It's been a long time since I went here again, and the first time after they renovated the bar/restaurant. I arrived on a cold morning. Despite seated near the door, it was well insulated and I never felt cold. The seating is still bar-like, with metal chairs over something more comfortable. The menu offers both HK-style cafe dishes and western seafood-oriented dishes. Staff appears to understand limited Chinese, and they double checked what our group ordered for drinks. I decided to go for the baked seafood spaghetti with cold Dutch tea (both hot and cold drinks are at the same price!). The presentation was a bit messy but flavourful. I wish the staff gave extra plate for me to place the empty oyster and clam shell rather than pushing them to the edge of my plate. The staff never gave us any water until we asked. The good thing is, they never rushed us to pay and our group chatted for a long time. Price wise, it was excellent. Service wise, could be improved. read more

Hmmm where do I start? The waiter seemed great but clueless. He didn't really know how to take an alcoholic drink order. He didn't know the flavour differences in each of the sauces for the boil. Seems like you just have to know what you want and order it. They seemed short staffed there. Getting anyone's attention was difficult. We got a pound of the shrimp and a pound of clams. Nothing to rave about. Not amazing but not horrible. The sauce seemed one dimensional and flat. For this type of meal, I want a flavour explosion but Good Catch fell short. 3.5 STARS First time at Good catch boil house. I believe they share the same kitchen and dining space with Good catch cafe. Came after 11pm for good catch cafe, not knowing they close at 9pm, so we decided to stay to try boil house. It was pretty busy, I guess for the hockey game playoffs as the big tv screens were all hockey that night. Menu had a fair amount of items for a special price during late night. We got their fried chicken wings, fried oysters, fish balls in curry sauce, Mac and cheese and fish and chips. Chicken wings were hot and delicious, fried oysters were super tiny with a hint of fishy taste, the Mac and cheese was pretty decent and portion sizes was enough for two people and the fish and chips was crispy, but not made with haddock or cod (maybe made with basa filet), and the curry fish ball was good, but it was lukewarm when it came out. Maybe in the near future I would come back to try their seafood boil since that's what they're known for. read more

So apparently this resto is called Good Catch Bar & Cafe now? Interesting. It seems that they've kept the boil house menu and still use fresh seafood but they've fused the seafood with bar food. So the new menu shows pastas, salads and sizzling plates now. The wings are super underrated here for a seafood place haha. Resto still located on enterprise boulevard in the same unit. The owner is still the same as before. I don't think the seafood has gone down in quality but the price has definitely gone up with inflation. Would definitely come back in the future to try some of the fusion-y dishes (specifically in the shareables menu section). Good catch blend or cajun sauce with corn, potatoes and sausage sides really hits the spot if you order up a boil bag here. read more

This is my favourite seafood place in n Markham. Its pretty neat. Its a seafood sports bar! Lots of great beers on tap and seafood! Location: Warden south of 7. In the same complex as the Markham VIP movie theatre Parking: So there's a lot of parking! Its on a corner and accross both streets there's parking! Woop! Goods: It's now a hung king type cafe during the day. The congee queen group bought it. So lots of seafood and beer in the good catch part. We've been here twice and we really like that this cafe serves both seafood and HK style dishes. You check in at the front desk by entering your cell number and name. They text you once the table is ready. We came here once during the week night and another time for brunch. It's usually pretty busy any time of the day. We ordered the chicken steak with cream sauce and pasta and the Cajun seafood rice, sliders and seafood platter for dinner during our first visit. The most recent time we ordered the beef satay French toast and pineapple bun with beef and egg. Overall the dishes are pretty good. The slider wasn't very good though. The meat was too dry, the cheese was not melted completely and the bun was somewhat hard. If you pay cash you get 10% off. Ample parking. read more

In past recent years, it's sort of becoming tradition for my family to feast here for birthday celebrations. It's not often we make seafood at home and at this quantity so it's a real treat for us when we eat here. Due to strict lockdowns, we nearly forgot this was our birthday thing! We only remembered the morning of lol. I also braved the latest lockdown reviews (which weren't too good) and trusted Good Catch to provide an awesome at-home family birthday dinner for us, and they did :) For 4 people, we ordered two large boil combos which came in tied up bags as you would expect when you dine-in. Ordered a side of fried oysters too because I miss them so much. We prepared our own sides and drinks at home. I ordered by phone (would've been nice if their website online ordering system worked), told them what time I expect to pick it up. They can prepare the boils in as fast as 15 min. They made our food on time and it was still steaming hot when I picked it up & when opening at the table :) Pickup was easy, in & out in about 5 min. The only bummer was that corn was unavailable for the combos, (low season for corn), so they offered to double the potatoes instead. At home, we tried to dine "Good Catch style", meaning we just ate out of our plastic bags with gloves, bibs and all (they provide). We even brought out stainless steel bowls to catch our shells. But actually, this way, all the sauce falls to the bottom and everything on top remains bland. So... ADVICE for all you at-home diners: pour your Good Catch boil onto a baking pan to make sure the sauce touches everything, and that way less digging around. It might cool down quicker but flavour is the priority, right?! We're all learning as we go ;) All in all, the food was excellent. The flavour was how we remembered it to be, (very garlicky lol). I didn't feel like quality or quantity was compromised. My family was so satisfied; we definitely stuffed ourselves that evening and we had a great time. I really enjoyed good catch's cafe's menu so I always wanted to give their boil a try. The prices were all pretty expensive but I guess prices have gone up for everything lately. Honestly their boil is pretty mediocre, I got the Good Catch Blend sauce at medium spicy and it was super bland. My friend got the good catch blend sauce with mild sauce and it basically taste exactly the same as mine, also very bland. Not to mention they barely give you a lot of sauce to be able to coat all your seafood and your sides. We asked for extra sauce and it was an extra $7 just for a little bowl of sauce?! We also got a Cajun seafood fried rice and not surprisingly, it was also very bland. Nice to know the quality is still there in the food. Service is great. The big screens were showing the NBA playoffs. Great place to lounge at night. Lobster Roll ($25) lobster was really fresh tasting and had a fair amount in the roll. Chose the cold option with mayo and was great! The caesar salad was sufficient. The fries are now simply put.. different... or maybe they serve different types of fries for different dishes. Who knows? I remember their fries being inconsistent in the past. ex. the Yelp dish would use something resembling shoestring oven fries and then another dish would use something resembling deepfried costco fries. I have actually come here several times in the past but this one time definitely didn't meet expectations. The same lobster roll now doesn't seem to have much in it. It had in the past a mountain of lobster. The Cajun fries used to be so good they were the main event. Now they were like everyday fries. Nothing to write home about. We also ordered one of the seafood combos. Clams, shrimp with potato and corn. It didn't seem very fresh. The service was also not great. The soft shell crab sandwich also seems to have shrunk. Based on the name, i would have thought it was a seafood boil house.....not a HK cafe. But even after walking in and sitting down, i was still confused..... one side looks like a bar, and the other side looks like a kitchy cafe with lots of memorabilia from Hong Kong. Menu wise, at lunch time, was all HK cafe options with all day breakfast type options (noodles, egg sandwich and drink), or other soup noodles or baked rice dishes. Majority of our group either ordered the satay noodle all day breakfast set or the spicy pork vermicelli all daybreakfast set. Both came with egg and toast and drink. Food quantity wise was quite good. Taste wise was pretty average. The one bonus was that cold drinks are the same price as hot drinks! Also if you ask for the milk to be served on the side for the drinks, you get more coffee/tea if you know what i mean. I love Southern Cajun seafood boil, so when I discovered Good Catch while I was in the Downtown Markham area for a movie, I just got to check it out. I've been a fan of Captain's Boil for years and so many of my observation at Good Catch would be compared against Captain's Boil. In terms of space, the restaurant definitely has a good ambiance that has a cool boat house vibe. There is also an outdoor patio space by their entrance for the warm summer days. They also have lots of seating indoors too, so big groups are certainly welcome. For the prices, it's fairly comparable to Captain's Boil, but I do find they have more special offerings on top of the seafood boil such as poke bowls, nachos, lobster rolls, and other lunch items. The combo meals are probably the best deal, because for about $30 you can get 2 lbs of seafood plus some corn and potato. I ordered a Clams + Shrimp Combo and a pound of Snow Crab Legs to share mixed in their signature Good Catch Blend (Cajun + Garlic Butter). I find the quality of the seafood to be quite good and they definitely give enough food that weight the right amount. I find the sauce to be saltier than Captain's Boil and has a more garlicy flavour. It was a lot of food for 2 people and we ended up packing some home. read more

Went there during Phase 2 which allowed patios to open for dine in. The restaurant was booked with no walk ins allowed so we booked in advance for the week. Table was reserved for us upon arrival. They have great policies for preventing the spread of Covid. Hand washing station in restaurant, tables spaced in patio, even writing down contact information so they can contact you if contact tracing is needed. The food was amazing and the server was very efficient and polite as she was the only one working that night. The food came out hot and you can tell it was freshly prepared. I recommend their lobster roll or the soft crab sandwich. Had to call them and check if the transaction went through. It didn't, so they quickly put in my order. Efficient staff. Ordered pineapple bun with satay beef and scrambled eggs. Being HK born Canadian, only the satay beef was good. I wish the bun was fresh / or softer, just an avg pineapple bun. The pineapple bun on the opposite side of this plaza would have been amazing. Went in to the place and I loved the decor but once I got my food I was pretty disappointed. I got the softshell crab fried rice, clam chowder and lobster bisque. The fried rice was so oily that I felt so uncomfortable after having one bite. I understand that the soft shell crab was mixed in with the fried rice but it way too much oil in the rice. Next with lobster bisque... $9 for two pieces of lobster. The bisque smelled like lobster but the taste felt watered down. The colour seemed to be off as well... Usually lobster bisque is either a cream color or reddish but this one is green... On with the clam chowder... I saved the best for last, the chowder was not even hot! No stream was showing when it was served. I touched the bowl n it was warm so I assumed it was cooked. 5 mins into dinner the bowl was COLD compared to the other dishes... I would have given 3.5 stars as an overall score as it won't let me score .5. The overall food was mixed for me. Some dishes were top notch and some were disappointing. They master the curry dishes where it is more Chinese style. The assorted meat bowls with fried egg was very satisfying. Where I was a little disappointed was the fried calamari which tasted stale, old and tough and the fish balls which was tough and chewy as well. The tomato noodles and fried pork was ok. Not to my liking but that's just me. Overall decent experience and would go back again to try other dishes but definitely will come back for the curry dishes. read more

One of the OG in Markham for seafood experience. Good flavour combinations for their sauces, and a decent selection of seafood you can choose from. In terms of quality, I think they're pretty good, and cook wise of the protein is done well as the crustaceans are not rubbery. I do tend to get mussels and shrimp as I think theyre the most worth for the quantity! Garlic sauce is nice, and i do like the one with all of their sauces mixed. Can get spicy so for those that are afraid of spice, might want to avoid. I enjoy their rice dishes as well, even though they are a bit on the more expensive side in my opinion. A nice change from their boil bags which may be a bit boring. The fried oysters are also a nice little addition and different from the boil bags. That being said, I feel like coming here, you should get the boil bags as its what the experience is about, and I wouldnt necessarily come here for the seafood if its not in this fashion, just because I think I would rather go to a chinese restaurant for the seafood in general. I have been a long time fan of good catch for their fried chicken wings, they were the absolute best. Tonight, I ordered 12 pieces of fried chicken and truffle fries through uber eats and have never been more disappointed in my life. The second I opened the box I knew they had changed the way they made their fried chicken, there was no batter and I could tell that it was dry and over cooked. The truffle fries had 0 truffle and the tiniest trace of Parmesan cheese. The chicken wings were so salty they were inedible, I threw the entire meal out after 1 chicken wing. Here was what we ordered: Lobster Bisque ($12)- Has the lobster flavouring, but its quite thick and goopy like...Had maybe 3x small piece chunks of lobster meat in the soup... Unfortunately this one was not finished... Shrimp with Beef Scrambled Egg ($14)- The portion was good and the mix of shrimp and beef was nice as well. No compliant here...If you get their chili oil, it adds a nice little heat touch to the dish. Chicken Steak Black Peppersauce ($14)- My wife thought this dish was enjoyable as well and good portion. My friends and I usually come here for the happy hour or after a movie. There are many free parking spaces (above or underground) but it may get busy depending on the hour of day because of the Cineplex and GoodLife. The chicken wings w/ fries and deep fried oysters are usually our go to's for sharing. They are always consistent and yummy. I wasn't a huge fan of the lobster nachos- for the cost and quality, it was disappointing. I usually get vodka cranberry but there are times when the ratio of alcohol is underwhelminglg. The ambiance is casual and cozy. They also have plenty of seatings for group gatherings and I never had an issue with finding a seat but it is best to reserve with larger parties. read more

Hope you are enjoying today's small salvo of reviews. I want to wrap up my Valentine's Day 2018 reviews with the Good Catch. Which is a pretty apropos name for what we are doing on this day - trying to land the Good Catch! ;P I've been here on more than a few occasions but most of the time, it has not been packed. Which is confusing as they have a very nicely decorated place, located in the Downtown Markham Mall, conveniently set up for date nights with the VIP Theatre, and they have a great menu. Their oysters are delish and they have a good selection. Expertly shucked, these briny bivalves are so good. Their boils are excellent. Full of flavour and lots and lots of Garlic. Might want to not have too much of these during Date Night. Their menu is full of items for anyone that likes seafood - it would be hard to try them all. If you find yourself peckish after a late movie or just want some drinks, they have an excellent after 9PM happy hour menu. Lots of parking at the side of the building near this place. Don't bother with the underground - never a spot when you need one. Happy date night people! I've been here now about 4-5 times and despite it always being a busy night, I've had no trouble being seated (or even just greeted right away). The staff are very efficient to serving the tables and I guess that is also why I don't feel I'm ever waiting long for anything. Even the food arrives fairly quickly. I tend to order 1-2 bags of seafood, which they kindly pour into a dish for you so you're not struggling with the bags. I like that they will also provide gloves for those of us that have longer nails and maybe don't want seafood under there for later. I gotta say though that the main reason I come is because I'm craving their oyster sliders. The oysters are always huge and lightly fried so there's just a bit of a breading. Flavours are amazing and I could seriously eat all three sliders on my own. I think there's quite a number of similar concept restaurants popping up now and this place does a good job offering some different menu items. The one thing I did not like were their parm fries. They didn't taste that great. I don't think fries are their forte anyway so I'd stick to the sandwhiches, seafood, and sliders. read more

This place has so much potential to be awesome, but we were disappointed. The bar looks dope where there are a ton of beers on tap and you can see all the fresh oysters. Due to Covid, we had to sit on the patio. To start, my husband and I ordered a dozen east coast oysters. The oysters were delicious, but wish we had mignonette to put on them. They made us both virgin mojitos, which were very balanced. For lunch, my husband had a hot lobster roll and upgraded to truffle fries. He said the lobster roll needed a sauce and wasn't buttery enough. The fries were lack luster. The only truffle flavor was from the mayo, and it didn't even have truffles on them or oil. The fries were not crispy and had a little bit of cheese on it. I had a lobster and mussel bowl with Brussels sprouts and sausage. I had medium spice and the good boil sauce. The sauce was addicting and super tasty. I could have licked the bowl. The mussels were gigantic and chewy. I had a few and couldn't eat the rest. The lobster and Brussels were great. The sausage was not really sausage and tasted sweet. It was strange. Overall, it could have been better, but the patio wasn't crowded and it was a beautiful day. Their Cajun seafood fried rice (4/5) was pretty good and had a good amount of seafood in it. It might feel a little bland after having so much of their flavorful seafood with their sauce selections, so we ended up mixing the remaining sauce with the fried rice. Soft shell crab basket (2/5) was a really small portion, and felt like eating oil. Wings & fries (3.5) only had 2 flavors to select from, and we selected honey garlic. All of the wings had a bunch of broken bones Drink Seafood restaurant with a good amount of beer selection in Markham. It's my 3rd time back and getting a flight of beer is always a must for me, paired with my seafood. Our waitress was wonderful: cheerful, attentive and accommodating. ORDERED: - Salmon Poke Bowl with edamame, cucumber, jalapeño, (immitation) crab meat, seaweed salad, Salmon roe (I thought they're bigger in size, see pic), shallot, tangerine and corn with spicy mayo dressing. Everything thing was fresh and delicious, a beautiful harmony of flavors but pricey for the portion. - Fried Oyster Basket with Cajun fries - oysters were not fresh nor the batter crisp; but the fries were super crispy and nicely seasoned. - Latte made with Rufino coffee beans freshly ground on site. Decent coffee but the foam was too stiff. The bad thing is there's no connection with the underground garage so you still have to brave the the cold to walk to the restaurant. Good catch used to be our go to seafood boil place. Unfortunately, the quality of their food has declined significantly. We came as a group on new year's day for dinner. The restaurant was very quiet, with only 4-5 other tables. We wanted the clams, but they were out. So we ordered 3lbs of mussles and the fish and chips basket. The muscles were overpowered by the garlic. So basically it was whatever flavour we ordered + 100x garlic flavour. The fish had a very thick batter and was over fried. Overall, we felt that their quality has declined significantly. Will not return. read more

So weird as I thought I already reviewed this place, but here we go again. In comparison to other restaurants of a similar nature, I can say that I enjoyed Good Catch more because the seafood in the plastic bags is not as salty. We ordered Shrimp, Clams, Lobster Nachos, Lobster Bisque and the Soft Shell Crab Sandwich for dinner. The Lobster Nachos were good and had a fair amount of lobster bits; the pricing was reasonable. I was not a fan of the Soft Shell Crab Sandwich (seemed to be dripping oil) or the Lobster Bisque. The Lobster Bisque was good at first but needs to be consumed quickly while it's still hot. It is extremely, extremely salty once it cools down. I think that the food was nothing special and I would not return for dinner. I would like to return for lunch to try their poke bowls. read more
