A great local spot run by a family that is in there working every day. The food is always good and there is plenty of it! All of the dishes we've tried so far have been good with crispy fresh veggies and good flavors all around. The side dishes have been great as well. The family is always friendly and ready to take your order while managing a busy flow of take-out orders on the phone and lots of customers picking up take-out. Visited on a Sunday. No lunch menu just dinner. So it was more expensive than we had anticipated. I had Happy Family. Lots of broccoli, baby corn and crab. Some chicken, pork, and very little beef and shrimp. But over all good. Husband had Moo Goo Ga pan (spelling?) with spice pepper. He said it was good. Not many vegetables though. My guy friend wanted to take me here, he eats here every week. We walked in to place a large order for take out and it was ready in ten minutes. The restaurant was clean and just like every other takie outie, they had plenty to choose from. After driving thirty minutes back the the food was still hot when we got home. The hot n sour soup had a great flavor with just the right amount of heat, my only complaint was it didn't have any tofu in it. He ordered wonton soup and egg drop soup. Both had a good flavor, I'd say four out of five stars. He also ordered potstickers and they mix their own dipping sauce....I have to say it was pretty tasty. My egg roll wasn't bad but wasn't out of this world so I'd probably give it 3.5-4 stars. The krab rangoon was good, just the right amount of sweet and not overly fishy, four stars. read more

I've been trying to find a good and reasonably priced Chinese restaurant near Lavonia. New King has pretty good food at reasonable prices. The service was quick and staff is friendly. I really enjoy their Egg Drop Wonton soup. I thought their Mongolian beef was top notch and very tasty. They are closed on Tuesdays. read more

Not sure when was the last time I've had great Americanized - Chinese food if truly ever...? Reluctant, I went and took part in a tiny feast of lo mein, chicken and broccoli, and white rice. Weasled my way around tender chicken for some nicely cooked brocoli. New Wok is so generous with its meats they even added it to my veggie lo mein. I guess this was just an order hiccup, nevertheless it wasn't bad in entirety. Props to the open kitchen and this is a first that the presentation of the entrees in their tiny boxes looked oddly aesthetically pleasing. Haha. The clerk was quiet and came off a little tired. Overall, it wasn't a bad place. My mother seems to enjoy it and suggests it a lot when she's fed up with normal S.A.D. affair and missing some rice as she doesn't seem to be a fan of the areas other Chinese restaurants. I did not enjoy their food. I had fried rice, which was oily and had an odd taste. The won ton soup was abysmal.

The lady who works the register & I 'm assuming is part owner is always friendly. She sees us pretty often as it was a spot the hubby & I ate at frequently. I love chicken lo mein but the last couple of times it has had a burnt taste. Hubby said he thinks woks need some tlc but what do we know. We use to get lunch & go eat by the lake down the street because we could eat right out of the take out boxes. Will wait a while to see if lo mein tastes bette, less burnt. Fingers crossed read more

As good as it gets most definitely in Hartwell, right up there with Little Asia in my opinion. The place is always packed most importantly for us is the taste and freshness with what is being served. They are always happy to make u happy and get the orders right, hot and sour soup is the best in 100 miles all around and we've had plenty of hot and sour soups in ATLANTA an surrounding areas. The food was almost 40.00 for 3 plates. The dishes came out separate, which meant that my family had to wait for everyone's meals to get there. All in all it was over paid and really unworthy it. I will say that the egg rolls were worth the whole 1.15 u pay. read more

With all due respect, I think John B's review is a little harsh for this place. He gave Little Asia in Hartwell 5 stars and I get that, too. It's really great food. BUT, you'll wait a lot longer for it to be prepared and you'll pay a lot more for it. I've been to both places. I've also had Asian food in places from Atlanta to San Francisco to Europe and tons of places in between. What I've seen in 2 visits to New King Wok is, friendly, young kids working very hard, having fun, cranking out decent (mostly) Chinese food to a pretty well packed waiting area. On our first visit, we ordered garlic chicken, hot and sour soup, egg rolls and house special fried rice. We got it all as takeout. There's not a huge dine-in space. Was it the best in the world? It was darned good. And for the price, how could you ask for more? The next visit, I called ahead and ordered shrimp fried rice, beef chow mein and hot and sour soup (gotta have my hot and sour soup!). It was ready when I got there. When we got home, it was still hot and tasty. No complaints at all. I still have to mention they were slammed when I picked the food up. The waiting area was elbow-to-elbow. The young people working we're downright inspiring in how they were working as a team and how much fun they were having. All the cooking was not behind some wall but out in front where everyone could see what was going on. In some places where you can't see what's going on, I wonder. I like this place and wouldn't hesitate to order from them anytime I want decent, inexpensive, rib-sticking Chinese food, cooked well by people who seem to take pride in what they're cranking out. If you want super fast, cheap, typical "American Chinese" food, this is a good option in Hartwell. Dishes with meat in them like lo mein and fried rice come in generous sized portions and include plenty of meat. Possibly the worst General Tso chicken I have ever had. Although the portion size was large and the sauce was good, there is WAAAAYYYY too much breading on the small pieces of chicken. The chicken is already breaded and cooked, they just dump some in the fryer and add the sauce and broccoli later. Also chicken wasn't cleaned well, had two pieces with piece of bone attached Best part of the meal was the rice mixed with the sauce. This brand new restaurant in the Hartwell area carries low quality Chinese food right out of a box.The chicken wings were two different brands. The flats were one brand and reasonably good but the drums were a different brand and terrible. The egg rolls had absolutely no filling. The crab sticks were artificial crab meat stuffed into a very thick breading tube. Under Chef Specialties all the chicken meals (General Tso's, Orange, Sesame, etc) were all the stuff you find on low quality buffets. Tiny pieces of chicken and thick brown coating. The local restaurant adds the flavoring for whatever meal you ordered. The Pork Egg Fu Yung had no pork in it and the three patties were exactly the same size without any of the typical crispy hair around the edges. I'm guessing they came out of a box as well and were nuked on site for sale. My wife had Szechuan Wontons and said they were reasonably tasty. All the items in the Pu Pu Platter were directly from a box except the Chicken Sticks. Actually they might have been as well but it is hard to tell because they all look the same. Run! Don't Walk from this place. What a let down. After a long period waiting for them to open I had my hopes high and then to run into the inferior products they are providing was an unfortunate experience. read more

i just moved to Hartwell and was talking with a lady at Ingles and she told me it was the best Chinese food ever. I beg to differ. I was disappointed. When I got home the food was nice and hot but the smell, when I opened the container was a bit scary. The food tasted OK but by no means was it the best ever. I have a very a sensitive nose and it just did not sit well with me. I had to coat it down with soy sauce to offset the smell. I was impressed that the kitchen was in the open and you could see what they were doing, which is always good for me. They were busy, which is good for food turn around. We are a small town and our choices here are few so I cannot say that I will not try it again. I was, however, concerned about the cleanliness of the restaurant dining area. I looked at the floor in the dining room and it was pretty gross and did not look clean at all, especially in the corners which for some reason I always look at. It does not look like they clean it daily but I could be wrong. The food score was a 100 so if the health inspector is doing their job correctly, that made me feel better. Overall, I will not rate them poor because you do get what you pay for, and it is inexpensive food. I will be trying the Golden Palace next and hope that it is better. For me, all they have to do is clean up the place a bit better and I would be happier. I appreciate the fact that they work hard and the staff was pleasant. Lets hope that our reviews help them improve, therefore helping them stay in business longer. For better quality food, I would gladly pay more so for me, inexpensive does not always win. read more
