    Mac and cheese missing lobster
    Doug G.

HK Cafe in the day Bar at night Nice casual ambiance, revamped from the first days of opening. Parking: Abundant parking, underground and outside Service: it was not bad but not great, our 1 server was helpful however if you ask some of the wait staff I am not even sure they know their own menu Food: mediocre at best, we ordered two apps and one main all to share Meatball slider (2/5) 2 meatball sliders with rose sauce, was lacking flavour Lobster Mac and cheese (2/5) First dish that came out was missing lobster entirely... Was missing flavor, bland and was overall not good. Comes with 2 pieces of garlic bread but not even that could save it Soft shell crab basket. (3/5) Same as above, missing flavor, it was also missing a chipotle aioli that is supposed to come with it. We couldn't finish our food, we packed it up to make it better at home. We came here cause we watched a movie and was already late, in future I'll only come back for the HK cafe food.

So apparently this resto is called Good Catch Bar & Cafe now? Interesting. It seems that they've kept the boil house menu and still use fresh seafood but they've fused the seafood with bar food. So the new menu shows pastas, salads and sizzling plates now. The wings are super underrated here for a seafood place haha. Resto still located on enterprise boulevard in the same unit. The owner is still the same as before. I don't think the seafood has gone down in quality but the price has definitely gone up with inflation. Would definitely come back in the future to try some of the fusion-y dishes (specifically in the shareables menu section). Good catch blend or cajun sauce with corn, potatoes and sausage sides really hits the spot if you order up a boil bag here.

It could be a perfect meal if served with hot soup. Hong Kong style café with more selection, fusion style of delicious bar snacks and liquor/cocktails. A. good place for hanging out

Got takeout today and service was quick and available during Xmas. Wow. Im impressed. The food was quick, 10 mins, and ready piping hot as suggested. My only complaint was they got one of the things wrong but could be simple miscommunication over the phone. Just glad they confused my original item with something else I wanted to order. Overall I would recommend if u want HK style restaurant food.

Very disappointing shrimp toast. Barely any shrimp, but a whole lot of bread and bread crumbs. Potato salad was just as bad. One visit is enough.

We've been here twice and we really like that this cafe serves both seafood and HK style dishes. You check in at the front desk by entering your cell number and name. They text you once the table is ready. We came here once during the week night and another time for brunch. It's usually pretty busy any time of the day. We ordered the chicken steak with cream sauce and pasta and the Cajun seafood rice, sliders and seafood platter for dinner during our first visit. The most recent time we ordered the beef satay French toast and pineapple bun with beef and egg. Overall the dishes are pretty good. The slider wasn't very good though. The meat was too dry, the cheese was not melted completely and the bun was somewhat hard. If you pay cash you get 10% off. Ample parking.

In past recent years, it's sort of becoming tradition for my family to feast here for birthday celebrations. It's not often we make seafood at home and at this quantity so it's a real treat for us when we eat here. Due to strict lockdowns, we nearly forgot this was our birthday thing! We only remembered the morning of lol. I also braved the latest lockdown reviews (which weren't too good) and trusted Good Catch to provide an awesome at-home family birthday dinner for us, and they did :) For 4 people, we ordered two large boil combos which came in tied up bags as you would expect when you dine-in. Ordered a side of fried oysters too because I miss them so much. We prepared our own sides and drinks at home. I ordered by phone (would've been nice if their website online ordering system worked), told them what time I expect to pick it up. They can prepare the boils in as fast as 15 min. They made our food on time and it was still steaming hot when I picked it up & when opening at the table :) Pickup was easy, in & out in about 5 min. The only bummer was that corn was unavailable for the combos, (low season for corn), so they offered to double the potatoes instead. At home, we tried to dine "Good Catch style", meaning we just ate out of our plastic bags with gloves, bibs and all (they provide). We even brought out stainless steel bowls to catch our shells. But actually, this way, all the sauce falls to the bottom and everything on top remains bland. So... ADVICE for all you at-home diners: pour your Good Catch boil onto a baking pan to make sure the sauce touches everything, and that way less digging around. It might cool down quicker but flavour is the priority, right?! We're all learning as we go ;) All in all, the food was excellent. The flavour was how we remembered it to be, (very garlicky lol). I didn't feel like quality or quantity was compromised. My family was so satisfied; we definitely stuffed ourselves that evening and we had a great time. Our next family bday is in a month's time and we'll be much better prepared to tackle our next at-home boil, professionally! lol

Great place with good vibe. Their food is great as well. This is one of the most visited cha chang teng in my list. Their rice dishes are authentic and in great portion.

I really enjoyed good catch's cafe's menu so I always wanted to give their boil a try. The prices were all pretty expensive but I guess prices have gone up for everything lately. Honestly their boil is pretty mediocre, I got the Good Catch Blend sauce at medium spicy and it was super bland. My friend got the good catch blend sauce with mild sauce and it basically taste exactly the same as mine, also very bland. Not to mention they barely give you a lot of sauce to be able to coat all your seafood and your sides. We asked for extra sauce and it was an extra $7 just for a little bowl of sauce?! We also got a Cajun seafood fried rice and not surprisingly, it was also very bland. Overall it was pretty disappointing, the only reason I would even give it stars is because of the super nice lady who brought us our food!

Nice to know the quality is still there in the food. Service is great. The big screens were showing the NBA playoffs. Great place to lounge at night. Lobster Roll ($25) lobster was really fresh tasting and had a fair amount in the roll. Chose the cold option with mayo and was great! The caesar salad was sufficient. The fries are now simply put.. different... or maybe they serve different types of fries for different dishes. Who knows? I remember their fries being inconsistent in the past. ex. the Yelp dish would use something resembling shoestring oven fries and then another dish would use something resembling deepfried costco fries. Anyway this wasn't a deal breaker. Malpeques Oysters (1.75each) and there was no minimum order. They were nice! Came with 4 different communal sauces and came in a martini glass. Cute presentation!

I love Southern Cajun seafood boil, so when I discovered Good Catch while I was in the Downtown Markham area for a movie, I just got to check it out. I've been a fan of Captain's Boil for years and so many of my observation at Good Catch would be compared against Captain's Boil. In terms of space, the restaurant definitely has a good ambiance that has a cool boat house vibe. There is also an outdoor patio space by their entrance for the warm summer days. They also have lots of seating indoors too, so big groups are certainly welcome. For the prices, it's fairly comparable to Captain's Boil, but I do find they have more special offerings on top of the seafood boil such as poke bowls, nachos, lobster rolls, and other lunch items. The combo meals are probably the best deal, because for about $30 you can get 2 lbs of seafood plus some corn and potato. I ordered a Clams + Shrimp Combo and a pound of Snow Crab Legs to share mixed in their signature Good Catch Blend (Cajun + Garlic Butter). I find the quality of the seafood to be quite good and they definitely give enough food that weight the right amount. I find the sauce to be saltier than Captain's Boil and has a more garlicy flavour. It was a lot of food for 2 people and we ended up packing some home.

Absolutely horrible service, laughable portion and overpriced! 1st, we had to ask for water to be served! 2nd, I was to flagged down a waiter multiple times for a plate to share. 3rd, for a lobster roll set that's charged $33, the roll itself is smaller than a cell phone with a size of around 5 inches. We asked the server about it they said its about the right amount of size and lobster but damn I have been to GC before the pandemic and it's definitely NOT the same size and amount of lobster as they claimed to be. It's a horrible feeling when they just lied straight to your face like that and even suggested that they could load some lettuce underneath to make it look more plumped/filled ?!!!@@

Personally, I felt like many of the dishes were elevated or fancier versions of Asian classics. The crab truffle chawanmushi was super creamy, with crab meat on top and truffle flavors. For $40...ya idk it wasn't anything crazy and I would have loved it with a bowl of rice (maybe that's me being too Chinese lol). But also I've seen other review of the chawanmushi and it seems like every time, the amount of crab on it is different. Mine didn't seem to have as much compared to the other pictures I have seen which just tell me that they have inconsistencies. It just felt like a lot to just be eating on its own. The mala cream udon was really tasty, I loved the creaminess, cheesiness, and the addition of Chinese pork and spices but it also felt like something that could be make at home. The tuna tataki came with only three pieces for $22, which felt quite small for the price. The flavors were good, but the portion was underwhelming. My favorite was probably the Basque cheesecake it had a rich, creamy texture with a slight hint of saltiness. The Korean fried chicken sliders were also great, the crispy chicken with a well-balanced sauce. For drinks, we got the Zazatar and Golden Pear, and both were really good. The Zazatar, in particular, was quite strong which I liked. While the food was enjoyable, it didn't quite feel worth the price. For this style of food, I think you could find similar options and flavors at a more reasonable price point elsewhere in Markham. Nothing of the dishes like blow me away which is why I'm saying this. The staff were very kind and attentive, which I appreciated. However, the timing of the dishes was a bit off. We received and finished the tuna, then the sliders came out, followed by the udon. Finished that and then we waited about 15-20 minutes before my main (the chawanmushi) arrived, which by that point my partner had already long finished eating. I understand that chawanmushi takes longer to prepare since it's steamed, but a heads-up or better coordination with the rest of the dishes would have been nice. Like severing the appetizers at the same time and serving the mains at the same time. Instead of having the dishes come out one by one and such a long wait between the mains. The space itself is beautiful, with an upscale vibe, great for catching up I don't regret trying it, but it's probably not somewhere I'd return to.

This was a very well seasoned patty, so juicy and a substantial sized patty of fresh not frozen beef. The bun was lightly toasted, bacon crispy, easily taking this into my top 3 fav spots for burgers! Options for sides include fries, sweet potato fries, poutine, side Caesar or garden salad or truffle fries. The Yelp event had the best sashimi. I sampled scallops, shrimp, and deep-fried shrimp heads. I also enjoyed proteins. They included New Zealand lamb, amazu chicken, and calamari. This eatery also had sushi. The torched sushi was especially excellent. I still haven't had ramen here. Someday, I will! Recently, during Lunar New Year, I was invited to my friend's place for dinner. I brought a dish. She brought a Kiu platter. It had something like thirty pieces of sashimi. It was chef's choice with the varieties. Everything was exceptionally fresh and yummy. I'm drooling reminiscing about how good the sashimi was. It was nice to know that you can still get takeout from this restaurant. I got the impression that the owners wanted more folks to enjoy the experience at their eatery. It was still special devouring amazing sashimi at my friend's place. There are individual gender-neutral washroom stalls in this eatery. Each one was wheelchair-accessible. Rarely, would you find a place that can pull off being a brunch/lunch place during the mornings and afternoons and a club and lounge by night. On a Saturday morning where I was looking for a place to grab a bite and to kill a bit of time, I realized through Yelp that Sugar Cafe Lounge is actually open by 10am. I didn't even know they open in the mornings prior to this. The vibe of this place strikes me as a modernized Chinese karaoke place. It totally reminds me of the karaoke places that I used to frequent back in the day. They have the same black and neon purple/pink colour scheme. Dice shakers were readily available and visible. The modernisation portion can be attributed to the existence of a photo booth and kildult style cartoon characters wall stickers along the walls/window. And for a "club/lounge", the servers were definitely very polite and attentive which is a stark contrast to the service that you may come to expect in early 2000s karaoke places. My feeling towards the curry katsu egg Benedict is equally complicated. I think the dish has so much potential, but currently has several flaws. Let's start on a positive note. The hollandise sauce was a fit with the curry flavour. The built in acidity also worked to tone down the sauce's heaviness. But even with the acidity, it was a pretty heavy sauce. I like the taste of the sauce, but it's just too too heavy. The egg whites for the Benedict was a bit over cooked and getting on the rubbery side, yet the yolk remained runny. Which I found odd. The katsu pork is a bit on the smallish side and the batter did not seem like the Japanese panko style batter (seemed a bit closer to HK style). The pork was under seasoned, so the taste was hugely reliant on the sauce. They clearly used some form of milk bread for the dish. It's a decently thick slice, and it didn't seem like your typical wonder bread, but the bread also added to the heaviness of the entire dish. I have no clue how the vibe is at night or how busy it gets, but my feeling towards this place is a little bit complicated.

It's a good option if you're looking for something filling without spending too much. Since this is the "special" lunch menu, it is noticeably smaller compared to their regular lunch menu, which is $28.99. You're probably looking at around five options per category at best, and some sections only had two choices. That said, the core sushi and rolls had the most variety, which worked out fine for us since that's mainly what we were there for anyway. In terms of quality, it was pretty much what you'd expect from an AYCE spot, but maybe we got lucky that day because the salmon was actually better than most places. Definitely one of the better bites of the meal. There's also a buffet-style salad and dessert table, so it was great when you just want a little bit of everything without the fear of wasting food. Overall, a solid lunch option in Markham if you're craving sushi and don't mind a smaller menu in exchange for the lower price.

The modern, chic decor sets a wonderful ambiance, and the service was immediate and welcoming. The food was spectacular from start to finish. We started with fresh, warm bread, followed by a flavorful seafood gumbo loaded with meat, and a generous portion of two lightly breaded crab cakes. For our mains, the 10oz ribeye and 8oz tenderloin were seasoned and cooked to absolute perfection--compliments to the chef! They came with a lovely side of baby potatoes and vegetables. We capped off a perfect meal with a warm pecan tart and ice cream. I highly recommend coming here. We noticed they have a pizza oven and plan to add pizza to the menu soon; we already can't wait for our next visit to try it out! Ps parking wise, the restaurant is just off a residential neighborhood and parking is free. No need to pay for any parking, just remember to read signs.

There are specials that change weekly. The interior is decorated with New Orleans memorabilia, medium lit, cozy (not large), with jazz music in the background. Service was attentive and friendly. They operated for 30 years at their old location. This location soft-opened on 2026-02-12. We came on 2026-02-25 for dinner. There were still some furnishings to complete (there were unforeseen delays). They kept the same menu offerings but it will be expanded within a month. We ordered the following: 1. Citra Terre D'Abruzzo Pinot Grigio - Italy (glass $14.95). 2. Coke. 3. Crab Cakes ($19.95). 4. New Orleans Shrimp Cocktail ($19.95). 5. Jambalaya Aranchini (weekly special). 6. Blackened Lamb Chops (weekly special). 7. New Orleans Fisherman's Plate ($39.95). 8. Pecan Pie warmed with Ice Cream ($14.95). 9. Bananas Foster ($14.95). 10. Beignet ($14.95). Every dish had an excellent presentation. We spent a lot of time taking photos and videos. What did you expect from me?! We loved all the dishes! The portions were large! There are more staff than in the previous location, allowing the service to be excellent. They tend to have many loyal and returning customers. Every table starts with freshly baked bread and butter. The bread was so fresh! The three appetizers tasted good. They each had a little kick due to creole cuisine. I loved the shrimp the most. The Blackened Lamb Chops was perfectly cooked. Each of the four pieces were very tender, accompanied by a delicious sauce. The dish had some very nicely cooked seasonal vegetables: roasted potatoes, a red pepper, string beans, a broccoli, and a carrot. This dish will be put into their regular menu in the near future. The New Orleans Fisherman's Plate is great if you want a little sampling of their seafood: Blackened Fish, Cajun Calamari, and Coconut Beer Shrimp. It also comes with rice and seasonal vegetables. The fish was so good! We brought some home for my mom and she really loved it. The Coconut Beer Shrimp was on top of a Orange Marmalade Sauce, which is really liked. The three desserts looked really good and tasted good. I loved the pecan pie the most. They can split dishes in half in the kitchen and serve them on two dishes for two people to share. The restaurant uses fresh seasonal ingredients and spices to create authentic Creole and Cajun tastes. Everything is made in-house except for bread and butter. In the near future, their bread will be made in-house too. Currently, there is only indoor dining but they are looking into the possibility of sidewalk outdoor dining. Mike Djurdjevic runs the front of the house while his wife, Mira Djurdjevic, operates the kitchen. Their son, Marko, also helps in the front of the house. There is a large pizza oven at the back of the restaurant. They will be introducing creole pizza in the near future. There is a separate large room for events, parties, etc. This room will be ready in the near future. They also do catering. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, but there is no door-open button. There is one gender-neutral washroom, which is also wheelchair accessible, and one female washroom. Thrre is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2026-037
