First off, we did not taking getting solar lightly. We spoke to about 8 different companies in person (Semper, Baker, Stellar, Optimum, and a couple others I can't remember now). First and foremost Gabe at Aloha Solar was the ONLY one where it didn't feel sales pitchy. He went to college for this, believe he grew up off grid on Maui and you can tell right away he's knowledgeable and a straight shooter. Not to mention he had the best pricing and deal out of every other company! Gabe made us feel comfortable with our decision, gave us all the information we wanted, and actually drove out to our house multiple times to chat when we had additional questions and concerns. Is Aloha a smaller company, yes, but will Gabe answer your call when needed, yes! Fast forward install happened within a couple weeks of signing the deal. Minas was the head installer it seemed (all people are internal employees with Aloha and work is NOT contracted out, that was a big seller for us), and two other guys Rigo and Matt. All were super nice and very professional. I have to say, I can be a very particular person; I want things done a certain way, specifically when it comes to aesthetics. I really like things to blend in, so when I saw them installing the mounts, I quickly asked Gilberto if we could paint them to match. Adding solar power to my home was a huge decision as I am certain it is for most people. I called and left messages for maybe half a dozen solar companies in my area. Only a couple of companies actually called me back. Either business for them was really, really good and they were not actively trying to gain another customer or their customer service was really poor. One company gave a very slick powerpoint presentation but did not actually come to my home. Assessing where to place the solar panels and the power wall would have been done virtually. In the sea of many solar companies who are just trying to turn out installs, Gabe took the time to share his experience, knowledge, and advice. This is a rare situation and one that warrants this write-up. Do yourself a favor before booking any solar company, check the reviews. Many negative complaints stem from the lack of follow-up or follow-thru with commitments after the sale. Getting the panels installed isn't the issue. The issue is getting them services afterwards. Moved into my current house a year ago and it came with a 10 year old 3kw solar system (minus degradation), which wasn't enough. With the tax credit ending end of year, now seemed like a good time to get some more panels. As my current system is on NEM 1 with 1:1 credits from Edison, I didn't want to lose that but I wanted the new system to cover additional usage. As a result of many hours of research, I was leaning towards a FranklinWH system due to their dynamic export limiting functionality to ensure the old system could continue to export up its maximum and the new system would be able to cover my additional usage. Vendor Selection I got quotes from 6 vendors around end of July through early August. Tesla was only able to do Tesla Powerwall + Qcells solar panels. 2 vendors only did Enphase systems REC 460 + Enphase 10C + IQ8x microinverters. 3 vendors (including Aloha) were able to do the FranklinWH aPower2 + REC 460 + IQ8x microinverters. Aloha Solar Power was the most expensive bid I received ($31,420 which is ~$4k higher than the lowest priced bid for the same system). Ultimately I selected Aloha Solar Power for a couple reasons. 1. They were the recommended vendor by FranklinWH. Considering how many solar systems get installed in Southern California, that probably doesn't happen by accident. 2. Gabe always responded the next business day to my emails and the answers I got were the most intelligent. Since my situation isn't as straightforward as a brand new solar system, I probably had more complicated than average questions. Other installers would have to send my question to engineering which took a couple days to get a response. None of the non-FranklinWH installers were able to convince me that Enphase was the right approach. 3. It isn't everyday you see a business with this many 5 star reviews and nothing less. 4. They don't use subcontractors and all electricians are union journeyman electricians. 5. Turns out the FranklinWH system with the configuration I wanted would require an additional subpanel which was included in Gabe's original estimate. No other installer pointed that out and unsure if they knew or quoted me based on that. 6. Not sure if it's due to the relatively small system I was needing installed, but there was no deposit, no milestone payments, etc. Didn't pay a cent until everything was up and running. 7. I was guaranteed to have a system up and running before the end of the year so I wouldn't miss out on the tax credit. Installation Signed the contract beginning of September and was contacted in mid-October for an installation - just as originally estimated. Was told the installation was going to take one day from 7AM-5PM and it did. Shoutout to the crew Matt, Saul, Isaac, Juan who did the install. They arrived exactly on the dot at 7AM, not a minute late. By 5PM, they had installed 10x REC460 panels, 10x Enphase microinverters, 1x Enphase combiner, 1x FranklinWH aGate, 1x FranklinWH aPower2, 1x subpanel (which required relocating every single breaker from my original main panel), all the conduit runs + painted the exterior conduits, and cleaned up afterwards. Waiting on final inspection now, but so far the system is working exactly how I originally expected it would. Big thanks to the Aloha team! Would recommend! read more

My interaction with the company started with Joseph, a very kind dude from a very small town in Maui. He was very knowledgeable, answered all of my questions, and was very responsive to my needs. He assisted me with creating the perfect project for my home. He also put me in touch with a great roofing company to replace my roof. The team who completed the roof job on my house was also AMAZING! They took the entire roof off in one day, and installed the whole new roof the following day. These guys were great! I purchased a backup battery to add to my existing solar panel system. They suggested what turned out to be a terrific product (Franklin aPower 2 battery + Franklin a Gate). The hardware, including its app, works great. What was most impressive of all was how great these guys were. The installation process, up to the county's inspection, takes three days, and they did it on three successive days. I hired Aloha Solar Power to do my ground mount solar installation in Ramona, CA. I needed a ground mount because my roof is made up of lots of smaller sections and it's not ideal for a roof mount of a usable size. I have lots of land though, and lots of options for doing a ground mount. I tried for 15 months with other companies and I had a lot of bad experiences. One company cancelled on me after a year of waiting for permits. I found Aloha Solar by doing an inquiry on the FranklinWH website. These guys did an incredible job. Every single part of the interaction was good. No pushy salesman stuff. Gabe is down to earth and very real, and listened to what I wanted and needed. It took around 1 month from my first email contact with Gabe, to having a finished and functioning solar installation. Every step of the process went exactly as Gabe said it would, there were no surprises. Gabe said it would take 4 business days, and it took 4 business days. The install crew Jerry, Sam, and Angel were on time every day, friendly, professional and extremely efficient. I felt like I was in good hands the entire time. They did a beautiful job building the ground mount structure, arranging the panels, mounting the battery and doing the wiring. Very clean install. I am an IT guy, and a bit of a cable management freak and these guys did a really clean install. I am beyond impressed. Where can I start explaining how pleasant and informative Aloha Solar is? I reviewed the yelp reviews and Better Business Bureau and got three separate bids for solar power(as they said you should). This was the only time I could not find a lot of information on a company to choose, but we were so lucky to find Aloha Solar in Encinitas, CA. They were very competitive with their pricing. And the great thing is there is no middle company, they are the seller and installer of the system. They were the second company to call me back and they were able to meet over the phone within 48 hours. From the date we met to the date we had solar installed was less than 30 days and we got approved by SDGE in less than 2 weeks after that. We received copies of the permits and photos of the installation on our roof. The amount of time spent to make sure all our options were explained on how to pay for the solar power and the different options available were great to know. The time taken by Aloha Solar to make sure all our questions were answered were a welcome change in today's environment. Every step of the way, we felt comfortable that we were getting a GREAT quality solar system with a battery backup that met our needs, especially in the increasing cost of today's environment with Electric companies. Thank you so much for helping us each step of the way during this process and always being available by text from the person selling us the system to the techs installing it, to the owner of the company, even on the weekends. So...I just found out yesterday that my solar system has not been working for a few months. As you could imagine I was panicking! I tried troubleshooting and was unsuccessful. Contacting Solar Edge support chat, it says my optimizers were not paired which I have no clue what that means. I went ahead and requested quotes on yelp. Gabe reached out and informed me that he will contact Solar Edge to see if they will replace the inverter since it was under warranty. Not even 30 mins he sent me another message informing me that Solar Edge will replace my inverter as it has gone bad and he should receive it in a 2-3 weeks. He did all this in under an hour and helped a customer without compensation. I am truly amazed on his amazing customer service. Not only that, he provided a quote for the installation as that is not typically covered under warranty. The quote itself was below the pricing of other quotes I received. Other companies insisted they need to visit the site to provide a quote which isn't ideal for most of us. I will definitely be reaching out to Gabe and Aloha Solar once the new inverter arrives. I got a Tesla Powerwall 3 installed as well as an EV charger. Both were located in my garage while my panel is on the other side of my house. Minas and Jorge routed everything under the eaves of my house so the conduit isn't noticeable, they even painted it to match the color of my house. Matt came later and finished setup of the battery and got me set up on the Tesla app. Overall it was a good experience and I'd recommend these guys if you're in the market for a backup battery.
