Although the office was busy, the process was really smooth and we were in and out in less than an hour. They checked out insurance, walked us through what was available and we had no surprises regarding costs. There was a sign on the door stating that they will limit to 2 patients inside and masks are required. However, they did not enforce this. I was inside with three other patients and all three did not have masks on! The staff had masks on, but they should enforce COVID-19 policies for the safety and comfort of others. We have been going to Dr. Adair for over 20 years, since I had lasik surgery in 2000! Dr. Adair is excellent, offers options, and the staff is very professional. The technology is the latest, and Dr. Adair takes the time to explain everything. The kids enjoy him, he works with them so they are comfortable with the options. My daughter was so nervous as a young teen to put contacts into her eyes and they spent so much time with her so she would feel comfortable and now she is a pro. The regional manager, Samanthajo, at the Clifton location is racist and rude! Will never come to this location ever again! Before seeing the Dr. I was asked if I wanted a contact lens fitting that was an additional $115 and I said no. After both daughters saw the Dr, I went to pay the $79 eye exam for each. I noticed they still included the $115 for the contact lens "fitting" that I said I wasn't interested in. When the regional manager saw that I was questioning the fee she rudely came and told me to have my daughter remove the trial pair lenses from her eyes and asked us to leave the store . The regional manager was rude, aggressive, racist and very unprofessional. I still paid because I did receive service from the Dr but the regional manager ruined the experience. I've been seeing Dr. Adair for 21 years. My children did also until they have moved away. He has always given the best exam whether for contacts or glasses. As I've grown older, there are other concerns of aging and I feel confident he can diagnose any aging conditions. He has advanced imaging technology to examine the retina and vitreous of the eye. I have been to this location several times. I love Dr Adair. He spent time with my daughter reviewing her retina scan to help her identify the nerves and other parts of the anatomy (she's in a PA program). The office staff, especially Samantha was very knowledgeable and knew the details of our insurance. She helped my husband pick out glasses and made several good recommendations. He is usually hard to convince to spend money but she convinced him (it was needed, he is hard on glasses, and only gets glasses every 4-5 years.) Everyone was masked and keeping distance. read more

I've worn glasses for 20 years now and contacts for 15 - and I've been to the eye doctor pretty much EVERY year to update my prescription. I also have an eye condition that requires yearly check-ups. I have exceptionally high expectations for eye care. I am pretty unimpressed by the service and care received here. Man, I am mainly mad at myself for giving them a second chance. I made the mistake of going to their Arlington location last year and ended up at their Clifton location this year. I promised myself I wouldn't give them my business again, but ran out of contacts and making an appointment with them is easy.... Lesson Learned: They are optometrists and not ophthalmologists. An optometrist is an eye doctor who has earned the Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree. Optometrists examine eyes for both vision and health problems, and correct refractive errors by prescribing eyeglasses and contact lenses. Some optometrists also provide low vision care and vision therapy. An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor (MD) or a doctor of osteopathic medicine (DO) who specializes in eye and vision care. Ophthalmologists are trained to perform eye exams, diagnose and treat disease, prescribe medications and perform eye surgery. They also write prescriptions for eyeglasses and contact lenses. (All About Vision.Com) The staff feels unprofessional and inexperienced- from the front desk to the assistants and the doctor. No one introduced themselves to me - if you are going to touch my eye at least tell me your name. Even though I mentioned one my concerns given my eye condition, the optometrist completely ignored this. She likely had no idea what I was talking about - I wish she had just been honest with me. Truly, I don't trust the opinion she gave me. Lesson Learned: They Just Want Your Money -- You know those offices where you just know they want to make money off of you - this is one of those. They offer a wide variety of services, and work to convince you that you NEED those for your eye health - at an extra cost. The contact lens review is $115 in addition to the regular eye exam. The retinal photo ("needed" for various screens) is an additional $35 and so on. I just want an eye doctor who cares more about the health of my eyes rather than making money. They make no effort to ensure that your insurance is covered by them. (And you have to sign that you agree you are okay with this). I've seen my fair share of eye care - and this is the first time I've been to an office that won't tell you if they do or do not accept from the get go. Last year, I was called much after the fact to be told that in addition to the amount I paid at my visit - I would owe more. This year, I actually looked through my insurance site to make certain they accept my insurance. "Fingers Crossed" For the average - you need new glasses and want a one stop shop - this is likely a good place to go. Dr. Adair is great! I've been a client here for probably 3 or 4 years and he has always been very professional and personable. I've been in to see him for both exams and medical eye related exams. The issue at this shop is the staff. They seem to have a high turnover for front office and sales staff, as I dont think Ive seen the same group at any given time. They are less than friendly and seem to be out to make a buck rather than continuing the sale of regular clients. Everytime I come in, Im asked to fill out the SAME paperwork and give them my SAME insurance cardn even when I advise nothing has changed. When I ask the young lady why, she just says, "I don't know. It's just policy." If you work there, you should know these things. Now, I get to see Dr. Adair. This is the highlight of the visit. When it comes time to get my year supply of contacts, I'm told they are $70/box. I ask the lady assisting me about price matching, which they had done previously, she says sure! I give the Costco optical price and there seems to be no issue. She indicates they can match the price. Another sales guy comes and says, we cannot match that price, but we can do it in the middle, because you have insurance benefits. Their inital cost per box was $20 MORE than Costco and $15 more than Walmart Optical. I get up and decline the offer, indicating I will just go down the street to Costco to get them, and walk out the door. So...what happened in the time the one lady says yes to price matching, and the other guy? Seems to me they'd like to keep the business in house, especially since thia was something they'd done before! I may continue coming here for Dr. Adair, but definitely not for the customer service or eyeglass and contact lens purchases. 3 stars for the doctor, but that's about it. read more

I was nervous to go to a new place after having the same dr for so many years but the nerves quickly disappeared. After multiple years and multiple optometrists (3 different offices over 10 years time), I finally found THE ONE! I have known for almost 10 years I have a slight astigmatism, and have not been satisfied every year I get a new prescription, new glasses and new contacts. It is always slightly blurry because the other eye doctors I went to took short cuts and lazy ways of prescribing the same prescription for both eyes, or not addressing or testing my astigmatism. Today, I learned I am left eye dominant, with worse vision in my right eye as well as astigmatism in both eyes with the right eye slightly worse. Long story short and 2 different eye prescriptions later, I have near perfect vision with my new contact lenses! I CAN SEE ALMOST PERFECT AGAIN after 10 years of searching for the right prescription and the right doctor! I used a Groupon to get an eye exam. The doctor was great and gave a very thorough eye exam. I opted not to purchase new eyeglasses, but to use my existing frames and just replace the lenses. I was told that the glasses would be in, in about a week and that I would receive a call. I waited 9 or 10 days and then called, was put on hold and then told someone would call me back. No one called back. The next day, I went to the store and after a search for my order, was told that one of the lenses was on back order. I was offered a different lens that was "close" to the prescription - ??? I opted to wait for my other lens to come in. It was about another week before someone finally called to tell me that my order was ready. While I was happy with my exam (the doctor was great), as well as the product, because of the non-communication about the delay in my order and no call back after calling them, I am giving 3 stars. read more

When my eye doctor (Centreville Eye Care) stopped taking my insurance, I made an appointment with Dr. Adair for my yearly check up. That was several years ago. I love that you can now make an appointment online. That is so helpful for times at work when I can jump onto the computer for a minute but cannot make a phone call. Dr. Adair is kind, professional, and thorough. He is also the only eye doctor I've ever seen who keeps my contact lens strength in stock! The staff are all friendly. I was not pushed to buy either glasses or contacts from their office. The store front is tiny, and I understand that they probably want to maximize retail space. My only suggestion would be to, if possible, separate the retail portion of the store from the reception desk and make a bit of a waiting room. read more

My daughter comes back from college ever so often and we have tried this place for the first time. A few months back she went there as a first time customer, for her frames and lenses filled, turns out the prescription was weaker than what it was, she had to revert back to her old glasses. Had to wait for the holidays since she is away for college. Made this appointment 1 month ahead of time (if not more advance), shows up on time and the Dr. ends up taking a different patient ahead of her, resulting to her appointment being pushed back for no apparent reason. Fine, she waited for an additional 20min and the patient the Dr took ahead of her had a medical emergency when her resulted to her appointment being rescheduled altogether. Keep in mind, she is only back so they can fix their wrong. We won't be back here as returning customers. read more

*this review is for the after exam eyeglasses & contacts sales. I saw two doctors there, one for medical purpose and the other for fitting. 5 STARS FOR THE DOCTORS: VERY THOROUGH & EFFICIENT. After the exam, I felt like I was in the "time share presentation". Then when I said I am not ordering he immediately said " you'll have to pay for the fitting which we can take out from your Spectera allowance $125. NOTE: I showed him 2 insurance : Aetna & Spectera to see which one was better for this visit. Did not inform me that in Aetna all I need to pay was $42 co pay for fitting. Anyhow, it's done . They did not even provide me a print out for my prescription . I had to call and come back for it. My mistake for not asking clearly about "prescriptions only" before going trough the fitting, because at Dr. Cho at Fair lakes, no co pay for the same vision care Spectera, the only addition is $35 for dilation which is extra medical exam. At Dr. Cho, it's all about eye exams and no sales talk of whatsoever . Then again, it's just me, don't let my experience affect yours. read more

I love this place! I have been seeing the doctors here for over 5 years. They are always welcoming, and friendly. The exam is to the point. I have never had an issue with finding an appointment that fits my crazy schedule. I wear contacts and glasses. While I don't purchase my glasses through them, on the pricier side, I do like their option for contacts. When I purchase a year of contacts, they offer to replace any that I don't have to complete the year. Rip your contact and don't have enough to get through to your next appointment, they give you a couple more with no extra charge! Facility is nice, clean and simple. Only wish there was some more seating spaces to accommodate the busy days. read more

Even though I am on a tight budget, I have finally learned that going to an independent professional optometrist like New Era is far superior to going to a cheap eyeglasses chain for so many reasons. The most important reason is your ocular health and vision. Dr. Adair listened to the problems I had with my vision and spent time in order to get the most accurate prescription, check my eye health and answer my many questions, since I was unhappy with the glasses that I had. Although I came in ready to purchase a Groupon coupon, the technician told me he would be able to beat that deal, so check before you buy an on- line deal. I was able to put that money toward designer frames and special lenses and get a price that was comparable to more generic glasses at a chain store. Anyone who wears glasses knows how all the add-ons and extras, some of which are not optional, add up to make each pair of glasses far more expensive than advertisements would lead you to believe. The technician was also excellent, and the office is run very well. It was very easy to get an appointment and to get service. They had a nice selection of frames. They also did not hesitate to give me copies of my prescription, so that I can now use any source I want for an extra pair, but I will be returning to New Era when I need an eye exam again. Parking is tough in Clarendon, but I used it as an excuse to visit the nice neighborhood. read more

Worst experience I've ever had at an optometrist. I've been wearing glasses for 24 years and contacts for 17. Dr Gomez was nice and I'm sure Dr. Adair is nice too. I got fitted for contact lenses by Dr. Gomez but went back next day to try a different brand. There was this young African American female doctor in the office and she was very rude and unfriendly and unprofessional and combative. I have not seen a more rude or unprofessional doctor in any field. She didn't smile or say hi or greet me in any way. She told me to have a sit in her office and asked why I was there. When I told her that I'd like to try a different contact lenses she immediately started giving me attitude about it. I was hoping to get a professional consultation on what other daily lense might be a good choice for me but her reply was "I don't know. It's up to you". I couldn't believe my ears. When I said "umm I don't know. How bout Acuvue Moist?" she just handed me a pair of the lenses and told me to put it on right there on the examination chair that I was sitting in. No mirror or hand washing station or tissues whatsoever. The contact lense fitting station was outside in hallway by the way. After I put the contacts on, she told me to cover one of my eyes with my hand and read the chart. And she had me cover the other eye with my hand. Have you ever been to an optometrist that told you to cover your eyes with your hand? How lazy do you have to be to treat your patients that way? And to find the proper contact lens prescription that works best for you, you're supposed to try a few other corrective glass lenses AFTER you've put the contacts on because it is possible to see slightly differently with different brands of contact lenses. Dr. Gomez did this the first time. But this young female doctor told me to read a chart after I put on the Acuvues and when I was able to read it, she was basically like "ok you have 20/20 vision, so what's your problem again?". To cut the long story short, I wanted to try another brand of contacts (Civa AquaComfort) but she wouldn't let me. After arguing with her for 20 minutes because she wasn't willing to give me a trial pair of Aquacomforts, I just came home with the acuvue moist trial lenses. All I wanted was 2 or 3 pairs of Acuvues and another pair or two of the AquaComforts so I can see which one worked better for me, but she this lady was so lazy and rude she did not want to seem to lift one finger to do anything. I kept telling her how would I know which lens is better for me if I don't try other lenses and she kept implying that I was a picky customer and that I have no reason to try any other brand. Does this make sense to you? And I kept saying even if it Brand A works for me, how would I know if other brand will work even better if I only have experience with Brand A and don't have a baseline to compare to, and she kept telling me to go home with the Acuvues. I honestly don't know what her problem was. Was she a racist and just giving me a hard time? Do they not pay her enough?Was she just having a bad day? Did she have a fight with her husband or a boyfriend? I don't know. I have not had a worse customer service anywhere period, let alone a doctor's office. More than anything what so turned me off was her demeanor. So unfriendly and rude and it clearly says on her face "I don't want to work. Please go home so I can have an easy day and go home too". I'm not coming back to New Era Eye Care as long as she still works there. read more
