I was given a gift certificate by my massage therapist who is a client as well of the Newday wellness. I suffered from sacrum pain for over 6 months and was in search of healing treatment. I have been going to New Day for more than 3 years. I can't remember the last time I wrote a negative review, partly because I tend to research products and services before buying and partly because I don't have much time for writing reviews. But I had an unpleasant and costly experience with Ms. Katie Ray at New Day Network Wellness Center and I feel it is my duty to warn others about her. I heard of Ms. Ray through a friend. The concept of Network Spinal Analysis is more than a little strange, but my friend found her first session helpful and Ms. Ray offers a free initial consultation, so I thought I'd give it a try. That appointment went well and I was interested enough to sign up for five more sessions, which I paid for in advance. I have a serious, relapsing health condition, which is partly why I'm open to trying new and different therapies like the one New Day offers. Ms. Ray is aware of this condition. I used one of the sessions and planned to use the rest after returning from an out of town trip, however, while away I became very sick and remained so for several weeks after returning to Chicago. To make matters worse, our household lost a main source of income, and with me out of commission, our financial picture for the rest of the year was looking very tight. Adding another ongoing health expense--3x weekly network spinal sessions--was no longer practical, and since Ms. Ray had said that a few isolated appointments were unlikely to bring results, I sent her an email explaining the situation and asking if she'd be willing to refund the unused portion of the money I had advanced her. She replied and said that it was not her policy to give refunds for care and that I could call her if I wanted to discuss it. I was still quite ill at the time and not feeling up to a conversation, but I did write back and asked if she would consider making an exception. After all, I wasn't requesting a refund for care but rather a return of prepaid moneys that had not yet been used. I realized that she might have been concerned about recouping the costs of the free consultation, so I even suggested that she count that and deduct it from the refund. To say that I wasn't expecting what happened next is an extreme understatement. Ms. Ray replied with a nasty and insulting email, possibly the worst I've had the misfortune to receive. She began by criticizing me for emailing rather than calling as she suggested, declaring that (direct quote) "talking is what adults do," and ended by refusing to deal any longer with my "cryptic messages." As an aside, I asked my partner--who holds a master's degree in communication--to read my two messages and he said they seemed very clear. I myself hold two degrees in communication--graduate and postgraduate--and work professionally as a business writer. "Cryptic" is not an adjective generally used to describe me. This woman is working in a helping profession. She hangs a sign with the word "Wellness" over her door. I don't know if she was having a bad day, or if she read something into my emails that was not intended. What I do know is that her email was the worst treatment I've received from anyone I've ever transacted business with, including ruthless corporate executives, Department of Motor Vehicles clerks and disgruntled Jewel cashiers. I called Ms. Ray immediately after receiving the email, but when she didn't answer, I decided to let it go. Few things deplete my limited energy more than stressful, tense interactions with people. Because of Ms. Ray's initial niceness, I thought I might catch a break and be able to resolve the issue with her in a calm fashion. Instead, I ended up with the adrenaline rush, drama, and accompanying exhaustion I was specifically hoping to avoid. And I'm out $200. At a time when we can little afford to be throwing money away... great. Had Ms. Ray simply said, "No, I'm sorry," I would have been disappointed, but at least I could have used the remaining four appointments, or saved them for a future time when I could commit to a longer treatment time as planned. But her incivility has left me with little choice but to walk away. Network spinal care is an intimate, hands-on treatment akin to massage. After receiving such an email, I do not want this woman touching me. If you're searching for an alternative therapy to help you with a health condition, good for you! I myself have found much more relief in alternative practitioners' offices than in conventional doctors'. But I would urge you to keep looking. I could be wrong, but I don't think someone capable of the kind of unprovoked aggressiveness that Katie Ray has shown has any business working in a wellness profession. read more

Dr. Katie is a miracle worker. I had a 90 percent improvement after my first visit -- and that came without all the popping, twisting and cracking that I've experienced at traditional chiropractors. I've gone to traditional chiropractors before with running injuries, and I cannot deny their methods worked better, faster and for less $ than physical therapy had. But I dreaded the popping, cracking, etc. that came with it. This time around, I am pregnant and was having severe muscular pain in both upper legs and some lower back pain. (The latter is common with pregnancy, but the former is not.) Some days, it was painful just to stand up from a seated position, let alone do basic things like climb stairs, carry a basic bag of groceries, take the dog out or exercise her. Even though my husband did everything he could to take on those tasks, it was a very unwelcome adjustment for me to simply not be very mobile and to have to concentrate just to get up from a chair. When I climbed the stairs, I'd have to hold the hand just because I didn't have the strength and stability I normally would. I knew I wanted to try a chiropractor, but I definitely didn't want a traditional type of treatment this time. I had met Katie at a networking group about 2 years ago and knew she practiced a new kind of chiropractic that was much more gentle and didn't involve any of the cracking, twisting, etc. I scheduled an appointment and could not believe the difference. It's unbelievable. Her methods are more like going in for a nap and a light massage. You lay on a massage table, and she uses her hands to apply incredibly light pressure to different parts of your spine and back. There's zero pain and discomfort. I don't know how it works, but I do know that it DOES work, it's pain free and it's relaxing. I've nearly fallen asleep every time I've been there. As I said, I felt 90 percent better after 1 visit. I've since been back 3 times, and my pain is nearly gone completely. I feel stronger overall when it comes to hiking up the stairs to the condo (hand railing optional!), walking the dog, and doing basic every day things that require some effort and stability on your feet. For the last few days, I've been able to get the dog out to the lakefront and walk completely pain-free. If you're looking for chiropractic results without the traditional methodology, I cannot say enough good things about New Day Network and Dr. Katie Ray. read more

I have only seen Dr. Katie once, and once was enough for me to realize how much I will benefit from this work. I was interested to learn more about Dr. Katie's work as I had never experienced chiropractic work where the bones aren't forced back into alignment. I was a bit skeptical, but very intrigued. The treatment was painless and gentle, yet aware. Dr. Katie touched on all of my aching spots without me saying anything. After the treatment I felt very light and open. As the day progressed I got more and more relaxed and even laid down to take a nap. If you can imagine an ice cream cone melting, this is the tension seemed to melt away from my body. It was incredible how relaxed I felt. I'm am a massage therapist and yoga instructor and I have seen a few chiropractors and tai chi instructors. I have done seemingly crazy meditations, and nothing beats my visit with Dr. Katie. GAME CHANGER: I had never been to a Chiropractor before, nor did I really think or feel like I it was something I 'needed' in my life. When I met Katie, this was the first I'd heard of the type of chiropractic she provides. As someone used to hearing pops as a sign of "success", I must admit I was a bit skeptical. Wow! I've done a lot of body work and alternative medicine healing in my tim -I've pretty much tried everything under the sun for chronic tightness in my low back and neck as well as fatigue. I received a greater impact with Dr. Katie in just 12 sessions than I have in the last 9 years of trying other modalities. My chronic tension is gone, after being told by other providers that this was just something I would have to live with. Likewise, my fatigue have improved too. I realized how much of my fatigue was exacerbated by deep chronic holding in my spinal muscles. Dr. Katie was incredibly kind, attentive and offered a very thorough explanation of her techniques at our in-person consultation. She has a strong knowledge of body-based healing and made an effort to really wrap her head around my presenting symptoms. I've tried a lot of treatments over the years and, consequently, I ask a lot of questions. Her approach was very dialogic, patient, respectful and comprehensive. I'm a card-carrying believer in Network Chiropractic now. I talk about it so much to my friends, almost as if I had stock in the company or something! I'll be continuing through my package of 24 sessions with Dr. Katie and will likely stay with this modality for some time. Compared to other complementary healing modalities out there, the price is fine -especially considering Dr. Katie's hours and availability. I took my son here for a back issue, After four treatments he felt much better so I bought a bigger package (she doesn't take insurance), however, he never felt a lot better after multiple visits, I started thinking that perhaps it was just the time that passed prior which helped his back. I am still not sure on that. My issue with the center is that Dr. Katie is just not a nice person, if you doubt her or give her any grief she's very rude (I have the emails). She wanted us to be at her beck and call, she wanted me to bring him for two sessions per week ($100 per week!), most people cannot do that. Also, she was upset because I wanted to communicate via email and at some point she said if I wanted any more communications with her to call because she was done with email. I had explained to her with my work it was much better for me to email than call, she didn't care. I have had better chiropractors for less $ and who were nicer, I have moved on. read more

I had never been to a chiropractor before. I also had never heard of network spinal analysis. But I saw Dr. Katie's work at one of their monthly networking events and I was intrigued, yet still a little skeptical. After my first visit with Dr. Katie I personally experienced the potential for this kind of care. I love how Dr. Katie meets you where you are in life and helps you focus on the things that impact you day-to-day. I was completely surprised by the impact this care had on my emotional health, not just my physical health. My posture is improved, I have more energy to work out and generally feel healthier. I was introduced to New Day at a business happy hour about 5 months ago. I had never heard of them before, but learned they specialize in a type of chiropractic care called light touch chiropractic, or network spinal analysis, or there are several other things it's called. As someone who has visited traditional chiropractors with manual adjustments for many years, I was beyond skeptical as to how this type of care could work. Nevertheless, I was at a point where I needed to seek care (again), due to recurring back and neck issues. So I thought I'd give it a try. Let's start with some basics: - the office: is lovely. There are always essential oils diffusing, the colors are relaxing, and it's put together very nicely. There's a different selection of music playing each day. - the staff: I cannot say enough amazing things about the staff. The front staff (Amber, Diane, and Zulema) are in sync, know what's going on, are respectful, kind, compassionate, and everything you could ever ask for as you're welcomed in the office. Dr. Katie is a phenomenal healer. She takes time to listen, she genuinely wants you to have a great experience, and she has a way of explaining things that just makes sense. - the experience: there are three tables in the treatment room, so it's a group setting. Wasn't sure how I felt about that at first, but turns out I really didn't care, and you tend to forget there's anyone else in the room. - the care: true to its name, it really is a light touch. Like seriously, light. It took me several weeks to see how it was helping. What I found was that this care has been peeling back many layers that have been contributing to stress in my body, which has been causing years of issues. I've cried during several visits (turns out it's pretty common), and the emotional and physical relief I have felt has been amazing. On top of the amazing staff, the great office, and the unique care, New Day offers a fantastic community element. They host monthly community dinners, several workshops and events, and are always looking for ways to partner with other local businesses. I've met several people through the practice whom I've developed friendships with outside of the practice, as we've run into each other at events and it's made it easy to continue that relationship. So bottom line, would I recommend New Day? Yes. Yes. Yes. I've starting bringing my two and a half year old here as well. I had been experiencing back discomfort with radicular symptoms into my legs for several months. I'd been to physical therapy and had continued to do my home exercise program. Though my symptoms had indeed improved, I still had some residual ones. I came to New Day by referral and actually had no idea what Network Spinal Care even was. At first I was skeptical but I noticed a huge change from the very first treatment. I had been dealing with fibromyalgia symptoms for almost 2 years. At first I was totally satisfied in just relieving the chronic and constant pain, sleeping issues and brain fog.
