Dora, the Owner, was so gracious as was the young lady that took our order. Both were very helpful in explaining the ingredients of each tamale. We had the spinach, chorizo, chicken red Chile and pork red Chile tamales, rice, beans, their medium-hot salsa and the avocado crema. Everything was delicious!!! In the area for a soccer game, reviews were compelling. Ordered chicken taquitos with spicy black beans from the nice young man with an iPad outside. Quick, but he forgot to give me cutlery even after asking me if I needed cutlery so had to return. Food was okay, nothing special and certainly not made to order. More like reheated grocery store frozen Mexican. Next time, if I'm ever nearby again, will stick to trying tamales. read more

Wow, these are really good Tamales. We picked up a dozen tamales for family dinner on a Friday night, they came with beans, rice and salsa. These tamales were way better than what you usually get when you order a tamale in a mexican restaurant. Keep in mind that these are made fresh every day, which is great, but you also need to understand that they close when they are out of tamales, not always at the advertised closing time. They recommended calling ahead to confirm that they have what you are looking for if you are coming near their closing time. Finally tried this place for lunch today! They are offering curbside pickup right now. Ordered and payed online on the website called the number when we arrived and they brought it right out to us. Easy peasy. I'm not a fan of tamales the main staple here so we ordered the Flautas crispy chicken rolled tacos. They come with rice and beans and a little side salad. The rolled tacos are so delicious! Drizzled with avacado, cilantro sauce and crema. Fresh and house made you can taste the differance. And they make it look so pretty too. I ordered to go tonight, first time at the Bellingham location and first time ordered other than tamales. I ordered the crisp chicken tacos w refried beans and traditional rice. I also asked for verde instead of roja salsa. I live 5 minutes away from NMT, I also arrived early after they asked when I'd like to pick up. First, the taco shells were very soft, not crisp, and my entire meal was cold when I got home. I can't beat it up for that. Second, the rice and beans were extremely salty, salt came through first. Third, I was charged $1 for a tiny bit of verde salsa, received a full red salsa, both salsas were excellent. I knew I should have walked in to order to ensure crispy timeliness, but overall, the shells were not crispy, fried yes, not crispy. I'm not sure if I'll return for other than tamales, they travel better. I also don't like getting up-charged for a tiny bit of salsa I asked for, with a much larger portion of what I did not order. read more

Located in the quonset hut formerly occupied by Good Burger, the store is more of a take out place than a sit down restaurant, although there are a few tables inside. The menu is simple - Tamales. They offer chicken, beef, pork or vegetarian, and there are different versions of each protein. We ordered the 12 pack - 12 Tamales (6 pork with red chile and 6 chicken with green chile) 16oz. Refried beans 16oz. Mexican rice 8oz. Red salsa These tamales are large, with a thick masa coating and generously filled with meat and chiles, not too spicy. The red salsa was fantastic! I loved the tangy, garlicky, cilantro flavor. I would rate it a 5 out of 10 for heat. It perfectly complimented the flavors in both types of tamales we ordered. Trusted yelp pointed us to the New Mexico Tamale Company, and I am glad we stopped. The owner is absolutely delightful - friendly and super helpful. I had the hatch green chili pork tamale and the posole and they were both amazing. Soft tamales, perfectly spiced - didn't need anything on them. The chips and salsa along with the meal were also on point. Lots of people coming in to get tamales by the dozen to go. Kudos to them on being awarded a yelp recognition - top 100 places to eat in the US in 2020. Well deserved. And now for some even better news - they are open on Mondays! read more

This place has wonderful authentic food from the Southwest. I love the Tamales, because they are not all Masa with a little meat like the ones we made for 50 years back home. The Hatch Green Chile is a treat for us who love the stuff. What i really love is that it's not frozen food like other establishments, you can see them making and cooking them right there. Homemade is hard to find these days. They are human and can only do so much, when they run out they run out. SOOOO GOOOD. After a long search of trying to find good Mexican food in Bellingham and being royally unsuccessful, I am happy to say this spot is BY FAR the best in town. First and foremost, I must disclose that everything I ordered was vegan, so I can't comment on the other items on the menu. However, their vegan options are FIRE. Best rice and beans I've ever ordered in a restaurant (including ones from my home state, California). It seems like every other Mexican restaurant in town has criminally under-seasoned and bland rice and beans, but New Mexico Tamale DELIVERED on the flavor. After my first bite of both of those sides, I was literally SHOVELING heaping spoonfuls of them into my mouth at light speed. I've been deprived, so what can I say?? No shame here! Moving on to their tamales, UGH. AMAZING. I grew up eating traditional tamales that my grandma made, but she's really old now and can't make them anymore so I've been hesitant to order tamales with the fear of being disappointed that they wouldn't compare to my grandma's. Once again, New Mexico Tamale nailed it. The tamales were PERFECT. Not dry at all, and perfectly cooked. The masa wasn't bland either, which is common in a lot of tamales. Despite being raised on non-vegan tamales, their vegan ones were spectacular and included vegetable combinations I never would have thought to put in a tamale! Overall, I'm extremely impressed. Customer service was great too and the food was HOT even after I got stuck in traffic on my way home. Plus, there's a ton of parking and lots of seating inside. They offer an amazing menu of tamales from the traditional to experimental and even vegan. Service is good, quick and always friendly. The owners are amazing, even when it's been a while, they still remember me calling me by name. Love these tamales! They are a bit larger and more robust than their smaller Mexican cousins. Find this store front with a couple of tables to sit at, and it's clear that the main business is take away. Many varieties available along with daily specials and different salsas. My faves are the Hatch Chilie pork and the Jalapeño and cheese. Oh and the green chilie chicken. Their queso is delicious. Homemade. Beats velveeta mixed with rotel! The green salsa is tomatillo forward, super fresh tasting. You can buy singles, half dozen, or full dozen. Also frozen dozen for 18$. First time at this place very clean everything new since it just opened .. I wanted to try a green chicken tamale and my mom wanted a red beef tamale but the girl said they only sell them in a pack of 3 one flavor (can't mix and match) which is pretty dumb but ok .. I asked the girl if they had rajas (cheese and jalapeño) and she gave me this lost look, when I explained what rajas was she said they had one called queso (which is not the same as rajas but I guess that's their take on it).. so I got 3 pack of the red beef and honestly they remind me of a fake tamale like the ones they would sell at pollo loco in California in other words if you're expecting that home made tasting tamales these are not it. Also very small I have added a picture (left is Costco right is from this restaurant) of frozen tamales from Costco which believe it or not taste better than the ones I bought here at this place and are bigger too. Also they are brown in color which I have never seen ?? The masa is usually light in color .. but at the end of the day got to respect the hustle I was happy to see a place like this open up here because I just moved here from Los Angeles, California and the food here is lacking but safe to say my high expectations were let down. read more

Time for an update!! I still give this place 5 stars but wish I could give it 6. It appears to be a small tamale shop, but when you step inside you find so much more. Some seating, a vast menu (including things other than tamales), and the friendliest customer service around to greet you. The food of course is phenomenal. They hand make EVERYTHING including the salsa and chips daily. I've had a green and red chicken tamale and adored them. The rice and beans are tasty too, but what I really love is their chips dipped into their homemade green salsa. Now THAT is pure heaven. You can dine in but you can also take out. It is easy to order ahead and suggested as they run out of their popular tamale flavors pretty quick. They have plates for those who dine in, and really decently priced family packs for take out. Oh yeah, and they have vegetarian and VEGAN tamales as well. Something for everyone!! Go try this place.
