Kind of ok, and awesome if you are all "porked out" from all the piggy heaven all over Puerto Rico... it's a bit pricey - $15.50 for house special rolls - meaning anything other than your basic tuna avocado and $7 for sashimi or nigiri which is high!!! It seems that it's very popular though, and the service is mediocre. It's a good fix if you want some late night Asian. We also ordered a pan fried dumpling which again, was ok. Located on the busy Avenida Ashford in Condado, New Taste is one of a handful of Asian restaurants in the block/area that provide a much needed change to an otherwise traditional menu option in the city. We chose it because of the fact that they had boba available, a Chinese tea drink with tapioca pearls (boba). We ordered orange chicken, sauteed eggplant & 2 boba drinks. They ran out of boba and it took about 15 minutes for them to "get new boba." Everything was slow or forgotten, like our hot sauce request, so have patience. The food itself was delicious but again, bad service/timing tends to ruin the overall experience. Prices were steep $16 for honey walnut shrimp and $12 for the CA rolls. No thanks! I just hopped in New Taste after flying into San Juan for a late and quick lunch. As many have stated, be prepared for a bit of slow service even if it's 3pm and the restaurant is nearly empty. Since I was prepared for this, it was less shocking to me. But I can see how watching 3 servers just sit at the sushi bar doing nothing while you've been waiting to get your bill for 15 minutes can be frustrating. The prices are extraordinarily high but that seems to be the norm for Asian food in PR. They can get away with charging $16-18 for orange chicken which was ridiculous to me, coming from Chicago. The atmosphere is what you'd expect for a hole in the wall restaurant right near the main strip of Condado. The decor is cluttered and not much to look at, but everything is relatively clean. I didn't try much of the food since I was dining alone, but went with the hot & sour soup, a spicy salmon roll, and the pepper tuna roll. The hot & sour soup was a large serving and tasted...like regular hot & sour soup. Nothing special but nothing bad either. The sushi was extremely fresh, and rolled with a very thin layer of rice and a very generous helping of fish in each piece. This fish was no joke - extremely tasty and fresh. I would definitely come back for the sushi if it were a bit more reasonably priced. But you will not be disappointed in the taste. I can't speak to their dim sum or other kitchen items but if it's sushi you want, I highly recommend. It is a must-go if you like lobster. In this restaurant, lobster is cooked in traditional Cantonese way with ginger and scallion. It's very delicious. Came here with low expectations. I mean, Chinese food in Puerto Rico? That's like asking for a good authentic steakhouse in China. But alas, the parents really enjoy Chinese food so we had to give this place a try. And it was actually a lot better than i expected. The food and service were at least four star, but the price ultimately made it a three. We got xiaolongbao, vegetable of the day, sautéed beef, and sizzling seafood plate. The xialongbao was regrettable. Four soggy, tiny pieces of overcooked and left over Bao's that stuck to the serving plate. At $6.50, it was quite then upsell. My go to is the domiao or bean sprout (green) for garlic sautéed veggie at any Asian restaurant. This dish was cooked to perfection here. Not overcooked and just the right amount of crispness Beef was good but not amazing. The sizzling seafood was very fresh and light, exactly what it should be For PR, this was decent enough. Yet three dishes, an appetizer, and a couple of bobas for $100 was a little excessive. They even "forgot" about our appetizer and brought out the noodle entree beforehand and when we asked about the dim sum sampler appetizer they asked if "we still wanted it." Don't come to this super racist restaurant!!! I don't expect outstanding service from a Chinese restaurant but the service at this restaurant is outstandingly terrible. We arrived for lunch around 12pm when there were about 4-5 waitresses standing around and only 2 tables of guests. We orderd the shimp dumpling, duck noodles soup, and chicken vegetable lunch special. 45 minutes later, we still haven't had any food. With a flight to catch, we inquired about our food. Our waitress said she would check on it but didn't say anything until my husband asked again. Exactly an hour after we were at the restaurant, the waitress brought the food out BUT she got what we ordered wrong. This is after I clearly said what I wanted and pointed at the dish in the menu. Instead of bringing us the lunch special, she got us the dish that was wrong, more expensive, and less satisfactory. We had 15 minutes to eat so no time to switch. Meanwhile, while we were waiting for our food, 2 American guys came an hour after us, ordered the same thing we did and got their food within 15 mins. The waitress totally got our menu wrong and made us pay more for something we didn't want but she didn't offer a discount or anything, not even coming by to pour water. I went there twice during my visit. The first time I went, I preferred dinner to go, with milk tea with boba. The guy taking my order brought me the tea without boba. When I asked, he said they were out of boba. Instead of telling me when he took my order, he charged me $4 for it anyways. Food was bland. Second time I went, I ordered chicken with Chinese vegetables to go. I specifically told the same guy to make it very spicy. When I brought it home, the order receipt said "light spicy" on it. I had to use Cholula on it, which wasn't good, because it's not for Chinese food. To make it worse, halfway through eating, I found a hair in the chicken, which made me want to throw up. So it's Chinese New Year 2017 and felt it would be appropriate to have Chinese food to commemorate it and came here. Ordered the house special fried rice, ma po tofu and chicken with broccoli. Firstly, i felt this was expensive for Chinese food. Being a New Yorker, Chinese food and expensive don't go together. However this is a tourist area and rent is expressive, it's the way it is. Their ma po tofu was great! Nice sizeable chunks of tofu, thick and flavorful sauce, a little spicy. Exactly how it should be! The chicken and broccoli was great and is quiet plain so not much to say. The roast pork [cha siu] in the house special fried rice was excellent! Succulent, fatty and really flavorful. I was in PR on a trip and my friend took me here as he said it was the best Chinese food he's ever had. Mind you the rest of chinese food is the take out kind. I was pleasantly surprised, the food was good. Seafood was not a problem being they were on an island. I had the duck which was very good. The chicken my friend got was crispy and not dry. The staff there is friendly and speaks spanish which I found to be amusing. They also have a chinese menu for those who want a more authentic chinese taste. Located next to it is a small chinese market that sells some groceries, canned goods, snacks, chips, candies and other various items. I have to say that this place won my heart when I saw that they had bubble tea, actual bubble tea and not the bubble smoothies that you find else where on the island. They have a wide variety of bubble tea. I had the lychee green tea and my boyfriend had the honey green tea. They were both delicious, sweet and so refreshing I do have to give a special note to the waitress and sushi chef. I completely missed that one of the rolls that I ordered had shrimp in it (I'm allergic) and since I live sleep deprived most days, I forgot to mention it up front. Soooo I was extraordinarily embarrassed when I had to send back my rolls and ask for a different one. The waitress took it all in stride and brought me out another sushi roll (sans shrimp) very quickly. The sushi was good, 4 stars worthy, and the noodles that my boyfriend ordered were also pretty darn good. I didn't think the customer service would be as bad as the reviews say it will be, but it really is the worst customer service I've ever gotten. I ordered the assorted dumpling sampler as an appetizer and the beef stew as an entree. The lady with a pink cap on, who I assume may be one of the owners or maybe the manager, told me that they don't have shrimp dumplings and the sampler should have 2 shrimp dumplings, 2 pork dumplings, 2 shrimp shumai, and 2 spring rolls. No problem, I asked if I could get an extra shrimp shumai and an extra pork dumpling instead. She said that was fine. 45 minutes later, my dumpling sampler arrived and it looked fresh. I readied my chopsticks and was about to eat, but then the same lady came back and told me they gave me ten dumplings instead of eight. Then she literally took my plate away as I was about to eat, and disappeared for 15 minutes. She came back later with eight dumplings but two of them were steamed pork dumplings instead of the shumai and fried pork dumpling replacement that I asked for. Also my dumplings were now cold due to the wait. I told her about the error but she just got mad and corrected me and argued that she never agreed to give me an extra piece of shumai or fried dumpling to replace the out of stock shrimp dumplings. I was so frustrated at this point, I just gave her the hand and told her to let me eat in peace as I felt like I was going to pass out. Easily the worst customer service I've ever received, and I'm nicer to service industry employees because I've been there but this was ridiculous. The food was otherwise good. After being away from vancouver for 2 weeks I was really missing Chinese food. So took the risk on this place after reading the decent yelps reviews. Long and short. It's not bad. On par with Chinese cafe food in vancouver/Richmond. Service is super authentic meaning very limited English and they don't come until you call for them. None of that bothers me as I'm use to that style. For someone who is used to a host and being greeted and followed up on. It may stress you out. But just think Chinese style. Flagging your servers and yelling for them across the room. Had the beef cilantro soup. It was typical heavily corn starched and cafeesque. Singapore fried vermicelli (can't remember what it was called on the menu. Maybe curried vermicelli?) again nothing to write home about but completely acceptable. I wanted to come back a few more times but my partner reasonably refused. Chinese is not PRs forte but if you're looking for some this is probably the best of the lot. Expensive for Chinese food. But not expensive for Puerto Rico. I think people expect ethnic food to be cheap but that's doing it a disservice. A plate of noodles should reasonably cost the same price as a plate of pasta. read more

The employees are rude and will do their very best to avoid making eye contact with you so they don't have to speak or help you. There were so many open tables and they said we had to take it to go. We mentioned there were available tables outside and they didn't care to listen, we were just told "to go" not acknowledging what we had just said. I'd like to add that they would still be open for a couple of hours so it's not like we arrived just as they were about to close. We had to forcefully stop someone that walked past us at least five times just to ask them if we can even order and if so, where...
