Solid BBQ with Fantastic Service. This was our second time visiting The Spotted Pig BBQ, and it continues to be a very solid choice for BBQ. We've had great food and great service both times we've been here. (the weather was perfect and we sat outside) On this last trip, I had the BBQ chicken, and my husband got the pulled pork. Both were excellent and hit the spot. We also split the fried jalapeños, which were a delicious, flavorful way to start the meal. The staff is friendly and attentive, which really enhances the experience. While it's great BBQ, it felt like a very solid 4-star experience overall. I love the spotted pig! This place offers delicious bbq and sides. They offer several different sauce options, so everyone can find one they like. The restaurant used to have two locations- one in FairPlay and one in Clayton, GA. However the one is Clayton appears to have closed recently. The biggest star of the show at this restaurant their bbq eggrolls- which they often sell out of. That's the only downfall of this place is that you have to visit early to ensure you have access to their full menu. Service is a bit of a hit or miss- but the food is worth it. read more

Everything went well at this place from the minute we walked in the door. I have never in my life been a fan of barbecue and now thanks to the spotted pig. I cannot get enough of it! We are now regulars there, and they know our names. The pulled pork, the ribs, the Brunswick stew and now the smoked turkey! Absolutely perfect! I would have to say the only thing I have tried that I did not like was their potato salad. But everything else out shines it so it never mattered. And they also make homemade cheesecakes! So you get to top off your barbecue platter with homemade dessert! Or take it home with you because you'll be so full from the generous portions that they serve. We were camping at Lake Hartwell State Park and this spot is located up the road. About average BBQ, nothing earth shattering. I gave an extra star because service was excellent, the local craft beer choices are excellent and the venue is very cool. But as far as actual BBQ, meh - I wouldn't rush back. Sliced brisket - I ordered fatty cut. Nope, got regular cut. It had a deep smoke flavor, which was a great flavor - no bark at all, bummer. The brisket was on the juicier side, but seriously, I asked for fatty cut - I wanted fatty cut. I thought she understood, oh well. Ribs. Touted as their specialty. These were above average, juicy with a deep smoke flavor. Very good. My wife ordered the pulled pork, she like it and said the home made potato salad was great. Mac-n-cheese - white cheddar, creamy as very good. Corn nuggets, skip - no flavor, very underwhelming. Also, what is up with their tiny portion of side dishes? Serously, eight corn nuggets? Is that Mac-n-cheese served in dressing bowl???? No value there, we got sides with our plates -- but if I paid $5 for a side and it came out in this portion, I would be very UN-happy (see pic). Found this place by accident and sooo happy we did!! We were on our way to Gorges State Park for a hike and decided to get lunch to go. Pork sandwich was moist and delicious. The fries were very flavorful and crispy. Baked beans were sweet with big bacon chunks that added saltiness to it. Brisket was fall off apart delicious. Mac and cheese was some of the best I've had, each pasta had cheese coating it. The corn pudding had a sweet taste and it was delicious. We got the spicy sauce and was pleasantly surprised that it was ketchup based instead of vinegar! Had a nice kick to it offset by hint of sweetness. We ate here Sunday, food is good. Price wasn't bad. They had beer and bbq. They were out of chicken fingers for my youngest but he was okay with a grilled cheese. We waited 35 minutes to be seated, there was open tables everywhere so I guess it's just lack of food is why. Then it took another 30 minutes to get food. My daughter didn't like the very Smokey flavor of the meat, and my husband I want to note got the worst heartburn of his life. I'm giving 4 stars due to the wait. Came back today and after being seated and it took 10 minutes to get a menu - another 5 and I had to got to counter to ask for water. We had to ask who our waiter was... We ordered the sampler which came with 2 pork ribs, a serving of pulled pork, 2 slices of brisket, 1 chicken leg, 2 mini corn muffins and small servings of all their sides. Perfect for my husband and I. Now for the food.... Star of the show : Barbecue Egg-rolls! Absolutely delicious filled with pulled pork, coleslaw. melty cheese and other goodies, doused with a touch of barbecue sauce. Yummy! Pulled Pork : Tender but no flavor. I had to add barbecue sauce which made it better. Pork Ribs : Tender and smoky but again, bland! I had to add barbecue sauce for flavor...smh Brisket : Meh, it was overcooked by about 15 minutes so it wasn't melt in your mouth tender, but dry unfortunately. Chicken: Meh, nothing special. Again a little overcooked, but not super dry. Barbecue sauce to the rescue! Sides : Potato salad, coleslaw, macaroni and cheese, baked beans and sweet potato crumble. I enjoyed the sweet potatoes and my husband enjoyed the potato salad and baked beans. Overall : I need flavor! If they would have added salt and pepper or marinating the night before, it would have been so much better! Barbecue sauce shouldn't be a need, but an option. This is country 'cue, in a restaurant situated alongside the proverbial road. I stopped by for lunch, to discover that one of the staff had brought their little boy to work. He had taken over an entire table, which was covered with toys. The restaurant was soon packed, with regulars whom the staff greeted by name as they came in. This is the corner of the BBQ world that I most love-- and where the value for your dollar is typically the highest. For $19.08, I wolfed down a rib plate (3 large and meaty bones) with sides of Brunswick stew and corn pudding. A refillable soda (Coke products) completed the order. The stew was wonderful, and the corn pudding superb. The ribs? Top notch: juicy, separating cleanly at the bite, with a light rub that enhanced rather than distracted from the flavor of good quality meat. There is really good value here. And I would have liked to try a dessert, but I needed to save room for a Greek restaurant in Raleigh that evening. read more

The spicy was a bit spicy, so I cut it with some of the sweet and tangy and it was just right. The Spotted Pig BBQ is a rustic, high-ceiling-ed eatery with a grand fireplace and menu of Southern BBQ with classic sides. The ambiance was appropriate for a barbecue restaurant. They had an amazing display of sweets. The cheesecake looks amazing. I will have to try it when I am letting myself to eat sweets again. Very nice dinning area with booths and tables inside and also a nice outside patio available. The whole restaurant is very clean and comfortable. In the middle of the restaurant they have a huge or long hand wash sink with three water taps, to clean your sticky finger lick-in hands, after eating those ribs and sauces. They have ample free parking in front of the restaurant. There's not really much more to say, if you like barbecue and you are in the area, just go. read more

I got baked beans and onion rings and they were delicious. By mistake I got fried okra on my plate and she said I could keep it which was pretty good too. The ribs were tender and juicy at the same time. I got big portions of it so I had plenty of food for days. LOL. The BBQ sauces on the table were good but maybe too sweet for me. The restaurant was crowded and people kept coming in. No wonders why the food was starting to get sold out by the time we got there. Delicious! The most tender pulled pork I've had lately. The platter is served with two sides and a tiny corn muffin, and honestly it COULD have been enough for two, but I finished about 90% of it! The sides of slaw and fried okra were so tasty as well, the slaw not being your standard with just cabbage and mayo. Inside dining is open but precautions are being taken.
