I've been going to Ashburn Vision Source for several years, and while the doctors themselves are competent, thorough, and genuinely good at what they do, the front-of-house experience is consistently disappointing. The front-of-house (front desk and the folks that fit your glasses) are often very young, unprofessional, and not well-informed about eyewear or basic customer service. They struggle to answer questions clearly, offer poor or incorrect advice, and overall seem unsure of how to communicate with patients. For anyone getting glasses for the first time or navigating more complex vision needs, this can quickly become a frustrating and stressful experience. You truly need to do your own research ahead of time and know exactly what you're looking for before you walk in--otherwise you may end up in a nightmare scenario. Scheduling appointments is another challenge. Every phone call feels like an inconvenience to them; the tone is unhelpful, rushed, and sometimes even dismissive. There's often audible sighing or irritation when trying to find an appointment time that works. It's clear they don't want to be there, and unfortunately it shows in the service. The only reason I continue to return is because this is the closest location covered by my insurance. If proximity or insurance coverage isn't an issue for you, I would strongly recommend choosing a different provider. The doctors are excellent, but the overall experience is significantly downgraded by the front desk staff. read more

We have been seeing Dr. Hinkle since 2009 and have recommended him numerous times over the years. Unfortunately, as Ashburn Vision has grown, the level of customer service has not kept pace. It has become extremely difficult to schedule appointments with Dr. Hinkle or Dr. Boyle. After waiting weeks, we've arrived for appointments only to be told they were canceled without notice. Additionally, the front office staff is often rude and make simple questions feel like an inconvenience. The newer staff responsible for fitting glasses also do not seem to take the time to properly ensure a correct fit. This has been very disappointing given the level of care we experienced in the past. Unfortunately, today was the tipping point and we will not be back. read more

Ive been going here for years cause I love doctor tran but she's booked out for months! I waited MONTHS to get an appointment. I got there and was told I had to reschedule because I missed my "seating time". NO ONE told me I had to get there 15 minutes early. They have all of my information, I've been coming in at my appointment time every time I've gone. Staff was not understanding, I now have to wait another month. Ashburn Vision Source has been a game-changer for me. My first appointment was in 2023 with Dr. Tran for a normal eye exam and she was great. She referred me to Dr. Hinkle because she suspected I had Dry Eye Disease. I was given a thorough Dry Eye Test and Dr. Hinkle provided me with an informative and detailed report outlining my diagnosis of Dry Eye Disease, Ocular Rosacea, and MGD. I decided to move forward with the most aggressive form of treatment he suggested, consisting of IPL, Radio Frequency and Low Level Light Therapies. I was very anxious the first day of treatment, but Dr. Hinkle and his assistant Melany put my anxiety to rest with their empathy, knowledge, expertise and skill. Loved Dr. Tran. She was fun to talk to and overall enjoyable to have as an eye doctor. My husband and I shared an appointment and we were able to be taken care of together. I had a great experience. However, the price is crazy. I'm sure that it's amazing quality but I don't need that much. I got my eye exam here and went to Costco for glasses and contacts instead. Costco was $95 for my sunglasses lenses and here they were asking for $585. That doesn't include frames. Also contacts at Costco was $64 instead of $90 a box. I will continue to go here for my eye exam though! read more

Spent more than 30 minutes trying to make an appointment on 2 separate occasions . Was cycled through their phone system in an endless loop for 10 minutes. When I finally got a human on the line she got my information and put me on hold. Eventually someone else picked up and tried to start the whole process over again. Ashburn Vision Source cuts corners and is dishonest. I have transition glasses. I noticed cracking in the lenses about a year after I bought them. But I let it go thinking I just scratched the glass. The Pandemic came and they got worse. I spoke to AVS and they said some chemical that I put on my face was causing this in my glasses. But I pointed out that this cracking was also happening on the outside of the lenses that doesn't touch my face. They refused to replace.. I went to another office for an eye appointment and new glasses, and it was confirmed to me by them, that it was ASV mistake, but also he had never seen transitions done so poorly, for fairly new glasses. People make mistakes, they could have owned up to the mistake and just said it was out of the warranty period. I would have been mad, but it's just horrible work. But they blamed me... They accused me of causing this.. That is an entire new level of dishonesty.. Why would anyone want to buy a product from a business that conducts its self in that manner. read more

Did an examination with Dr Hinkle in August 2022. After the examination, I was taken over to a specialist. On asking quest a question if my exam revealed that I needed new lenses, , she told me that she does not have time to explain things to me. They just wanted to sell me multi vision but did not want to explain things to me. I felt pressured to buy ; and eventually hit the road. Poor service and it seems to be a Sales shop rather than a Dr's shop. Update : The Drs office called and I explained. I still stand by each word and sentence which I mentioned in my original review. I went in for an eye exam a few weeks ago and was given a prescription for glasses. Unfortunately, when the glasses arrived (ordered elsewhere), it became obvious that the prescription wasn't quite right. So, I came back (you can do so within 90 days of your initial visit) and was given another exam free of charge. It was obvious to me that the doctor was going out of her way to make things right which I really appreciate. I have been a patient of Dr. Hinkle for a number of years. If I had to pick one word to describe him, he is "consistent" in the quality of care and service he provides. He is extremely professional, knowledgeable, friendly and personable. I have never felt rushed during any of my visits. He's actually very good about explaining and putting things into layman's terms. Ashburn Vision Source offers good business hours, there's plenty of parking, office is clean and modern, appointments are easy to schedule and wait time is minimal. His staff is also friendly and helpful. This year I received my new eyeglasses in a timely manner (one week) and haven't experienced any issues with the prescription so far. I didn't post a glowing reviewing back in 2018 due to issues I encountered with my eyeglasses and actually went to another optometry shop last year. I have been to a lot of eye doctors in the NOVA area, but honestly none of them compare to AVS. From the glasses selection process, to any issues after, AVS is there for you without any questions asked. You essentially get assigned a consultant at your first visit. I had the pleasure of working with Dora who was super helpful, knowledgeable, and patient in picking out my frames. Regardless of you who get, they all are super friendly and genuinely wanting to help. It's hard to find that at certain practices. I love my glasses from them. And recently, my grandma's glasses from another office were getting too loose for her. I took them to AVS and they tightened them on the spot, no questions asked. Who does that? When I first moved to the Ashburn area and was looking for an Optometrist, I was initially "sold" when I witnessed a customer walking out with a big smile on her face! That customer would be me now! AVS reception personnel always greet me - with no delay to finish whatever they're doing. I can't reach anyone even to make an appointment. I feel it's a hassle if I have to call Ashburn vision source. Today I called and was kept waiting for 10 minutes and then another 3 minutes with an automated voice saying " You are now next in line, please hold for the next representative", then I hear another automated msg " Sorry we missed your call, please call 911 if you have an emergency, otherwise please leave a detailed msg and someone will call you back ..." . It is so annoying to have our time wasted like this and not even able to make an appointment. The doctors and opticians who work here are excellent and take good care of us when we are there. But their phone service sorely needs faster response! I hope the management takes notice of this review and improves their phone service read more

Could not be more pleased with Dr. Hinkle and his tremendous staff at Ashburn Vision Source. I've been seeing him for many years, and it's been interesting to to see the growth that the practice has had. With that said, there is no drop off in service. Dr. Hinkle always takes his time with me, makes me feel like a valued customer. This week, I needed to urgently see him because I was seeing "floaters" in one eye and wanted to make sure that it was not anything more serious. Sabrina took great care of me, let me around to a half dozen machines to get pictures and measurements of my eye. She was great, answered every question and was a delight to work with. Dr, Hinkle went over all the information with me, and I felt 100% better as he explained that nothing serious was going on in my eye. He took his time, thoroughly examined my eyes, gave me a clean bill of health! Last, but definitely not least, I met with Dora. Dora has really been the foundation (IMHO) of this practice for years. Called back to exam room, no visible notice of sanitization completed before my entry. Trinity and Max helped me pick out the most adorable frames and Trinity worked with me to get the best price for the top tier progressive lenses available (I wear them on my face everyday, so this was important to me; not going to get substandard materials for cheap at Costco on this one). These are possibly the best progressives I have ever worn; highly recommend the investment! Very disappointed in Ashburn Vision Source. I have been a customer for a long time. I ordered sunglasses lens replacements on January 25. They have yet to arrive. I was told when I ordered them that it would take two weeks which is standard. Two weeks came and went and I emailed AVS and was told they would be in by the end of the week. Now it's March 5 and still no glasses. I sent two emails asking about receiving a refund. No response. I have left two messages for the Practice Director and Billing support and no response. I am simply asking for a refund on an order that was never received. read more
