New Haven neglects their patients! The turn over rate for employees is so high that the staff is always new and untrained. Had our mother covered in feces when we went to go visit yesterday because they neglected to take her to the bathroom in the morning. Would give it zero stars if we could. read more

A few points I would like to make to applaud New Haven Assisted Living and Memory Care and their services they have provided my dad are the following: 1. Their care for my father has been way more than I expected out of an assisted living facility. 2. The list of services is worth every penny spent. 3. Some of the services we were not receiving at another facility were in house doctors and testing. 4. Any time there was a change in my father's care it was implemented as soon as possible. There were no delays in putting in place changes in medication or care. 5. Last, but not least, is the fact that my father has a regular check in by administration and his in house doctor, which I can always count on. This check in is always followed up with communication with me as a reassurance of the level of care he receives. All in all, the level of care he receives is superb! read more

This is an unsafe living environment. There is no medical staff passing medications. The med passers are not certified and the management and administrator have changed so many times. I would NEVER recommend this to families. I know a few individuals that live here and I worry for their safety. Medications do not get passed or given to the correct person. Please reconsider placing your loved one here, it may look pretty but it is dangerous. read more

In case you don't want to read the whole thing, just know that being at New Haven almost killed my dad; the staff lacks empathy, and I would strongly recommend against putting your loved one here. Within the first 48 hours of being at New Haven, my father said he pushed his call button in the middle of the night for pain meds and no one answered. We were sure that had to be a mistake, however, he continued telling us he was at times waiting up two hours for his call button to be answered. We told the manager, Megan, and each time, her response was that her computer didn't show his call light going off so he must not be pressing it. Finally, we went and pushed it ourselves and, sure enough, she confirmed that his call button must not be working. So this whole time we thought my father must be mistaken, he wasn't, and no one was doing anything about it. Megan finally said she would have caregivers check on him more often and after a few WEEKS of it not working she said she would call the company. Ridiculous. On the very rare occasion his button would work, it could take an hour for someone to answer it. New Haven also almost ordered my father to be on a laxative and immodium at the same time - just by chance I found that out and made sure it didn't happen but was never given a straightforward explanation as to how or why. When I told Megan I was concerned about this because this made me worried about other potentially serious drug interactions being overlooked, her response was, "Like what?" I would have loved a more understanding and empathetic response. New Haven did not call me when my completely alert and oriented father started suddenly showing signs of delirium. I had to ask Megan THREE times to get a straightforward answer as to why no one called me to report his delirium. Her answer (finally) was that it didn't seem that there was anything to report. He went into the ICU in septic shock and almost died. Nothing to report. His mobility got much worse after being at New Haven. He had been making improvements in skilled nursing but declined right after moving into New Haven. The shower seat started coming out of the wall because of cheap design, which could have seriously hurt someone. It was installed with drywall anchors which are not sturdy enough to hold a seat in the wall (See photo). After we told Megan about it, when we went back, all they had done was cover it up with tile -- no new shower seat. (See photo 2) This is what happens when you have greedy ownership who don't want to pay for quality. Please make sure your loved one's shower seat is installed sturdily - I can almost guarantee it is not. We did like a few of the caregivers, but they have no control over anything. Megan & Elizabeth (the "wellness" director) skirt around every issue you have. Of course they can never admit fault in anything, even when they are negligent. They are not allowed to think for themselves. I would love to see more competence and empathy from the facility, but I understand that, unfortunately, the employee pool in Bastrop is not of the highest caliber. I would definitely not make a recommendation to choose New Haven for your loved one. It looks nice on the outside but there is some ugly stuff going on underneath. read more

We have been very happy with the New Haven facility in Bastrop. They have taken care of our loved one since Feb 2019 and do an outstanding job. What these team members do is not easy, and clearly they are managed by great leadership and love for the residents. The very few issues we have experienced at this facility were corrected immediately and were very minor. Staff is very responsive to calls and I have ALWAYS been able to get in touch with leadership if I needed them. The facilities are always clean and it feels like a true home. read more

I am on the hunt once again for a memory care facility for my step-father. Obviously this place is not for us. First I sent an email. Received no response. Called and spoke to Holly who gave me a 10am appointment on Saturday. I arrived for my appointment. No one knew I was coming or even who Holly was. Received a tour by the chef (very nice lady), but she was unable to answer my questions or even give me pricing. I left Holly a message after leaving the facility. She called me back on Monday and said there was a miscommunication and she would answer my questions now. When I tried to explain my issues from Saturday she said, "Yes, I got your voicemail. What questions do you have"? I have no desire to speak to her. I did speak to Meghan and found out it is a baseline $5500 a month for memory care, which is $1000 more than the very best places in Austin. Way too much money. Obviously this place is out to make as much profit as possible. Too bad they can't have a little professionalism while taking families for everything they have. read more

New Haven has taken care of my mom since January. Megan (administer) and staff are always quick to return my phone calls and respond to any concerns or questions that I may have about my mom's care. I was told that it may take up to 6 months before my mom may feel at home at a new facility, but mom adjusted well within a few weeks. I think that's because the staff has been wonderful and has made her feel comfortable. My siblings and I visit often and we have a lot of respect for the work that staff does taking care of the residents. Knowing mom is safe and taken care of allows me to sleep better at night. My husband passed away on June 14, 2018, at New Haven memory care, Bastrop. I have nothing but good things to say about the care, concern he received from the caregivers, LVN and administrator. Special accommodations were made for his needs. The building is clean, has a great atmosphere and feels more like a college dorm than memory care. The food is excellent; the chef grows her own vegetables to use in her meals. Snacks are available to residents. It is not as expensive as the most expensive memory care facilities in Austin, because I looked at several. Folks with dementia require lots more attention and therefore more caregivers are necessary to meet their needs. I came to feel like the caregivers, residents and their families were part of my family. Bastrop is lucky to have a facility like this. read more
