Plenty of cabinet space and drawers. The kitchen also has a large double stainless steel sink and faucet. The wall across from the kitchen has a large closet for storage and also a full size GE washing machine and dryer. The living room has plenty of room for a large recliner, a grandfather clock, a 65 inch Samsung TV and a large double door cabinet where I have my 27 inch iMac computer. Between the recliner and outside wall I also have a 36"x36" pedestal table, where I have a large hammered copper lamp with shade. The two walls forming the corner behind the recliner and grandfather clock, have two large glass windows covered by Venetian blinds. Moving through the lockable door into the bedroom there is room enough for a queen sized bed, and a three drawer cabinet with lamp. The outside wall has a large window covered with Venetian blinds. Sliding double doors lead into a closet with plenty of room for hanging shirts, and with shelves that hold baskets for socks, and underwear. Under the shelf on the right there is room for a large four drawer cabinet where I can store pajamas and a large collection of various shoes. A single sliding door leads into a spacious bathroom, complete with a shower, toilet, and lavatory. There are two spacious cabinets and drawers next to the shower. Another reason I picked this third floor apartment is that it is located next to the fire escape stairs. I never use the elevators because I like the exercise I get walking up and down the stairs. My apartment is also located at the very end of this wing of The Reserve apartment complex. Consequently I don't hear or see any of my neighbors. Thanks for your time and attention. We felt so relieved to have him in such a wonderful place. And, it is clean, has a large parking area... a very comforting and homey feel.

My mom was struggling physically/mentally and would just moan. One caregiver told her to be quiet multiple times. Another one refused to help because she had asked for too much help. One was busy on her phone and didn't bother to put my mom to bed so my mom fell asleep on her recliner. I tried to talk to the person assigned to me for staffing and she didn't answer texts/calls. I cancelled with her because the people that they were sending were so bad, that it was better to have no one. I got no answer till after the weekend and I was told that I needed to give more notice. I explained that I tried to give notice, but that person wasn't answering their phone. They sent one last person out that they claimed was their best and no one had every complained. After that person got my mom to sleep, she turned tv to the station she wanted (in room next to my mom) and then started calling friends on the phone and talking loudly over the tv. Find your own caregivers. Staffing agencies send people that couldn't get jobs on their own.

A Heartbreaking Experience at Palmer Woods Memory Care When…read moresearching for a place for a loved one to spend their later years, always take a close look at the memory care unit--whether you think you'll need it or not. Unfortunately, I learned this the hard way. My father moved into Palmer Woods in September 2024. Initially, we were impressed by the beautiful facility, special chef-prepared dinners, happy hours, and affordability within his income. However, I did not thoroughly evaluate the memory care unit, as I didn't anticipate needing it. This was a devastating mistake. On his first night at Palmer Woods, my father suffered a stroke. After an evaluation, the facility determined he needed to be placed in memory care. He entered memory care fully capable of walking and talking. By the time I moved him out, he was in a vegetative state. I firmly believe this was due to the excessive medication he was given to make him easier to manage, as he was very active and required attention. Our monthly cost jumped to $6,400, with additional charges bringing our final bill to over $7,000. At move-in, we were offered a special plan: paying $5,000 upfront (instead of $2,500) for a $400 monthly discount. I opted for this plan, a decision I deeply regret. The conditions in the memory care unit were appalling once I had the chance to really look around. I did everything for my dad and I was not doing a good job. The staff was overworked and underpaid--many openly admitted it. One evening, I was locked out of the unit, and the front desk informed me that only two caregivers were working that night for over 30 residents. A staff member even advised me to contact Hospice because my father was not receiving adequate care. Hospice confirmed my worst fears. They alerted me to extensive bruising on my father's right side, evidence of neglect and possible abuse. This led to an investigation by Health and Human Services, which found Palmer Woods guilty of abuse, neglect, and additional violations. After removing my father from their care, he has slowly regained awareness and the ability to communicate--something he was robbed of while under their supervision. I cannot express how heartbreaking it is to know that I paid so much money for my father to be drugged, neglected, and possibly physically harmed. If you are considering Palmer Woods for your loved one, I urge you to think twice and thoroughly investigate their memory care unit before making a decision. No family should have to go through what we did.

If nothing appeals, we have the option of ordering something from the "Always Available Menu" which includes such items as grilled chicken or fish, hamburgers, grilled cheese sandwich, etc. We even have vegetarian options which started in response to resident requests. There is a wide variety of activities and exercise programs to keep us busy, interested and healthy. I also appreciate having transportation provided now that I've sold my car. Our driver tries very hard to get me to all my appointments as I don't have the option to use Uber due to my use of a mobility scooter.

She gave us advise, and told us things to specifically ask for when touring facilities. The staff were warm and friendly, everyone had a smile on their face. We came at the perfect time and were able to participate in the ladies tea club. I was so surprised to see how many residents lived there that didn't appear to have dementia, that really put my mother at ease too. Some places we toured everyone seemed very far advanced, and it really scared us. My mother and I both sat in the car crying after one tour. When we left Colonial Gardens we felt good, like there is hope at the end of this dark tunnel. When the time comes, we will be back. I posted some photos so you can see how great it looks.

We visited all available facilities in our area and feel so very fortunate to have discovered Colonial Gardens. I wish that I had the know how and or/skills to get the word out about this facility because with the increase in numbers coming our way, there should be more built like them! The place has only 16 residence. It is modeled after a home of the era of the residence early life. They all have their own room and bathroom. They are given private showers. They share a nice cozy living room on one side with a large dinning room on the other. A deck and beautiful backyard are off the dinning room. There is lots of outside light shinning thru and the place is absolutely always clean. Upon entering there is always a pleasant aroma or you smell something good cooking for mealtime. We have been with them for almost one full year now. We are a very large family so my father has at least one visitor every single day so we feel comfortable that his care is consistent and good. We learned of the great difficulties of the disease from the years of home care prior to his move to Colonial. Therefore, we have great respect and deep appreciation for the folks who choose to work in this profession. Unfortunately, there is frequent turnover in the staff because the industry does not at this time, adequately compensate these professionals. We are fortunate at Colonial, because the management works hard to find folks that bring a good work ethic and a good heart with them every day. I do hope that as a society, we get this corrected soon. While I absolutely hate that my father is not at home with us, I know he is actually receiving better care than we did and or could provide him at home. He is moving thru his days at his own pace, doing what he wants to do and he is safe, content and cared for my many.
