This place is exceptional. How lucky the people of New Haven are to have this so close. We came here after a wine tour on the train and it was the perfect way to cap off the day. The owner is a trip, in the best way! There are signs in the shop (many signs!) but he pointed to one about putting cranberries on the pizza, to not knock it until you tried it. I got a huge pie to take some home to my husband and I got a quarter of it with cranberries--I couldn't fully commit! I tried pieces with and without the cranberries, and they're definitely interesting! They add a very unique layer of taste and texture to the pie. I really enjoyed it, but not quite as much as the regular pie (sorry!). My girlfriends got some other pizzas and calzones. The calzone I tried wowed me. All of the food is so great. As I'm writing this, I keep thinking "the staff was standout," but also that "the food was standout," but also also that "the atmosphere was standout." The atmosphere is your sassy grandparents' basement in the best way. Overall, a standout experience. I can't wait to be back! Highly recommend. read more

The owner is great. We've been coming here for years. He makes it fresh and is quite entertaining. If you need 4 or 5 pizzas make sure you call ahead an hour or two so you don't have to wait a long time. The restaurant is really charming with a lot of silly things on the wall. read more

New Haven Pizza is so much better than other pizza chain places. Yes, it costs a little more than say, Papa John's but it is totally worth it! We tried their calzone for the first time. Awesome! This is some amazing pizza...And I say that with more than an average acquaintance with the stuff, over the years, from Boston, NY, New Haven, Chicago, and the whole Italian peninsula. Greek style, brick oven, deep dish, flatbread, traditional, new American...whatever you've got, I've had more than my fair share, with opinions on it all. The herbed dough...totally nommy, whether in mini-loaf or pizza form. Love that. Love how excited the owner is about making his pies, his way. That's freaking awesome - especially given a product as perfect, mouth-feel, cheese, and toppings-wise, as his is. He 1/2 bakes pies, as well, for home finish (YAYAYAYAYAAYY!) and can take orders ahead if you want a slew of them for a party/whatnot. Keep in mind that this place takes...well..."personality" to a whole other level - if you're demanding The Hut or the Game Token (and the terrible crap that they serve), well, screw you. It's not exactly "divey" but you probably need to be prepared for a second or two of surprise when you walk in. The local music is a fun bit that takes it over the top. Call me a cranky monkey, but it makes me really happy that, although the owner is cooking in a brick oven, he doesn't call his pizza's brick-oven style (because, well, they aren't). Yay!! Went here for the first time yesterday. This place was great. Home made dough and sauce that both taste fabulous. The toppings are generous and the cheese is piled high. Doing things the way he wants instead of using someone else's stock crust and sauce really gives Blaine's pizza a taste different from your chain pizza shops and sets this restaurant apart. If you're in New Haven, Ky for any reason, stop by and you shouldn't be disappointed. Even if you're not in New Haven, make the drive and try something new and delicious. read more

After taking my 4 year old grandson on the KY Rail Museum Santa ride on Saturday at 3 pm, the folks at train depot recommended the New Haven Pizza Shoppe across the street. There was another family already seated and enjoying some delicious pizza. Blaine greeted us, let us pull tables together and took our order. He explained that was a one man show and that should make ourselves at home. He was welcoming and entertaining and went right to work on the orders. It didn't seem to take that long but we knew he made his own dough and sauce and that we were in for a real treat. By far, it was some of the best pizza I have ever had! Hard to believe that in the middle of rural America you can find pizza that was soooooo good! Looking forward to another train ride with my grandson just to have the pizza! Best pizza I've ever had in my life! and some great music talent, the guy has jam sessions with local musicians every week. He bakes his pizzas in a brick style oven and takes his time with every one. It can usually take about 30 - 40 min for a good za but it gives you time to drink in the place. Plants and old animal skulls, old music equipment and a drum set, not to mention some very cool sounds echoing from the kitchen, some old jams not dis-cluding Pink Floyd. Blaine, the owner and chief pizza maker learned his craft in Chicago. His pizza is the best in central Kentucky. His crust is just right, he doesn't skimp on sauce and is generous on toppings. Simply, the best pizza in the state of KY. Been going here since my son was 3 years old (he's 15 now) and stumbled on place when taking train rides. Awesome pizza, "different" atmosphere. In the old days, it was just him with no help, when you could raid the refrigerator for various drinks and he would estimate the total (usually much lower than the menu). These days, he has help, but still the same great pizza. Whenever we are in New Haven, we always go here. read more
