The food is tasty, beverages are made well. Usually not too long of a wait. Staff are generally neutral or friendly, and the place is reasonably priced. The seating is quite uncomfortable and rickety, and as a grad student spending long hours there I'd like a little more comfy seats. But otherwise it's a solid spot with good atmosphere. read more

OMG REAL COFFEE! I was in Oshkosh for EAA and camping on the grounds. Could only take a couple of days of the watered down, burnt maxwell house knock off they were serving for way too much so I had to break away. They have a great corner location right on main. And it is on a one way street btw (opps!) I'm sure the baristas knew exactly where I was from and what I needed from my sunburnt-hobo attire. I was obviously camping and in need of some espresso STAT! I asked who the roaster was and the barista was very knowledgeable and even pulled me a sample! They had specials, great pastries and apparently food. But the thing that I loved the most was the layout and the atmosphere of the shop. They had soo many couches and comfy chairs. All alighted perfectly for several little business or friend get togethers. Will definitely be back for more of the cherry latte, now only if I could convince them to have a little cart on eaa grounds?.. read more

A great little cafe in Downton Oshkosh! New Moon has a very fun, hipster vibe to it. A variety of seating options are offered, booths and small tables, plus a raised platform with more tables. The coffee menu covers most styles, so you should be able to find your favorite kind. The food leans towards the vegetarian and vegan side of things, just so you know, and can be a bit eclectic. The Andrew's burrito was delicious, but unexpected with it's pairing of a breakfast burrito with jalapenos and sauerkraut. I had a long work day and I was very hungry and cranky. My coworker had a sandwich here earlier, so I thought I'd follow suit 3 hours later. I walk in Monday at about 3.30pm and it was relatively empty. I got the redthorn wrap - which is a curried chickpea wrap - and a cup of veggie chilli. It was massive! This place is as good as it gets around here, especially if you give a damn what goes into your body. It's inexpensive and local. It's relaxed and friendly. There is free Wifi. They have a nice vegan and vegetarian selection, almond and soy milk and they are flexible with substitutions. They have a hummus spread and an olive/red pepper tapenade spread that go on their wheat berry bread sandwiches (you can add the spreads to any sandwich or wrap). They have a few vegan burritos and an awesome one called "The Firehouse" filled with with chili, hot sauce, ground cayenne and jalapeños (yes!!)...and topped with MORE chili! They have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on their wheat berry bread if you're jonesin'. They also make a killer bowl of vegan chili (I had some). They have baked goods too, some gluten free. There are sandwiches, quesadillas, wraps and even breakfasts. They open at 6:30am and are open late, 10pm. They are always patient with my grandmother when she comes in there even though she is a bit slow (Especially before her first cup of coffee) and I am always pleased with the cappuccino I get here. I question the freshness of their baked goods, but they are still delicious. Even a plain cup of black coffee is good there. The atmosphere is very nice, the whole place feels very Feng Shui'd out. It DOES feel a bit cramped, but I think they've only added that much seating because of how popular this place is. For me, it has the Friends Central Perk feel to it with their couch sitting area. Artist from the area always have new, and sometimes unusual, displays. We're in town once a year and New Moon is a frequent choice for lunch and an afternoon coffee. Because we are there in March, I gravitate toward their daily selection of hearty soups. Wait, they have Wi-Fi? Because on a recent visit, I popped open my computer's wireless menu and saw a whole list of locked networks, none of which seemed to have a New Moon or coffee-related name. And with the not terribly friendly attitude of the employees (and after, pre-coffee, not being able to find the pitcher of creamer and asking a stupid question), I was not about to ask for the network and/or password. And about that coffee -- a real mug is nice, but I didn't love having to serve myself from the dispenser (which seemed to be running low). I then totally overlooked the jug of half and half on that counter, moving to the next one where they keep the sugar, since I habitually put sugar in my coffee before creamer. Honestly, I just found it confusing, and the coffee was not great. And please, the "dry noodles as stir sticks" things is just...ick. Also, why give me a real mug but then wrap my pastry in paper as if for to-go? The apple turnover did not live up to its memory, unfortunately. I am all about going to local coffee shops where ever I go whether in the local area or while traveling. This time, I was traveling to Oshkosh, WI for the Air Show and needed a place to do some homework (aka some good Wi-Fi connection!). Walking into the New Moon Coffee Company, the coffee shop is very appealing as it is spacious with lots of tables, chairs, and couches. It is well lit and has plenty of outlets for hooking up devices for charging. The personnel that work here were very kind and helpful at explaining their menu. I had the sand castle drink which is the white chocolate mocha and caramel latte type drink. It can be served hot or cold, but with the 80 degree day, I decided on getting it over ice. It was very good. Also I had a lemon poppy seed muffin and it tasted fresh, which is definitely important. Overall, I would recommend this place if you are wanting a good local coffee shop that has yummy drinks, food, and free Wi-Fi (with purchase)! read more

Last weekend I was up in Appleton for a friend's wedding, and suffice it to say my Sunday morning condition was not exactly bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Instead of trying to chase away the shakes with the hotel breakfast, my traveling companion suggested the Pioneer Inn in Oshkosh, where she'd gone repeatedly as a kid. Unfortunately, the Pioneer is no longer, and we found ourselves in Oshkosh at 10:00 AM with no breakfast Plan B. As we drove around the area scoping our options things looked bleak. The downtown area of Oshkosh didn't appear to have much going on at all, and I was in no mood to drive back to drive back to the highway without so much as a cup of coffee. Fortunately for us, my eagle eye spotted the New Moon as we were circling the block in search of another non-existent establishment as listed in my friend's GPS unit. Not knowing if breakfast would be an option at the New Moon, I still wanted to stop to satisfy my caffeine jones. I figured there might well be a pastry case or the like, but we were in for even better. There was a short menu for breakfast items including bagel sandwiches, burritos and Belgian waffles. There was also a number of lunch options as well, but I was only interested in getting my brekkie so I didn't really read those over. I ordered the burrito with veggies (onions and green peppers) and my friend got the bagel sandwich with bacon and veggies, and we both got the dark roast Victor Allen's. We grabbed a table near the door and I sat on a fairly awesome wooden bench, perusing the Oshkosh Northwestern while waiting for our food. My friend was actively eavesdropping on the conversation behind us, which apparently involved some dude's cross-country bike trip. The atmosphere of the place was very laid back, with classical music playing in the background and most of the clientele lounging around reading or talking quietly. There were two employees that morning, one girl working the counter and another in the kitchen, and when the other girl came out with a burrito and a bagel sandwich my friend actively tried to get her attention as she cruised the various tables. The place isn't too big, so I wasn't worried about being lost in the mix, and we shortly had our meal and tucked in. The burrito was absolutely delicious, probably the best I've ever had. What really put it over the top was the inclusion of Mexican rice to the scrambled egg and cheese. It gave the burrito a bit more heft and held it all together. The salsa came mixed in with the rice, not on the side. For me this was preferable, but my friend and I had a debate as to which option was best. I still stand by my position that with salsa on the side you end up overwhelming the flavor of the burrito since the salsa is the first thing that hits your tongue. Regardless, everything was fresh and came together wonderfully. My friend enjoyed her bagel sandwich as well, though I ended up with her onions. We picked up a feta and mushroom stuffed scone as well, and the total damage was under $20. We bussed our own table and sipped on our coffees for a bit, then hit the road for Madison in a much better mood than an hour prior. I'm exceedingly happy that we found the place, and I'd say it was the perfect thing for that Sunday morning. Next time I'm in Oshkosh this place is definitely on the short-list of places to go. read more

Service is very slow and choices are limited--especially for food. 15 minutes to get a bagel while they are slow is sad. The bacon is just plain bad. I wouldn't say this is my favorite coffee shop of all time, but is certainly a gym in the Oshkosh area. Plenty of seating, large and small tables, couches, big windows, and friendly staff. The coffee is pretty good too. I haven't tried the latte's or anything though. The energy bars are very peanut buttery and actually addicting. I found myself spending quite a bit of time here and it really is a great place to work. They also have smoothies and sandwiches, none of which I tried. They appear to be very tied to their community, as there are live bands there, local cd's for sale, etc. read more

I recently made a move from the NW to Wisconsin. I was in the coffee-snob capital of the US and my roommate and bestie is a (severe) coffee snob. I was happy to be introduced to New Moon. I like the hipster-y vibe and the coffee tastes really good. Customer service is great and laid back. It's busy on Saturdays during Farmer's Market. Bakery items I've had and enjoyed are the muffins (all of them at the same time! Just kidding), berry danish (it was ok, too sweet for me), and bagels with delicious cream cheeses (I know, that's not a word). I haven't tried the other coffee shops in town so I can't really say this is my favorite place here....yet ;) read more

This place is a "must check out" spot in Oshkosh. It's kind of legendary, been in that old building for decades. It features a full coffee bar mixing up any of your favorites. They have some light snacks, bakery items and an ok food menu. In the evening it doubles as a live music venue, with some small band local artist type performers. And has beer and wine for sale. The atmosphere is kinda hippy with local art on the walls usually for sale. A very chill place to have a meeting. Some of the seating is some old comfy couches and mismatched chairs. It is not rare to find college students slumped over their laptops or a group them enjoying a Scrabble game from the stash of board games for guests to use. read more

I swear there's something about this little place that makes people happy, and always outs them in a good mood. Spring 2016 update: New Moon used to be a HUGE favorite. I'd make my way to Oshkosh at least once a year and would always go. My last visit was sad. They've replaced all the cushy sofas with diner style booths. It's no longer a place to grab a cup of coffee, a sandwich, or whatnot and relax. The vibe is 'get in- get out'. My 5 stars are now 2. I adore New Moon. I accidentally ran across it in 2009 on a random road trip from Milwaukee and have been back several times since. It has a great vibe, food is good, and an appealing hang-out atmosphere. They've retained the architectural details of the historic building and have added on a hippie layer. The people who work there are consistently friendly and nice. There is always an art installation of some sort, with the pieces for sale. The downtown area is getting very nicely re-established and New Moon is the only coffee place in the area, but even if there were others, I'd opt for New Moon. read more
