Meh. Just ok. I saw Katie for an all over color. I had some caramel highlights and wanted to go dark brown like my natural hair color. She said she had to color it twice, once to a medium brown, and then another to go dark brown, doubling the cost ($120). The price was outrageous for a simple all over color. We went to the medium brown but it turned out more light brown. She also put a temporary color even though I said I wanted a permanent one. There's an additional $30 charge for blow dry. There are better salons where you won't feel so nickel-and-dimed. read more

New Creations is where I have been getting my hair done ever since they opened. It is very convenient to where i live. They share a parking lot with a few other businesses, including ATT. New Creations sells a lot of great hair products and makeup. I buy my all of my Pureology hair products there. The staff is always friendly and helpful when making appointments. Ginger has been my hairdresser for almost 30 years! She offers her expertise opinion, but is accommodating to your every hair need. I'm new to Tuscaloosa and was in need of a fresh hair cut. A friend from work recommended this spot and I decided to try it out as they have very affordable pricing here, $11 for a bang trim and $30 for a women's dry cut. As it was my first time here, I was showed around the space by the receptionist and she offered me a drink. She was very polite and easy to talk to, I was very impressed with their customer service. I decided to just stick with the bang trim and wasn't very impressed, but also wasn't disappointed. My lady was pleasant to speak with and gave me some helpful pointers in hair care. I was in need of a big hair change. I had grown my virgin hair out to right above my booty and was not ready to have it shaped and colored. I have gone level 10 blonde many time. My hair takes to it very well so I'm lucky that I get little to no breakage. But on a whim and new in the city I booked an apt here due to the reviews and it being close to my house. The staff was super nice and warm and didn't try and make TOO much small talk (which I prefer anyway). So, I show her a picture of what I want and she tells me she won't be able to do that on my hair that it wouldn't take like the pic I showed her.. I said what do you mean?! That's MY picture! Of MY hair! It absolutely can handle it, I've done it many times. SO instead she decides to do all over highlights and tells me it will still be very blonde. I walked out of there so frustrated that I paid $450 for "highlights" and my hair looked no different. I felt she didn't listen to me as a client and bc of that my experience was a disappointment. I have been using NC for at least 25 years and Ginger has always come through for me and my head full of hair....It is a very pleasant experience and one that I look forward to every Six weeks. I absolutely love this salon. It is the only one I bother going to in Tuscaloosa. It's pricier than other places in town but you're paying for high quality service. The receptionists know my name and check me in as soon as they see me walk in the door. I go to Jennifer for all my hair bleaching, dyeing, and cutting needs. She was great at helping me keep my hair icy blonde back when I was determined to look like the Mother of Dragons. Then when I wanted to switch things up and drag my roots out, while keeping the majority of the hair blonde, she did that too. She has since helped me get my hair back to its natural color. Not only is she a great colorist, but she cuts my hair beautifully. She's a perfectionist and we both sit there until my bangs are perfect. I always appreciate the fact that she takes the time to check with me that I'm happy with my hair before I leave and she isn't trying to rush me out the door. I had my hair styled for a wedding by another woman but unfortunately I cannot remember her name. But that's just another example of the quality of stylists they have at NC Salon! I have also gotten waxes, manicures, and pedicures here too. I personally prefer making an appointment instead of going into walk-in salons. Anyway, Melissa is great for waxes. She is professional and thorough. I tried another waxing center in town and the quality just did not compare. Basically, this salon is the place to go if you want people who genuinely care about providing you with a service you'll be happy with. If you walk out and aren't happy, go back as soon as you can and ask them to fix what you don't like! They'll work with you! Basically, this salon is the bomb. read more

This salon is by far the BEST salon I have ever been to!!! I was greeted as soon as I walked in the door. This salon is very welcoming and pleasant. I was also offered drinks and snacks while I was waiting. The chairs are comfortable too! Usually, I am an impatient person and I have chronic back issues however I did not have any trouble sitting down while my stylist did my hair. Kim was very professional and made me feel very comfortable. I LOVE the color and cut she gave me. I left feeling like a whole new woman. I would definitely RECOMMEND! 10/10 experience! read more

New creations does a darn good job, this is my first time going, but I only rated them a 3 star because they charge way way to much, they charged me $140.00 the first time & then she wanted me back & said it would be $160.00 the next time there nuts, that is ludacris,everyone is not rich snots, so I made me another appointment some where else that does a just a good as job as creations & they only going to charge me $60.00 dollars.that's more like it. Here is how awesome the experience was at this salon and with Natalie: I went home after my appointment and didn't fix my hair!!! I gave this salon a try after an awful experience at another salon where the stylist did not listen to my wants, wishes and needs and didn't sanitize dropped tools. Natalie on the other hand was everything I could ask for in a stylist. She took quite some time to figure out what was previously done to my hair and what color would work well now. Natalie took into consideration that there are redheads in my family and that I want a somewhat low maintenance style. She took care of my "wisdom" hair, low and high lights. The color looks stunning and so natural. I showed her a picture of a haircut I liked and while some parts still need to grow it looks fabulous. After looking at reviews for New Creations, I decided to give them a try. I booked online and was contacted almost immediately by the salon manager with an opening later in the day. When entering the salon, I was extremely pleased with the way I was greeted and shown around the salon. My stylist, Mary Smith, came to get me and, after asking me about my preferences, gave me one of the best haircuts I've ever had! She gave me the names of the products she used and explained how they were made for my type of coarse hair. I love this salon. I recently got my hair cut with layers and got it framed by Kim and she did an amazing job! I am very particular about my hair cut so I told her how I wanted it and she listened and talked me through it while she cut. The stylist I see is wonderful, so talented and a pleasure to talk to- I really enjoy going there and highly recommend Carley! I do have to echo what a previous reviewer noted about the front desk service, which is completely independent from actual hair services. The front desk customer service would benefit from being a little bit kinder to guests. When I arrived to my latest appointment and checked in, they couldn't locate me, and asked me if I was "sure my appointment was at New Creations?" I have been coming here for several months; no, I am not randomly showing up at a salon...how strange. They finally did find me in their system, but instead chose to blame me, the guest, first and foremost, before thoroughly reviewing their own records. I visited the salon for a consult and ended up getting a new do, and feeling really good about the job my stylist Mary did. I gave her pretty much free reign to do what she wanted to do, and when she suggested something I wasn't quite comfortable with, she didn't eschew my feedback, but really compromised to come up with a style that would work for me. Take out a loan before you go!!! I would give zero stars if it were possible!!! I have gotten my hair cut at New Creations before, and $55 was not too bad for a cut. But when I went in to get a "Base breaker/toner" (my roots done) for $35 quoted to me, I was talked into getting regular highlights, since my hair is so short, and after being trimmed, it would not look lighter. I was never told how much it would be, and now know that I should have asked, so with my very short hair thought that it would be $75 at the most. I also got my hair trimmed, which every other salon that I have gone to has included with the color. I almost had a stroke when they told me that I had to pay $192.50 for highlights and a trim. The next day I called and spoke to the manager, who said that she would speak to my stylist and call me right back. Over an hour later I called her back, and she put the stylist on the phone. She admitted that she should have told me the price, then said that they are a "full service salon" and that she has done hair for 38 years, so her rates are higher, and thinks that she is worth the extra money. She's not!! She said that my haircut is a "precision cut, and not everyone can do it." BULL!!! $109 for about 20 foils, $55 for a trim, and $30 for a squirt of toner. OUTRAGEOUS!!! I called and was able to make an appointment for later that day (Saturday afternoon). I was paired with Sarah and she was great. Not only was she friendly, but she did a great job on my cut and color. I have been going to her since. The salon is very clean and they have options for people to get their makeup, hair, eyebrows, and more done. One thing I have learned, it is best to make appointments when possible. Lastly, one unique thing about the salon is that they have over 30-40 stylists employed. These ladies vary in experience and are assigned to one of three levels. If a employee has had enough clients/experience in the company, they move up to the next level. The higher the level stylist, the more in cost. Overall, great salon! I recommend. read more

I had been here once and got a cut that I wasn't too found of but thought I would give them a second chance. Bad idea! All I want was an inch off and the layers blended better. What I ended up with was about 3 inches chopped off with no blending between layers and a haircut that I was so embarrassed of that I wore it in a pony tail until I could go get it fixed somewhere else. When I went to another salon to see if it could be fixed the stylist there took a picture of the back of my hair and revealed a very choppy and extremely uneven cut, even to an untrained eye! Natalie makes miracles happen. I wish I could say that about the front desk customer service. After waiting 4 days to finally get the appointment booked; I was called 30 minutes before the appointment to get notified that she was running a bit behind so I would need to reschedule. When asking if I could come in a bit later they said no. Would not work with me what so ever. They even took it as far as saying that they were going to have to move everyone's time today. Which we all know is not the truth. If you want to be called 30 minutes before your appointment, (that you have arranged your whole day around) to be told you need to reschedule then I HIGHLY recommend you choose another salon.
