I've been going here for over a decade. Front desk can be a little rough around the edges. It's gotten a little better given a lot of the forms are online and there is less interaction. The hygienists are for sure kind and attentive. Drs spend 2 -5 minutes with patients. Last visit was super shady. First, I filled out the paperwork with medical information - totally appropriate for 6 month visit. None of my information has changed. AND THEN I was told I was required to complete an identical medical survey for a private company to access medical records that sold products for sleep apnea. I was told patients could leave the office without completing it by the front desk- totally unethical- there should have a been a disclosure form available around transparency and consent. As a medical provider, I was disgusted by their ruse and will not be returning. The overall care is adequate, but administrative practices are suspect. read more

I really wouldn't recommend New Haven Dental Group. I've had multiple appointments where either the wrong dentist was scheduled or I ended up waiting over an hour past my scheduled time. On top of that, they've failed to send reminders or notifications for appointments more than once, which led to missed appointments--and then they charged me cancellation fees. The front desk staff is often rude and unhelpful, which just makes a frustrating situation worse. Even routine cleanings have been incredibly painful--unlike anything I've experienced at any other dental office. I genuinely tried to give this place a fair chance, but the constant scheduling mistakes, lack of communication, unprofessional attitude, and overall disorganization make it really hard to justify staying. Had a routine cleaning/checkup done here recently and everything went very smoothly. I called to set up an appointment and was emailed a link to fill out pre visit forms (so convenient!). The front desk and schedulers were professional and welcoming. I forgot my dental insurance card but they were easily able to look up my insurance. My hygienist was Liz - she was so kind, thorough with my dental history, and did an excellent job with the cleaning. Would definitely come back for my routine cleanings! read more

Highly urge anyone to reconsider visiting this office. While dr kern is a great dentist, the front office is completely uninterested in helping patients. The ortho disappeared without notice and now they are only available every other Wednesday. You can only see your doctor twice a month and if there is an emergency no one will contact you. I have been working with the New Haven Dental group for almost 3 yrs now and the care I have received as been top notch! The office is very clean and comfortable. I'm never too cold or too hot. The staff is friendly and welcoming! The atmosphere makes you forget you are at a dentist office! Scheduling appointments is super easy and the reminders are helpful. Dr Kern is the best dentist I have ever had! I have never felt any pain and she always explains things in terms that any patient could understand. She always asks how I am doing and remembers updates from 6 months prior. Elizabeth is the best hygienist! If I could leave 0 stars I would. They cracked my tooth during a filling and refused to fix it on their dime. Instead they sent me to a very expensive specialist who told me I needed a root canal and crown to fix my tooth. I've now spent over a thousand dollars to fix their mistake. I came in asking for a cleaning and they gave me a debridement without asking me, telling me what they were doing, or telling me how much it would cost. this is not ethical and a patient has the right to informed consent. it is bordering on illegal to do this. The hygienist was extremely rough with me the whole time and also sprayed water all over my face and shirt, and didn't adjust it even when I said something about it at which point I just said it's fine. when I canceled my appointment in person a hygienist made an ableist remark which was none of her business about why didn't I book my ride later if I was in pain? That's when I decided to switch practices. the receptionist talked openly about felony pill taking in front of patients the whole time (taking controlled substance prescriptions that don't belong to her and her boyfriend), then they sent me a bill for almost $300 even though I have full insurance coverage and had the receptionist call Liberty Dental to make sure I had enough to cover the services, and said before any services that I wouldn't be able to pay anything out of pocket and I want to make sure everything is fully covered before I have anything done, to which she made sure it was fully covered. now, I am looking at a lot of other people's reviews and seeing that they also received a bill for hundreds of dollars even though they didn't owe any money! they also charged me $25 on the bill as a late fee even though the bill was printed on the 8th of this month and I received it a day before in the mail. extortionists. they should really be closed down. My insurance company called them and they told them they quote made a mistake. read more

I see a lot of positive reviews of this dental practice and I have to agree with level of service that I received here. 5/5 for that. However I did want to share my story that I followed up on a routine cleaning and dental x-rays and was told I had 5 cavities during the visit. It is not surprising for me to have 1-2 cavities a year but 5 felt out of place. I ended up seeking a different opinion with another dentist in the New Haven area and after a second set of x-rays was told 0 cavities after a full dental exam. That same visit at New Haven Dental I was also upsold on a fluoride treatment and prescription fluoride toothpaste. While my experience with this practice has been overall professional this interaction has left me questioning of their business practices. I do understand there is a scope of practice associated with dentistry as in any medical field but I would prefer a more conservative approach for my personal dentist. read more

I hardly give out 1 star reviews but I've never had as rude as an exchange with front desk as I've had at new haven dental. They called me this morning inquiring about an appointment for the next day that was supposedly made with them 6 months ago. When I told them I do not remember making the appointment they told me that I would now have to pay a fee as I did not cancel 24-48 hours before. Several problems here: 1. Customer rep was disparaging and condescending in her tone. At one point told me 'I'm playing games' 'I'm taking up someone else's slot' 2. They set me up for a follow up 6 months away which I was unaware of and then charge you a fee for not canceling 24 hours before the supposed date. 3. There is no way to cancel an appointment outside of calling them and even then you never know if you're cancelled or not. (No texts/emails for cancellation) It's a shame the front desk is so rude and condescending because the dentists and hygienists were pretty good from what I remember. read more

I wouldn't go to New Haven Dental Group under any circumstance!!!! Let me tell you why. I have been a patient for 30 years. I went for a cleaning in the Downtown New Haven office. After checking in I was told I had no Insurance. I said it was impossible as my insurance hadn't changed. After the cleaning the Hygienist lead me like a child to the billing person. I was told to pay for the cleaning right then and there. I had no choice. I called my insurance broker to find out they were wrong about the coverage. I then called the office to get reimbursed. This goes back to late May. As of today November 27, I am still waiting , although they keep saying the check is coming. I even called my Dentist twice. No return call. He is retiring and doesn't care. They have now asked me to seek another Dentist, because I challenged them??? Needless to say this dental group is all about the money!!!!!! Right now i would call this insurance FRAUD... Run don't walk away from this Dental group !!!!!!! I am forced to give them one star to get this posted read more

About 11 months ago, I had a periodontal procedure done with Dr. Dean and her assistant Mary Ellen. They were friendly, understanding, and very skilled. They explained the procedure fully and answered all my questions. I told to them I have sensitive teeth, and they were very gentle and accommodating. I was in goods hands with them. They kept me informed and there was good communication throughout the whole process. The results were awesome and was just in time before my wedding. It's been almost a year, and I'm still amazed by the results. I strongly recommend them. read more

I needed a new dentist after moving. During my first visit, I had my teeth cleaned by Melissa. She was very thorough and very friendly. My cleaning session took about twice as long as what it'd usually take my previous dentist. My impression is that my previous dentist wasn't as careful; usually I was just in and out, which probably led to a lot more build up and cleaning this time. I could tell by the difference in cleaning technique and the amount of care between the two places. Glad I chose to come here. read more

This is a really convenient place if you live in New Haven, and everyone was very nice and friendly. However, the 30 min cleaning and a consultation (the consultation being a 1 minute inspection of my teeth by the head doctor/dentist) was $209, which seemed really steep, especially since I didn't get X-Rays. I also felt a little pressured by the staff to spend more money, on things like the X-Rays and on a $100 toothbrush. Overall, an okay place to go if you need someplace fast and convenient, but it's a little pricey for what you're getting. read more

But their charge to my insurance seems a little aggressive and now I have to figure out what was in the bill that my insurance decided not to cover. After having been here for cleanings and fillings over the past 6 months now I can say that I have been very pleased with the professionalism, standard of care, billing practices, cleanliness of offices, and convenient location. All of the people I have seen from the front office staff to the assistants are friendly, professional and competent. I'm the kind of person that must do my research before going to a dentist or hair salon. I was spoiled with GREAT dental care growing up...moving to a large dental office has been a "stereotypical" transition I would say. They are quick to drill at the smallest sign of a cavity and care is very expensive. The basic cleaning (30min) does not seem as thorough as I am used to and was done entirely by a hygenist...I was charged separately for a 2 minute (literally) visit with the doctor ($$$), and then asked to schedule a separate appointment to have a full review with the doctor ($$$). Even with insurance coverage I sometimes feel that the claims filed are very steep for the work I received. I have learned to be ready to say no to precedures that are not urgrent or seem unnneccessary. That said, the hygenists and doctors that I have had since moving to the office have always been friendly and do listen when I want to hold off on certain procedures. read more

very bad experience there. I clearly told them I just wanted to do general cleaning. They insisted on doing x-ray ignoring my request. The dental hygienist used tools to poke gum, which is a work that is supposed to be done by dentist,not hygienist. Thus time was wasted on poking and chatting. After they realized they could not persuade me into taking x-ray, they told me time ran out and they couldn't finish the cleaning completely today. That's it? I've been to New Haven dental for the last year and a half- for routine cleanings just and for a repair for a front tooth chip. I have been extremely happy with all aspects of my care. Scheduling has been extremely easy to fit into my busy schedule, they send reminders to my phone and have been courteous when I've needed to reschedule (which I can do online- no need to call!). The three dental hygienists have been superb: gentle, attentive to my requests, and have provided recommendations specific to my needs. They also are aware of my insurance and have worked around certain restraints to get what needs to be done. The doctors on have also been incredible. I've recently worked with Dr. Bhat and have been immensely pleased. He definitely knows what he's doing, spoke to my education level (yes, please, let's talk about tensile strength!), and was gentle but thorough in the repairs that have needed to be done. He also gave me his direct work email if any problems arose. All in all, highly recommend this practice! read more

I've been a patient here for 10 years. In that time, I've had 3 dentists, 2 hygienists, and been to 3 of their offices around CT. It's the best-run professional office I've ever been to. I have terrible teeth (20 fillings before I was 12 years old), and I've needed a lot of basic work (35 year old fillings replaced, a few crowns & root canals). This is the first practice where dental work didn't hurt. It's the only practice where time estimates have ALWAYS been accurate. They are incredibly accommodating to my schedule. They never upsell me on cosmetics. I'm especially grateful to the hygienists, who have slowly gotten me to floss regularly! Really I love this office's manner and that extends to the office staff, who are funny and easygoing. If you need a cleaning, I can especially recommend Liz the hygienist. read more
