Be careful here. The practice likes to add-on, up-charge, and try to get you to have procedures you don't need. This is all based on memory from a few years back, but I always meant to leave a review. On the positive side, my hygienist was very good. She had a very personable demeanor and did a great job with my cleaning. The office is newer and a nice place to visit. Seems modern and efficient with all the latest equipment. On the negative side, two of the procedures, one was the fluoride treatment and I cant recall the other one, were NOT covered by insurance, which they knew since they didn't even attempt to bill it, and I walked out having paid over $200 out of pocket. It was never explained to me that those procedures were extra, but I did notice she asked me if it was "okay" to do them, which I found odd. I've never had this happen before and was a bit confused. Another thing I thought was weird is that I had scheduled with one dentist who was covered by my insurance, but when I got there they said another dentist would see me that day, who wasn't covered by my insurance. I mean, maybe that's okay?? It seemed a little fishy to me. It was unclear to me whether or not the original guy I was supposed to see ever actually came in or if it were all just some sleight of hand to out-maneuver standard insurance practices. The hygienist made some puzzling comment over never actually seeing him much and "oh we do some work with him sometimes." ? The guy I did see put me off right away. This was during the height of Covid and he walked in, pulled his mask off, sat 5 feet from me and made a negative comment about social distancing while rolling his eyes. So I just spent that short time with him trying not to breathe. I was strongly pressured to schedule a visit to have all of my cavities replaced and schedule a visit to the orthodontist they refer to. My prior dentist, who I had to stop seeing since I moved out of state, strongly warned me to avoid any dentist who attempted to tell me my cavities needed replacing and that it was unethical to suggest that I should. The dental practice I went to after my single visit to New Smiles told me the same thing albeit in a gentler manner. I was asked about scheduling that visit twice before I left in a "you really need to get this done ASAP" kind of way. To this day I still havent had a single one replaced. I seem to recall there was some issue with the time of my appointment too but I cant remember what. Something like they thought I was supposed to come in on another day? I was confused and had to show them my appointment reminder to prove I was there when I was supposed to be. Then I was told I was "lucky" that they could squeeze me in. Anyway, I never went back. I went to this place back in July for the first time since I moved and needed a new dentist. I loved the staff and thought they were great until today. I have good health insurance and have literally never paid for cleanings or exam out of pocket. When I booked my appointment it was a couple months out but they sent me emails so they could get my history and background. I sent all that in as instructed. When I got there I gave them my insurance which I made sure they took when I booked my appointment. I was taken to the back and they started my cleaning. They asked to take X rays which I explained by insurance covers once a year and I was not sure if my last appointment at the other place did them or not. My hygienist explained that if the insurance would not cover it then they would just not bill me for it. Problem solved no big deal. As I left that day they said I was all go on the insurance side and no big deal... Fast forward today where 5 month later I am getting a bill for $221. Are you freaking kidding me? I thought ok maybe its the x rays so I called at 8 am to get an explanation. I got a call back at 11 am and the lady was far from helpful. She explained my insurance only covered a little bit of each and so that left me with $221. I explained that never have I had to pay for dental care and I have been on this insurance since I was 18 and that was 9 years ago. She said she was not sure but she could give me a new patient with out insurance exam fee which is $87. She expected me to pay that today and over the phone. She could not explain how when I spoke over the phone to some one prior to my appointment I was not notified of this or when I left that day. Do you really think I would have gone forward with the exam and cleaning if I was going to have to pay? No! She choose not to answer my question and simply just wanted my money. She did not care that I was clearly bothered by this or offer an apology or anything. I cancelled my future appt but since I am out $87 that I never should have been charged. read more

DR. A and his team are a standard above all. I have been a patient since I was a kid and I couldn't imagine going anywhere else. I had an emergency situation. Broke my front tooth and they fixed it the next day. I literally cried from happiness !! Not only do they do exceptional/quality work they really truly care about their patients. I came in for the $99 special cleaning price for new patients and left with a bad taste in my mouth and a much higher bill than promised. Mid cleaning I was told my teeth were really dirty and that a special cleaning would be $250. My mouth was literally open and I was laying all the way back in the chair when I was told this. Mind you I have my teeth cleaned every year, never have cavities and have never been told this before. I felt pressured to give in to the more thorough cleaning. Had a cleaning, exam, and x-rays done a couple of years ago now. It went fine although they wanted to sell me a much more expensive procedure to cure a problem they said could become trouble down the road. I said I would think about that. Never wound up doing it to this point and have not had any problems in that regard. Fast forward to now. Called them and asked how much for a new cleaning. Front desk said they would require new x-rays with exam and cleaning. Okay, understood.... Price: $350...Are you kidding me? Never mind. I'll find another dentist thanks. BTW, tried calling them a week ago only to find out the entire office closes for two full week around the Christmas and New Year's holidays. Seriously??? Who does that? I've had cleanings and a crown and every time I go there, they know my name and treat me like I am their only customer. It's a great office with great staff and they're very easy to work with. No pressure, no attitude and the doctors are top-notch. The hygienists are exceptional and I have a great experience every time I go. When I first went to see Dr. Bennet, I thought she and the office were great, very fancy office with a lot of freebies. And then I brought my husband in too. Everyone was SO nice. Then I got a cavity filled in the upper left side of my mouth and the sensitivity wouldn't go away. I had been through this before with another dentist a long time ago who hadn't done my filling properly, so I knew exactly how it felt and I knew exactly how it would feel when it would start to get better, but each time I went back dragging my feet to dr bennet in pain for a bite adjustment, it would get a tiny bit better but then stop getting better like the healing process hit a wall, so I definitely knew something was up. I started to think it wasn't the bite, like before (last time at another dentist, the fillings were done in a rush and didn't adhere to My tooth, leaving spaces). The biggest issue was Dr. Bennet kind of made me feel like I was bugging them or annoying them. She made me feel like I had no idea what I was talking abut even though I did and had been through it before. She kept telling me to wait even though I told her I could not chew on the left side of my mouth and when did accidentally it was awful. I didn't feel like my concerns were taken seriously and honestly, I was made to feel like I was a burden. She just seemed totally over it and kept urging me to wait longer. Even though I told her I've been through this before. She just flat out did not believe me. Not once did she ever offer to redo the filling. Not once. At that point, I hadn't been able to chew on the left side of my mouth for over a month and the level of sensitivity hadn't changed. When I went in for my last bite adjustment, one of the hygienists came in and I explained to her what was going on, so for some reason her first thought was to stab the area with a metal tool, which almost literally threw me out of my seat from pain. And again Dr. Bennet told me to keep waiting and that my bite was adjusted enough. So wouldn't you think to look into other reasons for the sensitivity if it's not the bite? But she didn't, she sent me away again. They also told my husband he needed to get his wisdom teeth removed when he has never been told that before (he has two left and they are a part of his row of teeth, not overgrown). My husband and I went to another dentist and without a thought, he told me "the filling didn't adhere to your tooth correctly so essentially that's why it's sensitive. It needs to be redone." And he told my husband he did NOT need to get his wisdom teeth out, that if he did it would mess up his bite. And just to be sure, I went to yet another dentist, my final dentist who I Adore now, and she told me the same thing, that my filling needs to be redone. So, out of all the xrays New Smiles took, I have no idea why they mysteriously couldn't give me an answer for why I was in pain. Why they told my husband he has to get his teeth out. I think, as with many dentists, it's money-related. They didn't want to do a free filling procedure. They squeeze more money out of you. While I did not like Dr. Bennet, the rest of the staff (with the exception of the girl who dumbly poked my filling) was amazing, which is why this is two stars and not one. read more

I had a recent visit for a routine cleaning and wanted to share specifically about how impressed I was with Abby, the front desk receptionist. An older man came in who wasn't very communicative and was asking if his wife was finished. Abby was extremely kind, asking him how his day was, to which he replied with an non-open ended response. At that point I would have left him alone as it seemed he wasn't interested in conversation. But Abby went above and beyond to ask relative questions like if he enjoyed the Super Bowl and what was his favorite part of the game. She has such a gift for loving people!! The entire team is exceptional from Dr. A and Dr. Doyle, Karie (my hygienist), Abby, Ursula, Cami, Julie, and Shelley. Emergency is really a time to emerge and see how your medical providers respond. Yesterday was a great experience with New Smiles staff when I truly had a dental emergency that my current dental practice couldn't attend to. I referred to my Sherwood chamber of commerce fellow members , Dr McKinney and Dr. BEN and they welcomed me with open arms! I am ridiculously afraid of the dentist. However New Smiles genuinely cares about your feelings and will accommodate you fully. They are always pleasant from the amazing Dr. Doyle right down to the receptionists in the front. Going to get dental work done does not scare me in the least anymore. I've been numerous times and even some were emergencies right before Christmas Eve and they still fit me in to fix a broken tooth so I would not have to suffer through my Christmas vacation in misery. My first visit to New Smiles and was impressed by the entire staff! I recently relocated to the Portland area and hadn't found a dentist yet. I had a tooth that chipped and called New Smiles and was able to get an appointment in a couple days! Very friendly staff when I called to make appointment. When I arrived for my appointment, I was greeted immediately by Rebecca. My wait was only a few minutes before being called for my appointment. I have been a patient for about 6 years and I won't go anywhere else. Dr. A is so gentle comforting. In a chair that can be less than comfortable he always puts me at ease. Kami (my hygienist) is fantastic. When she realized I HATED the scrapping, she suggested we try the "ultrasonic." That eliminated about 90% of the scrapping when I get my teeth cleaned. They listen and they care about making you comfortable. After I had a a couple of crowns done, Dr. A actually gave me his cell phone number to use over the weekend incase I had any issues. The staff is the best group of people ever! They do all they can and more for me to have the best experience. Front office ladies were so kind and helpful. They explained everything about what the insurance covers to me before the appointment and that helped me feel confident through the whole appointment. Also they literally are so prepared for COVID. They have pre-screening which was done by really sweet ladies. They thoroughly clean the rooms before and after patients, which made me feel good to see. They also gave me all types of goodies when I left and I saved on buying toothpaste, mouthwash, floss, whitening, whitening trays and toothbrushes. I am actually quite surprised that there are not more reviews for Pacific Family Dental. I am always running into people who are as thrilled with them as me and my family are. I guess most people don't think about writing reviews unless they've had a bad experience. My husband and I have been Dr. A's patients for almost eight years and we would never hesitate to recommend him to any of our friends or family. Our first visit was an emergency visit for an infected tooth. Pacific Family Dental was the only office willing to see a non-patient on such short notice. More recently, Dr. A left his family's BBQ to rush into the office and take care of our daughter's knocked out tooth. He wasn't even the on-call dentist for her dentist that weekend. Between dental trauma's, we have found Dr. A's dental care top notch. He is thorough, catches and treats potential problems early and treats us like family. We recently had a procedure with Dr. Bennett and she was able to give reassurance to a child who was tense getting numbing medication. She also did follow up with us promptly when we had questions and even scheduled us back for a quick check. We have been coming here for several years and plan to keep coming. From the welcoming receptionist, friendly and knowledgeable hygienist to my interaction with Dr. Doyel, I never felt any of the usual "dental anxiety".
