I came to the Woodbridge location for a second opinion. I told the office that I had a release ready and that I had gotten X-rays recently, so we could just wait for my records to be sent over from my prior dentist. During the appointment, the assistant got X-rays anyway and said it would be fine. The front desk likely did not run anything through the insurance in advance, because to the surprise of no one the insurance declined to cover the x-rays. $225 for a fully preventable mistake when told to wait for records is just unacceptable. read more

I would give 1 star but the staff and doctor were kind so they made it 2. My issue is more the misleading website and maybe miscommunication with whomever scheduled my appointment. I went for a cosmetic consultation. I was told over the phone when scheduling that it's ok that I have braces. The doctor saw me and basically said I need to wait until after braces are off because my gums are swollen (which makes more sense). But if I knew that I wouldn't have scheduled. So a 15-minute consultation that couldn't even fully confirm my answer cost me $145. Mind you, their website goes on about how dentistry can be expensive so they offer "FREE smile makeover consultation". They should add "if we take your insurance!" Extremely misleading. So, I'm just annoyed and feel like I wasted money. read more

Elaine is most certainly the best dental hygienist I have ever encountered. She loves her craft, is kind, patient, personable and very knowledgeable. For her alone, I could give 5 stars! Staff is very personable. They have always been able to get me in for a visit as soon as I needed and I have never had to wait long when I come in. Dr. Plachtyna has been my primary dentist. He is knowledgeable and answered all my questions on both visits. I also had my crown re-cemented by another dentist. Unfortunately, I would have to agree with the other reviewers about fillings. I too was told that I had numerous cavities to fill; afterwards another dentist told me these teeth were totally fine. I'm starting to believe that their equipment may be out of date (and not the dentist), because the x-rays I received from the other dentist were much clearer, better quality and contained less shadowing. read more

I had a very positive experience here today. i was a bit nervous as I hadn't been for a teeth cleaning since pre-covid. Charity, my hygienist was just wonderful--kind, comforting, and incredibly good at what she does. The dentist, Dr. Devereaux, was thorough and quite professional. Easy to make an appointment and very willing to squeeze me in. They even replaced the color of a filling that had been placed by another dentist! The hygienists are all friendly and astute at finding potential areas of concern. As a physician, I felt that they made wise clinical decisions and put patient care first. I broke my front tooth this July 4th weekend and looked like a new york rangers hockey player. Not attractive. I went to the Branford office on Tuesday morning and 90 minutes later I was whole again thanks to the amazing Dr. M and Stacy. I had never met either before but they went above and beyond take me comfortable. They were professional and kind and you can not even tell where my tooth was broken. Amazing! I have major work being done and they take the time to explain each procedure while encouraging me to ask questions. Terrible experience. Came in with a deep crack and infection in a tooth, which they misdiagnosed as a cavity. Subsequently I found my way to an endodontist who diagnosed the problem. Two weeks of antibiotics later, i called and emailed the office to tell them what happened and they could not be bothered to write me back or refund my $$ for a wholly unnecessary filling on a tooth that needed a root canal. Really disappointed as this used to be a great practice. read more

I had been going here for several years. Multiple times they told me I had cavities when I had no tooth pain. Each time I would get a filling and then do exactly what they said in terms of hygiene. Again, I would go back and they would say I had another cavity. Finally, I decided to try going to a different dentist to see if I actually did have a cavity and they told me that I did not - so these guys were going to drill my teeth for no reason. All the dentists I've seen have been great, but Elaine the dental hygienist is the best. Usually I hate going to cleaning because I leave in pain, but not with her. ZERO STARS. This dental practice has provide me with the WORST overall experience I have ever had. I want to begin by stating that I visited the New Haven Dental Group--Woodbridge on the recommendation of a new work colleague. I made the appointment in June 2022 where a member of the desk staff asked for the name of my dental insurance and group number. I asked if they accepted my insurance and was told "yes we do." I was then asked to fill out the new patient forms which I did via the online form (https://app.qsidentalweb.com/PatientRegistration/PatientConsent.aspx?P=1086&O=155) . I called the next day to confirm that they had received my online submission of the forms and was told that they had not and that the online form does not really work. I was then asked to email the forms (which I had luckily downloaded a copy of before submitting) to this email address nhdgwoodbridge@42north.com. I called the next day to confirm that they had received the forms via their email account and was told no, they had not and that the email account sometimes does not work (which I can attest to because three days later I received a message in my email inbox informing me that the message was undeliverable to their email address), so I was asked to please bring in a hard copy of the forms on the day of my appointment. My July appointment arrives. I arrive at the dental office 10 min early and turn in my forms, insurance card, and id. I wait for another 15 minutes and them in ushered into an office. My hygienist was pleasant enough, Jocelyn, but did not take any real interest in what she was doing and was taking her time with her tasks (taking the x-rays took forever). Come to find out that she was leaving the practice soon for another position. Finally, the dentist, Dr. John, came in and spent somewhere between 90 and 120 seconds looking at my x-rays and teeth and declared I needed a filling and promptly left. He too seemed disinterested and lacked any type of bed-side-manner. I finally return to the reception desk to check out where I am now told that they do not accept my insurance. I reiterated that when I called I was told that they did accept my insurance and that my co-worker had the same insurance. A desk attendant then offered to look up my co-worker (HIPAA violation?) in their database--I declined this offer. The other desk attendant said she would continue to try and contact my insurance provider and would be back in touch with me. After three days, when I had not been contacted, I called to find out the status of the situation. I talked with yet another desk attendant who told me that I would be billed for the entire visit. In less that one week after my visit I did indeed receive a bill for $517.00 ($148.00 of which was for a "new patient" charge). I absolutely do not recommend this dental practice--GO ELSEWHERE. If you must go there, be sure to triple check that they accept your dental insurance BEFORE you go back with a hygienist. read more

I have been going to the New Haven Dental Group for about 30 years. They are caring and efficient. Dr. Dean Cloutier has been our family dentist for those 30 years. Elaine is a super hygienist. Recently Dr. Jane Russo gave me Invisalign braces. The whole process was amazing. I never had wire braces. It never looked like I had braces at all. I now have perfectly straight teeth! Also, kudos to Wendy, Dr. Russo's assistant. read more

I have been at this practice for almost 5 years and have had multiple bad experiences with the front desk. They have been both confrontational and rude on many occassions. I have stayed with the group because of the geographic convenience, but have just had another terrible experience that has forced me to actually leave the practice. The hygenists and dentists are generally very good, however the experience is so negatively tainted by the front desk staff that the overall satisfaction is very poor. read more

The business was recently sold to a partner who has absolutely no business acumen and a very unbusinesslike personality. I have been with this office since Dr Tiraletto had it in the 50's, my parents brought me as a child (I am now 72 years old). When I grew up I kept the practice for myself, wife and three daughters. By that time Dr. Gibson purchased the business and expanded it to what it was until he sold it. We never had a problem in all those years and visits. The practice started falling apart almost immediately after Dr. Gibson retired. I have written a prior glowing report, please disregard it. Dr Gibson very professional crew has broken up almost completely. New dentists keep coming and going as well as the desk people and the office is completely incompetent. I personally feel that if NEW HAVEN DENTAL GROUP improved 100% they would still stink. Do yourself and family a huge favor and seek a real caring professional practice and not a group interested in money only. Don't let the smooth talk fool you, you will be surprised by the underlying truth. I HAVE LEFT THIS HORRIBLE PRACTICE. read more
