It's been a while since I went here, but I hope to go back! I went in thinking it was a convenience store because I needed to buy a cord because my phone was about to die, but I stayed for the food. They didn't have a phone charger for sale, so they let me borrow theirs! And the food? Amazing! The service? Very accommodating and the staff are so kind. There were not a lot of customers when I went, but I hope it was picked up since then! Don't listen to the negative reviews, those are all non food related gripes because the place is pretty drab and not inviting to sit. But damn the food is so good! FYI, this restaurant is now operating out of 2544 N 7th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85006, in the former location of the New India Bazaar's restaurant. We were excited when we heard that the 'restaurant had re-opened' at long last, so we decided to stop in & check things out. We found this completely new restaurant in its place, and set the bar very low at that point. The old restaurant was our go-to for centrally located, amazing, extra inexpensive Indian food served buffet style. We were informed that this restaurant had changed ownership, yet still we decided to take a chance and we were pleasantly surprised. I honestly wanted to dislike this new restaurant, particularly since the prices are double what they used to be, but I have to be realistic in this post Covid era. We decided to try our two favorite dishes from the old restaurant to compare: the chicken tikka masala and the butter chicken(Makhani). Both exceeded our expectations for several reasons. Firstly, the similarities to our old favorite dishes was surprising. Second, we now have the opportunity to choose a spice level, which was missing from the previous restaurant, as it was a buffet style. Third, there is now a consistency in portion sizing that is very pleasing - the chicken dishes are served in a 16 ounce container, which is completely filled, and the rice is in a similarly sized styrofoam to-go cup. And fourth, The staff was very friendly, which was missing from the previous restaurant. Sadly, our garlic naan as well as the veggie samosas were very different and not reminiscent of the previous restaurant, so we will not be ordering those again. All in all, some Indian food in the neighborhood is better than none - especially when it is found to still be tasty. On principle, I cannot give a five star review, but I will say that this restaurant and the chicken dishes are a solid four stars - a good alternative to the previous restaurant in the same space. We will definitely be back again. The ownership also told us that they are planning to offer a lunch special in the future, but a date has not been decided at present. No read more
