New City Bakery is a place where my love for bakeries comes from. NCB gave me my first job at 15(years ago) and never once treated me like hired help but a part of their beautiful family. I attribute my background in mathematics to NCB for all the quick calculations I had to do for customers who were in a time crunch. I know firsthand how things are prepared and that their facilities are the cleanest I've ever encountered. I once had the pleasure of preparing a jelly roll...so much fun! The tortillas here are constantly in demand and I know of a lot of New Braunfels eateries who serve them. Quite honestly, sometimes I just go to NCB for the wonderful aroma...I swear this must be what heaven smells like! Please bottle this up! The people behind this wonderful establishment get there as early as 5 to start baking and preparing for your arrival. I would HIGHLY recommend their sweet potato empanadas...you've never had a sweet empanada until you've had theirs. The filling and hard to beat crust are out of this world delightful! Their campechanas are always something to brag about. All the items are reasonably priced and worth every penny. The staff consists of a brilliant bilingual bunch that'll assist with any questions you have. Check them out and give them a pat on the back (or raise the roof) for all their generous support and dedication in providing the people of New Braunfels with such perfection for so many years!

After visiting another downtown famous bakery and being sugar-shocked with all the sweets available (everything was loaded with sugar), my search for a bakery that offered baked items with reduced sugar began. I knew I wanted to find a Mexican Bakery with sweet breads and empanadas. Mexican sweet bread (pan dulce) has a little sweetness from the sugar and cinnamon, but about 1/4 of what would be on a traditional American treat. Don't get me wrong, those cinnamon rolls and sweet kolaches looked great at Naeglins, but I want to watch the sugar overload. Upon entering, this dark and bare walled little building, I started glancing at the multiple display cases. There were wedding cakes, empanadas, cookies, and my favorite: pan dulce (many of them in all colors and flavors). I asked for one that was not too sweet. I had to point because we were having a communication problem. That's all right, I can point. I chose an orange one, which when opened slightly, it was just like an Hawaiian sweet roll; however, this bread was the fluffiest, lightest bread, I have ever tasted. It was extraordinary. On top, was dusted some cinnamon and sugar mixed. What I like the best is all their individual breads are wrapped in air tight plastic bags to keep them fresh. I am going to pan sear some ham tonight with mayo and pickles and eat a sandwich made with that delicious bread. I can't wait to go back. That dulce was only 97 cents.

The bakery was founded in 1868; it is recognized as the oldest continuously operating bakery in Texas. Naegelin Bakery is located in downtown New Braunfels, which makes it convenient for sightseeing and picking items up to enjoy while engaging in local activities. The bakery has old-world charm...old school display cases and shelving along with the quintessential bakery smell. You are immediately drawn into the bakery web. Definitely an ole school bakery... Naegelin's is known for traditional German baked goods, including apple strudel, kolaches (both fruit and meat), German rye bread, and its iconic pink-frosted Lebkuchen cookies. According to bakery staff, many recipes are still based on formulas developed generations ago. I purchased apple strudel, oatmeal raisan cookies and a piece of cheesecake. All were good, however, the strudel was the standout. The bakery also offers a wide range of breads, cakes, doughnuts, and seasonal items, making it easy to find something regardless of taste or occasion.

She also called to ask if we needed delivery, which was also already paid for in advance. When I addressed these issues, she was very rude and tried to blame the mistakes on graduation week--which is completely unacceptable given that I booked and paid well in advance. After awhile, I noticed how good the food coming out looked so I had to place an order. I received a pager for my order and went to wait for my order. It seemed like it was taking forever and the pager never buzzed so I went up to check on my order. Turns out, they had been paging the wrong pager number and my order had been sitting there for awhile which I found to be frustrating (I was hungry). My order contained the following: - Ciabatta Steak Sandwich: Absolutely delicious! The meat was perfectly cooked, the bread was soft, everything was perfect! - Grilled Steak Fries: Some of the best fries I've ever had! AMAZING! Once my friends tried them as well, they all wanted more too. I would definitely order from this food truck again as the food was incredible, but hope they can be a bit more organized in the future.
