Updated review: Eric, the owner, waived my $500 owed. He took ownership over the situation, I honestly don't think he was aware this salesperson was taking advantage of me. That said, it's his company, I am no longer eligible for an old net metering system, and it was a really frustrating experience. They have lots of good reviews, this is obviously an outlier. All I wanted was a solar system for my property while the old net metering system was in place before April 15. Instead I was misled into contract for a huge, unnecessary system and was ignored when I inquired for months about the system needs and requirements. Now I'm paying to get out of contract because I no longer trust this company, I wasted my chance to get in under the old system. I feel completely taken advantage of. New Leaf was recommended by a very smart and trusted friend, so I put way too much faith in them. It's my own fault for not looking at all my sdge bills and realizing that the system they got me in contract for would produce about 300% of my current needs. After getting in contract and getting a very high %APR loan of 10%, I started asking questions regarding the need for such a large system. I asked very specific questions- they were not answered and I never heard from anyone for about 3 months after the site survey. I thought they were not interested in doing the project because I had so many questions about the need for so many panels. Then they wanted to get started again, they said I needed a new electric panel, I asked if we could do a system that would work with the 100 amp panel instead of upgrading to 200. I was not told the size of the system they could put on that panel despite asking many times, I was told I wouldn't be happy with that system on the 100amp. Finally after getting no answers, not having access to my contract or loan details, I told them I didn't want to proceed. Now I'm stuck paying $500 for the site survey. To summarize, they tried to sell me a system that was way too big, refused to answer questions about the need for that size system, if we could reduce the size, if we could use the 100 amp panel, and when I became uncomfortable with the straight up dishonesty, I'm told I have to do it or pay $500 to get out. Needless to say my wife is not impressed. These guys are used car salesmen. I'm paying the $500 and moving on with my life read more

They recently installed a level 2 EV charging station at my house, including taking care of the city permit and inspection. I didn't really shop around, so I can't speak to the price. But the electrician did excellent work, and while he was down in my crawl space, he took photos to alert me to subpar work that had been done by previous electricians. read more

Buyer beware. This company was recommended to install a Tesla wall-mount charger. All good, except ... they installed a defective circuit breaker which created a meltdown in my electrical panel. After replacing that breaker (which was supposed to solve meltdown issue), there was another meltdown. Lo and behold, I was told I needed a new, more powerful electrical box to protect against my home potentially burning down. Why this wasn't mentioned before or after the first meltdown is anyone's guess. So, I had the box replaced for more than $3,000. Now the charger is defective and I'm told I have to pay $250 for them to swap out the old one for a new wall-mount that's in my possession. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Needless to say, I've hired a different company to replace the charger. I hate writing reviews like this, but enough is enough. read more

One week later I receive an email stating New Leaf is "too busy and does not have the bandwidth" in order to complete the job nor could they recommend any other electrician to do the job. Long time overdue review for this excellent owner and company. Eric installed a new outlet and EV charger at my house for a very competitive price. He was very professional every step of the way and he knows his craft well. He took care of city inspection arrangements for the new outlet and hook up. The whole process was seamless, I was up and charging my car fairly quickly. Fast forward a few years later, I contacted him via e-mail since I was having problems with my charger and he helped me trouble shoot it over e-mail at no extra charge! He could've come out and charged me for an easy fix but instead just walked me through a few steps over e-mail which fixed my problem. I offered to pay but he declined any payment. I recently got a Tesla wall connecter installation done by New Leaf and I highly highly recommend them. I reached out to all top rated electricians and they asked for panel pictures but none of them ever took a look at them and sent me back a generic response and incorrect circuit breaker placement. All Tesla certified, overpriced and unfortunately not detail oriented (in their assessment of the project). Eric's detailed response and his attention to my questions made all the difference for me. His was the only response where he noticed and asked me about an existing 60amp breaker (among other things). He is very responsive, clarifies all the questions, technical or non technical, you can have (my email thread with him is almost at 50 messages), is timely and his electrician Nick did a very clean installation. Also, priced better compared to each one of Tesla certified (although that made no difference in my choice). Initially I was hesitant in reaching out to New Leaf due to them not being in Tesla certified list but glad that I did. I found that New Leaf Electric inc to be very professional and with timely meeting deadlines. They started on the 14th of Dec, finished the next day and I had the county inspection and SDGE ok up and running by Thursday in the afternoon of that week. All of there staff were very knowledgeable and coutyeous in there jobs. They picked up after themselves and left the job site cleaner than when they started. I would differently recommend this company if you need solar installed. P.S. Price quoted was a very nice shock, we put in 25 panels and our cost was around 21000. I was looking for some references in the internet to do the set up for my new EV, found Eric and filled up a simple form with my requirements on one Sunday night, got his reply prompt on Monday early morning, we set up the date and time for inspection, he visited my house, we talked around 20 mins, through out our discussion, I was super impressed with him, below are some key points I have noticed. I had put off inquiring about getting solar panels installed on my home for a while due to not being educated enough on the process and thinking it would be too expensive. While the process does involve quite a few different inspections and weekdays worth of work, I was able to leave nearly everything to the team who was able to accomplish what they needed while I was at work. I started quotation from Yelp to install a NEMA 14-50 outlet for my new Model Y, but got Eric's information from a home maintenance group. To get a quote for this project, it is recommended to take clear pictures of power panel and position where to install the outlet, so that electricians can estimate the scope of the project. Since my house power panel has no space for additional breaker, they replace on double breaker with quadrat one. Some electrician recommended add a new sub-panel. Owner's choice. Their quote is most reasonable, and Nick came here finished the project in two hours. Story not stop here. I found some outlets were out of power that afternoon, so I called Eric. He expected not because Nick's job on the panel, but agreed to come one early morning to take a look. He checked the panel and found no problem, and traced to one loose outlet. I sent out request for quotes to a handful of companies and Jon gave me a call to review my needs and make some recommendations. I had some ideas of what I wanted in a system and taking those edits into consideration New Leaf gave me a very competitive price. Financing was very easy and the site survey was done shortly after I signed the contract. Honestly, it took longer for the city approval than the install to permission to operate. Everyone will have a different experience given City Permit offices and SDG&E workload but as I write this, my system was installed exactly one week ago today and got Permission to Operate around noon yesterday. I can't say enough about Nick and the install crew. Very thorough with their work and they take pride in the workmanship. If you're considering solar, make sure to give New Leaf a call. read more
