Two years ago when I moved to New Haven I took to Yelp to find a dentist. I saw that Levy was within walking distance and accepted my insurance so rather than join my fiancee at the dentist she chose I picked Levy. Everything about Levy Dental Group was great! The office is beautifully decorated and the staff are all very friendly and accommodating. I cannot say enough great things about my hygienist, Amy. She was unbelievably thorough and would talk me through everything and always do everything to ensure that I was comfortable. Unfortunately I'm no longer a patient at Levy Dental Group, but that's only because I moved back to Philadelphia. If my new home wasn't 3+ hours away, you better believe I'd be making the trip because a dental office as great at Levy is hard to come by. read more

During my life, I've been exposed to a lot of radiation. I've had interventional fluoroscopy and CT scans performed multiple times. Because of this, I try to limit non-essential radiation exposure. I went to Lumos to get my teeth cleaned. The dentist told me that I needed to get an x-ray first, which I declined. Then, she didn't ask why I declined, she didn't ask whether my family has a history of radiation-associated leukemias, she didn't ask whether I was on immunosuppressive medicines that could make me more vulnerable to radiation. The dentist didn't ask me anything. She rudely told me that I shouldn't come to Lumos. The entire process felt disrespectful and dehumanizing. I would recommend against coming here. read more

A friend recommended Levy when I moved to New Haven, and overall I have been very pleased with my experience. Upfront, they told me that my insurance was technically out of network but that it could still be submitted - so they were candid from the beginning - but sadly I'll likely need to switch providers since the cost is too high for me. That being said, if you can go in network here, I'd highly recommend it. The administrative staff members are very kind and efficient. They are clear and kindly answer my questions. My main dentist has been Jessica Bogucki, who has done a great job doing my fillings quickly and efficiently. (She always gets the bite *just right*!) The dental hygienists I've had are also very kind and can maintain a pleasant conversation with me even though I mostly grunting "yes" through the cleaning (ha). read more

Be wary if she proposes unnecessary procedures other dentists have not. Be wary if she leaves you in the hands of inexperienced technicians because she will cement their bad crowns (made on her premises) into your mouth anyway, which could, as in my case, have devastating consequences. full story: Dr Bogucki told me to put a crown on a healthy tooth for cosmetic purposes. I trusted her. She did a poor job, and end up with a tooth infection and root canal. She did not even realized the infection, I had 2 ER visits with lots of anti-biotics, had to take Oxycontin for terrible pain. She wanted to do a temporary crown, but by mistake glue was heavy. She could not take it out to put the permanent glue, so chipped the crown. I ended up with a crown, the back hole for a root canal, crack in front. Was told to accept a refund and go somewhere else to fix it. I accepted. Then DR YOU WANTS TO BE ETHICAL AND CHARGE ME FOR THIS AS TEMPORARY CROWN!!!! SOMETHING I WAS PROMISED!!! ------------------------- Terrible service, Dr Bogucki provided me with wrong information which I made decision-based on. Then it turned out all was lies. Dr You did not even try to listen to my cry for help, because she was so calm and did not want to be annoyed with my misery. Dear Dr You, in case I was not as calm as you, I was the one lied to and went through all the pain, which I paid as a service! Her poor service cost me losing the root of a tooth. So let me start from the top with a brief little timeline. 1/30/18: An appointment was made for 3/8/18 (it was this far out despite many attempts at an earlier time -- a marker of a busy practice vs too few providers, probably the former) Some time prior to m appointment: Filled out the health questionnaire and insurance information online to expedite my appointment 3/8/18: I walk into the office to be told my appointment was canceled and that multiple calls were attempted (including the morning of) and that messages were left -- I received 0 calls from the practice and 0 missed messages from them (I'm pretty sure messages don't just disappear into thin air). Ironically, they had my e-mail address as well and if I was THAT impossible to reach, I imagine it would've been logical to communicate a cancellation via e-mail instead. INSTEAD I arrived at JFK via a 14 hour international flight the night before and rushed back to New Haven well in time for my appointment (despite the snow) - having cleared out my own AM schedule to make it happen. I walk in and am told that they had fewer providers since they were snowed in, which is understandable. However, what is NOT understandable is that all these attempted "calls" and "messages" never got to my phone. What is also NOT understandable is how if after "so many" failed attempts, they didn't just e-mail me. So after waiting over a month to make this appointment, filling out my paperwork AND clearing out my schedule, my appointment gets canceled AFTER I walk into the office (despite arriving prior to my appointment time). I have had several different clinical practices myself and have had different appointments for various reasons and this is one of the worst experiences I have had. I've never had a patient arrive to my practice to be turned away because I neglected to tell them the practice was closed. Simply put, they may be good in other ways, but I find the business side of the practice to be lacking. It would be detrimental to patients who come here and there are some out of the ordinary circumstances. Do yourself a favor. If you're going to be here for a while, find another practice. read more

I've been going to Levy Dental for four years now and everyone I have interacted with here from the front office staff to my fantastic hygienist Diane to my brief interactions with Dr. You (I've had the good fortune of not needing any serious dental work, so just quick check-ins each visit by the DMD) is seriously top notch. Their focus on their patients really shows, especially the woman who I spend the most time with and have developed the best relationship with, my hygienist Diane. I love Diane!!! She is like a second mother and is one of the most genuinely caring and sweetest person on the planet. I bet all of her patients share similar sentiments as me and it's really Diane's professionalism and genuine concern for the health of my gums and teeth that keep me coming back. Dr. You is really great too and like I mentioned earlier, I haven't need major dental work, but I'm confident that she'd do a fantastic job. The practice itself is very well organized and staffed, always abuzz with a ton of patients and staff tending to them. I personally love the text message reminders I get being the iPhone addicted millennial that I am. If you live/work in New Haven, this is the dentist you should be using! I was referred here by my boss here at Yale and have referred a number of colleagues here as well, all of which have had similar positive experiences. Always take negative Yelp reviews with a grain of salt, as certain individuals will only use Yelp as a soapbox to voice this displeasure with a business. Personally, I use Yelp as a way to praise and support the small businesses that do me right, and Levy Dental has done me right for the past 4 years and counting. Ever since I was a kid I had dreaded going to the dentist. When I broke a tooth as an adult, I was forced to go and get it fixed. I was recommended to Levy Dental, and I'm glad I was. I was seen by Dr. Stanley, who I believe has moved on to his own practice, and he helped alleviate my fears more than any other dentist. He actually listened to me when I told him that it takes time for the Novocaine to take effect for me, so he didn't rush me. I guess the best thing was he didn't act impatient or make me feel like I was wasting his time or being trouble. He has a great ability to make a patient feel comfortable. All the work I've had done by him hasn't given me any problems, my fixed broken tooth is still going strong. I also had my wisdom teeth removed at Levy Dental, I believe by Dr. Weiner, and that was not nearly as bad as I expected. I mean, I was having two teeth pulled from my face, so it's not going be enjoyable. But again, I wasn't rushed about the Novocaine taking its time and the extraction actually went fairly smoothly. They had me stay until I felt up to going, and even gave me some soda to help out. I must have gone completely white and they were worried about letting me leave. So, if you're worried about going to the dentist, I would recommend Levy Dental. read more

I went to Levy Dental based on reading great reviews here on Yelp, and the recommendation was a good one. Peggy did my x-rays and cleaning and she was great. A fun and relaxing atmosphere - lots of tvs, a fireplace, and I was there on one of their "dress-up" days where everyone was decked out in Christmas/Holiday garb. I'm not a kid, but in general I'm not fond of trips to the dentist, so this was a nice touch. The new digital x-rays that use less radiation and show up on the screen in front of you are very nice. Everything was explained very well. My gums are pretty sensitive to cleaning - and they were fine with putting some numbing stuff on to help with that. I have already recommended them to a few family members, and at this point have no reservations about them. As good as it gets for Dentists!! read more

Can I give more than 5 stars? Seriosuly. Let me tell you how serious I am. I have been going to Levy Dental since high school and though I now live in Atlanta, I still go. Whenever I visit my family in New Haven, I make an appointment if I need to. The front desk staff and receptionist are so friendly and helpful. The persons at check out are as well. This place is super clean and comfy and all of the equipment is top of the line and state of the art. Heck it's almost futuristic in some ways. The folks there are very gentle and are always understanding of my huge dental phobia. I would have a yuck mouth if it weren't for them because I don't know if I can go to another dentist. I've been going to Levy Dental for a long time. Walking in I feel more like a member of a big family than a patient, and every procedure is carried out at the highest level and with the latest technology. Dr. John has put together an amazing organization. A lot of the staff have been there as long as I have been attending. When I moved from New Haven to Boston I couldn't imagine finding a dentist as good. So I travel from the medical capital of the universe to New Haven every 6 ms to see Sherry, my wonderful hygienist & now long time friend, and Dr. John. At first I thought it was a little weird to go 130 miles to see the dentist, but now I am completely comfortable and happy with that decision. It helps that better Apizza than anything in Boston is across the street. The attitude is incomparable, the skill is the best, and they won't bother you with administrative nonsense. as someone who put off the dentist for far too long, i had built up quite a lot of anxiety about the process. i am so glad i ended up breaking my bad dental streak with choosing this group of people. every single interaction, from a couple of phone calls, receptionists' welcomes, assessments & dental procedures, the employees here have been incredibly friendly, welcoming, professional, helpful at explaining what to expect, gentle & put me at ease, making sure i was ok with things every step of the way & allowing me to look over the X-rays to educate me on what was needed next. the music is soothing, there is art in the ceiling tile over your head, free coffee & tea, & they gave me a little reusable gift bag along with some strong fluoride, lip balm, a water bottle, floss, a toothbrush & hand sanitizer. how sweet is that? i give them the highest recommendation i possibly can. read more

I have a bit of dentist phobia, and really detest all things dental - cleanings, fillings, the smell of dental offices (!). YUCK. That being said, I like sparkly teeth, so I drag myself in every 6 months for cleanings, and handle problems right away (the iPOD is your best friend if you need a filling - bring it!). I really like the staff here, and have always been treated very nice, and have never experienced any pain from having a filling, or getting a general cleaning. I have not had a cavity since I was eight years old prefer not to have x-rays . lToday I was told that unless I agree to x-rays I could no longer continue as a patient. Outrageous. I have been a patient of Levy Dental Group for at least 16 years - and very likely much longer. My mom and younger brother are also longtime patients. I have only the best things to say about this practice, and the excellent care and treatment provided by the dentists, hygienists, and staff alike. Every cleaning has been thorough, pleasant and comfortable - and I have always felt well taken care of, and informed about my dental health. I especially recommend Peggy as a hygienist. Every appointment with Dr. You, for fillings or anything else, has been terrific as well. I've always left Levy Dental feeling like my teeth received the very best treatment, and like I was better equipped to maintain my dental hygiene. It is heartbreaking to leave the practice. I'm only doing so because I changed insurance providers and am now out of network. I was in town visiting family and made an appointment with Dr. You at Levy Dental Group. I was so impressed with the front staff and the cleanliness in the office. I saw Dr. You for a general teeth cleaning and asked advice for TMJ treatment. She was very professional, knowledgable, had an excellent bedside manner, and provided excellent treatment. I have been very well treated at Dr. Levy's, have received excellent care and everyone is very kind. Don't see Dr. Levy if you would prefer lots of pain management, but other than that he is an excellent dentist. He's good for those who can deal with a little discomfort in exchange for less numbness. My own sadness after all these years is that Dr. Levy's other dentists never stay so I have to keep changing to a new dentist every few years which is disappointing. However they have all been quite good with perhaps one exception so I keep going back because the quality is always high. For the hygienists, I highly recommend Peggy and Sarah is particularly good with kids. Like others, I was very fond of Dr. Stanley and lament his departure. Dr. Weiner is very patient and thorough. I have had been going to Levy Dental Group ever since I moved to CT from Kansas. I found myself needing to get replacement veneers and strongly considered flying back to Kansas to get the work done to be sure the shading and shape matched the rest of my veneers. After looking into more local options, I found LDG and could not have been more impressed with the job they did; not only on the shading of the new veneers, but also the shape of them. Fast forward more than a year and they still look great and are holding strong. My hygienist, Peggy and everyone I have had the pleasure to deal with have been great and sincerely care about your dental care. Due to excellent reviews on Yelp, I switched from my old dentist to Levy group two years ago. Here is my personal experience. I have to say they are doing good in term of dental cleaning. However, they are probably your worst choice if you have periodontal disease and need to do some surgeries. I had severe bone loss at some area and saw Dr. You. she suggested me to see Dr. Weiner. When I saw Dr. Weiner, he made a quick exam and further a decision within a very short time. He wants me to do a gum surgery to recover bones in the place where I lose them. I thought I am close to fourty and it should be impossible to re-grow bones. But I guess I am not a dental expert, and maybe I should follow his suggestion. Then, I did it with nearly $2,500. After that, my nightmare came. Two days after surgery, my teeth got infected and I can't see Dr. Weiner in the next few days because he only works one day per week in this clinic. I took some antibiotics and pain pills and felt better. One week after, I saw Dr. Weiner, and he told me that this is normal and I will benefit from this surgery very soon. Unfortunately, this is not the case for my teeth most of time. I always bleed and feel pain although I may be able to tolerate it. Until recently, they said to me that no doctor can guarantee the success of a surgery and YOU SHOULD REMOVE YOUR TEETH. Moreover, I will be refund $0. I actually understand the nature of a surgery, but patients are not lab animals for testing and not only used for earning money. If a doctor can pay more attention or consider more consequence of a surgery, every patient will appreciate it. Now I decided not to play any games with them and look for a better dentist.
