were informed the buffet was closed. It would have been nice to know that the buffet wouldn't be restocked that night before we began to eat. It was probably one of the worst buffet experiences I've had, so bad it was comical. Especially with the patron scolding signs about charging more for excess food waste. The buffet didn't even have food to waste. If this is continues to be the case they should just shut the buffet down and focus on carry out. read more

Bad. There is no reason this place should even offer a buffet because it's so pathetic. I think I may have counted only 8 or 9 items on the hot table. They have no competition in the area so they are pretty conservative about their variety. I ate here today with a friend who lives in this town and it is the only Chinese restaurant that locals have to choose from. They don't take credit or debit---cash only, which sucks because I rarely carry enough cash to cover 2 people and I was buying her child's food too. Luckily my friend had lots of cash on her and paid for everything while I found an ATM nearby to repay her. I noticed the restaurant has a "slop bucket" near the back of the restaurant by the bathrooms to dump wasted food in that customers don't finish. Unsanitary and unsightly in my opinion. What exactly do they do with this wasted food at the end of the day? Feed it to dogs?? Recycle it?? The interior is ugly as ever and very outdated too. They don't have any music playing either.,,you know, the relaxing music that better China eateries have going on in the background. Can't believe I ate here. Pretty good American Chinese food. The service was great. The food was tasty. Four seasons was our favorite dish.

The Red Flower is one of those places that you go into knowing that the food is salty and greasy. It's food that may not be good for you but good for your soul. Lots of choices on the menu. The buffet is consistently stocked with favorites like general tso's, wontons, lo mein, fried rice, dumplins, etc. Food is always warm and the staff is always friendly. Clean place that could maybe use a decor update, but heck if it isn't broken don't fix it! read more

This is a Chinese food buffet. I'm staying in Big Stone Gap, VA for the Thanksgiving weekend with my daughter and being from California we were not familiar with the food joints here. The food was not good, it was extremely salty. We should have walked out the minute we saw there were no customers there. Later on after eating there I was having a conversation with a local town person and I mentioned to him i had this really salty taste in my mouth from the food here. I've been eating here for a couple of years now and the Jalapeno Chicken is the best. I've always enjoyed everything here.
