I have thought long and hard about how to write a review that would be both beneficial to those looking for the right center, and to the New Method's community. The following is my best effort. I researched centers, all over the country, that specialized in dual diagnosis treatment and landed on New Method Wellness for their comprehensive and holistic approach, location, and team of specialists. Firstly, I spoke with Juanita--admissions director at New Methods Wellness--weekly for about a month prior to my daughter agreeing to get help. She was compassionate, but there was also a no-nonsense honestly about her approach. Though she asked me critical questions about my daughter's addictions and mental health, she also opened a line of communication about my role. I would later realize that this was an important part of supporting me for what was to come. When my daughter hit her "bottom," she was ready to talk with Juanita. Game changer! Juanita, through a combination of real talk and compassionate support, laid out a possible path to sobriety. Though it was not a given that my daughter would accept the many challenges that came with getting healthy (in mind, body and spirit), she finally agreed to try. Juanita shared her insights and learned wisdom of navigating the logistics of getting started on this journey, and has continued to be a foundational member of the New Method's team. Things New Methods Wellness doesn't do: * They do not make guarantees, and they don't claim to be an easy program. * They do not patronize or diminish the severity of dual diagnosis, or sugar coat the harmful consequences of addiction. Things New Methods Wellness does: * They provide a holistic and evidence-based program for treating some mental health issues and addiction. * They provide a residential-based living experience that separates the treatment center, from the "home" environment. * They require personal responsibility, and hold clients accountable for their choices * They combine compassionate services with expectations that the clients (and when appropriate their families) are willing and able to work the program. New Methods Wellness helped save my daughter's life - and I do not say this lightly. They provided the foundational programming, caring support and nonjudgmental environment that, when combined, created a space for her to feel safe, and subsequently, allowed her to see her choices and disease through a different lens. I believe a program is only as good as its parts, and at New Methods Wellness, all parts including support staff and administration, specialists, programming, and adjunct practitioners, are worth mentioning and thanking. My daughter's primary therapist Tracy (in concert with the rest of the therapeutic team) was, and still is, a critical part of her recovery process. She is part sounding board, part voice of support and wisdom, and part cheerleader - and from what I can tell - all heart. Having said all this, my daughter had to do the work. New Methods Wellness can only offer services and support, and as with most healing programs, each client must choose to participate - fully and honestly - and within the boundaries set by the center. I am grateful every day for the people and the work being done at New Methods Wellness (and other caring centers). I am grateful for the community and the 12-step programs, and I am grateful to hear my amazing daughter's beautiful voice on the phone each morning with an excited *Good Morning* that makes my heart soar read more

The addiction of a loved family member is a heart wrenching experience. To watch the bright-eyed, fresh faced, happy, funny, full of life and promise individual you love and know devolve into a negative, paranoid, self-absorbed, self-destructive shadow of his or her former self is a tragic nightmare that you keep hoping you will wake from in the morning. But you don't, and it keeps getting worse. And worse. And worse. They lie to you. They lie to themselves. They lose touch with reality and create a reality that exists only in their mind. They don't see what we see as they spiral down, down, down into the abyss that is the gateway to hell. A Hell for them and almost a worse hell for those who have to stand by and witness this self destructive journey and then desperately try to get help for them despite their garbled insistence that they are fine and it is the rest of us who have a problem. And this was where we found ourselves after years of watching a family member self-destruct. This person showed up to a family event completely detached from reality, uttering jibberish, but insisting he was the best form of himself that he had ever been. By unanimous consensus the family decided to try and convince him to attend a rehab center. There was no insurance involved. We all committed to contributing to the cost of his care. A search was begun to find a suitable facility. We did some research and we were encouraged with the New Method Wellness approach, knowing that the psychological therapy they offer would be as important as physical withdrawal, if not more. We were able to convince him to go and he was delivered to the facility the next afternoon. The family member who attended the intake process with him was impressed with all of the staff and the facility. He liked that one of the counselors walked in with a resident of the program and they had just been out surfing. He was encouraged when he left. He felt we had picked a good facility that was sincere about helping people. All of us took a deep breath, knowing that this was voluntary and that he could decide to bolt at any time. And he did. Two days later, much to our dismay. During the intake process, however, it had been discovered that the addicted family member had exposed his child to his drug use and even driven in the car with the child while in a drug induced state. This is information that every licensed addiction center is mandated to report to Social Services, which they did. When our family member found out that he had been reported and CPS showed up at his home he went wild and wrote the most scathing negative report on Yelp about New Method Wellness, giving them one star. That is totally undeserved. New Method did everything they could to try and help him and were great at working with our family. In the end, this addict must bear the responsibility for everything that has happened. He has made these choices, as drug induced as the choices are, and he has to suffer the consequences. It's unfortunate that innocent people have to be dragged along with him. New Method Wellness cannot be judged by the rantings of an enraged addict whose thought processes are greatly impaired. We wish he would have stayed. We think it would have been great for him, but he loved his drugs more. read more

I'm an employee of New Method Wellness, and a recovering individual who has gone through three different treatment center to get here (I now have over 2 years of sobriety). Although I was never a client of New Method Wellness, I am closely connected to what happens around here and want to share a bit of what I have observed. Not only is this an awesome place to work, but I see what the program does on a daily basis for the individuals who are lucky enough to end up here. I've seen young people, older people, unhealthy people who look near death, stubborn people, traumatized people, hostile and aggressive people, and people who are in complete denial walk in these doors and slowly transform. Not everyone who comes here stays and takes the opportunities presented here, but those who do have every tool laid out that they could need to continue a happy, sober life. The program here is diligently laid out to maximize the client's abilities to become active and satisfied in their own life. Clients learn to talk out what is going on inside their minds, how to deal with daily frustrations without drinking/using, and how to connect and have healthy relationships with others. There is some pain in the process, and New Method Wellness creates a safe environment to face and heal from the past. I've seen some very resistive clients walk in here and come out the other side with a spring in their step, confident, and with a pack of new supportive friends who will stay with them wherever they go. Each client has an individualized treatment plan, and this plan remains fluid as the client progresses through early recovery. Clients are often asked to stay longer, because the change in each individual is so great. I see each client as they check in to treatment and when they are leaving on many occasions I do not recognize them as the same person (I look at the intake photo and think WHAT?) The possibility for change is massive in early recovery and New Method Wellness has mastered providing just enough direction and nudging for each client to change their lives. It just starts with a seed of willingness to check in and try something new. read more

I friend just asked me RECOVERY? What happened??? This is just a glimpse of what happened and in my mind(a very scary place) it was normal behavior...no moral compass! Had a manic episode that lasted months. Ruined my marriage, ruined my relationship with my gf in Monterey and strained my relationship w/my family, ruined my relationship with my daughter. Strained & ruined many relationships with friends...too many to mention. Lost my job at DOLE! I can only humbly ask for their forgiveness one day. Overa 6 month manic episode, I had Multiple arrests, alcohol, drugs & women. Smuggled coke in my prison glove from Vegas to SF. Had 3 choices, Recovery for 6 months, prison or die. I chose New Method Wellness: a dual diagnosis program in San Juan Capistrano. I have bi polar, alcohol &drug addiction. The owners, Susie, Ed, Deanna & Bing along with my therapists esp Linda Snell SAVED MY LIFE! Everyone at NMW, the entire STAFF cares deeply about the clients & their recovery. This place IS a family. Even when I screw up and get a write up (1 so far) it's based on constructive criticism and not out of spit. I'm truly grateful for the staff and their never ending support! They taught me how to live a new life, work on changing my character defects (which I had & still have many) and work the 12 steps of AA. I pray expectantly! I pray every day to be of service to others! I changed and so did my priorities. My God & my program are fist! I'm second & family 3rd. The way it MUST be to live a grateful, sober, productive life!!! GOD BLESS!!! In my opinion, ALL negative reviews are from people who are spiteful or did NOT put in the work! You must be present, do your homework, work the steps (get a sponsor, make friends, go to mtgs) and humble yourself. NMW provides the building blocks for recovery but YOU MUST do the work. It's hard! I hear people say, I want it! GREAT! That's 20%, the other 80% comes from you...YOU MUST DO IT! If you don't, you'll be resentful and full of spite and YOU WILL RELAPSE! It's unfortunate that since 2006 that NMW has had 1 negative review on Yelp from a lone reviewer. While perfection looks wonderful, the industry does have it's casualities. Former clients of any treatment center are made away of a choice, either get clean and sober or continue to live your life and eventually die. This treatment center focuses on treatment for the individual and not reputation. Anyone can say they can help but many don't. The treatment center is actually owned by 4 partners, who have a passion for recovery and helping people, with a combined over 75 years of recovery they have apparently have discovered something along the lines that has worked for them and the 600+ clients they have had since inception. Treatment for addiction is not perfect. Many die trying to get sober. Those who make an attempt to degrade, mis repreentand persuade others to think negatively of a facility designed to help other suffering from the life threating addictions including some mental disorders which obviously are not mentally well themselves. Consider this, a hospital cares for a trauma patient. When in need does the hospital get reviewed before emergency treatment is delivered? Absolutely not! There might be questions after the treatment, but neverless their job was to save life. It's a miracle that a person can even make a statement or opinion after addiction recovery treatment was delivered to them. It could have been the other way, the person could not have been alive, therefore not able to breath. As for the fees of treating the addict who is suffering miserably as the reviewer states of $1000.00 per day. That's probably the best $1000.00 per day spent versus the wreckage, destruction of family, finances, careers, personal health and even becoming a menace to society that that person could ever spend. These owners and their staff are there to help. Yes there are other treatment facilities, however there doors are open and phone lines are available. Come in and meet the owners and staff, then make your decision. They don't hide....they provide. read more

Why I am so grateful to New Method Wellness: There was a point when I was worried about my daughter's drug and alcohol abuse. Afraid every day that she would overdose and I would lose her forever. My daughter had a situation that required medical attention and that was the tipping point. Our daughter reached out to NMW (we had done research in the past and felt NMW was the place we wanted to send our daughter if we could ever get her there). It took us a week to get our daughter to NMW. She was under our eyesight at all time. I even slept in her room. When we walked into NMW I knew it was the perfect place for our daughter. NMW teaches skills to recovery and is there to help every step of the way. They have helpful rules and structure which tells us they care about their clients. My daughter found success by putting in the time and work, and not trying to get out after only 30 days. Residential then IOP is essential. She learned recovery and living skills along the way. We are so grateful! From the staff we learned that, it's Progress not Perfection. They may stumble along the way, but NMW has a safety net that can bring them back into focus if they truly want recovery. Thank you NMW for tolerating us worried, scared, and over reactive parents. For having a safety net, for letting us know it is a disease and will always be there. The best word I can say is that we are Grateful. NMW deserves the very best review for saving lives and helping people learn to heal and live with this disease. Susie and Ed have been a great source of encouragement and reality. Our family is most grateful for the kind and understanding course of treatment that New Methods Wellness extended to our addicted family member last year. We were treated with patience, respect and concern in a professional manner. Although the intake worker must have worked with several new patients, I felt as if she had all the time in the world for us and will never forget her kind and caring manner. As we worked through the intake procedure, I noticed my nerves had worked through stages from anxious to comforting. I was convinced our loved family member would be well taken care of on their path to healing. This kind concern continued on throughout the entire intake procedure and was followed up by a very much supported phone call after I had returned home that initial day. We later learned that our family member was treated with the same personal treatment. The New Method Wellness's chef went out to special shop for our family member's vegan diet, locating and driving to an organic farmers market and making up new menu items cooked special. I had been going through some medical health issues and the intake worker even found time in her busy schedule to reach out and ask how my procedures were going. We also had a great source of educational reference presented to both sides of the family. Several family members are going to weekly Alanon meetings that have facilitated the families' need to work on appropriate communication methods with the addicted family member. Although I do not wish any of your family members to have this addiction condition, I am only grateful that such caring facilities like NEW METHODS WELLNESS are around to work with all of us. read more

I had lost hope. Countless denials from treatment facilities that would not take our insurance and 6 years of addiction told me there was no hope. My son was going to die. I could only stagger along until I got the call saying the police had found his body. Against all hope I sent my insurance information to New Method Wellness. It wouldn't matter, my insurance had already told me New Method Wellness was out of network and probably would not take our insurance. And then it happened...I got a call from Susie Hopson with New Method Wellness and she said to me the words that changed my life, she said "There is always hope! We can bring your son in." Through countless phone calls navigating the insurance company, calls placed to her on Saturdays, Sundays and late in the evening, Susie was there. She made the impossible happen. She worked with the insurance and found a way to help my son. She helped me get my son to treatment and I was halfway across the country. Fast forward to today. My son is alive. He is full of hope and excited about the future. That in itself is a miracle! We traveled to California this last weekend to share in family therapy group at New Method Wellness and meet the extraordinary staff. The skill, patience, kindness and genuine concern these folks have is an amazing thing to witness. I got a chance to interact with the clients and staff and it has changed me forever. There is not a more grateful set of parents on this earth than my husband and myself. Word to the wise - save your money and go somewhere else. This place is run by a husband-wife team who as former addicts themselves tend to make a lot of promises that they don't keep. If you want straightforward recovery from highly competent addiction specialists there are many other places to find that where you aren't going to be taken for $1000 bucks a day! Look around - there aren't any reviews on this place not only on yelp but anywhere else that they didn't write themselves. Clearly they spend a ton on online advertising and just because a place shows up when you google "recovery center" doesn't necessarily mean that it's the best place for you to go to get help. In fact, the higher up on that list a particular center shows up might instead mean the more they're spending on online advertising and the less they're spending on their actual clients recovery and that's exactly what I suspect is going on at New Method Wellness after witnessing how horrifically they handle their individual patients recovery myself first hand. Sure...they have a wholesome-looking website with pictures of ritzy inpatient housing but when you take away those material things unfortunately their individual care falls miserably below the standard of care that a recovery center should always maintain. If you're considering recovery it's just my opinion that you should think long and hard about who you're going to to entrust your sobriety to and after my own personal experience with New Method Recovery Center I believe that unless you're into half-truths, broken promises and under-qualified 'professionals' overseeing your recovery you'd be better off going somewhere else. read more

I just want to thank New Method Wellness for helping my nephew Xavier whom came from Hawaii for treatment. He has been battling his addictions for a long time, early teens with many unsuccessful attempts at sobriety seeing there is not much offered in Hawaii except Psychiatric hospitals. This was the first place where he made forward progress and started gathering some momentum to live a new and productive life. He said that the staff was kind and understanding, the food was great, the serenity of the location was immaculate. More than anything, I'm just happy to have my nephew back. Although he has only recently completed his program within the last six months, he is clearly excited about his new life, and so is the family and I. A big thank you to everybody over there. While quality inpatient care is not cheap, it's hard to put a price on sobriety. It was all worth it. I would Highly recommend anybody considering to send their loved one here to New Method Wellness. They don't just treat the client as a number they treat them like family and care about their future. I'm happy to say that Xavier is continuing his Sober Living and IOP in Northern California where he continues to be very successful in his Sobriety. We sent our son to New Method Wellness this past January. He was in a very bad place. From the beginning, New Method Wellness helped us navigate a very difficult and trying set of circumstances. The staff were incredibly responsive, educated us on the process and within a few days had our son in their program. They worked with our insurance company to help offset some of the costs. They worked with us to understand how the process would work. They helped us set up travel from the Midwest to their Orange County facility. They literally saved his life and gave us ( his family ) hope. New Method Wellness personnel are the best in the industry. The facilities are incredible and the multi-step process they use is ideal. They treated his mental and physical health with equal vigor. At the conclusion of the program, the family visit exceeded our expectations. We went through a very difficult process but the result was game changing. Since our son completed the program, the staff remain dedicated to helping us navigate his future. They have been terrific with follow up questions and assistance. If you are looking for a world class rehabilitation program, New Method Wellness is the one. Well I'll just start by saying I was a lost soul close to death when my wife and friend found New Method Wellness and flew me out to California the next day! From there I was in inpatient for 60 days and well at first I hated it due to the circumstances and being away from my wife and kiddos, but thanks to everyone at new method I got my life back and also made some amazing friends and people I can count on to always be there for me! I just want everyone who is struggling with alcohol and or drugs, to get help now it's not too late to save ur life and new method is the way to go! They treat you like family and made the rehab process so much more enjoyable than what it seems! so if u r looking for a great place to get clean and sober and make life long friends, I advise u to call new method and get ur butt there ASAP! It will save ur life! And all the staff well almost all are ex addicts and alcoholics, who know exactly what u r goin through and with the help of there professional staff u will leave there wanting to either stay or go back! I had so much fun while working on me that I'd do it again but without the drugs and alcohol! I'd go back just to be around these wonderful life savers and friends! I went into New Method Wellness at my worst...I had no home, no job, no real friends, my family wanted nothing to do with me, and I had lost my will to live. I honestly did not think I was worthy of life, I had been using drugs/alcohol/people/things for the past 12 years and I hated myself every day for it. The staff at New Method Wellness loved me unconditionally, I could not see myself ever being anything but a drug addict, but they believed that I was capable of anything, and eventually they helped me get to a point where I believed it as well. Today I have a beautiful life, I have a job I love where I help people like me, I have healthy friendships and relationships that I achieved by learning how to effectively communicate and a life full of happiness and gratitude. I have completed the twelve steps, have sponsees and my sponsor is one of my best friends. The only thing I did was remain teachable and took suggestion, I listened to the wisdom the New Method Wellness Staff had to offer. I will be forever grateful to New Method Wellness, they saved my life and gave me all of the tools I needed to become the strong, successful, and dependable woman I am today. read more

As someone who has been in the addiction treatment community(personally and professionally) for many years, I can honestly say that New Method Wellness is by far the most legitimate establishment I've ever been associated with. They are extremely well staffed, and their employees are very professional, their facilities are luxurious and immaculate, and their all encompassing program is extremely well rounded; drawing on a myriad of different modalities. It's no wonder that multiple different television entities refer people here. California is currently saturated with fly-by-night establishments trying to cash in on the insurance gold rush, who treat people like paychecks and then discard them back to the streets; but I've seen time and time again the altruistic compassion New Method Wellness has in regards to its clients. They thoroughly vet their staff and clients to create an ideally holistic environment for all. They are without a doubt the premier program in Southern California, and equally as undoubtedly so in the national spectrum as well. If any of my family or friends needed treatment, they would be my first choice. read more

We have been fortunate enough to find New Method Wellness when we needed to find serious help for our 19 year old son and his addiction to methamphetamines. We were desperate and in a time of crisis, looking for a rehab center that does more than treat the addiction, and we called New Method Wellness. Thank goodness we did!! Everyone who works at NMW seems to be genuine and caring. They really do put the clients first. They helped us every step of the way when we were guiding our son to get help. So far our son has been there just over 30 days and he's really doing well. It hasn't been a easy road and they won't sugar coat things for you, but they will be there to help. I believe NMW has helped us save our sons life. I am eternally grateful for New Method Wellness and the programs they offer to help people heal from addictions and trauma. I know as a founder that this treatment center has a passion for what we do. I do know we are working with addiction and behavorial issues some times larger than we can treat. We have a great psychiatrist that has helped perform miracles on our dually addicted people, but some clients and family members want to leave because we can not give instant gratifications. It takes many years sometimes to realize we have these issues and consequently it takes time to treat. All I can say is that we take all reviews personal and will try to improve. I also have to remember i am working with sick families and patients. New Method Wellness gives one of the best foundations one can receive. If the client takes what we give them, their chances of living a happy, joyous, and life beyone there dreams can come true. I have witnessed many dreams come true. They walk in the office weekly and attend alumni day. This treatment center was built on love and compassion. We will continue to treat and hope we can help many more. read more

New Method Wellness saved and changed my life and that is because of the dedication of the staff and all the people involved there, especially Susie, Ed, Deanna, Bing and Juanita. I look back and think of who I was then and who I am now and what a change. Of course if I wasn't willing to change my lifestyle and continue to do what I have done before entering the rehab, I would put the same bad review that others have done, because I couldn't see what I see now. Our disease tends to aggravate the situation, deceiving people and of course was never ever my fault. What I was doing before got me in a situation I was in, and not a good one. They have guided me with love and affection and sometimes through love, and that was exactly what I needed. I owe them my life and for that I am forever thankful. If you think that any amount of money is not worth your or your loved one's life, then think of how much it costs you to maintain the disease or how much you'll miss a loved one. As an alumni of New Method Wellness, and current professional in the Substance Abuse Treatment industry, I can wholeheartedly say that this program is one of a kind. From the immaculate facilities and houses, to the undeniable sense of love from the treatment team and supportive staff, New Method Wellness stands above the other premier treatment centers because of the well-rounded methodology they use to help a person find sobriety. The balance of one-on-one therapy and group time is used to a successful effect, in order to help establish healthy behaviors and healing. All of this comes from the top, however. Of the various treatment centers I have visited as either a client, or professional, the amount of passion and caring is incomparable when put head-to-head with Susie and Deanna. Without New Method Wellness, sobriety would not have been attractive and I would still be living a delusional life, slowly dying as a hopeless heroin addict. read more

I can't say enough about New Method. From the admission team to the counselors, the house managers, the reception team. Everyone here is welcoming and really care about you as a person not just a client. Yoga, beach and surf therapy, Tai chi, massages. All the extras that really help you as an individual in your recovery. I don't know if any other places have the owners onsite everyday and available to everyone but New Method does. The homes are beautiful, the center is amazing. I didn't encounter or have interactions with anyone that wasn't caring, professional, and easy to talk to and available. They saved my life and gave me the tools to keep going. I would and have recommended this place to anyone that needs help. The dual diagnosis program really makes the difference. I learned things about myself and was able to process things I didn't even know were long held issues. You will not be sorry to go here or to send a loved one here. read more
