Then, she didn't ask why I declined, she didn't ask whether my family has a history of radiation-associated leukemias, she didn't ask whether I was on immunosuppressive medicines that could make me more vulnerable to radiation. The dentist didn't ask me anything. She rudely told me that I shouldn't come to Lumos. The entire process felt disrespectful and dehumanizing. I would recommend against coming here.

Several dentists say I'm the funniest person they'd ever met (this is not bragging, it's a pitiful confession) until they notice I've been in the chair for hours. But with Dr. Monteiro I didn't say one funny - she was quick, professional yet friendly, painless, took time to tell me what she was doing before she did it, and used lots of cool, state-if-the-art instruments. She and her dental assistant seem to almost read each other's thoughts and things get passed back and forth while I caught up on the "Help I Wrecked My House" show. I eventually sought a second opinion, where X-rays showed the filling was not sealed properly and decay had not been fully removed. The filling had to be redone, and I later needed an emergency root canal after my bottom molar died and caused a systemic infection. I will now also need a root canal on the top molar. Neither tooth caused issues before the original fillings. I've been a patient here since childhood, but this experience has cost me over $4,000 and months of pain. I do not trust the quality of care and cannot recommend this office.

I didn't have any work done with him on this visit, but he was very friendly and informative and I felt like I was in good hands, getting the best advice on how to proceed with my dental care going forward. The front office staff are great, very friendly and professional. In fact, it was my initial phone call with Eileen that convinced me to make an appointment. We talked about my pain concerns and she told me about her own experience with the topical pain treatment that they use. She made me feel very at ease and confident about coming in. Gina is also great. After my cleaning, she told me about the Dentite plan that may save me money and help me pay for the work that I still need to have done. The only downside is that they do not accept HUSKY Insurance, which is what I have. So I will have to pay out of pocket. As a self-employed person, that's going to be really hard. I need some work done so the cost is going to set me back on other plans that I had, but I will do it because taking care of your teeth and gums is one of the most important things you can do. I proactively sent my most recent dental x-rays over prior to my appointment, although the appointment I booked was for my annual dental cleaning. At the time of my appointment I was handed forms to fill out, one of them being a "$35 Oral Cancer Screening". During my appointment the Dentist looked over my recent x-rays and proceeded to order a full mouth set of x-rays. One would think a professional practice would check with a patient's insurance carrier to see if a complete imaging procedure would be covered or confirm whether the insurance carrier will allow it for the 2026 year- NOPE. The dental assistant who performed my cleaning then asked if I'd be interested in the oral cancer screening (you'd think this would be covered under a routine dental screening- not according to this practice.) They push it as if it's their monthly special. After my appointment I headed to the front desk where the receptionist quoted me $226.40 for a treatment plan. In the treatment plan the total fee equated to $680. The "estimated insurance coverage" was $453.60. I spoke with my insurance carrier after the visit to confirm coverage. 80% of each treatment code listed would be covered and I would be responsible for paying the remaining 20%. One code was not covered in its entirety but the office did not inform me- instead I was merely handed a treatment plan with an expectation that I would pay $226.40. Fast forward to a month or so later- I received a bill from Lighthouse Dental in the amount of $310, for what you may ask? The panoramic x-rays that were done without checking my insurance coverage. I received a call from Lighthouse Dental and I asked the receptionist "if I provided my most recent x-rays prior to my visit why were additional x-rays done?" She replied "all new patients need full x-rays." I questioned why the practice didn't check my insurance coverage or contact my previous Dentist for my last full x-rays if it was needed. She then said "well on the bright side you won't have to get it done again for 5 years" EXCUSE ME? To top it off, after speaking with the receptionist I asked to speak with an office manager- who took two weeks to return my call. I refuse to pay $310 due to Lighthouse Dental's negligence. Dr. Opin charted a plan with my dentist and a surgeon and thus began a 2.5 year journey to help me smile for the first time in picture. In 2018, I returned with my 11 year old daughter and Dr. Perry and Dr. Gary (who had been a resident when I started) remembered me and made a great plan for her. Before my first daughter was done it was our youngest daughter's turn, and then before she was done my wife also became a patient. Thanks to the Drs. Opin our family have wonderful smiles, great memories, and highest recommendations for this practice. Not only are the doctors amazing but every single staff member is kind, enthusiastic and they do everything in their power to make sure the details are covered.
