One thing to note is it was after 6:00 pm and we didn't have to pay for parking. We didn't have to wait too long, we were seated promptly and our waitress came with water. Our food took a while to come out but I figured it will be fresh! It is very loud but it's dinner time and there most tables are full. I got the Cesar salad because I wasn't very hungry. It was delicious and I almost ate it all even though I wasn't very hungry. My grandson got the Cook's House burger with corn pudding and I had a bite that, it was quite tasty. After eating, we went downstairs for some ice cream and I got the super chonk flavor (malted vanilla ice cream, fudge, peanut butter, brownie pieces). Came here tonight with my mom as this is our usual spot and we enjoyed a nice early dinner, mom and daughter. At 5:30pm, the place was pretty empty but by 7pm, most tables were filled. Service is always pretty good here. Tonight, I had an Italo vibe beer (Italian style pilsner) and mom had a lemonade. For dinner, my mom had a cheeseburger with fries and I chose their fried chicken cobb salad. My mom said her burger was good, I didnt take partake in her meal. For my cobb salad, I didnt eat the fried chicken covered on top but did have the rest of the salad, which was pretty good. I think I would have substituted out the gouda cheese for blue cheese, had I been super picky. The rest of the veggies were fresh and dressing that came with it had a slight spicy kick and was a bit sweet and worked well with the salad. We were celebrating a coworker's birthday here for lunch and were given a very good server. We brought a cake and told her it was a birthday lunch. Right away she served us waters and asked for our drink orders. We started with two orders of the onion rings! She was really good at making sure we had enough sauces to go with it besides the horseradish one. I told her I like the honey mustard so she brought us that and ketchup. The birthday guy ordered the duck confit which he scarfed down. The other orders were club sandwich's, Franklin's burger and the pulled pork platter. Everything was delicious and abundant that we needed to go boxes. We debated on dessert too but with the cake we decided not to overstuff ourselves. Stopped in for an early dinner at Franklin's General Store and was pleasantly surprised by how much this spot has to offer. There's plenty of space to stretch out -- two full floors and an open kitchen concept that gives the place a relaxed, welcoming vibe. We ordered a nice variety to share: * Lamb sliders with potato wedges * Pastrami sandwich with potato wedges * Fried chicken dinner Service was cool and laid-back, which matched the casual comfort of the restaurant. I absolutely loved the lamb sliders and wedges -- flavorful, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. My dining companion couldn't stop raving about the pastrami sandwich, calling it the best he's had in a while, which is saying something! Our other companion opted for the fried chicken dinner and enjoyed it so much that they boxed up the rest because the portion was that filling. To end on a sweet note, we shared the bread pudding with butter pecan ice cream, and let me tell you -- luxurious is the only word. Warm, rich, indulgent... truly a must-try dessert. Franklin's is still one of my favorite places in Hyattsville to grab a drink and get something good to eat. They have not missed a beat, the brewery has some exciting summer beer concoctions, like their mango beer and a lemon/sprite beer, both made in-house lightly sweet and refreshing. The Farmhouse burger is still holding its weight in gold. Substantial classic burger, well put together that transports well to eat later, made with quality ingredients that will have you saying, "Now that's a burger!" I am not big on potato wedges over fries, but theirs are exceptionally buttery and flavorful. And, guess what? They are about to open their very own ice cream parlor in the back of the general store. The buildout is coming together beautifully. They also, did some rearranging, expanding their wine section to an entire room with international and domestic wine, along with local craft beer. You can even buy cans by the single, nice if you want to try something new without diving into a whole six pack. I like that Franklins is paying attention to the change in the Hyattsville community and is preparing to offer us more of what we absolutely love about them! read more

Stopped by for dinner the other day. The service was quick and friendly, and the atmosphere of the place was interesting. I started with their cocktail, the pain killer. It was strong and well mixed, I was a fan! The food was a little bit if a let down though. I ordered the Korean inspired burger (I forget the name) which came with kimchi, gochujang aoli, and chili oil. The burger was soggy on the bottom because of the juices from the patty. It just tasted like a plain burger because the fixings were all mild and lacking in flavor, so I was a bit disappointed. This review is all about the new Ice Cream shop. We were delighted by the vegan gelato! Creamiest ever! And such cool flavors! I went with Strawberry straciatella and coffee and both were delicious. Three strawberry flavor was fruity and wonderful in a creamy base with some chocolate flakes in it. The coffee was bitter in a good coffee kind of way. Could go here for a casual date night, a family dinner, business meeting, etc. Both the food and service were very good! No complaints here. This review is for the new (Oct. 2025) ICE CREAM, which opened six days ago! I read an article in the Hyattsville paper that Franklin's makes its own ice cream, so I had to go check it out. And it's really good. Some creative flavor combos, several sorbets (including the Painkiller, like the cocktail on their menu), and multiple vegan options. I had the Stacy's Mom, which is sweet cream with cherries and chocolate shavings, and then I went back to try a scoop of the Biscof, a vegan offering that tastes like those little cookies you get on airplanes. Both were delicious, creamy, and satisfying, and I'd order them again. But the surprise favorite was the Pistachio, which my partner had ordered. Usually I detest pistachio ice cream, with that cloying sweetness and artificial green color. Franklin's uses real pistachio nut butter and nuts in its blend, which makes a world of difference. They've made me a pistachio ice cream convert. Can't wait to go back and try more flavors! I'm a longtime fan of Franklin's restaurant and general store, and I love how they opened the Tiki Bar during the pandemic and have kept it open years after. read more

I've been to Franklin's a couple of times now and both times I have sat outside on the benches. Not the part with the sand however, currently labeled Franklin's quarantiki. On this occasion I came for brunch. I'll begin with the things that were kind of meh in my opinion. Friends I was with paid the bill via card and I left a cash tip. The waitress took the cash tip from me before we left the table. Maybe that's a "me" thing but wasn't a huge fan of that. Took the tip but didn't clear the table. After closing out our tab we sat at the table for a while, yet I didn't see her again asking if we wanted more water at least. Maybe it was the end of her shift. The brunch menu is limited and if you're vegetarian there's really only one option for you. If you're vegan just cancel Christmas lol... I could be wrong though. Despite all my above observations, I do like the outdoor vibes of the place. I had the Mexican scramble on this occasion and it was pretty good. I also had a couple of mimosas that I enjoyed. The mimosas seemed to have the right balance of champagne and juice. I do also like that theybrunch goes until 3. Previously I had the crab dip which was pretty good also. I was in PG County and wanted to try a new spot for brunch on my quest for the best French toast. I was initially wary because there weren't many reviews on breakfast offerings but the interior looked interesting so we went to check it out. Fora Sunday, it was moderately filled but we were immediately seated. Instead of my typical mimosa, I got a planter's punch. Initial impression was that they used a lot of ice but the mint was so fragrant and fresh. Ratio of ingredients were on point and this was a fantastic drink. French toast was just as good. I could taste each ingredient and the berries were fresh. As you can see, nothing was left behind. Great service, reasonable pricing.... I will be back if I'm back on this side of town. The only complaint I had was that they don't give butter or jam for the dry toast they provide with each brunch/breakfast dish, which is odd (yes, I asked and they said no). I'd driven past so many times over the years and finally went for dinner with a friend recently. It's located adjacent to a large, paid public parking lot. When we arrived, we were promptly seated upstairs near the bar and enjoyed some great beer along with our meal of spinach dip, buffalo wings, a fried chicken Cobb salad and cheeseburger and everything was great as was the service. Being a brewery with lots of beer options, our server was kind enough to explain and go over the beer menu and made some good suggestions for us. Apparently, Franklins was the first microbrewery in Prince Georges's County! It's definitely a laid back artsy vibe with local art displayed throughout the building. We also checked out the murals outside on the way out that made for a nice and unique experience. We will be back when the weather is nicer and the outdoor seating is open! read more

I'm Vegan and I've dined at Franklins several times on the Holy Frijoles and it was delicious. This evening, much to my Chagrin the Holy Frijoles was NOT on the menu nor was it available any longer. Apparently management was changing things up, trying something new instead. Well, in its place was a burger known as the Mondo Garbonzo! Let me tell you, when it came out I just had to ask the waitress what was "the green slushy stuff on top of the burger"? She kindly said it was mint. I told her that it looked like baby excrement! Spacious. Plenty of tables. There is a bar area with about 3 TV's, space for large groups etc. Modern style and scannable menu's as well as paper menu Our waitress was nice, but seemed a bit annoyed I ordered an 8OZ ipa. It was really small. lol. My guest had the "tall" 16 inch beer, which was something that I would have wanted instead. I have the Private IPA and it was delish We shared a Margarita pizza. Franklins is a very solid, consistent, neighborhood restaurant and brewery. I've been here many times over the last few years l, and we brought our family here over the holidays. They have a great menu, and the food stands on its own. There is a dish that fits every dietary restriction or preference, so it made for a great choice to bring our family. Being one of the few good dine-in restaurants in Hyattsville, it can get pretty busy on the weekends. If there is a wait, our table is typically ready after a few laps in the general store. The beer is good, there are some that I like and some that are just fine. The service is consistently good no matter the crowd. read more

Franklin's has revamped some of its menu offerings and seating configurations on the main floor. Also, a new tiki bar is found outside. I'm still crazy for their onion rings. They're colossal-sized; the horseradish dipping sauce that accompanies them is slammin'. The fried chicken dish is ambitious, different. First, the chicken undergoes a "sous-vide" process, then fried until crispy. It's presented on a bed of delicately prepared swiss chard. There's an interesting hot, honey sauce thing going on with it, along with a side of mashed potatoes. The ruben sammie is classic and reliable. Franklin's is well known for its microbrewery located on the 2nd floor. Their homemade beers have won some significant awards. The beer sampler priced at $9 is a good deal; 4 beers come with it. Lastly, there's a funky general store. I'm happy that this local, unique and evolving food and retail business on Route 1 has survived the pandemic. read more

I loved coming here- I hope you get to experience this place at some point in your life. Our server, Domonique, was probably one of THE best servers I've ever had. He was super knowledgeable and gave great suggestions while also being incredibly thorough & prompt. All our food came out super quick. I think the chili was my favorite part of the meal, along with the pretzel. I love onion rings, and I liked theirs (that horseradish sauce!!!), but maybe I just wasn't in the mood for them or the seasoning they pu. I liked tasting the spaghetti, which Domonique suggested we get, but I don't know if I would've wanted it to be my entire meal (very buttery, not as olive oil-y as expected). Franklin's is a classic for any Hyattsville native. As a kid, I used to always want to go because they have a store with all weird cool knickknacks you won't find anywhere else. I will say the food is inconsistent. Sometimes it's really good and other times you're disappointed. One time I ordered a pizza - my entire pizza was pretty much still raw and excessive amount of all purpose flour had been added to the bottom. I will say you can NEVER go wrong with a glorious Gloria. Their pizzas are good when they make them right - I really like the hot and spicy one. The service is okay. I actually loved how the place looked and judging by the drink menu and what I heard from my colleagues, it must be a good place to have a drink. The lamb slider was the appetizer I ordered and before even receiving my appetizer, he asked me if I was ready to order my entree. I'm use to being asked after receiving my appetizer and I usually like to gauge based off of my appetizer but wasn't sure when he would come back since he asked so soon so I proceeded to order my entree in case he disappeared for too long. Additionally, I ordered the lamb sliders and the fried catfish gumbo. The lamb sliders did not taste like authentic lamb and it was a little dryer than I would have liked. The fried catfish gumbo was actually an ok choice. I thought the gumbo was a hit, however the catfish, which was recommended to me, was a little over fried. Sooooo this little gem was a lot of fun. It's a brewery/restaurant/general store.... the food is mostly American diner type food but super good! We had the buffalo wings 9/10, large pretzel 8/10, burger 9/10, fries 10/10 but the onion rings.... OMG!!!! the onion rings were sooooo good and fresh.. the sauce portion was a bit small for the portion size of rings but our host quickly added another sauce (still a little tiny for the amount of onion rings). The portion is really big. There were 3 of us, and honestly, we were full from the two appetizers. We ate most of the meal portions at home, which held up well 3 hours later and enough for our greedy friends. The drinks were really good, too! The ambiance is eclectic and fun. This place can be for a sweet date or entire family. We spent a LOT of time in the general store, which had items from hair brushes to wine, toys to jewelry, kitchen items to costumes.
