The location of this restaurant isn't very obvious and probably that's why I seldom thought of visiting. And if I'm in the area I'll usually go to metro square. Anyway, looks like a lot of the customers are frequents, except us. Since it was first day of lent I couldn't eat meat so I ordered a veggie fried rice. BF ordered a sweet and sour pork rice. The portion is smaller than regular Chinese however enough to feed you if you aren't starving. The menu is pretty extensive too so if you are not vegetarian, sure you can find something you like. The veggie fried rice is pretty good, not too oily and no clamps of rice. The veggies included in the fried rice was pretty good too. Flavor wise a tad bit uneven with the salt but acceptable. I didn't try the sweet and sour pork but the pork pieces look big and chunky. Crispy crust too, per bf. The soup that comes with the combo was meh and for drinks there's an option for soy milk which is less seen at other Chinese restaurants which mostly offer coffee or milk tea. I think this is one of the top HK style cafes in terms of taste. They do their curries, black pepper, and all other sauces very well. The baked curry chicken cutlet with fried rice is really good, and they also have one of the best Guilin noodles. The service is very quick and the staff are friendly and attentive. My go-to HK style cafe. It has all dishes you'd expect at a HK cafe so nothing fancy here. But the biggest plus is that it's always consistent (hence my go-to). Food: You'll find baked rice, spaghetti, curries, and plenty of HK style drinks like lemon tea, milk tea, etc. Personally, I've grown to like their pork cutlet with rice. A hearty sized cutlet fried golden brown served with rice and some mixed veggies. It comes with tomato sauce over the rice (if you aren't a fan of sauce on rice, you can ask for the dish without it). All their meals come with a soup (usually cream soup or Chinese style soup) and a hot drink (cold drink is an extra charge). Another favourite of mines is the curry beef brisket with rice. The curry sauce isn't overwhelming and there are at least 7-8 decent sized chunks of brisket per order. Service: Fairly typical service but considering they are a smaller joint, I think they are friendlier than the larger HK cafes. Cantonese/Mandarin/English wait staff Interior: This isn't the place to bring your squad of 5+ people. Several booths line one wall and the rest of the space are filled with tables. I ordered the baked chicken in cream sauce and my GF ordered the fish in spinach and mushroom sauce of rice. The soup comes out immediately after you order and the food not long after. My baked rice was very well done. The portions were good and there mushrooms included which I love. My GF's rice was a little on the salty side but good nonetheless. If I was eating it I would of liked more rice but for her it was perfect. What really stands out about this place is the staff. This is a place where everyone does know your name. The staff are super friendly here. Overhearing the conversations the staff have with the regulars really lets you know they love coming here. It's like one big family here if you ask me. This is a little HK cafe situated in the same plaza as the T&T, so around busy times, parking may be harder to find despite the large lot. We came in at around 2pm on a sunday, and there were a few tables. We ordered two dishes that were about $10 each, and they both came with a drink and soup. They were both fairly large portions, so we left very full. Food is above average, compared to other HK cafes. There seemed to be a good variety of dishes on the menu. My go to for HK style cafe food!! Always brings me back to home in Hong Kong when I can get my Fried French Toast and Baked Fish Filet Rice with Cream Corn Sauce. Their such a family vibe restaurant, it's always so comforting to sit there and have lunch/dinner. The service is quick and food comes out instantly, piping hot! I love my HK Cafes and I have to say this is an amazing Little Hong Kong style Cafe. Located in plaza with ample parking should not be a problem which is a plus. It's a small place so at peak times I'm sure there is a wait. Menu had lots of items and specials listed on the wall. Went for the set dinner Hawaiian pork chop with rice or spaghetti when I saw it came with dinner roll, daily soup, drink and dessert for under $11 it was a no brainer and it did not disappoint so good good and everything that came out was piping-hot and tastes great. We also had steak with black pepper sauce generous portion of meat and the sauce was not that peppery just the way I like it. So to top it off dessert was not just some pudding or fruit that you might usually get it was actually fried ice cream amazing! Came today for lunch. Tiny little place. Some tables are quite close together. Very little space to wait inside. We did have to wait for about 10 minutes. Our party ended up being seated in a booth with an extra two person table pushed together with it. I had the fortune stone special chicken with rice ($8.25). According to my receipt, it was chicken with sweet soy sauce. It came with soup and a drink. Soy milk was an option, so I got that one. I got mine cold. We wondered whether I'd get an upcharge that usually comes with making drinks cold. Didn't end up paying that charge, which was nice. Had the Russian borscht as my soup option. Uneven boels. Quirky. Other than that, fairly standard soup. Chicken was juicy. Rice was a tad dry. The few really long pieces of veggie added a nice bit of color as well as veggie content. Sauce was almost like a seafood soy sauce, so slightly sweet, and had sauteed onions and garlic in it, as well as a layer of oil. Tasty with everything else on the plate. Probably one of your typical HK style cafe with all the same stuff. This place is fairly cramped and small so if you have a big group, might have to wait awhile if its busy and they usually are. The ambience is casual and loud when it's busy but if you go during downtown, it's quite relaxing with a cup of milk tea. As for the quality of the food, it's average, nothing special but would have you returning because it's safe for your mediocre taste buds and cravings when you're extremely hungry. The food came and we noticed the Hawaiian sauce pork chop is a dark teriyaki gravy sauce, when we asked if it was for another table or the kitchen made it wrong, but they claim Hawaiian sauce is like that..even though clearly it taste like my other dish, the only difference is theres a pineapple and sausage on top, and it came with rice when we asked for spaghetti. Clearly something doesn't add up. Waitress didn't apologize or even try to understand the issue. I'll just go elsewhere for my hk cafe food. At 5pm on a Monday there was no shortage of customers. The prices were really great, you can get a large meal or afternoon snack for cheap. (But I wouldn't recommend the chicken wings...they were absolutely miniscule.) I ordered grilled black pepper beef spaghetti with garlic sauce which arrived on a sizzling plate with a load of broccoli and carrots on the side. It also came with corn soup, a warm bun, a small dessert and soy milk. And if you know what cha chaan teng is, then you know most of these accompaniments can be substituted for other things. It's the food version of Choose-Your-Own-Adventure. All of this was only $12.99 and because I ended up taking half my entree home, technically you could say the meal was $6.50 :D Overall, the food was pretty good, the portions were big and you can't beat the price! read more

Good cheap breakfast that's very HK-cafe-style. I had the oatmeal with egg sandwich and ordered the HK milk tea. The tea wasn't bad; not too sweet and just dark enough for my taste. The oatmeal was really good and filling and the sandwich was simple yet satisfying. If you order a sandwich, make sure to order it toasted! It makes all the difference in texture in my opinion! Our waitress was also attentive and friendly and the rest of the restaurant offered a perfectly calm start of the morning. My mom and sister ordered the congee and noodles (one egg noodles and the other flat noodle) and they said it was alright though the noodles were a bit oily. I need to add this cafe to my rotation! I came here on a snowy weekday for lunch so despite the restaurant being a little smaller, there was no wait. I came with two other people and decided to get a lighter meal for myself in case I needed to help clear up the other dishes. I'm glad I did because they do very generous portions here. My order of french toast with peanut butter came out first. I was given a jug syrup on the side. The french toast was fluffy, golden, and had just the right amount peanut on the inside. I also got to sample one of their specials, the Hawaiian plate which was rice, hot dogs cut up like octopi, a pineapple ring, and two gigantic pieces of pork slathered in gravy. The meat was pretty tender and went really well with the gravy. I really appreciated all the different elements on the plate. I also got to play clean up on my other date's curried brisket and rice. There was no shortage of curry or brisket. The brisket pieces were also mostly meat with some of the brisket "skin" (not sure how to describe it) but with no hard, gelatinous, or inedible pieces. That's a huge win in my books. The service was also pretty good and we had our tea refilled quickly and the ladies were all friendly. Great visit! read more

A friend recommended this place to me, and I was curious enough to try it out when we went on a Gong Cha run. I had the baked fish fillet with cream corn. You have the option of having it with spaghetti or rice, and I opted for spaghetti (which is my preference for any baked dish at an HK-style cafe). My friend had a meatier version with pork, beef and mushroom sauce. The service was quick and to the point, but beware if you can't speak Cantonese as the servers aren't too fluent in English. The menu is in English, however, so you can make do with pointing at the dish you want from the menu and saying key words like 'bill', but don't expect much more than that. The food was great half way through and the portions were good. However, the food isn't exactly on the light side, so I felt a little overwhelmed with the heavy sauce and fatty slices of fish after that. Please ensure you have a lot of room or have a high tolerance for fattening foods! Also, the dishes come with a cream soup and a drink for an extra dollar. For most, it's a great deal, but the cream soup has chicken bits, so beware vegetarians. Most clients ordered iced tea as their drink, which surprised me because HK milk tea has always been the holy grail of HK-style cafes in my opinion. My friend ordered the said milk tea and I ordered coffee for that morning caffeine rush. His milk tea came almost instantly, but my coffee arrived only after I reminded the servers three times - yeah, my two cents is to stick with the milk tea or iced tea if you need a beverage immediately... Overall, this is your typical HK-style cafe with minimal service and heavy, high-calorie dishes. If you're looking for some cheap eats that isn't McDonald's, then it's worth a shot. Their HK style milk tea with condense milk 茶走is totally 'their own style' but not what it is!! 茶'走' actually means milk tea without sugar but to add sweetened condensed milk instead. I've order one and server told me there's addition 50cents which is fine. When it comes, sweetened condensed milk is separate serve but the tea (without milk at all) is in the cup. I was surprised but I tried the tea. It's black tea. I've asked the server why they serve in that way, she told me this is the original HK style. And when I add the sweetened condensed milk, there's milk flasks until u stirred for a while. First of all, I think they don't know what is 茶走. She told me theirs are the original style and I'm wrong! Then I suspected the freshness of milk. I asked to change a coffee for me instead. When I checked the bill, I asked why they still charge me 50cents and the server told me they already given me a free coffee and I need to pay for the 茶走which they have taken it away.
