Name change--now it's PT Solutions, run by a private equity group which doesn't give a hoot whether you get better. NONE of the PTs lauded in the prior reviews remain. All the current PTs are relatively new and/or are leaving. They double book patients, and some of the PTs are not good at juggling two patients, so you are waiting around for attention and guidance. Don't get suckered by earlier reviews because it's not the same local owners or level of individual care. read more

I've done a fair amount of PT, and I'm really very happy with New Heights. This is not one of those high volume facilities where you get 5 minutes with a PT and spend the rest of the time in a large room with a PTA occasionally watching you (and 20 other people). I've had three sessions with my PT (Brooke), who is very careful, patient, and thorough. The rest of the staff are friendly, professional, and focused. My home exercise program is useful and realistic, and I am definitely making progress on a daily basis. read more

Marie Long is one of the best physical therapists in Portland. I've known her for 3 years since I was referred to her by my chiropractor. My chiropractor said her patients always talked about how good she was, so I wanted to try her. I've tried some physical therapists for different health reasons in the past, but I've never met a physical therapist like Marie. Marie is the most compassionate, most knowledgeable, most caring, and the most positive PT. It's been really hard for me to not get better quickly -- as fast as I expected -- from two back surgeries, back to back. Because of that, I got depressed sometimes but every time I saw Marie, she always reminded me to look at the bright side to keep me positive. Especially after my surgeon kind of gave up on me, saying he doesn't know why I'm still in pain and that there's nothing he can do. He told me to see a pain psychologist instead of seeing him anymore. I lost hope then. But Marie didn't give up on me. Instead, she always listened to my story carefully and made a new plans for me to get better. I think without her help, I would have given up a long time ago and just ended up taking lots of pain meds and having a miserable life. Now I learned so much from her. Now I am finally, slowly getting better. At last, I would strongly recommend New Heights because they are all so nice and welcoming. I have been really impressed with the staff. Marie has been very supportive and has given me good advice all the way as I recover from a knee procedure. I have been to other PT facilities, and they all seemed to have a stock approach to just about everything. For those who've read my reviews, you've heard of the Jack Russell who rules our roost, Ed. Ed is, shall we say...'spirited'. That would be the kindest way to describe his rambunctious nature. Last May (!!), while walking him (and I use this term loosely), he saw a squirrel, lunged, and took my shoulder with him. I saw stars. The pain was like nothing I've felt before, and I've felt pain...I've had 3 unmedicated labors/childbirths, so I'm not a wuss! Anyway, the truth is, I hate going to doctors & I thought my shoulder would get better in time. It didn't. It got worse. Much worse. Ironically, the man responsible for putting me back onto the Road to Health & Flexibility is also named 'Ed', here at New Heights. I cannot extol his virtues enough! He is thoughtful, puts me through my paces, listens, & has created a routine for me where I have seen huge improvement in my mobility already. YAY ED!!! I've been coming to New Heights for a few years now, for multiple issues including chronic pain and new injuries. I've seen Jodie and Gema, and both are fantastic. Jodie has helped me my lower back pain under control, and Gema helped with chronic headaches that I was having. The facility is really nice, and the are incredibly friendly. I really enjoyed my treatment at New Heights. Marie is awesome! She is thorough, patient, experienced and lovely to talk to. She helped me get my knees back into shape for running, and helped treat a pesky neuroma in my foot. She looked at me as a whole, interconnected system, found the weak spots that contributed to my problem, and led me through a great progression that got me to right where I want to be. I had a couple of sessions with Morgan to improve my running form. She had easy-to-follow instructions for what to work on, was very supportive and helped me find a much better stride and form. The clinic itself is very nice. Modern, warm, spacious, and all the people I interacted with were professional and pleasant. I heartily recommend them all. read more

After almost two years of pain through my upper trap and neck, I finally went to a PT and I'm so glad I waited until I found Marie. Not only is Marie great at what she does, she's a pleasure to talk to. She fixed the damage that resulted from a lifting injury and was made far worse by seeing a chiropractor. When Marie was on vacation I saw Jodi who was equally as patient, knowledgeable, and helpful. I cannot believe that I no longer have any pain and can continue back with to lifting as usual. I visited New Heights for nerve pain and Jodie and Liz were awesome. They were able to identify the problem and helped resolve the pain almost immediately. They also helped me with an overall issue that has been present for a long time, but didn't cause pain and guided me with exercises to help prevent any pain in the future. Donna at New Heights has kept my body in shape so I can continue to walk, hike and go to the gym. Over the years she has taught me how to maintain and take care of small aches and pains. The other thing I appreciate are the well trained, certified PT assistants who work with me at the end of each appointment. I had relentless nerve pain radiating through my scapula and arm. Diagnosed with herniated cervical disc and several spinal injections were short term relief... I was about to schedule surgery with a neurosurgeon. I found Jodie at New Heights and thank goodness!!! She immediately assessed the situation and got me on the right track to relief (so much contradictory info from chiropractor on stretching neck etc). I had instant confidence in her abilities and dedication to working with me to solve my dilemma (which was psychologically huge after being sent out the door everywhere else with a good luck, you are on your own attitude). Every visit, she was focussed with treatment and follow up. And always willing to answer questions and explain nerve tracts and muscle interaction; so helpful while I did rehab exercises. Her expertise and use of micro current resulted in complete relief and correction of some muscle imbalances in the area of the pain. Treating not just the current pain but addressing prevention in the future! Jodie is amazing and such a delight on each visit. Upbeat, engaging, patient and did I say wonderful!! New Heights is unquestionably THE finest physical therapy center I've made use of in 56 years of a highly athletic life. As I've aged a bit (56 years), the usual aches have sometimes turned into stubborn maladies, mostly focusing on my lower back. New Heights was highly recommended to me by another friend that had serous injuries from an accident, and she was right. As I said, I had suffered from rather serious lower back pain, the result of years of wear and tear (L5 and sciatica). I had gone to other establishments prior to visiting New Directions, and though they were reasonably good, the results at ND were infinitely superior. Honestly -- I was essentially CURED at New Heights. I went to about 10 sessions with Brooke Flood, and she worked very carefully and gently on my lower back. In addition, they gave me a list of simple and incredibly effective (and easy) follow-up exercises. It has worked wonderfully well. If you're a golfer, go here for sure. The establishment is clean (spotless, really), friendly, welcoming, professional, and helpful. Go to New Directions if you have PT needs. And Brooke is a miracle worker. read more

Donna Gramont, PT at New Heights rehab'd my knee after ACL surgery several years ago and now I don't even notice that I had an injury. I even went running a few weeks ago and was surprised when my knee hurt because it had been so long. When I got to the locker room to check it out the biggest surprise was that it was the wrong knee that was hurting! Donna never had me do anything that was painful or strained me during my recovery, only exercises that challenged me to get stronger. I'm giving the therapists a thumbs-up for this place, but their billing a big old thumbs-down (keep reading for that). I'm also a physical therapist, and came to Ann Porter-Hoke at the recommendation of my PTA, who had a great experience with her. Ann was wonderful! NH was outside my network, so she taught me how to engage my lower abdominals and rework my body mechanics to protect my back in just a couple of sessions--of course, I was coming with my own knowledge so I can't guarantee everyone this outcome. :D But I found Ann easy to work with and would recommend her to others! What was ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE about New Heights was their billing! The first bill was more or less on time. The second bill, according to Tammy, who I just hung up with, was originally billed on 4/28 (services rendered 4/21). For some reason, it did not get through the insurance. No one thought to go back and look at it again until OCTOBER 12!!!! At that point, they rebilled it, and it was approved 11/2. However, my insurance changed for the worse (is there any other kind?) on October 1, so their lax billing management cost me money, not a ton of money, but plenty all the same. Tammy basically said, nope, we can't do anything for you. She literally said, I have no idea what happened. No idea why we didn't follow up with that for, oh, almost six months. I asked if my insurance might have more information, and she carelessly said, nope, I doubt it. This as much as said to me that she knew their carelessness cost me money. Thanks for nothing. I highly recommend that if you choose to go here for therapy (and the therapist I saw was awesome!!!), you keep on top of the billing yourself. I should have done this, though I shouldn't have to with a well-managed business, and now I am paying for their mistakes. Put a note on your calendar to call the billing office a a month after your service, if you haven't gotten billed, just to make sure they are doing their job. read more

Jodie helped me tremendously with some chronic pain I've been struggling with for years. In my first visit she made some adjustments and gave me some gentle exercises. My exercises progressed from there in the coming visits. Jodie made me feel comfortable about asking questions even though I was a little hesitant at first and thought maybe I was overreacting to the pain I had been experiencing. She validated my feelings about the pain and worked hard to help me understand the cause and what muscles I needed to build. I had previously had a poor experience with physical therapy in a hospital setting. This is redeemed my experience for sure! These people are incredible! I have been a patient for more than a year, and the care I have received is far beyond other PT places I have been. They have treated me for sciatic pain, shoulder strain, and rehab following rotator cuff surgery. The therapists are very knowledgeable, professional, compassionate, and educate me thoroughly about my condition and progress. The instruction in the gym is very individualized, careful, and so helpful. Everyone is friendly and has fun with their job - a great atmosphere! I totally agree with the previous reviewer. Good PT services marred by terrible billing. My first visit was 5/31, and I had 8 visits over the month of June. Several times I asked about getting a progress billing, as I had no idea how much it would cost because of the mysteries of insurance deductibles...and I had no idea how much to budget. Once I stopped by the office, thinking I'd get an answer in person and I was told that they'd 'mis-billed' the insurance claim but would bill again soon. My insurer said they had no indication a billing had been made, and couldn't help me figure out what the final cost would be in the absence of a bill. Finally, on 9/7 a full 90+ days later, they've billed me. Something is not right here, either in the process or staffing...if it were my business, I'd want to be reimbursed asap. And as a patient, I want to know what's coming. If I had figured out earlier that only about 1/3 of the charges would be covered, I might have stopped at 5 or 6 visits, which is what I could comfortably afford. A progress billing would have provided me that info. read more

I ruptured a lumbar disk in early 2010, causing severe nerve pain through my back and leg. I saw four different physical therapists who either didn't help or in some cases actually worsened the pain. I eventually worked with an exercise specialist who got me through the worst of the pain, but even after 7 months of decreasing pain, I was still not recovered. Luckily for me, the exercise specialist recommended New Heights--at the same time that a friend of my underwent treatment there for a ruptured cervical disk. The double recommendation convinced me to try one more course of physical therapy--and this time the experience couldn't have been better. Donna, Sue, and the rest of the staff are exemplary. They are deeply knowledgeable (versus many myths that other PTs hold to and circulate to patients), and they see the patient as being a key partner in the recovery process. Other PTs did things TO me; the New Heights staff taught me how to understand and respond to what was happening in my body, how to carry the work they did in clinic forward when I was at home or traveling on business. I've never had a better care experience, and I can't believe now that I thought I'd live forever with residual pain, when through four months of treatment I've now gone for pain-free stretches I couldn't have imagined otherwise. Disk injuries are the slowest to heal, but I understand how to keep the healing on track on my own, and that's something no doctor, surgeon, or other PT seemed able to give. read more
