Even before visiting the store, I spoke with Amber over the phone multiple times related to newly available FDA-approved Essilor Stellest myopia-control lenses. She was consistently patient throughout our interactions. During our visit, Mir took the necessary fitting measurements. Amber and Mir guided us, including our child, through the entire process of purchasing Stellest eyeglasses without rushing. We needed to use the exchange policy for custom medical eyewear. The process involved multiple visits and several phone follow-ups and was handled professionally. Richard and Silvia took time to review the situation carefully and addressed the necessary details. Silvia rechecked the measurements using optical equipment to ensure accuracy, and the exchange was completed efficiently. This review is for the ophthalmologist, not the retail optical store. We have gone to this location for more than 10 yrs visiting a few different doctors. After our last visit last month with Dr Kim, we will not be returning. She is terse and dismissive. She has bad "bedside manner" that brings down the rest of the group. Target had called me unprompted before my visit stating that they would try to fit in my daughter and I back to back for our visits even though we had were scheduled an hour apart. I kindly asked Dr Kim if my daughter could follow me and she rudely said I should be respectful of other patients and value their time..I said I just asked since I was called by Target about it, but I was fine with whatever. Additionally during my appt, she said I needed my eyes dilated. I expressed I've never done that; and would continue not to do. When she handed my paperwork to the front desk at the end of the visit, she told her to schedule my dilation..I declined (again) once she walked away. Also during my daughters appointment, Dr Kim "joked" that she should be thankful her eye sight wasn't as bad as mine. My insurance changed and I paid out of pocket self pay to continue here for this visit, as I had such wonderful experiences for the last decade with the other and past doctors. I had a great experience getting an eye exam and contact lense fitting at this location. The optical department has a full selection of glasses and contacts as well as an optometrist office. There is a separate outdoor entrance to the optometrist office in the front of Target if you do not want to actually enter Target. Scheduling was extremely easy online and I was able to enter all my insurance information prior to the visit. They have a decent amount of availability so I was able to make an appointment a few days before. The exam was a very thorough with the option to have the retinal scan. Using my insurance and paying was easy and painless. I also appreciated that they checked the contact lense fitting and gave me a tester pair prior to issuing the prescription. The follow-up appointment was very easy to schedule and quick. The office push me to buy glasses or contacts onsite like many other optometrist offices. The one drawback was the wait time was a bit long despite having a scheduled appointment. The contact lense prices seem pretty competitive so I might order those online once I need new ones. I will definitely use this office again for convenience, price and ease. read more

They recently switched optometrists and the new one is just as great as the last. She's very thorough, informative, and values your comfort throughout the appointment. It could be unrelated, but the staff in the office seem to have improved in friendliness and professionalism, not that the previous staff was necessarily lacking, but I did notice a difference. Definitely recommend coming here. As long as you come prepared with information for your paperwork this will be a nice and easy appointment for you. I was working in the area and needed new glasses and went here mainly because of insurance. I ordered my glasses after the exam. When they came in I ordered another pair because I loved the frames. The first pair had to go back because the progressive was so low I had to tilt my head back so far to see the computer, they went back. The new lens's came in, not any better but said screw it. The second pair came in, wrong color on the frames. They guy argued with me that they were exactly what I ordered, ummmm no!! I pulled the frames from the display to show him what I ordered, placed them next to the ones he tried to give me, huge difference! He changed out the lens's to the display pair????? Still, whatever. Unfortunately I left the area soon after and the prescription never felt right. I couldn't pinpoint it, sometimes one felt too strong, the other too weak, I would get an occasional headache but nothing I could nail down for sure. Fast forward 8 months. I got new insurance and decided that my prescription was off and I wanted it checked. The Dr didn't think it would have changed much in 8 months so almost talked me out of it. I explained that I thought the last one was off. He was so much more thorough than Target. Well, it was off, way off!! I got my new glasses with the CORRECT prescription and now I have 2 pairs of glasses that I paid good money for that are useless. read more

I chose this place mainly for insurance reasons. I have never been overly impressed with eye exams and purchases, as I always feel like I'm just rushed through. I give my experience with them an A++ from my first interaction. The lady that set my appointment over the phone was pleasant and knowledgeable. The eye doctor was thorough and professional. The gentlemen that assisted with my order was just as awesome. All office staff and the eye doctor gave me a great experience. This review is for Dr. Butler only. The ladies at the optical shop were very friendly. I only went here because the reviews were so good, so I feel like it's my responsibility to TOTALLY DISAGREE. Dr. Butler was condescending and rude. On my first visit, she gave my trial contacts. They didn't feel right at first, but I figured my eyes just needed to adjust. Within a couple hours I knew both the prescription and fit was wrong, so I scheduled a followup. I threw those contacts away and switched back to glasses. At my followup, she abruptly asked where the trial contacts were and I said I threw them away. She scoffed and said I needed to bring those back (what?? why??), so I told her nobody told me that. She walked outside to make some phone call, then came back in and said "okay." Whatever. She performed the followup evaluation and came up with a new prescription, but said she didn't have trial pairs for my prescription. She said I could either pay $20 per trial contact (what?!) or just order the contacts for $60/box. So I could either pay $20 for 1 contact or $60 for 6. Obviously I just ordered the box and hoped she was competent enough to get my prescription right this time. NOPE. So since I ordered and opened the box just to find out the prescription is wrong, I couldn't return them. So instead of taking time off work to return for another followup to rude, incompetent Dr. Butler, I'm going elsewhere and paying full price since I've now already used my vision benefit for the year. AVOID. I've been wearing glasses for 20 years and contacts for 19 and have NEVER had any issue with my prescription, doctor, etc. read more

I've been using Target Optical since moving to Northern VA 4 years ago. I originally chose them because they were a preferred provider for my insurance and the proximity to my home. Over the years I have had lenses replaced in my existing frames, purchased a new set of funky fun frames for a very reasonable price and continued to order my contact lenses at this location. I even got my husband a pair of Maui Jim's here. They offer designer frames as well as their own brand so the selection is not bad at all for such a small store. If you haven't tried their cleaning wipes, you should. My sunglasses and glasses have never been so clean. The team is super friendly and helpful. They remember you on return visits. They offer professional service. I've really had great experiences here and Target Optical will continue to be my go-to for all my eye care needs. read more

Dr. Butler acted rude and unprofessional towards me. My co-pay for eye exam was 5$. Dr. Butler charged me 75$ instated stated that contact lenses fitting carry separate fees and is not covered by my insurance plan. I stated that those " details" must be explained to the patient before exam not after when it's too late. She stated that she has no way to know beforehand those " details" regarding my insurance. Honestly, I think it's not true I went to see other ophthalmologists before and they were able to tell me what is my final fee will be. I had a fantastic experience at Target Optical at Fair Lakes. Thd optometrist was very nice, quick and professional. Beth helped me sort through all the options to find the best pair of glasses for me, which took a while, considering how picky I can be. When I found a style that I liked but was too big for my face, Beth immediately went and found a smaller version for me. That's the pair I ended up choosing! I went in a couple of days before the 4th of July, so my order took a little longer than normal, but I still had my new glasses in less than a week and a half. Lisa was very helpful when I picked up my glasses and got them adjusted just right for me. She was also very patient with my squealing and jumping around. (I was very excited about my new glasses.) I was really impressed with the selection and the exceptional customer service. Lisa was wonderful with my daughter. We picked out an adorable pair of frames that came in at a lower price than my vision plan. $25.00 for children's RayBan frames! The home run was the customer service. Lisa was very knowledgable about insurance reimbursement and urged me to contact my provider about the glasses, etc. I actually later found out that the glasses were covered under medical. I have been blindly using an optical plan when the medical was more comprehensive. Would not have called but for Lisa. All around great experience! My wife and I have both been going to this location for approximately five years (i.e., this review is not based on one experience, good or bad). While I can not speak for all Target Opticals, this location is split into two divisions: the optometrist (Dr. Butler) and the opticians (i.e., sales floor). Dr. Butler has always treated my wife and I wonderfully and we get the sense that she really knows her stuff. We have never had a problem regarding our prescriptions. I have read some bad reviews regarding her personality... I understand that everyone's perceptions are different. However, I find her personality and conversation skills inviting. Also, she has great listening skills, always taking into account information/concerns about our eyes. Conversationally, she and I recently had a interesting discussion about the history of pupil dilation. While it may sound lame, it was totally fascinating! That has at least level 43 conversational skills written all over it... I never feel like I am just a "case" or "time slot" to her. Overall, her skills and personality are the main reason my wife and I keep coming back to this Target Optical. In regard to the opticians, they are always inviting and are readily available to give there opinion regarding fit/look of the glasses. They are also skillful, as any adjustment they make always seems to feel better. My only knock (and reason to give a 4 star review) on this Target Optical location is that the price of glasses is a little higher than what you would expect from a big retailer. You could definitely find glasses for cheaper elsewhere; however, you have to also visit an optometrist you trust.. and I trust Dr. Butler. read more

You have to buy their frames (2 for 1, etc.) and lenses to get a discount. They told me my lenses (no frames, mind you) would cost about $400-$500. This was my first visit. My reasoning to attend: Target Redcard, and great selection of frames. Upon going, I was greeted by a lovely lady, Lisa who helped graciously pick out a pair of frames. She was honest, and easy going -which was great, because in the past I have been to the eye doctor, and it hasn't been that great of an experience picking out frames. She also helped pick out a pair of cool sun glass frames as well. They were having a great promotion, so I felt the need to get a pair :) I would definitely come back all because of the service I received honestly. I have never taken the time to write a review before but I really needed to share my experience with target glasses. I have worn glasses my whole life. Normally I purchase my glasses from Costco and have never had a problem. I only used target because they accepted my new insurance. I paid $180 for the lenses and within a month had spots all over the lense. I took them back and they replaced them. She explained to make sure to only use the cloth to clean them. I have used only the cloth and sometimes my shirt and a year later I can barely see threw the lense with all the spots. I have used the special no glare lense for years and have never had this problem before. I had a great experience with the employees but the quality of the lenses are terrible or I'm just super unlucky and received two pairs of faulty material lenses?? I will definitely ditch the insurance and go back to Costco. read more

Let me tell you I was there for a while. I am a picky girl what can I say? Please don't waste your time or energy by going to this location. We arrived 15 minutes early to our appointment. Only to be told we do not have insurance coverage. Which we do. After an hour on the phone with the insurance company we magically had coverage, then the doctor proceeded to rush us through because she has another appointment. We proceed to purchase glasses only to find out my son's insurance benefits mysteriously disappeared again. Now keep in my we are a family of 6 with FULL vision insurance coverage. They could find all of our family members had coverage for exam and materials except my son, yet the would not work with the family. I was in need of new glasses and came to Yelp for help. I initially thought of the eye glass places we see on TV commercials but the Yelpers on here educated me about the poor service provided by those establishments in the Fairfax area--Thanks Yelpers!!! 16 of these fine Yelpers also informed me of an optical place I would never have thought of--Target. The Yelpers had almost all positive information about Target Optical so I decided to give it a try by going there today--just to look. I found the business to be super clean, attractive, and modern with a great selection of stylish frames from many well known designers. What I really liked is the selection was good but not overwhelming with too much. While looking at the frames, I saw a sign saying 50% off on lens with frame purchase--now they got me hooked and my plan to go there "just to look" was altered to "cannot leave without." In less then 30 minutes I found some perfect Oakley brand frames. They won't make me look like a runway model without some alcohol consumption but they look good and fit great. I took the frames to the associate and she was very experienced in helping me get them sized properly and ordered with very high quality transition and progressive lens at half the price! The half price deal saved me $250.00--what a deal! My wife will be due for new glasses soon and we will certainly return to Target Optical for them. read more

I have been to opticians from one-hour mall chains to over-priced Park Avenue boutiques in Manhattan, but I have never had a better experience than this! After reading some very positive reviews, I decided to stop in and have a look around. The reviews were right. The service is phenomenal, friendly and caring, the optician was warm and delightful, the selection was so good that I bought 3 pairs, and Lisa found me insurance coverage that I didn't know I had saving me hundreds.
