I am a former patient of Dr. Lee's and had an excellent experience with him as a patient. With my new insurance health plan, he is in network and I was excited to select him as my provider. Unfortunately, that was not to be. I encountered the rudest, most unprofessional receptionist when calling. She lacked basic manners and the words please and thank you are definitely not part of her lexicon. She was unaware of which providers are accepting new patients, lacked an understanding of how one should select a provider/make an appointment, then waited until the end of the conversation to state they do not accept patients from my zip code. Not a great front of house look for a medical practice. Will also contact MGH regarding this unpleasant experience. read more

I called to see if they're accepting new patients since this place came on the list from HPHC that they are. The lady that answered said YES we are....do you live in the North End? "No but I work in the North End"...well in that we are NOT accepting new patient. We ONLY accept new patient that reside in the North End. I have been a patient at North End Waterfront for about 7 years. I am finally making the change after being fed up for years. This place has some of the worst, least professional, and incompetent people answering the phone that I have ever seen. If you are not waiting 30 minutes for someone to pick up the phone, you are blessed. If you can schedule an appointment to see your doctor without scheduling a year in advance consider yourself blessed. Dr. McLoughlin was my doctor, not sure if I have even seen her in years because one would have to be literally dying to even get a spot on her calendar. I reached the breaking point when my appointment was canceled due to COVID in like April and I had to beg to even get a December appointment for my physical. Once we reached December, I got a call saying would it be ok it the doctor switched to a virtual appointment (like I have an option--calling me in December). The answer being heck no because I do not know about some people but I do not go for the purpose of Dr. McLoughlin putting a thermometer in my mouth or putting me on a scale; I am very capable of doing that myself! I go to get my bloodwork, testing, and you know treatments that cannot be done via facetime on an I-Phone. So, I said no and just got my physical done elsewhere. So, I called back to schedule an appointment for one year out and I still could not even get the times I would like. Like really, she is all booked for December 2021!? Really, I cannot get an appointment that is not at 3:00 PM one year out? I hate this place and would recommend one seek medical attention almost anywhere else. Being with many people shifting to a work from home model, there is no reason to go into the hectic North End unless one resides over there either. If you want to waste your time, never see your doctor, and not be able to get an appointment at a reasonable time to accommodate people you know who actually have jobs then definitely go here! The only positives I have is the friendless of the staff at the desks when you do make it into the office and the professionalism and efficiency of the blood work team upstairs. The bloodwork team has been great, I wish I could go here just for them but the drama of the rest of the office from doctors to staff does not make it worth it. read more

I'm finally done. Today Dr. Maratha McLaughlin berated me for 10 minutes like a child for "being disrespectful". The behavior in question, my audacity to disagree with her and ask questions on why my care, health and wellness seemed to not be the clinics priority. I have continued over the years to expressed concerns about the clinics continued downfall when it comes to bedside manner and prioritizing patients over money. Today Dr. McLaughlin refused to even acknowledge how frustrating it can be for a patient to be in the system and how her actions only make this worse. When I would not kowtow to her irresponsible lack of accountability and instead challenged her statement she raised her voice and berated me as if I was a kindergartner in her classroom. I am not only appalled but I am furious in the blatant unprofessional lack of bedside manner, common courtesy, empathy or even human dignity that she has for her patients. She is a danger to anyones health. It is terrifying that she can be a doctor and I feel bad for her patients who have ended up becoming noncompliant with their medical treatment simply just to avoid her like I almost did. If I was not so stubborn I probably would have been too traumatized by her behavior today that I would never want to return to the medical office. I would be lost without the services I receive at Northend Waterfront Clinic. All of the people there are professional and considerate of their patients. I feel very safe there in regard to the virus. They go over and above when it comes to protecting all patients from the Covid virus. They go out of the way to provide appts. as requested. They explain procedures in a way that are easy for the patient to understand and take measures to assure that patients are comfortable during all procedures. I take advantage of their wonderful transport system from the main campus of MGH. I highly recommend using Northend Waterfront Clinic for all of the professional services offered there. I have been a patient at NEW Health in the North End for nearly 10 years and wouldn't want to go anywhere else for my primary care. First of all, I've never had an issue getting an appointment and they also have evening appointments a couple of days a week, which is fantastic. It's so convenient for me as I live in the neighborhood and their affiliation with Mass General Brigham also makes it convenient when I have a referral to an MGH doctor, since they're also located nearby. I feel comfortable with my PCP, Dr. Martha McLoughlin, and always know she is listening at both sick visits and my annual physical. The front desk staff is also friendly. I know this place as North End Waterfront Health, so the naming convention may have switched since the facility underwent a rebranding. This is my go-to for health care. It's an extension of MGH but isn't as much like a hospital or as busy as a walk-in clinic. The doctors here are all very good and the range of services offered make it an exceptional facility. Need some birth control? Want a dental check-up? Have a mental health issue? Need an X-ray or some blood work? Need new glasses or contacts? This place can do all of it, same-day, and it takes most insurances. They even accept state insurance, so it's really affordable to get all kinds of intensive treatments here. Best of all, since everything is in one network (MGH), it's easy to coordinate care. This is a huge plus for me, having struggled with multiple doctors in the past and making sure all of them stayed up-to-date with my health care. This is a great facility and I have totally referred people to come here. The only down-side is that it's a bit of a walk from the train, but it's still really accessible. They even offer validation for parking in the nearby garage, so it's only like $1 to park downtown! read more

I've also left 4 messages stating I would like select a doctor there as my Primary Care Physician AND make an appointment. Overall I'd rate this place as effective, easy to schedule, but expensive. 1. The doctors here are generally very knowledgeable but not that caring; 2. Front desk is effective. It is great to have a full service option nearby and one that is closely connected (with doctor privileges at) with MGH. The reason I'm still a patient here is that I believe once you find a PCP you like, you should stick with her/him no matter what since it's very difficult to find one that's the right fit. So I endure the NECHC because I think Dr. Darlene Ramos is phenomenal. But the administrative staff (it's unfair to generalize, but I don't know anyone's name in order to more specifically tailor my criticism) can make you f-ing nuts. Twice they screwed up my appointments -- and getting appointments with Dr. Ramos is pretty difficult. The first time I came in for an appointment that never was, they told me they simply had no record of it. I still had the card on which they wrote the appointment date and time and when I presented it to them as proof, I was met with an "I don't know what to tell ya" shrug. The second time, I came in at my scheduled time, but was informed that I was late and thus my appointment was canceled. I was not late and I showed them the card again. It was deduced that the appointment was changed and I was just never informed of it. I'm a reasonable person. There's a lot of inconvenience I can withstand if only I'm assured of the responsible party's regret and determination to set things right. But both times I arranged to get time off work in order to keep these appointments and the receptionists did not seem to appreciate this fact and made no effort to accommodate me in a timely fashion. Since then I've had several appointments go off without a hitch, but I could do without the "you're bothering me" feeling I get from the receptionists when I come in. (And to be fair, it isn't all of them, only one or two. I've had perfectly pleasant experiences with some receptionists, but obviously it's the bad ones who stick out in my mind.) Anyway, to be clear, this rating applies only to the front desk staff. Once you get beyond them, the medical staff is first rate. I've had nothing but good experiences with the doctors and nurses at NECHC. read more

Five stars for awesome therapist Vinnie Scibelli, who I saw for the better part of four years! And five stars to the awesome admin in behavioral health, Janie. Five stars for the lovely dental hygienist who is patient with me and my lack of flossing. And to the two different dentists I've seen there - very nice. Five stars to my excellent PCP, Dr. Turnock and her nurse, Linda. They are thorough, non-judgmental and very kind and are currently gently treating my sliced fingertip. When I called on Monday morning looking for an appointment that morning for my finger, they fit me in. Cheers for not having to go to the ER! I would honestly never get to the North End if it weren't for my appointments here, and it's great literally feeling like my doctor's office is Little Italy. I love it. read more

Terrible. Think DMV workers at the absolute worst. I once had a larynx infection they (incorrectly) diagnosed as simple laryngitis. After going to MGH ER, I learned, nope - it was a full blown infection, needing steroids and antibiotics. If you live in the North End, the convenience factor is nice, but I'd recommend avoiding this miserable group of "professionals". read more

I ve been going here since 2004. In the mean time, I moved out of the North End but I would never go somewhere else. My primary care physician, Elizabeth Turnock is always so pleasant!! All their staff are very nice, helpful and polite. I haven't had one bad exerience in almost 10 years-you guys are doing a fantastic job!!! It also seems that they don't have a high turnover. I switched over to NEW HC from another community health center because I was looking for a doctor with excellent diagnostic skills, a practitioner who listens astutely and knows how to investigate and analyze thoroughly. I have found this invaluable skill set in Dr. McLoughlin. As for the front end: Customer service is a front line position, and that is never easy. Some of the staff at NEW HC are exceptional. It would be helpful if the rest learned these two skills: 1. When there is another human being standing within a 3-feet radius, you turn to acknowledge that person's presence. You do not continue to sit with your back half turned to them as you chit-chat with with a work mate as you fiddle with your nails or, worse, scroll through your cell phone. 2. If someone calls to ask for help, you do not put up unnecessary barricades just to test your own powers of control. [At one point when I was calling to set up my first appt, I found myself thwarted for no reason. One phone told me I had to wait 24-hours after changing my PCP. I knew this was not true because someone else there had told me, in an earlier phone call, the exact steps I needed to follow and to call back as soon as I completed them. It felt as if this particular phone representative really just wanted to argue, her nature was combative, because when I agreed with her and said, "OK, I'll just call back tomorrow then," she continued to repeat her nonsense shouting right through every word I said. I hung up and called back 5 minutes later so I could speak with someone else who scheduled my appointment immediately without any hassles.] Lab techs here are personable and highly skilled. Health. I'm torn on this review. Dr. Ramos is my PCP and is everything I want in a doctor! She's smart, a good listener, and makes me feel cared for. That being said, the practice is a mess. The front staff is rude and incompetent. It's a nightmare trying to talk to anyone over the phone. The waiting area is dirty. The woman who took my blood left me with a giant bruise and was rude to me throughout the blood draw. Thankfully, I'm pretty healthy, so I'll be back to see my pcp once a year and that's that. But if I had any health problems and had to frequent the doctor, I would run from this place. read more

I called this place when i was looking for a doctor as a PCP to get a referral to a surgeon, and the woman on the phone was unbelievably rude. For such a basic request, she was completely unwilling to help me, and repeated the same few words again and again "You need to build a long-term relationship with a doctor in order to ever get a referral." Wow, I guess people who are living overseas and come back to the US for a short visit are out of luck, we can't see any doctors in the US since the doctors and receptionists would rather turn us away and leave us to suffer. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. DO NOT go here. It is the most unprofessional doctor's office ever. First, the front desk is understaffed, so if you get involved with this place, every time you need to make a phone call, you will have to wait AT LEAST 20 minutes to get through. I simply went in to get a physical and some blood work done. The doctor did not even send me the full blood work up...yes, she sent me an incomplete list!! I called at least 5 times that day, waiting 20 minutes or more each time because the either the doctor was incapable of understanding that I wanted ALL my results or because the staff could not communicate that to her properly. I waited a couple of days and no results arrived. I had to call back to request them again. When I finally received them, the office did not have the decency to convert the names of the tests done into layman's terms as they had done with the incomplete list. Therefore, I was stuck online researching the names of the tests to figure out what was what. DO NOT waste your time at such an unprofessional place. I found this practice at the suggestion of a friend, whom also sees Dr. Patel. I really like her. She is pleasant, thorough and really knows her stuff. A true asset to the practice. Unlike other reviewers, I haven't had any negative experience with the front office staff. Always have been at the very least, professional/courteous, if not friendly. Have been here 3 times so far (including a physical, follow up, and sick visit) and have been seen promptly for the most part, no complaints. I like that they have X-ray and labs right in the same building. Super convenient since I have no desire to go a bunch of different places to get what I need. Haven't tried them for dental or mental health yet, but I probably will in the near future. read more

First, the good things: 1. The nurse Michael is very helpful and easy to talk to. He always takes his time with you on the phone and in person. 2. The on-call doctor that you can talk to on off hours is always very helpful, and often gets back to you very quickly. I have had to use this on many occasions! And unfortunately, that's where it ends. It's next to impossible to communicate with the people that run this place. You ask for calls back, and all you get is excuses and delay after delay. If you are looking for a new PCP I would go elsewhere, they seem to barely have room in their schedules for the patients they have. Due to a few medical conditions I have, I often will end up needing to make appointments the week of - forget it! If you have something that should be taken care of "promptly" (in other words within a few days or even a week) good luck arguing with a nurse or secretary to schedule you in! No one in the office seems to have an interest in helping, they just want you to get off their backs. read more

I made Dr. Ramos my primary care physician before ever meeting her. I LOVE her. She is so nice and helpful and willing to take the time to explain everything in detail. She wants you to ask questions and doesn't seem to judge anyone. The first time you go is really just for a consultation so I had to make another appointment for a physical. The only problem with that is that the appointment is in May because she is so busy! Her nurse, Beth, told me that she will return my calls (if I call) and really be my contact because Dr. Ramos is so busy. But I am hoping that isn't an issue. When I got here I filled out paperwork and really didn't have to wait long at all. They do seem busy but everyone is so nice. Also, the convenient North End location means that if I were to ever get sick, I wouldn't have to travel far to see my doctor. Although getting an appointment with her might be an issue... read more

When I was sick and called in the morning they said no appointments today, none tomorrow, but they could get me one the day after tomorrow. Also they took my blood pressure and did not tell me that it's borderline hypo-tension which could be causing my unexplained dizziness. I want to change my PCP to somewhere else but haven't gotten to it yet. My dissatisfaction with the center as a whole is worth putting up with for Dr. Portney who is a psychiatrist there and one of the nicest people I have ever met. read more

This place is the worst. Yes it is Conveniently located in the North end which is great to walk to, but the service is awful. Just a bunch miserable people that sit around hating work. It is the least friendly, and least helpful place you would like to call a dr. office. Not to mention you never get to see any Dr's just NP's. Dont expect them to return your calls in a timely manner or follow up with you on your appointments. I have found my primary care physician elsewhere. Mass general is easier to deal with. read more
